Halo |OT18| We're Back Baby!

Oh god I'm just dying because of this thread on Waypoint

I'm not sure if he is trolling, but bloody hell if not

I'm sure many people thought this was a cool idea on paper, but in practice it was an abomination; its execution was poor.
  • Spawn with AA's/Shotgun/vehicle destroyers
  • No weapons on the map
  • Perks.
  • Crazy OP radar (sound-based radar or bust, stop gimping map movement)
  • Power weapons dropping at my feet
    + Ammo Perk.
  • Perks.
  • Random Ordnance destroyed map control, as did AA's
  • Instant respawn
  • Perks.
  • The list goes on..

"Overpowered, but crazy fun" just got defended.

The thing has a bright laser when you scope. They could lower the aim assist and not allow it to drop down in Personal Ordnance or to be used with Ammo perks instead of scrapping a one shot Sniper entirely.

Snipers in BF are one shot kills anywhere on the body, no? It's balanced within the context of that game because the aiming is difficult and kill times are fast. The Binary Rifle in Halo can be balanced by the laser when scoped (which it has), one shot per reload and less aim assist/ammo.

I don't know, I just think there's potential in that weapon because it's fun to see a bright red line targeting you as you're trying to avoid it - "oshitoshitoshit." It's the finer touches within Halo's gameplay that makes it different from other games, much like the Plasma stun in CE.

v lol cyren was probably hyped to post that

The whole notion of classes has to go,don't even put an interface for it. Everyone starts with the same weapons and nades.Primary is a pistol and weapons are on the map. No choosing what type of pistol or secondary weapon either. That is where the balance begins and then it's the rest such as no perks at all, weapons, powerups scattered on the map in a balanced way.

I don't mind the concept of the Binary Rifle, but I feel like the one-shot kill has to go. If it has to stay in the sandbox, I'd rather it:

- Retain its current ammo count, rate of fire, etc.
- Require two shots to kill anywhere but the head, as is the case with the Sniper / Beam Rifle.
- Functions as an EMP sniper - a shot anywhere on a vehicle will jam it.
- Taking a non-lethal hit from the Binary Rifle on foot will mildly fuzzy up your HUD as well as jam your Armor Ability.

I also like the "ohshitohshitohshit" idea of the laser sight and kinda wish it applied to more weapons - I'd personally love to see a beefier-looking / sounding Light Rifle that had a more alien-styled laser sight that got projected on targets, sort of like that one the Predator's got.

EDIT: Didn't Ozzy say he was going to post OT19 when we hit page 196?

What if it didn't have any aim assist, but kept the one-shot kill?

So, a friend of mine invited me to his friends Halo 3 LAN last night. Good stuff. I forgot how damn good that game was. How the hell have they not come close since?
Man, so jealous. I was able to LAN some Halo 3 several months ago and it was so fun. The game is way better when you don't have to deal with network inconsistencies.

I think that is honestly why I remembered Halo 3 less fondly than I should have. I mean, I have always asserted it and Halo 2 had the best maps and MP, but I always felt iffy about the gunplay.. LAN fixed my issues. If only we could a rerelease of Halo 3/2 with fixed netcode.

On that note, I really hope Halo 5 can learn from its mistakes. Don't get me wrong, I know Infinity settings will survive in one way or another, but perhaps if they create a brand new, Battlefield inspired mode with these settings while keeping the small scale stuff in line with classic Halo it could work out. Time will tell, but classic Halo better not be represented in a small niche playlist only.. time and time again we have seen that it won't work out.

Halo 4 united the community under a common goal: To make Halo a powerful multiplayer franchise once again. Seeing people break out the in-depth analyses of why past Halo's have failed is a beautiful thing. Generally speaking, it seems Halo fans are becoming more aware of what makes Halo, Halo, and won't accept anything less. The community just wants to feel loved.

Give us the tools, give us the power: Building a better Halo.

Just get rid of it at that point. They should ditch most of the Promethean weapons and come up with unique ones. Still not sure why we needed orange versions of guns that were already in the game.

I want it gone too, but if it has to stay (which I have a feeling it will), I'd just want them to try and polish some of their overpowered turds.

I think Halo as a franchise also shot itself in the foot a little bit compared to other arena shooters with smaller weapon counts - all of the factions in-game mean that 343's probably going to try and have some semblance of even faction totals across the board, whereas I'd prefer the Bungie way where UNSC / Covenant weapons were more common with some less-available (but more powerful) Forerunner weaponry.

This is like, what I had hoped classes in Halo would bring. More strategy, team work and team compositions(besides that Global Ordnance part). But yea it didn't work out like that, at all lol

Tashi's never played a Call of Duty game apparently.

Um, you do know Microsoft is in charge of the franchise in every aspect? Halo 4 sold well, so why should they change course? Because of some whiny fans who still play the game and buy the DLC anyway? You won't see significant reform until Halo 7, because they need to take the sales hit first, and even with Halo 5, their genius analysts will attribute it to low install base or some other bullshit.

And fans don't agree on Halo's defining attributes at all. It's that disagreement that fuels much of the discussion, at least on the boards I've historically frequented.

What was the point of creating a dedicated studio that was going to produce a product that smacked of serving corporate interests? What do I mean by that? Halo 4 was rushed. I recall an exec stating the 3-year cycle was too long for their liking. So, what did they do? They quickly hired talent from all over the industry. They outsourced work to other studios. They ramped it up to get the job done on time. We know there were departures from producers during the project. You have to give it to them, though, those ViDocs were put together well.

I wish Frankie could somehow be divorced from it all and speak candidly about the project, but I think even if he were to cut all ties and move onto something else, he'd still be contractually obligated in some ways.

Maybe I'm just super-pessimistic, but I got my hopes up a lot about Halo 4, and I heavily bought into the hype. I really believed in a world with both outstanding Bungie games and outstanding Halo games being released concurrently. Halo 4 put a spider web in that looking glass. Xbox 180 shattered it to pieces.

So AC4 is good, because objectives are something like "reach this"

Please more open ended level design in H5, I want all levels to be like Silent Cartographer.

Well, not all, I want some like "The Ark" and "The Covenant" as well.

I want some stealths mission in Halo, Halo Reach's Nightfall solace was a wasted oportunity to experiment it with exclusive campaign weapons like a sniper with silencer attachment

Remember when Bungie said a lot of Reach could be done via stealth. Was MASSIVELY dissapointed that never happened.

They said the same in Halo Recon too.

Am I the only one who finds the Sniper Rifle massively disappointing in SP? Its perfect for MP, but it always feels super weak in SP. If you could more easily take enemies out in one hit I feel like potential stealth segments would work better.

But yeah, I wish stealth could play a bigger role in Halo titles. ODST had so much potential there.

Im not sure how its working on PS4 right now, but I really enjoy the Clips and Upload Studio functionality on Xbox One, I know the quality of the vid isnt great
for now?
but its still really fun, its bringing me back to the Halo 3 type of sharing

Back then at the end of the night everybody would jump into Theater together and watch the crazy shit that happened, since Reach and 4 didnt allow it, I havent watched a single saved film since.

Now with clips, and being so easy to find/watch, Im so inclined to record my great/terrible moments and share it, after our long BF4 sessions now we upload all our clips to relieve the night that was.

... this makes me less expecting of any potential Theater mode enhancements in Halo "5" though, but hopefully they can continue to improve the speed, quality, options of the clips/films, and it might not be so poorly missed (for MP)
campaign theater aside, rip :(

Yeah 2Mbps is really low. Something like 4-5MBps would be far more ideal. Hopefully the quality does get pushed up over time. I assume at least part of the low quality right now is they want to avoid stressing servers as they bring things online but it would suck if we're in 2014 and that's still the default.

Remember to grab a copy of Turkey Bowl/Stadium for customs.

Oy Nokyard, grabbed the gametype but the map doesn't seem to be in your share.

I updated the map based on feedback and renamed it Harper Stadium. Harper was an Admiral under Lord Hood.

The shields are laid out in an easier to learn pattern and no longer show up as an enemy (shields labeled as enemy teams to force a colour are considered actual 'enemies' by the game engine and therefore cause a red reticule) so they don't cause reticle magnetism when you run past them.
