Capcom reinvesting MH4 profits into new 4 billion yen internal Japanese mobile studio

But he said parent's aren't going to buy their kids cellphones *FOR GAMES*. And they don't. No one buys a phone to watch Netflix, but people download it there. Doesn't mean they bought the phone for it.

Does it matter why they buy the cellphone? It's a potential customer. It's Nintendo on that platform. That's all the reason they need.

Obviously, no one buys cell phones for games but they sure as fuck play games on them. It was a stupid point to even bring up.

Wait, we bought MH so Crapcom can open up a fucking mobile studio?

I thought we bought MH to play MH...

Wait, they're using the money from MONSTER HUNTER?!?! I bought the PSP/Wii/WiiU/3ds version just to support more Monster Hunter in the west not this FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.

THAT'S IT.

Nintendo, Sony, ally if you have to. Get Namco and every other japanese dev who hasn't sold their soul and form the LAMG (leauge against mobile games)

I getting desperate. Just see my comments on the Sony and Nintendo should merge thread

I'm not talking about consoles.

Both of them are console manufacturers, and both are interested in getting people to those machines. If you're talking about their handhelds, it gets even worse. Why should they get a dedicated gaming device when their phone does all sorts of things, and plays really cheap games too?

And that's before we get to the brand power of a company like Apple that gets people in the door off that alone.

There was no stopping this.

People actually buy handhelds and consoles *FOR GAMES*.

It's the mindset of the consumer. Would you rather appeal to people who bought a phone and buy a few games "just because" or would you rather appeal to people that spend a few hundred so they can buy next gen games?

I'd go with the latter personally. The first is fickle and guided by fads and pop culture. Good luck getting to that status.

Why everyone so nagative about Capcom go for mobile money?
On the contrary, I wish they find their gold mine on mobile asap! That way they got much more money to bet on AAA investment.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
Has Capcom learned NOTHING from the past few years? They're still putting all their eggs in one basket.

My friend predicted Capcom would be dead within 5 years. That was almost 3 years ago. Wonder if it really will happen.

Oh man, we wouldn't have a problem with this if mobile money went into producing big games. Instead it just goes into making more mobile stuff.

Even if the 3DS didn't go through its early drought and the Vita was selling better mobile still would've been more appealing to casual games for the reasons why its popular now.

I'm not sure what you're arguing here? I never said Nintendo and Sony could have achieved a total reversal of the current situation.

Do you think the PS4 will outsell the 3DS?

I added Aquamarine's summary to the OP as well, since she also has access to the article:

When the PS3 / 360 released, development investment increased from 15 billion JPY ($146.5 million) to 30 billion JPY ($293.0 million). The great thing about mobile and portable game development is that the expectations are lower (much lower for mobile) in terms of development commitment from the staff.

Essentially, Capcom wants to invest heavily in the smartphone gaming realm as an avenue for future growth opportunities. Capcom's mobile sector has been lagging recently, and they want to invest in it to increase their operating margin in that area.

The president of Capcom says the way for Capcom to dedicate resources to mobile development (in terms of both expertise and flexibility) is to increase the percentage of in-house development dedicated to it. To this end, Capcom is using 4 billion JPY ($39.1 million) of the revenue from Monster Hunter 4 to create a new studio in Osaka (where Capcom's HQ is located), and they are ramping up development staff accordingly.

The new center in Osaka still has a possibility of being multi-purpose, though.

The profits from one of their most successful game in years MH4 for the 3DS is being used to fund this mobile escapade. If Capcom finds a gold mine in mobile they'll just see it as an excuse to make more mobile games and less AAAA ones

Why sputter along and make niche games for a smaller and smaller audience when you can make games for a new audience who haven't been exposed to your IP and if something hits, it hits bigger than any 3DS or Vita game can?

Urgh...When MH4 EN version releases, I'd try sooooo hard not to buy it. Maybe I'll buy preowned or something. Fuck you, Capcom.

Neither is relevant to the consumer these folks are targeting. I don't know why you think dedicated gaming handhelds would sway these people. Neither of the companies is to blame for this, it's simply people preferring free/cheap games on a communication device.

Well that's where their profits came from, and they also want that audience on mobile.

Seeing Breath of Fire 6 and that Megaman game really make me wonder why so many of these mobile titles look so awful. I simply cannot fathom how they feel those visual designs are acceptable in any way.

Excuse my ignorance but is the mobile space really that profitable in Japan? Or in general?

C'mon Capcom, save up money to reboot RE and do it right.

Believe.

That's kind of the idea of taking it internal.

When they're outsourcing to the lowest bidder, they don't often get great results.

I... I'd just accept this is mobile games from these Japanese companies weren't mostly crap. I'd be super bitter to not have, say, Dragon Quest XI on 3DS but I'd still buy it on my phone if it's good. Ugh.

Oh well, looks like MH4 will be my last MH then. Not touching their crap on the cellphones.

Because they don't care, they put as little effort into them as possible.

Honestly, I don't have any trouble with games going to mobile if they didn't play like shit(which could change), freemium crap with microtransactions, and social gaming. I just want to play Monster Hunter like I've done so for years.

Monster Hunter 4 sold like fucking pancakes and they just don't give a fuck.

Maybe I'm just too optimistic, but look at Gungho, get rich with mobile and start making games on 3DS, acquire Grasshopper Manufacture and making PS4 exclusive.
On business side, they need to get profit making that low risk high reward bet.
On creative side, I'm sure deep inside Capcom talented developer's mind, they want to earn back their glory.
Who doesn't want to make bad ass game if they have the budget? I don't think they willing to settle with mobiles title.
