PS4 fastest-selling console in UK history, outsells Wii U LTD in UK [250K PS4 in 48h]

ok so we agree console gaming is in decline then.

The overall market will, but the losses will mainly come from Nintendo's share, which is of little relevance to third parties. It will be a continuation of what we have seen over the last two years, Nintendo sales fade while the PS3 and 360 keep on trucking.

I expect the non-Nintendo market to grow over the generation though.

Leave him alone, poor guy have been calling doom on next gen consoles for months now:

And I guess your saying ps4/xbone will never have game droughts?, Ok Nostradamus

After ps4 and xbone bomb wii u style . i hope a VR console comes along to reinvigorate the. market in the same way wii did.

Will be amusing to see all the people who buy a xbone or ps4 oblivious that it wont play their existing games . may even cause mass returns ?

Need to know the prices of the PS4 and new Xbox before I make a prediction.

If PS4 is over US$499 and the main exclusives are really just Killzone, Knack and Drive Club, I don't expect it to do very well at all. Less than WiiU in the first month (like ps3 and 360).

if multiplatform launch games like codblops2 , tekken, batman etc didnt count for wiiu then they shouldnt count for ps4/xbone

What I find interesting is the widespread assumption that the Xbone and PS4 will continue the legacy of previous gen consoles and thrive where WiiU failed to do so.

Do people expect the ps4 and xbone to beat the WiiU's (and 360/ps3) launch month numbers?

How long until xbone/ps4 sail pass the doomed WiiU?, 3 months?, 6 months?

They have the second and third best selling games on the chart.

Only downside I can think of is that they might have been able to get a bigger/better deal for Titanfall 1 exclusivity with these numbers...then again they might have anticipated this as well and negotiated the terms accordingly

1.2m for XBO and maybe 1.5m for PS4? Maybe up to 1.1m NA, 250K UK, 250K rest of Europe? +1.6m?

There is no way they only shipped 500k to Europe. They shipped 600k PS3s and people actually WANT this.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see the EU sell 1m.

To me the idea behind TitanFall's exclusivity is to use Microsoft's expertise in launching multiplayer FPS franchises (Halo, Gears) more than "We need to extort as much money as possible."

NFS has really benefited from that Driveclub delay.

Also, title is not complete, PS4 outsold BOTH WiiU and XB1 LTDs in 48 hours.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
As said in the other thread

From the article stating that 250k PS4 were sold in UK at launch

This means that the current-gen trio (which until recently referred to as ‘next-gen’) already enjoys an install base of around 600k units in the UK. Both PS4 and Xbox have already comfortably outsold Nintendo’s Wii U, which was released in the UK over a year ago.

PS4 launch - 250k
Xbox One launch - 150k
Nintendo Wii U's LTD - "slightly higher than One's debut" last week, so > 150k

PS4 + Xbox One (debut + second week) + Wii U LTD = 600k
250 + 150k + x + >150k = 600k

So, Xbox One's second week = <50k

They did, I just had it in my head that the shipment numbers to the UK would be closer to 300k.

Yes. I thought the numbers would have been around 300k too.

Even it it had been 500k. It still would have sold out. I've been into a quite a lot of video game retailers asking how the launch went and in every single one of them, there was a stream of guys asking when they could buy a PS4.
The demand is very strong.

UK = 1/5th the population of USA

UK = 250K
USA = 1 million

Adjusting for population differences:

UK = 250 * 5 = 1.25 million
USA = 1 million

In other words, this 250K is a HUGE deal for the territory.

great news for ps4. it'a great system and it's great to see so many people embracing it.
it's going to be a great generation for sony. :)

disgusting to see so many 'gamers' having an orgasm at the new mario failing to sell great. you guys are fucking pathetic.
every game sale on any platform is a victory for the industry. the fact that you actually want certain products to fail purely for 'console wars' speaks volumes of you maturity.

i wish there was a 'ignorance' qualifier on msg boards; that if you were higher than an 'accepted' level of ignorance, you weren't allowed to post.

ignorant people shouldn't be allowed a point of view.

Lol.

The previous best selling launch was 185K.

There are only 63 million people in the UK versus 317 million in the US.

That said I guess if they had an astronomical shipment it would be possible to do more.

Edit: Oh I see there was a Eurogamer rumor about a 300K shipment.

From what I could work out with the combined population of US and Canada at 352 million roughly, there was one PS4 sold for every 352 people

For the UK with 63 million, there was roughly one PS4 sold for every 252 people

So better attach rate per capita?

Looking at those and the Xbox One's numbers put a smile on my face, if only to rub in the face of all the Ninty fans wishing for what can only be described as the game console version of Mutually Assured Destruction. Everyone failing won't wipe away the fact that the Wii U failed, and I say that as someone who bought it at Launch.

No way its that low. I would guess 1M+ for PAL (inc. UK) for ~2.5 million sold LTD for PS4.

Although I could be wrong. Supplies for PS4 are so tight here (Australia) that its already sold out until 2014. In contrast the XBOne is widely available everywhere.
I could see them moving that many if they had them... I just assumed the total produced and right to ship to stores would be closer to Microsoft. Difference aside, I would of thought the similarities would yield that big a difference in total WW November supply. That'd be impressive if they sold through that many to retail -- likely a benefit of manufacturing them both in China and Japan in order to have as many ready for day one as possible -- maximize that launch saturation in a way that they clearly failed with the PS3 launch.

Man, Knack outselling one of the best, highest rated Mario games in history (and one of the highest rated games this year!) is some lunacy.

However, it gives you a clear insight on HOW MUCH NINTENDO FUCKED UP with the Wii U.

Iwata should be fired on-sight.

FWIW, 250k:150k is a 3.3:2 ratio.

The numbers we had from the UK pre orders had it at 3:2. So things seemed to follow through in other stores.

Selling over a 100k more than xboxone when xbox 360 was the leader here, anyone in the uk will tell you how heavy ms have pushed on ads too. That should be a major warning to ms, they fucked up here with that price tag.

Yup, then make TitanFall: Sigma for PS4 12 months down the line with a few extra maps and slightly different units. TitanFall 2 will be multi-platform from the outset.

Sad Wii U is doing so bad, great the PS4 is doing great!

Wii U has great games, hopefully British folk (and the world) will collectively realize it soon!

What's mad is I think they could have shipped another 100k on Friday and still sold them, the pent-up demand for this thing is crazy

Well to be fair the success of Gears exclusivity was also due to the ps3 failings. And also I don't think EA needs MS to launch a successful FPS franchise of theirs. But it definitely reduces the risk of it for sure, so I agree.

Too bad they didn't have more to ship to NA for launch.

Nope. Xbox One is doing better than Xbox 360 which featured Gears early in its life, we know how successful that franchise was. Titanfall is already known to be an incredible game, MS knows how to launch great playing shooters, Respawn will be taken care of.

Not just the price tag, but all those horrible anti-consumer policies they tried to enforce on us before all the reversals. People haven't forgotten about that so easily.

Whoa I think a lot of people were expecting Xbone to win the UK launch. Sony did everything right. They can't be stopped. Congrats to them.

Long live the king.

Maybe a little less than 1 million, because of Canada.
