MS announces initial list of ID@Xbox devs, first games "early 2014"

Keiji Inafune's studio Comcept and Bit. Trip developer Gaijin Games are also named in a list of more than 30 Xbox One indie developers published today.

"We've shipped dev kits to more than 50 studios and, as we said at Gamescom, this first wave of developers is just the start," he wrote.

It's a great start for sure. It does feel a little bit like a 'greatest hits' of indie developers in that list, but it's definitely a positive step in the right direction.

I wonder if Indy devs can create games that fit within the "app" confines so they can run in parallel with a "full" (for want of a better word) release.

They did say they were going to with experienced developers first to get it going but I think its a good list.

Can't wait to see more.

I did notice ID@Xbox were following Supergiant Games (Bastion/Transistor) sort of surprised they're not on the list

LittleBigPlanet Vita's developers.

They haven't made any other games Microsoft could have used?

You tell me:

It'd be bizarre for them to miss out on Transistor.

if the platform opens up to windows apps with $99 fee, we will see a lot more..

I would be super excited for that just for Indies and media apps (multiple dlna options, slingcatcher, NAS stuff, home automation (esp if IR codes are usable by all))

Crytek as indie?
That's inline with their e3 presentation.
"We care about indie!"
*Shows MSFT published/funded minecraft port that is indie only by the IP owner*

If it opens to windows apps, it'll means....absolutely nothing that store is more anemic than Wiishopchannel lately.
And I'm not talking about windows phone apps.

You do know that Crytek is an independent studio right?

There's a bunch of indies making games with Unity or in their own c++/DirectX11/Windows8 engines right now, so that when Microsoft eventually flip the switch and allow retail Xbox One's to be devkits, there'll be a fair few games ready or nearly ready to go straight to the approvals process

Everyone was Indie.

Yeah, this is what I want to see at some point.

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
Man, they are so far behind in this.
Always the glass is half empty with you guys. There is still a bunch of new titles to play on the X1. Microsoft being behind in their independent games development program is just perception created by the fact the competition made it a marketing point. If 10 independent games were released today on the X1, they would see little exposure compared to the AAA titles.

Is Cosmic Star Heroine basically confirmed for XB1 then? Unless Zeboyd is simply porting past games to the console.

Woopedido.
I guess they should invite Respawn too since they're independant too!
Heck invite Ninja theory while you're at it!

Anyone of them can sign up to self publish via the ID@XBOX program.

if Crytek wants to publish a small game worked on by a small team, they can go this route. Nothing says they have to publish via a publisher.

You do realize that it is a self-publishing platform, not just for indie develpers right? Making yourself look stupid.

"There are large-scale teams like Crytek, who just created “Ryse: Son of Rome” for Microsoft Studios and now want to pursue self-publishing"
