Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2013 (Dec 02 - Dec 08)

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
If they can release Mario Kart, Smash and Animal Crossing WiiU next year - the system might stabilize even without 3rd Party support.

FAMITSU HARDWARE SALES, WEEK 48, 2013 (November 25th - December 1st):

3DS - 122,126
PSV - 28,253
WIU - 46,773
PS3 - 22,762
PSP - 4,198
WII - 1,258
360 - 524

Wii U's more established presence this week (it sold 27K last week) is expected considering the usual "Nintendo bump" we see during the holiday season. Unfortunately, there are still too few figures to come to any turnaround conclusions. I am getting increasingly optimistic that the Wii U will have chiseled out a new, higher baseline, though.

What the Wii U needed was exposure, and in Japan...hell, everywhere, it has started to get it. I seldom go through a sitting on TV here in the UK without at least one Wii U advert (mostly 3D World). Japan is getting similar. No idea about America.

Now it is in the public's mind, they just have to keep bringing software and it should have a higher baseline and increases with new software.

At least, that is what I hope.

Fantastic numbers for 3DS!
Great numbers for Wii U!
Good numbers for Vita!
Fantastic bad numbers for Vita TV!

I'm sad to see Hatsune and Monhun 4 drop :( so 3 weeks of high sales right?

Only 75% market share. When was Nintendo supposed to go 3rd party again?

Like I said in the other thread:

If Nintendo had a 2nd game ready around this time like Mario Kart 8, the momentum going into 2014 could've resembled the 3DS, along with DK on February it could've meant a nice start of a turnaround. Too bad they couldn't get it ready for this year.

El Capitan Todd
That's more for gt6 than I was going to guess.

I agree, even if it's not that hot I was expecting less
Surprised also by the positive Wii U bump, and good to see Mario having some legs, while the 3DS is struggling againts itslef; or PDZ will really be a big hit, or it will fall behind last year (of course, still impressive in the JP market and all): Attack on Titans debuts well, and Inazuma see another decrese but still manages to sell decently
PSVitaTV really already dead (unexpected to me, in JP), while Vita rose its bar but still manages just decent numbers, considering how close we are at Christmas. With that and PS3 low numbers I wonder if Sony really chose the right release date for the PS4 (not in terms of copetitition: Wii U is still doing meh, so they probably are still happy this way...)

EDIT: about the holiday bump for wiiu: I'm not sure about it. I think it was DQX imho. otherwise we would have seen a significant bump also for 3DS

I'm surprised at GT6 given how low the UK numbers were. Makes me think the PS4 launch did affect it to an extent.

Between Week 40 and Week 44 the Wii U sold 12,874 units (MC), and average of 3,219 per week.

In a single week last week it sold nearly 4 times that combined 4 weeks of sales.

Fuck you if you want to pretend this week's number was likely.
Little bit OTT there.

WIU - 46,773

Edit: Wait, isn't the 3DS selling less than we expected this holiday season?

I doubt DQX had little to do with it, this is just an expansion. The increase is higher than expected, though:

3DS will end year down on last year's total. I think we can say that with confidence now.

Vita TV is a mega bomba in Japan. Sony should bring it to the west.

Inazuma 11 just seems exhausted, another franchise driven into the ground by L5.

Vita will end the year as the second best selling platform. Whelp.

Wii U benefiting from Nintendo's strong holiday performance, would be interesting to see how it compares to the Gamecube in it's first real holiday season.

Really? Even with titles like PDZ and Zelda coming out? That's too bad.

Shall we change that "come on Wii U horse" GIF to "come on Vita TV horse"?

No need to be so vile

We can start singing some old-ass British football anthems and celebrate this short moment before it vanishes..

..vanishes, like VitaTV from the 5-digits-space

Anyone saying Wii U selling this well was expected is lying, plain and simple.

Edit: and I also said something similar in the other thread. :)

I'm not at all surprised. I told people it needed to be a PS4 launch title. Sony really blew a golden opportunity by putting it exclusively on PS3.

Yeah, the expansion pack sold WiiU's when the original game didn't. Or it could be that the holiday period is what's providing the actual bump.

I thought it contained the base game + expansion, I was wrong. Still I think it will go back to 20k numbers.

So an expansion to a game which didn't sell consoles is selling consoles?

I see you guys are getting out from your covers, NPD is coming take care. Though it had the base game too, my bad.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
How is the Bravely Default sequel sales? Looks pretty terrible right?

It's an expansion that can be bought by original owners of the game on eShop for a discounted price, its debut was very good actually.

Little bit OTT there.

I'm just saying, people going 'Oh, it's just the holiday bump' should remember how poorly the system was doing just a few weeks ago. And I don't think a holiday bump was guaranteed after the system didn't jump that much with Mario or the bundle's release and Vita's performance last year proving it was possible to go through the entire season without rising very much.

At 8k, maybe.

Cant expect much more for home console in Japan anyway nowadays...just look at the last PS3 years, were it was the only console getting noteworthy releases.

I still don't quite comprehend why it exists.

One theory I have is that Sony wanted to have *some* new home gaming product on the market this Christmas even if they couldn't bring the PS4 over in time. Which... still seems somewhat nuts.

It's SmokyDave and you're celebrating a Nintendo success (in before he quotes me saying that it hardly counts as a success)...Just ignore it.

Still have the million seller in likely in puzzle and Dragon so it's not over yet.

Fixed.

DQX syndrome. Is going back to 20k+ numbers next week if lucky.

Do you think that? Who would buy a new console for an expansion pack of an MMO that in itself was not interesting enough to justify buying the console? I doubt that many people are buying a Wii U solely for the expansion pack. If people were, they'd also need to buy the base game, but that's nowhere to be seen, so I guess a drop next week should be 11,337 units max (assuming DQX exactly matches the unit sales of the last entry of the chart)?
