Media Create Sales: Week 49, 2013 (Dec 02 - Dec 08)

Vita beating Wii U. for Christmas. No idea on numbers but I'm guessing he's expecting the wii u to continue with it's normal holiday bump and the Vita to continue to do what it's been doing (staying reasonably consisten.

Didn't Vita just have that 80k week.

Just did a quick calculation in my head (rounding to the nearest 1k):

From Nov-Present:

Vita is 73 000 ahead of WiiU

3 weeks left so the WiiU needs to beat the Vita by 24k each week.

Anyone taking any bets :) this seems close.

Depends on your cut off point. but yeah if we start from God eater 2 and Vita tv launch then it'll probably be close.

yup, right after the first God Eater gets re-released on the 3DS ..

Monster hunter didn't need that Honstly it'd be more profitable short term may harm to series long term if it does sell well on 3DS. So it could go either way

Why? Those sales seem fine, 500k combined without digital iirc.

November and December are the holiday months are they not?

I think you mean God Eater: Chibi Spinoff Edition.

Oregano pls.

Those Wii U numbers are meant to be good for this time of year? Oooookay...

I would say so. It's pretty much the bottom end of 3DS sales on a bad week. Considering how portable dependent Japan is, and how badly the wii u normally says it's done very well for only having an 80k selling game.

Only "Persona salt" I can recall was from 3DS evangelists when P5 was announced :p
I don't think anyone honestly expected it to be for the 3DS. The game was announced for PS3 pretty much ages ago. The Vita fans have more to be annoyed at considering no port yet and a dancing game.

Is that including Vita TV..or just the handheld? I don't count Vita TV as that's likely just selling to current Vita owners as an expensive HDMI out.

What is more impressive is to see a lot of 3DS and Wii U titles getting some very welcome bumps or at least not losing sales from one week to another (as is the case with SM3DW).

Iwata is probably breathing more easily now that the Wii U is selling okay-ish, but the true test is after January. If they can keep the momentum going with releases from February and forward, the platform might still have a chance. It would be interesting if the MK8 and SSB4 releasing in Spring 2014 rumour is true and if they could get DKC:TF to release in February, with MK8 following in April and SSB4 in March. That would be the best case scenario and it would keep a nice boost on sales. Where is that Nintendo Direct when we need it?

No. November is the ramp up to the holidays, but I wouldn't consider early November as the holidays.

Probably not if those NPD projections are even close to true. Now the thing about momentum is that it actually requires a consistent release schedule and no this does not mean 1 game every month. You can't have weeks of no releases which the Wii U is looking down.

I'd say it would be in general. I think people are forgetting how badly the ps3 sold in Japan for most of it's lifetime. The issue with the wii u is that it'll drop ridiculously afterwards.
I'm not comparing it to PS3, I'm comparing it to Nintendo's forecasts. These sales are good given how the Wii U has performed thus far, but in general they're not good since Nintendo needs to hit higher to even start making a dent on their forecast figures.

Nintendo has terrible forecasts. Even during the wii years.

PS4 will probably change that.

Honestly don't see how, It's improve the console situation but the console situation hasn't been good this entire generation it's also expensive and will for a long time be severely lacking in support even in comparison to the Vita..

If the PS4 changes things I doubt it'd be apparent this time next year.

I honestly doubt that. The launch lineup definitely isn't instilling much confidence for a success, and neither is the future lineup. Japan will remain dominated by 3DS and mobile.

looking at how people in the west bought it despite it having mostly cross-gen games, we could start seeing the PS4 lineup as a good one, imho. yakuza, MGS V demo, and other Japanese games are there, even if multiplatform with PS3.
3DS and mobile are a different field, in any case, imho.

Well they used the term "seems dead" so perhaps they mean it will change to "is definitely". :p

The West is still very much console-centric, though.

The west and Japan are very different though. Japan is not obsessing over better graphics so cross gen seems like a horrible strategy for a launch in Japan.

On another note, I wonder how much money DQ has made for Square so far. It seems to be doing amazing. What is the combined LTD of all the versions? It has to be approaching 1 million right?

That's not remotely the same the consoles were a large success in the West as is supported by every major developer. Consoles in Japan just plain aren't and haven't been most of this generation.

Problem with the PS4 is that there's till a tons of game being released for PS3 only, lots of the japanese ps4 games are also available on ps3 and/or vita for cheaper of course, they also need to pay in order to play online. Also the damn thing can't play PS3 games until gakai is out and who knows which one will be available and how well they will play.

Unless some kind of miracle happens i don't see it doing that well.

Cross-gen primarily makes sense if you think a notable portion of your audience will be on PS4 for one reason or another.

That's probably a pretty small set of games though.

Two months ago people belived PS4 and Xbox will strugle in west as every major game they had was also playable on X360/PS3 and exclusives were weak.

Games aren't reason why people are buying consoles in launch period.
