NPD Sales Results for November 2013 [Up3: Zelda, Pokemon, Mario, 3DS, Wii U]

Getting US would be a massive blow to MS, they have the exceptional word of mouth and popularity of post-E3 right now and the price advantage. Those secondaty markets will be there but US is the most important one and the MS bastion....

Not to Sony, you guys give too much credit to your market. Win USA while pissing the rest of the world for the sake of winning NPD. I believe it's way better to give the people who supported all your consoles a good launch too. Because money is the same in the USA, EU or Asia (and probably Sony makes more money in EU).

K is shadow fall.

Knack didn't break 100k (at retail...). Is selling better than internal expectations.

Ps4 was about 200k over xb1. Barely moved 100k the rest of the month after launch. Sacrificing huge NA lead for huge WW lead. Xb1 will win December in NA.

Vita over 2 mil in US and Sony has absolutely no plans on abandoning it. The numbers are fucking awful though. Expect a price drop with the new model before spring. Vita tv will make it here as well, possibly through online vendors only. Working all that out.

232k for wii u. It needs to find a cheap niche... I think hd remakes is the way to go - cheap to make, don't need large install base to turn profit.

Nothing is dead yet. Hyperbole explosion. This is neogaf forum dot gif file extension.

If you've answered, apologies but famous, wouldn't that depend on Dec shipments of both consoles?

If sony can make 1.2MM a month and 500k are going to asia, some have to go to europe so assume maybe 400-500k max?
I suppose, though maybe a bit more. zomgbbqftw mentioned that they were going to ship some units this month that were originally intended for January (I think in mainland Europe?), so it might help a bit.

Unlike the consoles sales, days on market probably means something for game sales, so I wouldn't get carried away with this one until December.

It's NBA Live. lol.

I agree. I'm just trying to see what the data actually tells us. I'm not certain that you can look at that, and extrapolate anything for third party sales going forward outside of relative percentages as compared to the install bases.

It also may be that the Bone as a Kinect device skewed more casual, with a lower attach rate? I dunno.

EA shitting their pants?

Also posting in Legendary thread for history sake! Both next gen consoles doing mighty fine. Never believed the "one console future" nor "console crash" BS. Hilarious that people used WiiU when saying some of these doom scenarios.
Unless One and PS4 can hit at least 50-60 million units in America we're going to see a significant contraction of the dedicated home console market.

If neither hit at least 50 million units in America alone we're going to see a massive contraction.

The consoles are dying, people only want tablets crowd are mighty quiet nowadays.

People want both.

EA must be pretty happy about the Drive Club delay. Funny that they are so snuggly with Microsoft but the PS4 brings in the numbers.

I'm from EU, that's why I know EU is not going anywhere.

Interesting to see Madden do better on PS4 when televised NFL games are just plastered with Xbox One ads that feature the game.

Or it costs $100 more and you have less money to spend on games?

Boy that is a really, really, really, really bad idea. Titan Fall will completely turn the tide in NA, Sony definitely needed sell every unit possible before then.

X1 selling 900k and PS4 selling 1.1m means a 45/55 split. Shouldn't be a surprise the software sales reflect that.

Thread is moving fast. Where did 1.1 number come from? Thought they had 1 million in the first 3 days. Did they only sell 100,000 in the next 11 days?

I was always of the opinion that WiiU needed to be $249 to do anything in America, now I think $199 is the only price which could move vast quantities of the console.

Get rid of the tablet controller and sell it with a Pro controller for $199 with a choice of game between Wind Waker HD, NSMB or Mario 3D World.

Market the hell out of it for the launch of MK8 in March, if the console is still selling sub 200 000 per month in America and sub 20k per week in Japan then I really think they should just apologise to the people who have already bought one and get the next console out in time for Xmas 2015. Maybe move the new HD Zelda over to it as a launch game and give it away free to existing WiiU owners ?.

PS4 was the only one to get the buy 2 get 1 free deal from Target and Amazon and it shows.

This is the thinking as I understand it.

MS wanted to dominate US/UK enough to keep it close and make crazy money off of services.

Sony wants to sell more consoles. Period.

If at the end of '14 the ps4 and xb1 are close in the us/UK and Sony is trampling ms everywhere else... Sony wins at what it wants - games. And having the larger install base worldwide means that the price for Microsoft to money hat games goes up drastically with their reduced install base. There's also plenty of data that points to demand giving the ps4 legs well into '14 where the xb1 will get a march/April bump from titanfall and flatline until Halo. So there's a good chance that by next fall Sony has worldwide and us/UK. At that point it's a catastrophe for MS.

I'm guessing here as well but I also don't think they knew demand in the US would be this high. I mean it's not like Sony short changed NA. They broke the damn record for launch consoles sold. The problem for the US in December is Sony is in 30+ and growing markets and xb1 is in 13 while concentrating on 2 of them.

Will be fun. And competition will fight off complacency.

math... not your strong suit

All you guys bashing his math need to go back and refresh on intermediary math.

Assuming (I don't personally assume this) COD attach rate is same on both XB1 and PS4 then:

6.4 is to 909K as 7.4 is to X

In other words

6.4/909 = 7.4/X

Now solve for X

6.4X = 6726.6

X = 1051K

How is selling less in 9 days than your competitor did in one in a territory you dominated during the previous generation a great month?

PS4 had the best launch ever, IIRC.

The fact that it wasn't a destructive wave blowout is good for everyone, including Microsoft

Terrific, Sony isn't going to abandon the Vita! But will hey start supporting it? Where are the first party games for this thing? PSPlus and PS4 remote play are cool, but they need to make games!

To be fair, we don't know what kind of PS4 shipments NA is getting this month...

Just from the anecdotal evidence of all the friends and family who didn't get in on PS4 pre-orders, but put late orders, all getting their systems this week...I'd say the shipment was healthy. Literally everyone I know that ordered late and was "processing" an online order from Oct-Nov. now has a system delivered. (This is in the USA.)

It's still not to the point where I've actually seen a box sitting on a retail shelf yet, but I've gotta think we're getting way closer to that point than we were. Makes me think that if something I determine I must own drops in Jan-Feb it won't be a big deal for me to finally get off my ass and go pick up a system.

To be far, they've been supporting it with constant patches. 2 news ones came out within last week.

I've been playing regularly, and yeah, it's now down to 600k to 1.25k. Quite a difference from those 1.5k+ to 2.5k.

So many people have stopped playing mainly because it isn't getting really supported. Treyarch seems to be trying to keep it alive, but without DLC and content updates, it's dead in the water. It doesn't help that none of your user data transfers to other platforms so the Wii U version is this solitary beast that really shouldn't have been made if they had no intention of supporting it. And the fact that Activision STILL hasn't supported the eShop doesn't bode well for the future. Best not to give them anymore money.

The 3rd party sales are going to make it increasingly difficult for MS to secure exclusives from 3rd parties.

I think the split between 360 and XB1 for Call of Duty is an interesting one. I wonder how big the split Titanfall will be between the two.

6.4% isn't the attach rate, it's XB1's percentage of total CoD sales.

Let's do the same math with the 360.

6.4 is to 909k as 55.45 is to X

6.4/909 = 55.45/X

6.4X=50404.05

X = 7875K 360s sold.

Nope.

If we had CoD's total November sales we could figure it out but I don't think we do.

So 2DS at 99$ bundles stil could not outsell The PS4 or the Xbone. The 3DS family sold less than November 2011. So much for doing great.

Great numbers for the PS4 and Xbone. No exclusive of either consoles is not surprising. Mario and Zelda bomba.

Really?

If I ship 5 units, what's the most I can sell? If I ship 900,000 units, what's the most?

And do you realize exactly 2 consoles in history have launched with numbers this high?
They money hatted EA for exclusive features that we're supposed to care about. This is their meat and potatoes and they only manage 35%-40%. It's a poor home performance imo. No dig to them overall. But sports was a big part of their message and it has not resonated with the majority of customers.
