I'd say it's closer to Ninja Gaiden than DMC.
It's horrible when more people can play games, isn't it? Especially when they can make said game superior with a constant 60fps and better graphical options.

Castlevania port was very good, as were the Silent Hill ports. Metal Gear Solid 1 & 2 were pretty poor if I remember correctly.
As Infinite said, all irrelevant since Platinum is, apparently, doing the port.

Freaky Post From the Future: Well to be fair the less you have invested in the MG universe the more you'd get out of Rising, I'd say. It's set 4 years after MGS4 but has very little in the way of connected narrative and outside of a few references nothing much is mentioned. Most of the characters are original to this game.
Plus the fun comes from the gameplay which considering how little dev time Platinum had it's super tight. Not their most involved or deep combat system but once you get to grips with the parrying and linking that into combos and then the Blade Mode/Zandatsu mechanic it's oddles of fun. Not to mention some of the best, if not the best boss encounters in ages.

People in the Steam thread were saying it doesn't spoil other MGS games and you don't need to have any knowledge of the series to understand what was going on.

I wish GAF stayed exclusive to people with sense.
It doesnt really matter. The game is it's own thing really, There is a shit ton of the traditional codec conversations if you want to know more about "plot".
As far as I'm concerned behind MGS3 it's the most coherent MGS game in the series.

You need to know nothing, literally nothing. Backstory comes up maybe five in a few codec calls that are optional and you will likely miss them, and every character other than Metal Gear RAY, Raiden and Sunny are all basically brand new for the game.
