Falcom announces Sen no Kiseki sequel (PS3/Vita), new major title, and social games

I hope the new game is Ys 8, because those games actually get localized.
Admittedly I suspect anything short of being ANOTHER Kiseki game already we'd probably see the PS4 game if that's what it is. Hot new console, likely relatively reasonable to localize with minimal baggage to worry about, and a good relationship with XSEED? I'd be shocked if they didn't rush to do it.

I don't expect to see Falcom making any PS4 games... hell I don't expect any Japanese developer that isn't Square or Capcom to touch the system for a long while, but maybe I'm wrong and it's an easy port from a PS3/Vita project.

I just want Ys to be 60fps again... and maybe back to PC? please Falcom ;_;

Well, as we noted above the PS4 is easier to develop for, and the architecture is more PC like and you know what's where they were before becoming primarily a PSP/Vita developer. They're probably in a better position to jump in sooner than later than other small Japanese developers really, and it hopefully won't be the PS3 or even PS2 all over again where we're waiting years before JRPGs really ramp up on it. I know they're longer to develop than, say, some action game or shooter, but it got kinda crazy there.
Co-signed. The Kiseki series looks fun and all, but by the time that game came out we'd be looking at PS5 rumors.
Well, Falcom does have other series, and even for Kiseki they can make more spin-offs that aren't connected to the story or even set in the same universe.

The easier architecture is a huge plus, I can see them doing it if it's cheap, but the PS4 isn't even out in Japan and I expect them to be really cautious considering Japan is handheld land. You aren't seeing any devs saying anything about PS4, and I expect 2014-2015 to be all about the PS3/3DS/Vita

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
How about a port of Ys Origins or a remake of Ys V?

All these JRPG being announced on consoles tell me that console gaming in Japan has not totally died off yet.

I'm...sorry? I didn't know my random post was so offensive?
Because you seemed upset of the possibility being on a platform you don´t like/own.
I think he means "It's annoying it's only plausible on Vita and PC."

No bro. I was annoyed that he seems to shrug of the platforms even though it was not announced for them.

Woah, I'm genuinely surprised. Looks like we're
graduating
! I can't believe it looks like I'm getting what I wanted.

PS4 Ys with gargantuan monsters? My money is ready, Falcom.

I heard Celceta had an abrupt ending, if that's really tying into a second game then I'll definitely be surprised... though I wonder if that's actually going to be an Ys V remake, tied deeply into Ys IV this time around?

Honestly I think it would be tying in to Ys 8, and yeah the ending was abrupt, but not as a result of what I'm talking about, but spoilers.

I'm not sure what leads you to believe this. Ys 4 fits very early in the chronology, I'm kinda doubtful that Ys 8 will take place that early in Adol's life.

Specifically the fact that
They mentioned Adol wants to eventually find a way to the Orient on his own. After Ys IV, he visits Felghana, after Felghana he goes to Afroca, after that he hits Caanan, then Altago. He has yet to visit the Ys version of any of Asia yet, but they went out of their way in the ending of Celceta to mention it. New drawing has a Phoenix, very traditional Asian imagery.

Finally Sen 2!
And I hope that one of the games being developed is Brandish 5 or Brandish related but it could be Ys 8.

I'm not saying that's not where he'll go, but it's really just process of elimination at this point.

Still, what's got me most interested is the Brahmic-esque glyphs in one of the images.

Awesome. Now to wait for a decade to play it. At least if Ys 8 is coming I'll get to play that relatively soon.

bishopcruz: Noted, I guess I'll just need to rip through Celceta to properly comment.
Whats the % this to be released in EU?
Are we talking like 0% chances?
100%... in Japanese and from an import shop somewhere there.

Otherwise probably 0% in the foreseeable future, and if it does I bet it'll be digital-only unless someone in the right position loses their minds and tries for an ambitiously large localization effort to get the whole series out FAST. Probably would require teams for each game and crazy amounts of coordination and it'd probably still have weird inconsistencies here and there... and probably still take like 3 to 4 years if the Tales games are any indication and if they want to keep releases reasonably paced.

Damn, the fact it's taking 3 for SC really is a great example for why learning Japanese would be more practical than waiting, even if you'd probably have to cram like crazy to be reasonably literate for Kiseki games. :/

I've got to admit, I really miss when Falcom was focused on the PC.

I hope that they go back to the PC through Trails in the Sky selling a lot of copies on Steam.

This does indeed look great, though. I hope that eventually XSEED localizes most of the Legend of Heroes games. I may have to give up and play imported versions of these games, anyway.

Well, Falcom leaving PC was better for localization odds, though it figures they leave right as Steam takes off.

I feel like I've been saying that for a long time now. Even assuming the games get localized (which I still think is a stretch) it isn't going to get any faster.

And I'm really interested in the other game. Would love more Ys, but if it's something else that would be neat too as long as it gets localized. Ys would have a better chance though... see Nayuta.

The problem (for me, at least) is that even when I have sufficient Japanese literacy to play the games, RPGs are so text-heavy and I'm not at the level where I'm super comfortable with the language that it's not somewhat taxing to read them.

Playing Kiseki games untranslated is tiring. I wish Japanese games would make my life easier by at least giving me romaji options. :/

yeah. I mean, they could port them to PC but Xseed isn't going to do that, anyways that will be a problem in 2045 when we get TC.

By then, I'll be wearing OCR-enable glasses that translate Japanese text on-screen anyway. :p

I feel Nayuta was damned more by timing really. If it came out in, say, 2008 or 2009 on PSP, or last year on 3DS in addition to PSP (or even gets a 3DS/Vita version sooner than latter)? Yeah, we'd probably see it or have seen it, it looks to have a saner amount of text, VA is limited and it's a pretty good action RPG.
maybe I was being too optimistic with that date.
Admittedly if we were actually seeing them all that'd be the time for this Kiseki game. The Third would probably be 2016 or even 2015 if SC goes well enough. Zero and So would be a problem though.

The Ys producer in the Playstation Awards interview says that he want to work with the Vita again, hopefully not rushed as Celceta this time.

I have more or less enjoyed any FALCOM game I played so far, so I would welcome any new product from them, especially if it's new stuff and it's coming to PC.

That's a very weird thing to get annoyed about. First off, if you don't like or own a platform you have a right to be upset when a game you want is coming to them but not you. Second, I wasn't even talking about that. I was talking about how its own PS3 but its not coming to us on that because by the time they're done with 3rd Chapter and the two Vita games, even if they did one every year (unlikely) it'd be...2016? At best? Then they could get to the PS3 ones for a timely 2017 release. :p

So basically they're pretty much confined to Vita (if it lives that long) and PC, which is fine since I'm using a PC to speak to you so that means I DO have one.

Learning Japanese is becoming a necessity... I must make some time to study,

It's a pretty difficult language to wrangle, honestly.
