So is God Eater 2 the only game people are buying for their Vita?
According to Dengeki, God Eater 2 Vita sold about 13k last week, while the total Vita retail software sales was about 54k. So other games are being bought too, just in much smaller numbers.

Judging by that amazon list I'm guessing the wii u is going to continue to have a fairly strong Christmas. Consider how adverse Japan is to console in comparison to the rest of the world and wii u is seemingly not getting those sorts of bumps there, I imagine this is entire off the back of a strong marketing campaign, strength of brand due to 3DS and lack of competition, in the console space.

I'm still not even quite sure Sony decided completely Japan despite launching in many countries in Asia, Can't see how it won't bite them in the ass next year.

Didn't Monster Hunter: Frontier G release for the Wii U this week? I remember that the PS3 version did like 18K or something. Didn't the Wii U version chart at all or is it only available digitally?

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

06./00. [WIU] Nintendo Land <ETC> (Nintendo) {2012.12.08} (¥4.935) - 72.121 / NEW

So...what does this demonstrate?
Simple: the ratios between actual sales and pts have been much, much lower in basically all the last launches than usualy. Probably, this is because launches are when "core" audiences are more present than any other, and they are the ones preorderding the most.

Strangely, Vita launch preorders kind of revert this trend

Persona 4 Golden worldwide shipped more than that on Vita alone. I know Square has destroyed Final Fantasy with XIII but I'd say it'll do pretty good.

Persona 4 Golden is an exclusive to the Vita vs FFX & FFX-2 being on the PS3 and Vita. The Vita version is more expensive, and you'll have to download FFX-2 if you buy that bundle vs getting both on disc on PS3.

I hope Vita FFx and FFX-2 pull in 200k total at the end of the first month.

I also would like to see GE2 hit 400k on Vita before a rerelease .

In japan X-2 is getting a physical release and the bundle of X & X-2 costs the same as ps3 version.

Attack of the Titan sold out on Yodobashi, 7-11, Softmap, Bic Camera and Tsutaya.

Amazon ships in 2-3 weeks, it's been like that for a while now, not sure what that means.

Looks like Spike was caught by surprise!

I think the WiiU bump has a lot to do with a combination of the new Bundles increasing perceived value to customers and the release of Mario 3D World. Obviously the Holidays helped massively aswell but if Nintendo could get WiiU up to a new baseline of 20 - 25k per week I'm sure they would be delighted considering it was selling 3-5k per week just a few weeks ago.

25k per week is around 1.5 million consoles per year if you add on a few weeks of Holiday bumps. If WiiU sold 9 million units in Japan in it's lifetime I think Nintendo would be absolutely delighted.

9 million would be amazing (keep in mind the Wii has sold 12.7mil in Japan), but at the rate it is going it will be lucky to hit 4 million before it is discontinued. Gamecube sold 4 million in Japan.

Donkey Kong 2/13. Bet we see Mario Kart end of March.

Will Nintendo not be desperate to get MK out at the start of March Worldwide so the hardware bump from it is part of the years financial results ?.

If Iwata wants to get a lot closer to his insane hardware predictions I imagine he would want MK out for at least a couple of weeks so he could say 'hardware sales have risen by xxx% since the release of the highly anticipated MK8' at the end of year financial meeting.

yeah no kidding, if Nintendo were to pull that kind of miracle it could very well outsell the PS4 in Japan depending on how its sales turn out
.....don't count on that happening though

Oh, Monster Hunter Frontier G was released at retail for Wii U on December 11th. I'd say it got Wii U'd but it's MHF. The Vita version is going to have some hilarious sales.

For the people who aren't regulars in Media Create threads:

What is Tsutaya?
Tsutaya is a major retailer with 1,442 retail stores (610 that sell new games) all across Japan.

What is Comgnet?
Comgnet is the website for the retailer "COMG!" that has 17 retail stores across the Niigata Prefecture in Japan.

Why post these rankings?
They are released three days before Media Create + Famitsu + Dengeki give us nationwide sales, so we get a general indication of how well the games will perform relative to their competition.

How accurate is Tsutaya compared to nationwide retail tracking services?
It's large enough that it gives a very probable indication of future sales rankings, but it's not large enough to be definitive.

How accurate was Tsutaya's rankings last week?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
The PSP version is the reason why it's also on Vita in the first place - they probably would jumped onto the 3DS if it weren't for the extra sales.

Btw. Congrats at Puzzle vs. Dragon Z - hope Nintendo publishes in the West next year for a budget price.

Yeah it probably just would have sold worse overall.

I didn't really know about this. So the game was originally made for PSP then?

I feel like PDZ is going to single handedly outsell all Gungho's other console and handheld games combined so far. If it hasn't already.

If I'm not mistaken, the PSP version was announced and started development first, and then the Vita version was announced.

Edit: iirc, at some point the Vita version became the "source" (is that the right term?) version. Both were released simultaneously though.

I don' think the Vita version would have sold more if exclusive though, since I guess most fans of the franchise already have a Vita.

Sorry I probably missed it already but will the Japanese sales be released early or later next week as Xmas is next Wed ?. Thanks.
I'd imagine it would be the same as Christmas isn't a holiday here in Japan. For New Years they'll probably be delayed as that is a holiday.

Another of my emails (thanks source!). Pull the arms off my Daisuki Teddy plush if shouldn't be posted.

Famitsu:

-the only Vita game in Top 50 is God Eater 2 (lol)

-MHFG is not in Top 50; it's less than 3k units

Shipment (for the previous week)

GT6 (PS3) <400k

MH4 (3DS) <4M

Pokemon X/Y (3DS) <4M

P&DZ (3DS) <700k

GTAV (360) <600k

Mario & Sonic at Sochi 2014 (WiiU) <20% (2nd week)

Can you really call a "Best" re-release a bomba? Unless you're Monster Hunter those always start off slow.

Gaist Crusher is probably the JP bomba of the year.

9 million would be amazing (keep in mind the Wii has sold 12.7mil in Japan), but at the rate it is going it will be lucky to hit 4 million before it is discontinued. Gamecube sold 4 million in Japan.

Um, forgive me if I'm mistaken, but I keep reading that the Wii U is now officially outpacing the PS3 at this point in the PS3's life in Japan. If that's true, the PS3 is at 9 million LTD so iit's not impossible with those statistics alone.

depending on the alignement, it's slight ahead or behind the PS3
so it's not outpacing it. but it's similar

the main differences:
PS3 had a huge crazy price. Wii U isn't cheap as the Wii but the room for effective price cuts is way smaller than PS3
PS3 had tons of support for many reasons, while Wii U will struggle to release 1 game every Quarter (that would not be enougn in any case to sustain steady sales)

So: no way that the Wii U will have similar PS3 LTD numbers

It is not impossible, but it is not impossible for me to go to the moon either. Better to think in terms of what is probable. Wii u selling anywhere near 9mil in japan ltd is definitely not probable at this point in time, unless they suddenly get a boatload of major 3rd party games and sustain that support for 7 years, as that was the fuel that propelled the ps3's sales, along with it being the only home console to play blurays (another thing the U cannot do).

Hey, you're the one who specifically mentioned "at this rate." Just got me thinking as to the recent news article I've read of Wii U surpassing PS3, which I thought was relevant to add. I don't think it will do 9 million either, but obviously things just as crazy happened last gen.

Sony had some early screw-ups with launch pricing, Nintendo had some early screw-ups with lack of software. I will say that Nintendo's problem is going to be harder to resolve though.
