]I'm still going to be very curious to see what they end up doing with Dream Drop Distance. They're going to find *some* way of putting it on consoles[/B] (sorry, protesting 3DS fans who think it'll magically remain exclusive forever), but between a bunch of the Dream Eater minigames, the Reality Shift mechanic, Flick Rush, and probably a few other things I'm forgetting, the dual-screen and touchscreen mechanics get a LOT of heavy use. It's a pity, because despite the game's deep flaws and obviously rushed development, the combat is nearly as good as Birth By Sleep (though not quite as much so - removing Command Styles, D-Link, the Finisher tree, and Shoot Lock and adding Dream Eaters, Reality Shift, and FlowMotion in their place is a terrible, terrible exchange). But I think the only real possibilities are a reasonably ambitious remake that altered a lot of those mechanics (unlikely) or a cutscene-only version (extremely likely, though perhaps not coming until KH 1.5 and KH 2.5 get repackaged together on PS4). The main reason that's not getting announced right now is that KH:DDD is still getting some minor amount of sales and Square-Enix doesn't want to undercut that too soon. But mark my words, it'll happen at some point - it's too crucial to understanding where the story is in KH3, and not releasing DDD's story (at least) for consoles would run fully counter to Nomura's statements about wanting to get the full KH story back to console players in time for KH3.

Interesting for you to say this. This interview just got released:

The most interesting thing Nomura states is that he acknowledges that while Kingdom Hearts 3D is important to lead into Kingdom Hearts III, he does not see it as necessary to remaster.

I would kinda like for it to happen (even though I think DDD is a massive step down from BBS), but unless KH3 is a late 2015 or 2016 title, I don't see it happening.

Makes sense. DDD is still fresh (2012). 3DSes have been selling and the install base is getting bigger. I guess he figured that many people would just buy it for that.

I think that has to be the official position for a while, given that KH3D's existence was something Nintendo promoted from the very very beginning of the 3DS and seemingly well before it was ready to show to people (I'm not saying it was moneyhatted, because Nintendo doesn't generally do that nor do they generally need to do that with their handheld platforms, but it seems reasonably likely that it was 'secured' in some sense fairly early on), and because the title is still selling on a platform considered 'current-gen,' but that's all got to do with not cannibalizing KH:DDD sales. I still think it's going to happen inevitably at some point (again, much more likely as a cutscene-only release because that wouldn't take as much time or resources), but it'd be announced as late as possible, IMO.

Yep, exactly. That's not a reason for it never to get remastered, but it's a reason not to announce a remaster yet.

In a sense, yeah. I think its just that its from just 2012. No need to announce a remaster or get hopes up for when people could still be buying it. Hopes of a remaster would just stop many holdouts from buying.

I could easily see a remaster coming with Kingdom Hearts 3 (or KH3 Final Mix) once the potential for any real sales of 3D being gone.

KH: ReCom came out years after KH2. I really hope that doesn't happen to DDD. :(

Why not? Its story is important and it deserves to be seen by as many people as possible who are genuinely interested in knowing what's up before they play KH3. Not to mention the overall game design is poor/flawed/incomplete enough that it's not really a must-play as far as gameplay is concerned.

Or do you mean you hope it doesn't take that long?

I could see some sort of remake of DDD coming with the inevitable KH3 Final Mix exactly in the vein of what they did with Re:COM. I'd definitely be interested in that.
