Nintendo Maintenance/Operational Status Thread

Luckily I unpacked and updated the new Wii U a few days ago, so this wasn't a huge deal to me, but still... Cmon Nintendo - it's not like Christmas Day snuck up on you. I wanted to play on the eShop.

Still...maybe the high traffic volume means Nintendo saved? o_O

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
I looked up the error code I was getting and googling it apparently it shows it when its down for maintenance, I just happen to see this thread but it doesnt look like its down for maintenance, more people getting on right now

I thought it was a problem with my internet connection. Good to know it's not just me. I really wanted to play some CoD multiplayer too, but oh well. I'll just wait it out. I'm a little pissed though because I had to make a new Nintendo Network ID when I just wanted to link it with my 3DS ID.

Anyway to switch accounts or still be able to link my Wii U NNID with my 3DS one?

Also, this system update is sooooo sloooowwww. Like god damn.

My sister got a Wii game as a present, so I wanted to try and do a system transfer (for my incomplete Galaxy 1/2 saves) before she started playing. The first time I tried to download the software on the Wii I got as far as clicking download before it died, and nothing since then. I'm going to keep trying though. Side moan: the loading of the Wii Shop software itself takes so fucking long.

Guess the Holliday ad campaign worked out good
I sure hope so

Thanks for the thread, LA, subbed.

You're welcome, glad this thread is useful to some people at least :)

Yep, no internet for my Wii U.

You would think Nintendo would be ready for the Christmas traffic.

It's always a bit hard to predict that sort of stuff, though it's true they didn't seem very prepared...

Of course it's slow, loads of people trying to download it at once. For your ID, you can go the to console setting and delete it, but then, all the purchases done with the new ID will be gone too (shouldn't be a problem, since the eShop hasn't been available for hours). Then, once the new ID is gone, you can link your existing ID.

Little 'tip' for people : for now, wait before doing any online stuff. Servers are overloaded, so don't add to their woes ;)
I think waiting until tomorrow is better, server should be back to normal by then.

Thanks! Looks like I'll hold off on downloading WWHD until I delete this ID and use my old one.

Girlfriend surprised me with a Zelda 3DS for Xmas. System transfer has been borked for a few hours over here. Feels bad.

I hope it's a sign of things changing for the Wii U, but I doubt it.

Would be great if that is the case though.

Didn't know we had a thread just to bitch about these things, sweet!

So yeah, I unnecessarily stayed up for hours last night AFTER the supposed end to maintenance...but the eShop is still down ten hours later. In the process Nintendo also triple-charged my card. Not too happy ATM, especially since I wanted to get a few games for my kids on the eShop last night.

Seriously, Nintendo, like Christmas Day is a surprise to you? Get it together, what a bad impression they're making on customers today. Definitely feel bad for the probable reality that there are network engineers and techs getting recalled into work starting from last night....

I haven't tried Wii U yet. Is everything down? Miiverse, etc?

I'm just trying to update my Animal Crossing New Leaf and it's not working. I don't even know what I'm missing out on, it just says certain network features. It probably doesn't matter since the network is KO'd anyway.

I feel for any poor bastards who just got a non-updated Wii U.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
Tell me this is a joke. Tell me they didn't decide to release such a thing on the busiest eshop day of the year.

In theory it should not matter as there should be NA Servers and Japanese Servers even if they did.

This is Nintendo and online so all bets are off though.

The messed up part is that they were ok with delaying its release a few days in other regions.

Eh, the system would probably be down anyway. Everyone trying to update their Wii U, 3DS, and various games.

Wait, does this mean no Mario Kart 7 multiplayer???

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
I finally got a 3DS today as a gift!

Boy this sure is a fantastic online service they're running after 8 hours of eShope failure. I am thoroughly impressed.

I got through a certain point at redeeming my free Mario 3D Land only to be errored out. Boy I sure hope that hasn't been ghosted away forever.

People need to simmer down. It's bad for all consoles today. This isn't Nintendo exclusive.

It means they can't handle the peak load, which is fairly common for all Internet related things on super busy days. Why? It costs a damn fortune to run servers that only get used once in a year.

I can't do a simple system transfer so I can use my new 3DS. That shouldn't be an issue on a day like today.

Game downloads, sure. Pinging them quick to confirm a transfer and they can't handle that? That's pathetic.

Every year since 2008 as far as I remember.

I guess they don't even care that it goes down each time then. Probably not worth upgrading their servers since it's only this busy one day of the year.

New Leaf hasn't ever gotten an update yet so don't worry about it.

I can currently access PSN through Vita and Web Store on PC, Google Play on Android and PC, Steam store on PC, and Xbox.com related stores.

Because its Nintendo. (I expect small outages and total peak blockages, but not an entire day of unrelenting failure)

I'd hardly dare show my face at the next Direct if I was in charge, its just embarrassing that even with such a low number of users they still can't handle it, and seemingly do nothing to prevent it year after year.

For now, it's better to avoid trying to update anything or accessing the eShop. Just wait a bit for the servers to catch their breath :)p) and try again tomorrow.

This sucks, really. Zelda just came out in Japan and I can't buy it.

Nintendo really does not get this online stuff. There's no way the demand is *that* high.

Tell me this is a joke. Tell me they didn't decide to release such a thing on the busiest eshop day of the year.

Pokémon Bank on Christmas, Zelda the day after.

Everyone really sweating this needs to calm down, we all pretty much know it is server load causing this. Clearly it's not Nintendo planning server maintenance Christmas day, the day they expect a huge amount of consumers to be receiving and registering their devices. Just enjoy offline features or spend time with loved ones until it comes back up. I imagine by this evening or tomorrow it'll be ironed out. None of this just works like magic, we see reports of network servers for countless games and networks having these issues all the time. Just...chill.

Well sure--there's no point in raging, but it still sucks and it's nice to have threads like this to vent.

I was hoping I'd be able to download the new Zelda today that was just released on the Japanese eShop. They keep telling me it's congested, but it's 5 a.m. in Japan...
