It looks like the unfinished beta of TJ&E III has been leaked onto the net.

In the words of the poster, he didn't receive a response from Sega when he asked permission, but the creators of the game gave a general pass so long as no money changes hands over the release.

Q: Did you get SEGA's permission?

A: Nope, I didn't get any response. As this is a beta of a game for a console that's already dead for 10+ Years I think they woudn't care. And as long I don't make any money from it, I'm not conflicting their intrests(I hope).

I'm releasing this at my own risk.

Q: What about Greg Johnson?

A: There are pieces of the code that Greg and Mark don’t own(SDK's, Katana Library's, stuff that other people from Visual Concepts made), so even though they don’t object to me sharing this within the community of Dreamcast enthusiasts, they can’t really give permission

As for the Intellectual Property goes, Greg and Mark wont sue me for using the IP in this context.

However, there is ONE limitation and that is that it should never be sold or pressed to disc

This would go past the whole "community release" thing.

Again to make it perfecly clear : He did not give me permission for releasing this game,
he just turns his head the other way when it comes to the use of the Intellectual Property itself.

An unfinished version of a game already released on the XBOX but on an older console? I don't have much interest in this.

From what I understand this version doesn't share much of a resemblance to the game that was released on Xbox. This is more similar to TJ&E 1 on Genesis but in 3D.

I almost thought you said TJ&EII, but you said 1, now I am even less interested. Will wait for gameplay footage.

Absolutely loved TJ&E 1, but had no interest in 2. Didn't even bother checking out 3 for XBox.
If this is more similar to 1, definitely work checking out.

TJ&E3 was similar to TJ&E1, though.

This would have to be pretty much similar to the xbox version. i remember following the game when it was being made for Dreamcast and the features and screenshots ended up being pretty similar to the xbox game, just the xbox version got a few extra things.

The xbox game wasn't really that bad once you got into it. When I first got TJ&E3, me and a friend popped it in and played it for about 30 minutes before determining it really sucked and turned it off. Some months later I started playing it again, and after getting out of the first area it started to feel more like the first game and wasn't really that bad.

Just got the 360 version of 1 yesterday, still love it. Unfortunately I had to also pay for 2, which still sucks.

Interesting news but it's just an uglier incomplete version of the same game on the Xbox, so I don't really see the point. I did enjoy TJE3 on the Xbox, though.

Does the DC version run at 60 fps like the Xbox version?

Toe-Jam & Earl III was one of my favourite games for the original Xbox, but I never knew that it was once developed for the Dreamcast. I had played as Earl, while my friend played as the perverted TJ, and we played it non-stop.

I still play the soundtrack from that game from time-to-time, along with some Earthworm Jim.

I Much, much, much preferred TJ&E2 to the first one. Just found it more fun and full of character.

It was the opposite for me. I liked the random nature of the levels of the first game, there wasn't really much like it at the time. It felt like a different game every time you played it.

Yeah, the xbox TJ&E was pretty bad, but it wasn't a sidescroller like 2.

need video of this pls

Whaaat. TJ&E2 is awesome, just -- the shared multiplayer focus notwithstanding -- awesome in a completely different way from TJ&E1. There aren't random levels, but there is a huge amount of hidden surprises in their stead.
