In the middle of building a computer, so far I have a AMD 7870 2GB, before I buy a CPU, what is the best CPU that will make games run good on Dolphin. Also how good is Dolphin, is their a list of what games work near 100%.

IMO, any i5 CPU beyond Sandy Bridge would be enough to run at almost full speed.

Almost full speed is a total bummer though. The slight stutter I get consistently in Galaxy is a real damper.

Also, i5 2400k @ 3.4ghz is not able to run F-Zero reliably well.

Interesting, I'd like a reliable CPU as I am planning to not use a Wii once I install Dolphin, what is the cheapest CPU I can get that can run games without any problems

anyone watched the wii u gamepad hack demo at ccc?
they showed dolphin streaming from a pc to a wii u gamepad with gamepad controls working.
pretty amazing stuff :)

I don't get it.

I've got a 3.5ghz i7 processor now and 8GB of RAM...and dolphin runs worse than on my old phenom x4 at the same clock speed. Whaaat.

This sucks.

Oh my fucking god

Please tell me that this will work with steam. Dark Souls II on the gamepad....Fuck!!!

I have a gaming laptop, here are the specs:

CPU: i7 4960HQ (2.6ghz, 3.8ghz)
GPU: GeForce GT 750M 2GB
RAM: 16GB DDR 1600mhz
HDD: 512GB SSD

Should I be able to run all Wii games (at the lowest settings) at a solid 60fps?

Looking at that, probably no. Definitely not "All".

So while this thread is on the first page I'm reminded to ask (beg, really) for some help. I'm running Dolphin 3.5-269, Lenovo Y580, X360 wired pad.

I changed some gamepad settings in Dolphin to play a game with motion controls (assigning some motion functions to button presses). When I undid those changes and went back to my game of Xenoblade, no button presses are being recognised at all, the game just runs the start screen.

Dolphin itself is clearly recognising the button presses, and any new game I play isn't affected. It seems like something somewhere in Xenoblade has come unstuck. Since I'm no expert in emulation I can't get my head round where the problem could lie.

How could the ISO lose its understanding of controller inputs? Is it possible to start again with a fresh ISO, but retaining the save file?

Any suggestions appreciated, especially simple stuff an idiot could easily overlook. Thanks in advance, Dolphin-heads of GAF!

I would set up the controls again.

In the window, hit refresh.

On the left hand side of the Emulated Wii remote configuration window, go to the drop down and select the 360 controller. (people often forget this!)

set up all the controls (you should tick background input too!)

save it

is it good now?

Fuck! Yes! Xenoblade!

THANK YOU, man!

The game was (and still is) only listening to inputs from within the emulated Wiimote settings. Not only did I have to pick the controller in the left-hand drop-down, but also set the Extension as Classic, then manually enter the button presses.

And, I suppose the reason for that is that this is a Wii game, and doesn't give a fig for me faffing around trying to set up Gamecube controllers.

>_<

Well duh. A big THANKS again to you Alo81. I must have solved that problem myself ages ago when I first started playing Wii games on Dolphin, and then completely forgotten all about it.

My laptop specs are,

i7 3630QM 2.40 GHz
8 GB RAM
GeForce GT650M SLI

Can I get 'good' performance with this spec in Wii games like Skyward Sword or Xenoblade? I mean, how it will perform in these games?

Probably not very well but why not just try it?

So is it normal for Sylvia's cell phone dialog before a boss battle in the first No More Heroes to just not play? It doesn't play with HLE, or LLE, with speaker data disabled, speaker data enabled with the Wiimote volume muted, and the Wii Remote freaks out and constantly disconnects when speaker data is enabled. Can't think of anything else to try.

Also, is it normal for the audio in No More Heroes 2 to crackle on HLE?

Edit: figured out the phone call thing, had to turn off speaker in the in-game menu.

Just got the dolphin up and running. Playing Wind Waker (Never had a gamecube) as we speak wirelessly with my PS4 controller (All you have to do is pair controller over Bluetooth after holding the Share+PS Button = blinking white light) ! Took a little bit of fiddling and manual control mapping in Dolphin itself but it controls perfectly thus far! Can't wait to play some of the older titles I missed out on!

Hey guys, I seem to be having troubles creating an ISO from a Wii game. Anyone have any suggestions about what programs I should use? I cant seem to figure it out :(

Here are the specs of my new lappy:
NVIdia GTX 770M
Intel® Core™ i7 4700HQ Processor
DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM, up to 32 G (So uh 32 GB ram I guess?)

Would like to also see high res images of Killer7 on Dolphin with maxed out options if possible please?

As has been said numerous times in this thread, Dolphin performance depends on single core clock speed.

Hmm so Dolphin requires what 2.0 GHz at least?
EDIT: Ah no it needs 3 GHz, so I should use Turbo in this case.

That's minimum. You should really have at least 4, and even then in some cases some games don't run that well at all (The Last Story)

Damn, do the Gamecube games also need that high a clock speed or is it just Wii games?
Don't let these mean people scare you too much. With some overclock (or turbo ,whatever that's supposed to be) you should be perfectly capable to play a lot of games just fine.
Maybe occasionally you would need to turn on some "efficiency hack" instead of aiming systematically for better accuracy, but that's it.

This is coming for ma poor bastard (me) who played several games even with his miserable Dual Core E6550 at 2,3 ghz.

The good news is that I finally just ordered my new PC and I'm waiting for it in the next days.

Just chiming in to say I have a laptop with a i7 4700MQ and it can run Wii games like Smash Bros and Xenoblade perfectly fine at full speed. I haven't tried Super Mario Galaxy or Skyward Sword, but I think it's likely you could tweak the settings so they're playable.

The graphics settings are all down to the graphics card; with a 765M, I can play at 1080p without any problems.

I am having issues with both Mario Galaxy games. Basically the music does not play in default settings. However the reccomened settings was to change DSP Sound Emulator Engine from HLE to LLE. I have done this which fixed the issue and I now get music, but the music isn't clear.

Is there any way to make the Wii version of Muramasa look a bit closer to the Vita version in terms of image quality?

IIRC playing at 1080 is not that demanding; what's demanding is turning the IR up. That is, if you set it at 3x and your computer can't handle it, playing it at 640x480 is going to make no difference.

Are you using the provided dsp rom? Have you tried dumping it from your Wii?

I am using the provided one, I haven't tried dumping from my Wii because in don't know how to do it.

I seem to have fixed the issue by using Audio Backend as OpenAL. However I have noticed the framerate is not 70-90% where as before I had 100%, I thought I have a decent rig for Dolphin (4670k OC @ 4.4GHz and 7870 2GB).

The audio in the Galaxy games is really demanding.

You can sort of rectify this issue in LLE mode when using OpenAL as the backend.

Do you see the audio latency option at the bottom? Increase the number, not hugely but by about 3 or 4. Well, I guess you can just keep going until you hear the music start to distort and crackle.

What this does is delay the sound by that many milliseconds, which gives your CPU a bit more time to process the audio. This usually leads to a more stable framerate at the expense of VERY slightly delayed audio. You wouldn't use the setting in Rhythm Heaven, but it's totally acceptable in the Galaxy games and cuts down on a lot of the audio stuttering.

Give it a shot and let me know how it goes.

I get about 75% to 85% mainly. It's strage everyone kept going on about how Mario Galaxy with Dolphin works great, so I go and get a 4670k i5 which is overclocked to 4.4GHz, then now I find out Mario Galaxy works fullspeed with no music or 80% 75%-85% with music. I wish people were more clear, oh well hopefully other Wii games work good.
