A favorite track of mine for sure. Something about it is just so fun to listen to.

You are seriously talented. I wish I had your tools at my disposal, I could make some sick shit with that.

MusicHaloGAF unite.

MusicHaloGAF is oddly broad. We have you, jellycrackers, menachite (who mostly lurks), and then sai and I.

We should all make a compilation HaloGAF album.

So I just uploaded a new Halo-inspired original Orchestral piece to my youtube channel. You guys should check it out right here.

Then if you like it, download it for free here on my bandcamp page under the "extras" album. I just added all my extra tracks that didn't make it onto the other albums.

I liked it! Definitely well put together. It was a little confusing to listen to though. The vibes and emotions I was getting changed often in just that 2.5 min. I couldn't quite settle into it.

Also, song had some H4 Nemesis vibes in there for a bit which I really enjoyed. Nemesis is one of my favorites on the H4 Soundtrack.

I just got the strongest urge to go play reach BTB again.

Didact was terrible waste.

The fiction surrounding him became so convoluted, it was a joke. The original Didact fiction was a nice standalone piece that should have been left alone.

Anyone unfortunate enough not to be familiar the fiction was served an undercooked antagonist. Finally, here's a Forerunner, but he's evil, he's gone mad for some reason! He used to be good, but now he's bad! And he wants to turn all the remaining humans into robots to fight the Flood, even though you've defeated the Flood. He's just that gosh darn evil and bent for revenge.

And with the fiction? Here's twelve Halo rings, super-sized Haloes, two Arks, three Didacts, Ancient Forerunners, Ancient-er Fore-forerunners and let's being back Guilty Spark, who is now an ex-human.
Obviously I feel similarly about the Didact.

And yes, the current state of the fiction / re-molding of the history / Forerunners speaks for itself, but I won't deny there are some cool concepts there either. A character with two husbands, shaped versions of the same man? [Arguably there was a lot more they could have done here, but I'm probably looking in the place for that kind of drama] It's not all awful.
It is rather convoluted and "busy".

It is funny to think about how much they tripled-downed on blowing out the Forerunner history, as well as on the other side moulding a new fiction with a new generation of Spartans, Covenant sects and ONI personnel changes.

I don't know how much more I want to say, I think it really might too easy to backseat this kind of franchise direction though, I don't want to stamp on people's toes. It's a hard balance for me, being enthusiastic about the series and critical of what I don't like as well and yet not being a complete ass about it.

By franchise direction I refer to whether the franchise would get the occasional one off book based around the core 20 year war period or blow out the Universe out into a much more detailed end to end one.

Back in 06/07, the series was already deep in transmedia land, to keep blowing it out further is kind of a natural step for a product.

All of this spun out from agreeing with Dani, but not feeling comfortable just saying "yes, I agree".

I thought Reverb did the occasional piece or two. I'd actually be up for that. Prepare the Fart Synths!

Shit, I forgot. I always mix him and jellycrackers up because of the cat avatars, lol. iirc Reverb mostly drums for his band, I didn't remember if he had done any formal halo-related pieces.

@ jellycrackers, I'm more harmonic than melodic personally but I think part of the jankiness with regards to pacing has a little bit to do with the melodies. Your level of detail, texturing, mastering, etc. is phenomenal, but a lot of your melodies that aren't pure arpeggios (something like Floor It has a lot of really good arpeggios) can be a little disorienting sometimes. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but the main, To Galaxy-esque string melody in Legend, for example, takes some unconventional twists and turns that make it a little difficult to "predict" for the sake of easy listening, if that makes sense. I don't really have any room to talk considering all of my released music is either pure shit or remixes in the first place, but I just wanted to be honest with some constructive criticism. Otherwise, your style's great - you really nail that Davidge-esque level of orchestral, video-gamey texture.

It is a shame the same file share system wasnt used in 4. but as for your clip I didn't realise that you could survive that far a fall and hijack a falcon nice work :D. At least reach BTB is better than 4 BTB but that's not exactly difficult to achieve.

They're both the same in that I can't use half of it.

FUBAR McDangles is apparently against Halo TOS so I cannot upload anything. 343 plz halp

I don't think there's anything inherently wrong either. I was just trying to detail what it was like for me to listen to it. But music is highly subjective anyway so it's always going to be difficult to give feedback on it. And on the other side it's his art. So if it makes him happy to create and listen to it then that's great. If other people like it too, even better!

Agree about that last sentence too.

Dude, why are you so angry all the time? Listen to the Beach Boys or something and calm down, life's too short to be so full of umad.

I love the Beach Boys! Don't Worry Baby is my favorite from them.

Speaking of Bungie.net videos, here's one of my favorites we got. A rocket bounces off of multiple invisible walls, does a full circle around the spire, and betrays a friend lol.

Classic example of awful BTB maps maybe.
They're not the greatest of maps, but they're fun as hell to play on and super chaotic. They at least evoke, some form of the fun I sorta had in Halo 3 BTB (which was still laggy as hell)
I just got the strongest urge to go play reach BTB again.
DO IT!
lol

At first I thought you were making fun of me for dying and the report popping up on the left side but then I saw the end. Very nice.

Yeah, at first I was like "I got dis" then he turned around and I was like oh fuck.

Reach BTB has some merit, but it was much better before the inclusion of heavies.

343i followed the Covenant's lead in glassing Reach on their way out.

I'm actually surprised I'm not the only one who likes Boneyard. I always had fun playing it. Maybe it was too big for 8v8 though.

Boneyard was dumb as shit but a lot of fun. Going on the roof and sniping people or Banshee bombing fools was just glorious. It's a pretty bad map, but it's bad in all the right ways.

My favorite memory on Boneyard was driving around a Warthog with a guy in the back. He dies, I go to a spot and am sitting there honking the horn waiting for a new guy to jump in the back, and two enemies get in the car. Guy in passenger seat is trying to beat me down and failing, and guy in turret is trying to shoot the front of the car and failing.

I drove off the side of the cliff and jumped out at the last moment. Got 'em both.

It's a weird map. I always had more fun (and usually success) trolling people from the rafters than doing anything resembling reasonable Halo gameplay.

I don't think it's amazing, but I don't hate it either (aside from Invasion, where it's terrible despite being designed for it). It's got lots of good bad going on.

I just loved going in alone and popping easy snipes off.
I'm still angry that they never did anything about the Revenant side seat assist. It was pretty funny, but extremely annoying on the receiving end. Definitely not a good mechanic. But what can you expect, when shit like Armour Lock makes it to the final game.

Hey man, that guy has led me to huge financial success. I'm now making many thousands of dollars and you can too for a nominal fee. PM for details.

Hey there, fellow youtubeite, I'm a fellow "video gamer" searching to widen my audience and grow into a fully-fledged community of my own. I do let's plays and they're extremely funny! Don't let the fact that I'm an overweight, pizza-faced scrub in a fedora who does nothing but crack sexist jokes and express my disdain to people who don' t support furries distract you - I'm a real wholesome guy and can appeal to a variety of markets, even the urban ones, dawg, which can't be said about most channels you find these days.

EDIT fuck, why is this top of the page

Judging by the last page or two, the only thing that's a bigger joke than Halo canon is the people making videos about Halo.

Best game mechanic EVAR. So fun dominating in a revenant. They should have added it to snipers and put it in the middle of the map. New meta.

I know all of this because when I was with Beyond, you did this on a near daily basis. You would link videos from ForgeWorldMaps, u4ix, THC, etc. into a group chat encouraging everyone to dislike them. You did the same with r/Halo posts to keep others down and Beyond posts high up on the page. You also obsessively posted Greenskull's videos to r/Cringe on alternate Reddit accounts. I read through some of those old chat logs recently and it was somehow a lot worse than I remember.

uhh

Anyways, the videos you put out aren't bad. What I said yesterday was directly about the leak video, and I hope you don't make anything else like it. It cheapens the other GOOD content you put out...at least imo.

I'd be fine with them putting it in snipers. When everyone spawns with a weapon that can effortlessly wreck the aforementioned Revenant from anywhere on the map, it wouldn't be terribly cheap.

I will be starting the lobby at 3:30/ 25 minutes, just a heads up! I'll be playing just normal Reach BTB for a couple hours.

Thanks! The tools are helpful, but you'd be surprised at what you can do if you learn a few cheap and free tools really really intensively.

I wish I could, one day, play a game where you would have made the entire soundtrack. Damn, you're talented !

My life goal is to one day have a game soundtrack with my name on it. Specifically, a Halo game. Thanks!

Great work. That screen you used for the video highlights how awesome Halo trailers are.

Halo trailers have been responsible for the beginnings of many of my music pieces. I absolutely nerd out about that stuff.

I understand what you both mean. Some times I get tired of writing just big themes that repeat themselves with extra layers and stuff like that and I write something that moves around more musically. This was one of those pieces where I was more interested in flexing my musical knowledge muscles and creating diversity with smooth, musical transitions within one cue. I appreciate the criticism though! I did try to unite it all with that four note motif that comes up at 0:15, 0:56, and 2:06 so it wasn't TOTALLY all over the map :)

Also, I don't use melodies that are pure arpeggios. If every note fits into the background chord, then there's no sense of tension and resolution within the melody. That's just my opinion though!

I definitely shouldn't have survived that fall. That was a total fluke that worked in my favor and made me look like freakin' James Bond.

Unrelated to every discussion going on in this thread: So I'm in the process of trying to adopt this awesome Bengal cat I found at an animal rescue place. If I get her, I'm naming her Chief.

My roommate has a rat named Cortana.

Hopefully Chief doesn't eat Cortana.

Indeed.
People who are thirsty for clicks and likes in videos and streams are REALLY thirsty for them in real life, who would have guessed.

Nothing against aPK he does good stuff most of the time. And he is absolutely not at fault for anything than putting that dumb leak video out.

I mean Saucey once wasted a full video talking about how twitch chats are full of trolls. I mean that is REALLY dumb.
Putting out dat content I guess.
