Alien: Isolation details surface on Xbox Games Store

The developer doesn't have any experience in FPS, mostly RTS.

So this will turn out bad (it can't any worse than Colonial Marines) or it might just be a good thing.

After all, Creative Assembly has a good track record. An RTS Alien game would have been cool though.

So we see Amanda's pic in Aliens which means either

A: She survives and Company covers her experience with the alien up
or
B: She dies and Company covers nature of her death of

i hold no hope for this game.

i love the first two Alien films as much as any fan of science fiction, but really, the obsession with wanting to take what Cameron did with Aliens and emulate it in videogame form needs to stop. it wasnt about monsters that go bump in the night or shooting waves of bad guys with all sorts of high tech weaponry, it was a character piece about the relationship a mother has with her daughter and the family that grew between Ripley, Newt, and Hicks amid a hellish situation.

why is all i have left to say. why make this game? i mean maybe im just jaded about the whole thing after seeing how colonial marines was handled, but honestly.. no hope.

Sega got just as screwed over by that as we did, this one won't be the same.

Yeah, but unveiling a new game so soon after CM isn't exactly a very good strategy. The negative impact of it is still fresh.

Still, I'm interested for the survival-horror element but I'll have to wait and see on this one.

Having been metaphorically "burned" by Colonial Marines immediately kills any possible hype, but Goddamn if Stunt Car Racer isn't the greatest game ever made.

why make this game?

Because Alien and Aliens have inspired a stupid number of videogames without ever reaching truly great heights in this medium themselves. Both Alien and Aliens had a select few game-ish shots (and admittedly also Alien 3's fpv shots). This series was meant to be put into videogame form; just needs to be done right.

IF I have ammo to spare on human enemies why not just shoot the alien in the head?

Some conveniently "hulk" armored alien?

Alien looks to have normal exoskeleton in the pic. Could be you just never manage to get it at the right time. I presume in the game you're not gonna be in a flat open stadium lit by floodlights. Also might be a special type of alien that can regenerate.

that Aliens in particular has inspired a large number of videogames over the years is plainly obvious, but truth be told i think thats just Syd Mead's excellent art design talking. i mean it certainly wasnt Dan O'Bannon's screen play that was the driving force of the franchise's influence on games - nor was it Cameron's (outside of a few lines of dialogue Hudson may have spoken, lol). its only ever been the most superficial parts of both movies that games have picked up on - sometimes 'copied' almost exactly in the case of something like the original Halo.

so no, i dont want that game, no matter how iconic or influential the films' designs have been, or how eagerly some studio might want to answer such a ludicrous question like what happened to Ripley's daughter (who cares). i dont think the Alien franchise needs to legitimize itself in this medium of videogames. it already stands tall on its own in the world of film. and i aint even trying to sound snobbish, bro.

but like i said, it could turn out good. i have no idea.

Ripley's daughter thing doesn't bother me as much. Play a lot of MGS. Used to every character having to be related to every character.

Parker will be revealed to be the DARPA chief.

It's cross-gen to all five to my knowledge, but if it's GI's cover then the current-gen versions were canned.
Weird since they'll probably make more money on 360/PS3 because there so many out there but now it looks like Evolve (Turtle Rock's next game) is going to be on the cover.

Some of the more grim levels on Killzone SF make me think Guerilla could pull off one hell of a slow and horrifying Sci fi shooter all alone on a space station. Hopefully this turns out good, the screens look pretty atmospheric

Last Alien game I played was Alien 3 on Mega Drive... Sooo Good!

Hope we can at last see a true survival horror game. Since silent hill 3 there has been nothing for me personally (although i hope Im wrong and just missed out some gems on ps3)

Is this next-gen only? Hopefully this is the game I have been waiting for, I would love to play it on next-gen hardware at 1080p. Looking forward to the PS4 release, but I wonder if the Wii U will get shafted again like with Colonial Marines.

I hope not, I really really want my gamepad motion scanner

Don't buy a word of it. I'll wait for the real impressions via word of mouth.

Name dropping Survival horror and having shoot-bang marine sections just doesn't gel with me.

Love the screens.

But reading the rumors about it being a shooter in which you mostly shoot humans (clones or whatever) completely killed any ounce of hype for me.

I still hope this isn't a shooter. Unfortunately info bits like "1-4 player coop" do not sound particularly encouraging.

Im scared of the 'population' aspect. Cue lots of cannon fodder enemies and once in a while the "Alien" encounter.

I want to like this so much, but I'm remaining cautious.

Thank you for posting fellow GAFfer. As someone who recently finished Aliens VS Predator (which I actually liked it) and Aliens: Colonial Marines last month on PC I really want a good Survivor Horror in the Alien Universe. Here's hoping for the best!

The rumors say they're only one alien in the game. Which makes it even scarier.

My guess is that it will play like a survival horror Butcher Bay.

I'm okay with one Alien. A survival-horror game is what many fans of the franchise wanted for a long time.

I'm not okay with lots of cannon fodder enemies. It's bad enough when you shoot hundreds of weak Aliens. That's just not scary. It's a disservice to the iconic creature from the movies. But what's even worse is shooting lots of human enemies in an Alien game. Be it "evil corporation" space-marines or clones. That just doesn't fit the license at all.

Too bad that developers of AAA games can't find more interesting things to put into their games than hordes of cannon fodder enemies. :-/

I'm pretty sure the developers could come up with lots of great ideas. I just don't think market research would back up such ideas. Like it or not, there needs to be stuff to kill if you're making a 50+ million dollar mainstream game based on a movie IP.

Expecting any third party support for WiiU at this point is crazy talk.

I would be kinda disappointed if this is the GI reveal. I am more interested in Evolved. Not that I would not want a good alien game, but it turning out well is just so unlikely...

Sounds good and looks good. I hope it is though. This and The Evil Within potentially this year makes me happy.

Whats wrong with shooting soldiers and androids? You can still create an oppressive survival based game with that. Too many aliens removes their sense of dread and mystery.

I don't feel suspense, dread, mystery, fear of the unknown, or anything like that while I'm playing a shoot-shoot-bang killing soldiers like any other shooter, that is what's wrong.

I want an Alien game that feels like the first movie. I want to wonder what is going wrong. I want to discuss with the shipmates what we should do. I want to have choices that affect the outcomes, like exploring the alien ship, running away, sacrificing or not a sick friend that maybe it's contaminated...

But that would be an horror adventure / RPG with choices & consequences, not an action game.

Let's wait and see what it's all about first. Hard to tell the details from where we stand now.

Certainly looks pretty :)

the gearbox game looked good in shots too before it came out. I want this to be good, but it's hard to believe after the last turd.

Sega got just as screwed over by that as we did, this one won't be the same.

that's a cop out excuse though. Sega still put it on shelves with their name on it and took people's money. They're just as much to blame as gearbox was.

Why? How is this game in any way related to colonial marines?
Why would you condemn a game before we have seen anything about the gameplay? Just don't preorder it as soon as they throw a 5% discount or a different hud color at you and you will be fine
