Because 2011 was when NPD stopped showing individual sales.
Such a stupid move.
Since NPD doesnt give out numbers anymore, i think this was for the better. Otherwise we might have seen like maybe 2-4 entries of the same game. We can already see which version that sells the best (the platform for multiplatform games is sorted after most selling from left to right).

Sony needs to divert supply to the US before demand wanes. Strike that iron while it's hot.
I can say for fact that I have personally sold close to ten xb1's simply because we had no stock of ps4's. The customer would ask if we had a ps4, I'd say "No. But we do have an xbox one."
They'd hum and haw a bit, then buy it with either COD or BF4. The thirst for next gen has been very high.

That is a significant gap isn't it?

Within context it makes sense

MS had three relatively big titles for launch with DR3, Forza and Ryse

Sony had KZ and Knack

If we count digital stuff then there games like Loco Cycle and KI on the side of MS vs Resogun

So basically XBone first and second party numbers were gonna be larger anyways

Updated with a few things pointed out in the thread (Wii Fit is now light green, note about 2009 SKUs being separate)

So as we have worldwide software numbers for PS4 (9.7 million in the same press release where they announced 4.2 million sold consoles) now we even know the split. 4.2 million in US and 5.5 million elsewhere.

Well, I guess there's that. But via deduction, one could say he's also revealing that third parties have sold more on PS4. So he wins some, he loses some.

I'm not talking about who wins or loses here, heck we got info that we probably will never get from Sony, What the guy did was a dick move.

Haha, Greenberg, you card. You just posted that third party games sell more on PS4.

This doesn't come as a surprise considering the 1st party offerings. People bought a shiny new machine they have to play something. If they don't want to play Killzone they would have to buy AC4 or BF4 or NBA or whatever they are buying.

There are more multiplatform games besides BF4 and COD, you know that right?

Worth paying attention to? I guess there's Assassin's Creed, Madden, and 2K14.

The interesting thing is that it basically equals 2.5 games per Xbox One and 2 for the PS4 (assuming figures of 2.1 million in the USA for PS4). So really, it's only every second gamer getting an extra game. I also consider myself to be a pretty average Joe Gamer, and I've got five Xbox One titles (Ghosts, AC4, Forza, Madden, Ryse), and you'll obviously have a lot of people in the same boat for both systems, so there's a lot of consoles with only one game. I wonder what they picked.

"Selling more" doesnt tell much tough, unfortunately. Technically, the Xbox One could have sold one more copy compared to the PS4 version, and it would still have been "selling more".

Yeah, but I think the thing was given the sales people were expecting the PS4 ratio to crush the Xbox One and make EA and Activision reconsider those deals. I doubt that's the case, now.

so wait. if you add to of Greenberg statements than the main reason 4.8 vs 4.2 lead was due to first party? And if you take first/2nd party out, ps4 sold more 3rd party software.

Am I reading this right?
Yes lol, he just inadvertently revealed that info. Probably scramble to tweet that out and forgot what was hidden behind his little troll pr. Lol...

Nothing I said is contradicted by your statements. Calm down, I don't have a dog in the race.
You mentioned XB1 price and said its likely to maintain its US advantage due to it winning in December. Yet you completely failed to mention PS4s supply issues at all.

I'm perfectly calm here. Maybe you're reading my comments wrong or something. Do you see exclamation points or all caps? Maybe go read some of my previous comments in this thread. I do have a dog in this race but I look at this from every angle.

When do Nintendo usually release their PR for NPD ? You would think they have been fast with 3DS selling a million units and WiiU having it's best month ever up against PS4 and Xbone !

Why wouldn't they? Less first party games to buy. I bet NFS and Assassin's Creed were huge sellers on PS4.

His very next sentence is there to get you to believe the opposite is true. I think, regardless of why, he's hoping you're not so interested in the how.

Of course. Xbox One has better exclusives. The internal competition is bigger.

I don't really see this mattering much. People buy games they want to buy. If you want Assassin's Creed, the fact that Ryse scored slightly better than Knack isn't going to change your preference.

C'mon, this is totally unprofessional from him.

Also because NPD doesn't give the complete picture. I'd imagine digital sales are better on PS4, since sony pushes them harder, ps+ discounts with digital games, and amazon opening their online playstation store. For instance, I got Ghosts and AC4 for cheap on amazon during their black friday deals digitally.

So it's unprofessional in that sense.

Happy to see 3DS as #1 for the year.
Also, with Wii U selling around 500k in the US for December, and 300~k in Japan for December, does that mean the PS4 hasn't overtaken the Wii U yet? I wonder how far apart they are.

Interesting that BF4/COD sold more on Xbone. Wish we knew how close. Xbox software total being higher isn't a surprise though given the quality of the two big PS4 exclusives.

Nintendo had 7 games chart in the first two years, then absolutely none since then.
And yes, that is one depressing chart.

I guess it is a bit depressing, but for Nintendo to not be there is noone's fault but Nintendo's.

In the end, who cares who has the biggest selling games? The Indy scene was amazing the last few years and there were lots and lots of great games for all of us to play....except from Nintendo on Wii and Wii U :)

I said it all along, the Xbone's success is predicated on previous XBOX owners, Call of Duty, Madden, and their XBL friends.

I know a lot of people who don't want to hear it with the PS4 and solely bought a XBone because of those very reasons. It's all about familiarity.

Graphics be damned. Don't matter really.

He specifically mentioned COD and Battlefield but not Madden. Could the Official Next Gen Console of the NFL(tm) have sold less copies of Madden than the PS4? Shocking if true. Madden is a stronghold for the xbox brand.

Some good #NPD SW facts: #XboxOne YTD 2013: 4.8M retail games vs. 4.2M for PS4. COD & BF4 both sold better on #XboxOne.

Last #NPD fact: 1st/2nd party (exclusives) SW sales for #XboxOne 1.5M units vs. 599K for PS4. Led by Dead Rising, Forza 5 and Ryse.

1st/2nd party = 1.5 million XBO
1st/2nd party = 599K PS4

3rd party = 3.3 million XBO
3rd party = 3.6 million PS4

"Some good NPD facts."

Wait, if Greenberg can release Sony numbers does that mean anyone can release NPD numbers?

I thought the reason we don't get NPD numbers is because they aren't allowed to?

I'm surprised at the game sales being higher on XB1 considering the console is $100 more.
