Exclusive Invitation for an Xbox One Alpha Trial [Titanfall]

I haven't watched a ton of vids but reading through the thread sounds like you goal should be to get a Titan? How is it playing without getting a Titan, say a whole match? Does that seem to be your main goal thoughout the match? If so my intrest just went to 0. Plus I hate the sound of the AI fodder.

Welp.

I've been hearing about this game for months, but haven't paid much attention.

Just saw a bunch of videos.

I'm buying an Xbone.

Man, the mods are doing good work. All the silly people who quoted the whole thing, and the mods having to fix every single post. I'm surprised this thread is still going, but it makes for good schadenfreude.

Have any of the Respawn devs worked on previous mech games?

You guys are talking about a beta like it's a sure thing now...did I miss something?

At this point I would pretty much say it's a sure thing. Respawn people have repeatedly said "we'll see" in regards to a beta, and no developer would say that this close to launch unless it was happening.

Cheers for the feedback Azula...Much appreciated.

Did any moments feel lonely and slow due too the player count? Like looking for other players etc because of the scale and scope.

I just hope the gameplay has depth as it could suffer the COD factor of longevity and getting bored after a few weeks.

All in all an expansion of COD's gameplay sounds promising and having a longer 1v1 fight in Titan's sounds fun bigtime.

Hmm, well, I didn't sign an NDA. I don't see why I would be unable to post footage I come across. Not according to the Terms of Service, anyway. Even copyrighted material doesn't seem to cover the posting of footage from a private build of a game.

But I get it. EA puts pressure on so that things they don't want to get posted don't get posted. Perhaps an update to the Terms of Service is required if it becomes a bannable offence, so that the type of footage is definable. The Elder Scrolls Online and The Witcher 3 is fair game?

In lighter news Titanfall looks just like Call of Duty with mechs. With the HUD updates it seems like they are trying to push that idea. Should be cool though.

I'm guessing because the Respawn devs are GAFers and view these threads a lot, so might have contacted mods to avoid this kind of stuff.

And also, first post:

PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING:

Due to this being an ALPHA TEST, NDA's were signed by participants. DO NOT POST VIDEO'S leaked of the Alpha test in this thread. YOU WILL BE BANNED.

The one thing I noticed when watching the videos is that I would have seriously liked some sort of mini glide feature. There are a number of times where the player misses a jump and falls all the way down. A glide feature would let the player maneuver about a bit more and could also make some for some fun gun fights.

That was edited in. I'm not sure if the warning was there when the banning started.

And I am not a participant, and therefore I'm not subject to the NDA.

It seems like a strange courtesy to extend to some developers and not others. I don't remember the links for leaked footage in threads for 'The Witcher 3' or 'The Elder Scrolls Online' being edited out by mods. And I'm sure those people were under NDAs. Heck, even GIFs were made in some of those cases.

If it is a bannable offense, I think updates to the Terms of Service might be helpful.

I saw someone get cornered in a room with 8 enemy ai and they just basically stood there to get slaughtered. Pretty much confirms the fodder aspect.

Yeah, pretty lame move. Sucks because all the vids I've seen looked great.

They better have a massive blowout once this Alpha/Beta/Whatever finishes. I can understand holding it hostage via NDA's but drop some lifelines for the fans already!

Or I dunno ... That it's an alpha?
That does seem to be the intention, though. They are there to spruce up the amount of action and doubly serve as a strategic element in speeding up your ability to get a Titan.

I know the obvious response is "Well why don't they just have more human players if they need to boost the action?" and the answer is likely that since every pilot gets access to a Titan, you wouldn't want two dozen Titans roaming around on the map.

I'm not gonna judge it til I try it. It seems the only people acting sceptical about this aspect are those who haven't played it though, which bodes well.

Saw the same video. AI is fucking abysmal. Jesus christ why did they pad out the game with so much fucking cannon fodder? So kids would think they are "pro"?

What do you mean?

I'm guessing he's going in with the assumption that TitanFall sucks in some way or the other and the censorship is all just a big campaign in order to hide it.

Which is dumb, if that's the case.

Well leaked images do look really bad...

Breaking an NDA on NeoGAF for these betas has been bannable for as long as I know. I mean that's just common sense considering the legal BS and takedown notices that the moderators have to deal with.

Also in regards the screenshots I read on Twitter that the texture resolution of the game has been lowered to 25% of the original for the alpha. That's ONE of the reasons the download size is kept under insane amounts.

Leaked images look bad? What the hell have I been playing all this time then. The game looks really good, hardly any jaggies, smooth as hell gameplay, and the ai actually get shit down, depending on the objectives on the map. As for the player count, your running into players to shoot all the time no matter if human, or AI. As for the resolution people, it don't look like 720p to me, and If it is, they are using a lot of AA and post processsing on the image.

Damn...a 10/10 alpha.

Azula said (OP) there's jaggies, and it's not that good visually especially with smaller compressed textures.

Azula is playing on a 55 inch 1080 plasma, so I imagine he'd be more critical than people playing on smaller sets. At 720p I'm sure there are a ton of jaggies especially on larger sets.

people who discuss gameplay balance in alphas like it's a final build are the worst. the test spot is actually wasted on you (which sucks for an honest alpha...i don't care so much if it's a marketing department "beta" test)

I keep seeing people say no to this type of statement but I think your dead on. I know a lot of people's impressions from E3 were high and they weren't FPS players. Saying things like " I didn't die all the time like I usually do". Its about accessability! They are wanting COD money, making another "hardcore" franchise like BF already is, wouldn't be smart from a business side they are going to want them to compliment each other, not compete. I think from the design aspect they had to find a way to add fodder but make it fit within the confines of what they wanted the game to be.
