Aren't the Wii and the DS still the only systems to ever top 3 mil in a month, let alone get near 4 like the Wii did?

Why the hell did N64 sales suddenly explode like that?

It sold really well the first year. I think someone linked articles from back then about how some thought it would crush the PS1. I also think it also had much more appeal among children than the GameCube. The Wii did manage nearly 4 million one December.

Edit: I think it looks so strange because the WiiU and GameCube were drowned by much more popular gifts (PS2/Tablets) and the Wii had no supply.

I'm hoping, but it's really seeming unlikely. So far the casual market has not bit on any of the released platforms. The closest would be PS4/One, but I do think they'd both garnered enough good will with dedicated console purchasers to ensure some huge launches. Even WiiU launched well. Not anywhere close to these two mind you, but in historical context about normal to other market leading consoles.

I hope beyond hope that my DOOM SCENARIO!!! isn't playing out. I love having a dedicated controller as the basis for game design. But I'm getting worried that casual gamers are finding what they need on their phones and tablets, and know it's just a matter of time before a good GTAalike releases that siphons off more of the less dedicated console owners. We're already looking at hundreds of millions being spirited away just by the failures of WiiU and Vita, and the under performance of the 3DS.

Maybe they're waiting?

US Q4 (Oct-Dec) sales to consumers:

Code:
System	2012Q4	2013Q4	Dif	change
360	2920	1456	-1464	-50%
PS3	1555	843	-712	-46%
WiU	885	754	-131	-15%
3DS	2035	2322	287	14%
PSV	480	190	-290	-60%

Both 360 and PS3 are going to die much faster than I thought.

Both X360 and PS3 require price cut year ago.
$200 price point is nearly saturated

The high software attach ratios for the PS4 and XBone are a good sign that the systems are being purchased to play, not to scalp them. The next couple of months should be healthy for both of them before the first heavy hitters will start arriving.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

Xbox One's tie ratio is higher than what I thought (2.9 in US, including digital - both retail and digital only - , right?), and it increased compared to the first month. Still, I fear it'll suffer in the next months due to the price. At least, there's a good chance Titanfall will help sales in March: the alpha seems to have increased the hype for the game.

PS4? Right now, it seems it's going on and on in selling what's shipped, even if with a lower tie ratio at retail: it sold more third party games than One, but much lower first party, and that could slow sales in the meanwhile. Still, if this demand continue, it'll sustain itself at least decently (probably much more than that) till March, when Infamous come

Is that the most consoles Microsoft have ever sold in a month?

No. 1.5 million this year is barely above the 1.4 million of last year.

All December:

2010: 1.86m
2011: 1.73m
2013: 1.55m
2008: 1.44m
2012: 1.40m

No sure if posted:

Skylanders Swap Force: 597,000
Disney Infinity: 551,000

December only.

Also, this OP is dire. Where are the sales Greenberg posted? Is Nirolak on vacation? =P

Zelda : OOT probably

Once Zelda OOT hit along with Metroid 64 and Super Smash and all that ( Goldeneye ), the N64 was popular. But still sales wise was destroyed.

Which dimension did you just jump out of? I think we'd like to join to you ;)
...Tell us more about this Metroid 64...

I have no problem with this. If the market shrinks, manufacturers and developers merely readjust for it. Right now the market it bloated, it was especially bloated pre-2010, and could use a trimming.

You act like iPad is sucking away the core/hardcore gamers and that there haven't been any new core/hardcore gamers since the PS2. You're also acting like none of those iPad players will get bored and want to play more sophisticated games on consoles.

It's not that insular.

You are inferring an awful lot about how I "am acting" from me pointing out that the iPad has had an impact on console sales. I didn't say any of those things, you did.

Ask MS, Sony, and Nintendo shareholders if their markets were bloated an needed a trimming? I am guessing they will disagree with you. iOS (and Android to a much lesser extent) gaming is sucking up a lot of the revenue from casual gamers (and more importantly, their gaming time). You can say that casual gamers don't matter, but to a console manufacturer a casual gamer and a hardcore gamer's revenue counts the same.

Contrary to what a lot of people seem to think on GAF, "Hardcore gamers" is a tiny market compared to the rest of the population. The gamecube was an amazing hardcore gamer system, and the wii was an amazing casual gamer system. Ask Iwata which one he would rather have for his business.

creamsugar, Aqua, John, anyone: I'd love to know

1)Lego Marvel Super Heroes sales for the different SKUs (next gen excluded)
2)Angry Birds across all SKUs

Thanks :D

P.S. Seeing Rune Factory 4 selling basically the same as Wonderful 101 is something shocking. And not because RF4 did bad. It's probably a great result for the franchise in US.

Kind of disappointing for PS3 to be honest, but I think we'll see what happens. But then prior Playstations persisted through sheer overwhelming market share, and that really isn't there this time and I'm inclined to think Microsoft will drop 360 like a hot potato, and most of prolonged Playstation activity's come from Japan anyway, I think they still made PS1 games fairly late and they definitely did for PS2/PSP.

I think Wii U has a chance of outselling PS3 and Xbox 360 this year (Year of Wii U)

My step mom bless her heart drove to another state to get me GoldenEye for Christmas as it was sold out everywhere around us. That along with StarFox made it my favorite Christmas of all time as far as video games are concerned.

Take a wild guess.

I'd also like the Lego numbers if possible. Like I posted before, it sold at least 100k on 360, PS3, 3DS, XBO, and PS4 based on what we know.

Gamasutra.
That's what was said about BLOPS 2 on the Wii U but it still got Ghosts.
I'm pretty sure about this. However I have no problem admitting I was wrong if next November proves me wrong. :) You know me well enough I hope from the boardwalk empire thread to know that, right?

Oh, of course. That wasn't a slight against you or your predictions. Anyhow, as soon as someone says 'you don't wanna know' about a title's sales that's when we want to know even more. I assume it's still in the 5 figures realm.
