Yet more Majora's Mask teasing. (Interview in Game Informer.)

Some people quoted to me a segment of Hiromasa Shikata's interview in Game Informer (the same interview where it's said 60FPS won't necessarily be standard for Zelda in the future.) Be warned, a minor A Link Between Worlds spoiler is present.

GI: "We found Majora's Mask and another subtle reference to Link's Nintendo 64 adventure in
Ravio's Journal
. Are there any other Majora's Mask references that we missed?"

Shikata: "[Having Majora's Mask in Link's house] was a special request from Aonuma's production team. Now why would they ask us to do that?"

Just announce the damn remake already!

Because they're a bunch of a sadistic bastards? :D

Nah, seriously, we know it's coming, probably one of the games for Christmas. Maybe Summer like OoT3D, who knows? Hopefully we get a teaser during the next ND.

Am I the only one who thinks that the teasing is really, really weird for what many expect to be a 3DS update of the game? It seems really uncharacteristic for Nintendo to be hyping up something so simple with so many references.

It's enough to make me think that they might be doing a new Zelda title altogether that's linked to Majora's Mask somehow. Hrmm.

Either that or they truly are just "references"... I mean, if there was a remake of the original Zelda for every time a new Zelda game had a line in it containing "It's a secret to everybody...", I'd have a loooot of remakes.

If this is not shown around E3 time many people will be disappointed.

Day one for me, especially as I have not completed it on N64/ Gamecube or Virtual Console!

I doubt over-hyping a remake is a good idea. So, yeah:

Just announce the damn remake already!

I'm starting to fear that their "one more thing" at E3 can be MM 3D, which ultimately will be a disappointment.

I still kinda think that in the same way A Link to the Past was influential for building A Link Between Worlds, Majora's Mask will be used as a kinda template/influence for building Zelda Wii U.

That's my guess, which is why a Majora's Mask 3D remake would be quite perfect.

So excited. This and OoT were the reason I bought a 3DS at launch.

Well and MGS3D but that turned out to be shit.

I always think of the dude who asked Aonuma about MM at Comicon and said "Please tell me it's for Wii U.". He sounded so pathetic. He's totally not getting a Wii U remake.

Aonuma doesn't do the remakes, he's in charge of the new Zelda's, and he just made the 3DS game, so I'm pretty sure Majora's Mask is part of the new mainline WiiU game.

A direct Majora's Mask Wii U sequel would blow my tiny little mind.

So it probably won't happen, it's too perfect.

there have been so many references to Majora's Mask that at this point i think a few things are possible.

a. the Wii U Zelda game is heavily influenced by Majora's Mask and the connection will be obvious to long time Nintendo fans

b. the Wii U or 3DS will receive a remake or remastered version of Majora's Mask in 2014/2015

c. Nintendo and Aonuma are fucking with our minds just to see us dance like puppets

i'd rather it be option "b" the most.

He just made Wind Waker HD. He was a producer on Ocaina 3D as well

I think it's c.

I don't think it's b, the Wii U already had a remake very recently. 3DS could be, but again, I don't think Aonuma has anything to do with remakes and there's really no need to tease them either.

These are the same people that took Cranky Kong to VGX as their flagship announcement....

I have no doubt we'll get Majora 3D. Hell, I think as we got Link to the Past 2 on 3DS we'll essentially get Ocarina 3 on Wii U. They need this Zelda to sell, and making it linked to Ocarina (and to a lesser extent, Majora) is the best way to do this.

It's completely necessary for Nintendo to do that at this point. Unfortunately for them, fortunate for us

This game better sell well with all the begging it's getting or Nintendo will never listen to us again!

They had better make it as close to OoT/TP style Zelda as possible. I love MM to death but a WiiU Zelda game that plays in the same style is pure sales suicide at this point (even though I'd love it). WW HD sold about 40k in Japan. Japan is a lost cause for console Zelda so they should focus on the OoT/TP mold to maximise sales potential in the west...

If they want to to sell then they'd better put it on 3DS. Or make it a full scale HD remake on WiiU (which wouldn't make sense when they can put those resources into a new Zelda U).

He is the producer on all Zelda games. GECCO did OoT for 3ds, and they are almost certainly doing Majora's Mask.

Even though he did not directly work on the OoT remake, he was still very active in the promotion, and even did an Iwata asks. So, your supposition that he only handles new Zeldas and this must be a hint at the new one is flawed.

But I thought Twilight Princess was the direct sequel to Ocarina....

This got me thinking of combining the rental mechanic with the 3 day cycle. It would be interesting having to plan which items you needed for each cycle but maybe it would make rupees even more important *shudder*.

I really want something like that.

Majora is pretty good, but I already played this game ... I want NEW games

I'd prefer if the new Zelda on Wii U didn't have any connection to Ocarina, but after the Majora's Mask remake, the 3DS got a "third N64 Zelda". Using the same engine, the same gameplay, but a new world with new puzzles and dungeons to explore.

He didn't find Navi though :( Well... unless his Wiimote cursor is Navi.

That's honestly exactly what I thought 3DS Zelda would be. OoT3D was simplistic, but bloody gorgeous. Best 3D on the system too.

Yeah I think it is a MM influenced Wii U game. I think it's unrealistic for there to be both a Wii U and 3DS Zelda game on the way, when we got Wind Waker HD and Link Between Worlds only a few months ago.

You probably put on the masks using the Wii U Gamepad.

I don't see what is so appealing about a direct sequel, I really don't feel I want to play a game that revisits Termina, MM was perfect the way it was.

Now the idea of using MM as a template for the next Zelda is pretty neat, maybe they'll do a 7 day cycle like it was originally planned for MM.
