Okay, so I turned on my xbox one to mess with settings. I have it set to automatically download updates. Is it like the ps3 and it automatically downloads updates of any games i've played??

While I can't imagine any plausible explanation for using 13GB for an update than a horribly ineffective structure of the application or some really fundamental problem that requires a clean sweep, I do find it hilarious that people in a gaming forum on the internet are worried that 13GB kills their download cap.

Auto-downloading DLC into the game as a required patch is repugnant. I don't care if Steam or any other platform does it that's just wrong. I don't care if it is more convenient for the developers, publishers, or what-not. We're likely entering an era of more bandwidth restrictions, not less (unless you are willing to pay extra money for business class or whatever they label it as), and there should be a way to refuse the download of optional content and still retain the ability to play the game.

So, if most of the patch is just (apparently) overwriting old info... Hopefully its to prepare the game for the DLC? Meaning the next 3 patches may be smaller, because 50+ gigs for unwanted DLC is insane.

Generally I think it's impossible for multiplayer games to function properly without everyone running on the same version.

This doesn't add 13GB to the total install size, right? It must replace loads of files that are already on the hard disk.

Edit: Apologies Minsc

I was thinking about SP mainly -- I have no problem with some concessions being made for MP compatibility as generally those customers will have the better bandwidth situation and there is a real benefit to it perhaps. Maybe that'll be the case here.

Well, this isnt Steam and the 360s update mechanics were fantastic. I wonder what happened here.

Fyi Steam solved the update problem on their end, you should never see updates that trigger a complete redownload anymore and devs don't need to develop specific patches either (so long as you're ok with non steam versions needing a full re-download, or have no non-steam version),

Fairly unrelated to this though, a 13GB download indicates a significant amount of assets being replaced or added... That's more space than your average game uses for all of its assets sans FMV. And FMV is the primary reason why we see 25+GB games at the moment.

Borderlands had an optional patch to make your game compatible with the latest version.

Given not everyone wants to play online coop , DR3 should and could have given us the choice.

How is it even possible for a 13GB patch to be released and nobody have a clue what it actually does?

The same reason we don't know what the 5GB patch did last month.

If this update really replaced or improved anything game related Micrsoft and Capcom were the fist who communicated this over all the gazillion media sites. I think the whole OS and tools are far from being finished and I really hope sizes like these never happen for this generation on either system.

Well I guess it at least contains a new version of the HW drivers/SDK. Usually they come with each game separately to ensure compatibility. Maybe they removed the upscaler sharpening shit? *believe*

This Gen is going to be interesting. It took me 99+ hours to download Battlefield 4 on PS4.
99+ hours is literally what it said when I started the download

Wouldn't this make the game unplayable for people with caps ?

This cap thing is fucking ridicilous, is it an american thing ?

I know in England you can choose to have a cap. You can pay less to have a 10GB limit per month.

I wonder if this issue is somehow affected by the "play while download not finished" system, where just big chunks of the game needs to be available and therefore those chunks need to be downlaoded fully.

Well it doesn't need to improve anything really to fall in to the categories I mentioned, since it's possible their assets are packed in to large groups and had to be completely replaced in order to make small changes. But it's pretty much impossible to require a 13GB patch without huge asset changes/replacements.

Data caps are a stupid idea perpetuated by gouging ISPs. I personally find them loathsome. Throttling is equally unpleasant and retarded.

Surely this 13GB thing is a world record?

This is a mandatory patch, right? You cannot bypass it?

Singapore here. Data cap disappeared when we got rid of dial-up and upgraded to broadband. Now the entire island has mostly upgraded to fibre. Still no gigabit plan offered though.

Mobile phone plans used to have a 12 GB cap minimum, but has now shrank to 2GB. There was a huge hubbub about it and a shit load of complaints, so I don't think they will risk caps for home internet (also our government actually works and regulates telcos pretty well)

Just turned on my Xbox One to download this in preparation for the DLC and my Xbone had already downlaoded and installed the update.

13Gb patches are a bit of a joke though. Especially when the 360 had those super small patches.

You can reject it but you are not able to play DR3 online then.

That's a crazy size for a patch.

Serious question, do the PS4 or Xbox One do delta patching? If not someone screwed up, as I would have expected this feature to be included in both consoles.

Did you notice any difference while playing the game after the patch?

Hrm. So this leads me to a question - if this is indeed DLC, wouldn't it be considered "unsolicited goods", and thus already legally owned by the recipient? At least in UK and other EU countries with similar legislation?

Well than thats just bad infrustructure from the OS and/or bad game design in the first place. They should rename it from "patch" to "reinstall" then.

I'm assuming no... only because the content remains locked unless you purchase it.

Man nobody has yet figured out what this patch is about? NeoGAF is slow tonight this morning :p

I have posted it a few times, a few pages back.
It's a compatibility patch that includes the Episode 1 of the season pass DLC which is released tomorrow.
Has new story and character, new weapons, new vehicles and new costumes.

Turned on my X1 this morning to DL this update and it jumped to 50% complete straight away didn't take too long to do the rest.
