Holy shit. I'm not even done watching Round 1 and I'm blown away.

EDIT

HOLY SHIT! The diagram. Professor Shine. That lab coat and goggles. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Didn't really feel that battle as a whole but K-Shine's 2nd round was RIDICULOUS. The Macho Camacho line.. god. damn.

Thanks.

And yes I cannot wait for Hollow to come back. I can watch dude's battles a million times.

I probably account for half the views for this video of all of his rounds. Dude is so consistent, every line is a goddamn quotable.

N***a you sweet like fruit punch,

Night of Main Events 3 is today. Anyone go?

Hollow Da Don vs Tsu Surf
Hitman Holla vs Conceited
Big T vs K-Shine
T-Rex vs Dizaster
Charlie Clips vs B Magic
DNA vs Chilla Jones

Hopefully Smack uploads something for the 4th of July, but he's on "real nigga time" so I doubt that.

Also, anyone see Daylyt strip in that 'Don't Flop' battle?

NOME3 Recap is up. First battle, Hollow vs. Tsu-Surf dropping July 4th. HYPE! Most excited for that.

SMH @ Hollow reusing one of his old lines though.

Good looking, was about to post it myself. And yeah, WTF @ Hollow reusing a line, especially like that. Also looks like the URL crowd wasn't fucking with Dizaster as was expected.

And yo, I rewatched the Yung Ill Vs T-Rex battle, that shit is incredible. Not sure who I give it to, but they both had great fucking rounds.

^ yeah that battle is hot. Took me a while to warm up to Yung Ill but I enjoy that battle thoroughly.

Hollow Da Don vs. Tsu-Surf is up.

Watching now.

EDIT: Hollow 2-1. 2nd round debatable, Hollow obviously has the 3rd and Surf the 1st, but I personally liked Hollow's approach more than Surf's, and Surf's 3rd round was extra weak overall.

^^^Couldn't agree more. Hollow 2-1 for me. Gotta say though, Lux will retire Hollow if he comes at Lux with these types of bars.

"How you a broke version of a broke person" *DEAD*

I want to see Diz Vs Rex next.

DNA vs Chilla Jones is up!!

SMMMMMRACK! Where y'all at Gaf?
I thought more people would stick with this thread but that doesn't seem to be the case :(

Battle was good. Chilla had a lot of hard hitting shit, sometimes he gets too much into it though. Enjoyed DNA more than I usually do too. I'd give it Chilla 3-0 but I'd understand if someone gave the third to DNA. Chilla went off in the first round especially. But good battle that wasn't exactly a landslide (no pun intended) victory.

I'm watching the thread but these latest Smack matchups aren't intriguing in the slightest. Add to that, that hardly anyone is showing love to the various other matchups (KOTD, Don't Flop, random ass upstart leagues paying their whole budgets for big main events) and it's nothing to comment on.

Aye Verb vs. Arsonal is up. Verb still got it, liked Ars more than I usually do too, less filler. I feel like Verb won that after first watch.

TBQH I only really like KOTD when they bring in internationals to battle some of the bigger locals, but they're expanding now so I'm paying a bit more attention. Same goes for internationals. None of the NOME 3 matchups interest you at all? Damn. To each their own though.

Smack has put on some great battles here and there, it's just these latest matchups that don't do anything for me. I mean Tsu vs Hollow, Diz vs T Rex, Holla v Con, these are match ups where only one dude interests me (or in the Diz v Rex, neither interest me). Every so often the big cards are like that for me.

Smack has just put out a video expressing his distaste for some of the recent battles. Says it's bars over names and people have been taking a free ride on URL. Smack also details all the criticisms he's taking into account and how he's switching up Summer Madness 3 to be more comfortable. I feel him too. The Clips/B-Magic, Big-T/K-Shine, etc. battles sucked, straight up. The best anything on the channel that has been hot has been Real Deal's rounds on UFF. Been watching a lot of KotD recently, mostly matches with absorbed GrindTime rappers or people from NY though.

First Summer Madness 3 card is Daylyt and Swave Sevah. Daylyt kinda operates on a different frequency, I think dude is going to get ripped to shreds by the URL audience. If they booed Verb, they're gonna have NO patience for this dude.

Dizaster vs. T-Rex. Crowd was feeling Diz more than I expected, but really URL crowds are the fucking worst. I enjoyed this battle quite a bit. Diz kinda went in. Probably the best NOME3 battle thus far. I think only Holla and Conceited is left? Should be great, word of mouth is that it's by far the best out of the NOME3 battles.

Been watching a lot of Real Deal recently. Dude is too funny, though his freestyling isn't as great as it once was (stumbled quite a bit in UFF, dat pressure).
Real Deal vs. B Magic
Real Deal vs. Young Kannon

Seriously, dead @ all of those Real Deal rounds.

Bumping this

Real Deal vs. B-Magic

Dat SMACK debut by Real Deal.

Daylyt vs. Lotta Zay

One of the best this year, easy to miss since it was in iBattle.

T-Rex vs. O-Red

3-0 body.

Villun vs. Sonny Bamboo

Seasoned vet destroys up and comer.

"You're whiter than art paper or
Darth Vader taking his mask off
."
These are all fantastic. The fuck @ Lottazay dressed like one of those Star Wars guards though lol That battle is definitely one of the better ones I've watched this year though. Probably the best Daylyt performance I've seen.. but that might be because it's the easiest for me to digest.

While the stove is hot, let's try making this thread active again.

Yeah. IMO 2009-10 was the peak of battle rap.
Shit is gonna continue to improve as other leagues put pressure on Smack and make the matches he can't or won't. There's plenty good shit going on now, look at how good some of these new PG dudes are.
Competition is really good. Look at the quality of that livestream. Probably not sustainable at all considering venue ticket prices and who was on the card, but it's a step towards creating something like that in-house.

I think as long as the most popular battle rappers are divas, things will only get worse. I really have lost patience seeing good battle rappers x and y refuse to do a match on Smack and then half assing it on KotD or some 5rd rate league, giving us a battle with less replay value. And as long as KotD and UW aren't developming great talent on their own (KotD is better in this regard), we won't see the competition that the game is missing.

2010 and 2012 are on par, but I'd edge it to 2012. In 2012 we saw the explosion of the PGs, KotD's greatest progress, a diversification of styles, bigger sponsorships, as well as a weaning off of the GrindTime nerd era. Competition soared as Lux and Chilla changed the game and we saw most of these guys' best and most lyrical performances. Granted, Mook also sort of fucked up the game in 2012 by making it all about the money, but still.

Either way I'm really excited about battle rap in the future. It's chugging along well. Just needs more good cards and matches to be made. The one great thing about battle rap is that even if you lose, get bodied even you can come back and help make some awesome battles. It's not like boxing when you take an L and you're done.

Heres to 2014.

Man I have to disagree with the labeling of GrindTime as the "Nerd Era" when GT was responsible for the major resurgence of Battle Rap and brought dudes to the table like Conceited, Illmac, Thesaurus, Hollow, Marvwon, and they gave dudes like Fresco, Soul Khan, Real Deal, Ness Lee, and Dizaster a chance to shine. Hollow being the biggest boon since Smack would've never gave him the slighest chance coming off his absolutely terrible showing at the second WRCs. It's also worth noting that without GT (Lush One specifically to be honest) there would've been no blueprint for KOTD or Don't Flop to follow so we'd have never seen dudes like Pat Stay, Shotty Horroh, or Hollohan either.

I mean I get that you're not into a lot of the styles that came out of GT at the time but really, GT was not only the only organization out there bringing Battle Rap back in a large way but they gave everybody a chance to make their mark. Can't help to respect that.

I agree. Nothing wrong with nerd rap too. Nowadays you got Charron/other Canadians and Dont Flop rappers with gun bars. Shit is corny.

just saw this thread.

That Justice/Thesaurus battle has been my favorite for ages now. "less distinguished version of an English person" is fucking classic.
Illmaculate vs Bender is another battle you guys should watch. (didn't see it listed in any of the post)

gun bars are corny in general.

There's a video on youtube where Nocando's freestyle destroys two dudes that came with written gun bars.

So what happened to that one dude that actually rubbed his hands on his nuts and then put that hand on another dudes back and face? Has he tried anything as crazy as that since? Shit killed any momentum other guy had.

Lol nobody got killed or bodybagged in that.

Nah, Hollow took that 3 to 0, that's a kill in my book. He pretty much broke down everything Lux was going to throw at him. Lux had nice shots but in the end their impact was lessened quite a bit by Hollow. Lux's entire offense was crushed.

It's like Mighty Ducks 3 (I think) when they went into Flying V formation and the other team did the V crusher. Flying V is still a dope formation, but against what it went up against? Worthless.

Lux's bars were dope as fuck, stop it. Did his personals land, no. But just based off the sheer bars he put together you can't say he got killed. His 3rd round is probably one of the best he's ever had in his career. I think Hollow had everything else above Lux, but based on pure Lyricism Lux was better in every round. I don't have a problem with people scoring Hollow 3-0 or whatever but 2-1 either way makes more sense to me. Hollow also had more filler than you're willing to acknowledge, I think.

You need to read again and stop being so defense bruh. I said that Lux came with it never took that away from him. But Hollow made it all irrelevant. His double entendres were cute and all, but we aren't scoring an album here my dude. It's a rap battle and at the end of the day Hollow's ability to take Lux's entire offense and make it irrelevant and throw it back in his face counts for more than "oh man that was a hot line!".

And really mentioning fillers without talking about Lux? Word? Wooord?

Yes. Daylyt showed up to battle a blind battle rapper dressed as Batman and his last battle against B-Magic he dressed up like Morpheus and put on one of the strangest performances I've ever seen in anything ever.

I agree with you that Hollow won. How are you saying that Hollow made it irrelevant? That makes no sense. You don't make someone's punches and the intricate bars they wrote not matter just cause your personals and performance are amazing. otherwise guys like JC and Chilla and B-Magic would 'lose' everytime against dudes like Clips, Ill Will, etc.

I think URL is planning another card around the time or before the Go-Rilla/URL card.

URL taking NOME 4 suggestions. I think Goodz vs. Aye Verb is locked in (don't care much for that TBH). I put what I thought into the comments anyways even though it's unrealistic.

Charlie Clips vs Hollow Da Don
B Magic vs Conceited
Ill Will vs Danny Myers
Real Deal or Charron vs Yung Ill or Tech 9
Dizaster vs. Hitman Holla

Not all of GrindTime was the nerd era. It's well known what GrindTime has done for the game and the talent they have developed across pretty much all of America when Smack left; the nerd era was when the different parts of the organization started splintering and falling apart, and when you started seeing those nerd styles pretty much bubble to the top, trying to get everyone and their technical support to rap, and that's what gave GrindTime that reputation and what contributed to their fall from grace. Most of these same nerd rappers from the late GT days are trying their luck in KotD now. 2012 was when that transition was sort of made and Drect called it in IMO.

And the reason Chilla and B-Magic in particular don't lose everytime is the same reason why vast majority of people are giving the W to Hollow. He took Lux's entire battle plan, angle and gimmick and threw it back in Lux's face ontop of adding his own bars that Lux did not rebuttal (this is key). Lux for the most part ignored Hollow's rebuttals and stuck with his script, and again I state Lux was nice as fuck but Hollow just came with it.

Now had Hollow just break down Lux's angle and gimmick but not sprinkle his own stuff into it then yea Lux would have won.

Again, Mighty Ducks analogy.

Lux vs Hollow = Lux 2-1
Lux took that 3rd round. That shit hit so hard. I'm good either way anyone calls it because Hollow was great. Hope they do it again, but I doubt Hollow will be able to handle Lux in a rematch.

Yep. I also want to see Daylyt vs. Lux. I think Daylyt is the only guy besides Hollow who can give Lux that work. Hard to attack a guy like that with any angles. What are you gonna say? He's a weirdo? He's "gay"?

He embraces all of it.
