O snap

The more hear Marc Whitten and Phil Spencer talk (especially Spencer) the happier I am that Don Mattrick isn't in charge of Xbox anymore.

2nd party games? He may have a point.

I was thinking 1st party games.

1st party / 2nd party... pretty much the same result. MS publishes and ties the game to the Xbox brand. In the case of Gears of War they just locked it up. The tweet asked about the next big flagship franchise. Why couldn't it come from a 2nd party type AAA exclusive?

In one his tweets, he said he teases things when they are actually coming, so I think Crackdown and Phantom Dust are pretty much a given at this point.
I sure hope so. MS has some great titles that failed because the Xbox wasn't too popular for anything besides halo back in the day. They have some great rare ips that can be used. They just have to do it.

So I take it when people talk about the amazing X1 lineup and how it's better than PS4, they're only talking about the launch titles, correct?

Because going forward, it's the X1 that seems rather barren. Titanfall in March (my PC is ready), then Halo in late 2014 maybe. Sunset Overdrive sometime in 2014. And that's it? Then you have small titles, well really only D4 comes to mind.

I don't see where all the hype about the X1 lineup comes from

microsoft's exclusives are never going to be on the same level as sony's and nintendo's if they keep making the same ones over and over and not take risks.

the biggest identifiers of sony and nintendo exclusives are the way the companies approach them. nintendo always reinvents the same franchise every generation and they branch out those franchises, combine them, make them work. sony, on the other hand, produces new ips every gen with the exception of their biggest dog, gran turismo. that is how people identify playstations and that's why whenever people talk about playstation they segregate it by generations because each gen is unique and identifiable, but with ninty the players talk more about which version of the game was best so you get the spread of people wanting the n64 zeldas but favour the snes marios, etc.

Forza Horizon 2 most likely will make it in 2014.

Forza Horizon, Halo 5, Sunset Overdrive, and titanfall. ps4 has the order and infamous. 2014 is definitely microsofts year as of right now.

Maybe quantum break. Fable Maybe. Sony and Microsoft have pretty solid lineups overall I think.

That's it?

LOL.

I know your post is just a troll post, but I'll bite. Gears, Fable Legends, Quantum Break, Kinect Sports Rivals, and Project Spark can be added as well. Forza Horizon is likely coming, Lionhead is working on a new IP, and RARE is more than likely working on more than just Kinect Sports. We haven't even hit E3 yet. I imagine much more stuff will be announced then as well.

New IP is so critical that we're canceling it for IPs from last gen.
Cancelling a game that was falling behind? And from his tweets, it sounds like black tusk isn't a gears developer in the same way that 343 is a halo developer. Gears 4 sells well, the team grows, splits, and starts working on other ips.

And Uncharted and Driveclub.
The Show as well, I think it's a nice year in general coming up. Can't wait to see what they have in store never having owned an Xbox as I was never big into their 1st party stuff but new gen maybe I'll be surprised.

I like Phil Spencer, he is super passionate and doing great work bringing awesome games to Xbox.

I agree, but I can't tell if you are serious. I was expecting a lot of snark in this thread, and accusations that he's a "lying snake" because of the lost Black Tusk IP.

This guy is a much better face for the games division than Mattrick ever was. I'm glad that he seems to actually care about games.

Too many psychos were being discredited so they wheeled out Spencer.

Spawts. Spawts spawts. Spawts spawts spawts spawts spawts spawts spawts. It's good, I like him, he's easily the least offensive MS exec around.

Sure if you ignore everything else (Driveclub and MLB seem ti be missing not to mention Uncharted). Heck, just look at this list http://m.neogaf.com/showthread.php?t=723415

It's ridiculously one sided plus superior versions of probably every multiplat

What's funny? UC2 and 3 both took 1 year from reveal to release, did they not?

I thought dragonborn is talking about 2014 only, otherwise, yeah it was a troll post.

Pretty much yea, it's hard to tell because outside of Titanfall/Infamous there doesn't seem to be any solid release dates other than sometime in the future. We don't even know when Driveclub is coming out which is just weird

Didn't catch that Ruffian was working with MS again. Crackdown 3 with proper time.budget, make it happen! Also worth mentioning is the ZombieMMO coming from Undead Labs. Rumors of a Platinum exclusive as well.

Right. There is a TON of stuff in the pipeline. I don't think XB1 fans need to worry about having a lack of exclusives.

I'm really not expecting Uncharted PS4 to even make it to fall of 2014. Even if it already has a head start it's gonna be a huge ass game even for a PS4 title. ND's known for pushing a console's hardware. Who's to say ND won't be pushing the fuck out of the PS4's loins?

With Capcom currently having so much financial trouble causing them to shift focus and Dead Risng 3 doing relatively well, I wonder what the chances are of ms funding dr4 for the xb1 are. The budget honestly can't be astronomical.

I think it has a shot. I mean, UC3 came out in 2011 so they've likely been working on it for a while now. I don't think they'd just sit around doing nothing for two years. People seem to forget ND has two teams at the moment

MS would probably love to fund it but that's the issue with third party exclusives. Capcom could very well see the opportunity and go multiplat to get more sales in. It wouldn't surprise me at all since that's pretty much what they did with DR2

I don't speak for everyone, but personally, I don't give a lick about something being exclusive - I just want it to be GOOD. I can't remember the last actual exclusive I've played on 360. Everything I play is either also on Steam, or also on PS3. I choose their systems mostly because of friends and also because I love their OS. Just let me build a nice library of awesome games, whether it's 3rd party or 1st party, and I'm happy.

Having said that, it will be awfully nice to play Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, D4, and other titles in the coming year. Especially Quantum Break. Remedy can't do wrong in my eyes - Alan Wake was one of my games of the gen.

It'll have 3 years in development by Q4 this year, and the others are right to be honest. They've all had reveals and then released a year later. It'll be a big undertaking, but I don't think enough to push it past a 3 year development cycle.

y'all should be ashamed
Honest question: does MS have some studios that we don't know what they're working on yet, and can deliver a big AAA game?

It's Microsoft's top selling launch title, so I can't imagine a sequel won't happen. I hope they get a bigger budget for the next one so a Dead Rising game can for once be extremely polished.

Eh I'll be happy when I start to see some real interesting looking new IP

Sunset Overdrive has potential to be that for me maybe, quantum break looks cool but the tv element really turns me off on it, and Ryse/lococycle etc. aren't good enough but those are launch games so meh

I want a big AAA new IP and I'm sure I'll see it from MS just curious on the when

Wait we've had Forza Horizon 2 announcements? Where the hell was I?

Well they had Black Tusk. I think they also have a Studio in Japan (Osaka?) nothing else comes to mind, a lot of their studios seem to be small working on kinect/apps.

don't think so.

They are def missing out on studios.

Really should look into doubling up teams at their bigger studios.

If they got a second team going at Rare that works on actual games would be fantastic.

But Capcom isn't even close to being in the same position. And going by what they have been saying, their direction is quickly shifting away from large budget console games. I don't think they would be willing to take the risk right now. Instead, I could easily see them letting ms fund the franchise for one or two more entries until they regain their footing. At least then they can keep the ip fresh in peoples minds and continue to see how customers value the ip.
But I doubt ms would ever buy the ip outright. They already have state of decay.

Honest question: does MS have some studios that we don't know what they're working on yet, and can deliver a big AAA game?

Studios owned by MS, nope. They're pretty much all accounted for.

The only studios that are 'unannounced and unknown quantities' are Lift London, and a few other small Kinect-focused studios. None that are AAA in calibre.

Nope, Osaka Studio confirmed vaporware ( aka Mattrick Lies ). There's no actual developmental resources at MS Osaka, though they will of course, be funding Japanese exclusives from 3rd-party studios.

Lionhead. And while rare most likely isn't making a AAA game, something along the lines of viva pinata (or just viva pinata 3) would be really cool. Aren't they working on something besides kinect stuff?
