NIS America Holding Press Event on February 13th

I thought a little about it and if they announced DR2 before DR was even out they'd hopefully get some serious flak for it. Both games are bundled as one in Japan and sold for the price of one full game. NISA cut one game off and translated it (and they're selling it at full price) to see if there is enough interest for a second one. If they announced the second game without even gauging the interest properly (with sales, not the vocality of the fanbase on the internet) they'd effectively be selling you one game for the price of two (or more accurately here two for the price of four). Even if they were planning on doing that from the beginning I'd hope they'd at least let some time pass so it's not as blatant.

the amount of text they had to translate, edit, and voice, the amount testing they had to do, it's so absolutely huge for such a niche genre that the only way to make a profit and ensure more games like this would be to do the first and then the second.

it's like if we never got ace attorney and the first time we got the series was based off the 3ds ports within the trilogy collection, one at a time. there's a massive amount of text to go through and it would not be a profitable venture to do it all at once.

Yeah I agree about the effort, that kind of only came to my mind once I submitted the post. It would still be weird to see an announcement of it before the first game even released. I doubt they're going to bother with more than one Vita game right now anyway and I see the Neptunia remake as a more likelier candidate.

we know that someone somewhere said sales are higher than expected for dr1, so we know there's some positive news going forward on that front. i'm not sure how much longer they're doing neptunia stuff with idea factory international being a thing.

Well, they'd voluntarily commit to release the second chapter before even knowing how the first game is gonna perform. That'd be pretty ballsy.

games are ordered months before they actually release. they know sales numbers long before it actually hits the market.

They've already completely sold out of LE's and the game isn't even out yet.

I don't know how financially responsible would be basing your expected sales for such a niche game exclusively on pre-orders and betting on it. Don't get me wrong, I hope it's gonna sell gangbusters and I will gladly support them, but I understand that a small company handling such a "content heavy" game would like to play it safe before committing to the following, probably even more huge, project.

Is Disgaea 3 overly difficult? I enjoyed Fire Emblem, and it's sort of the same type of game. I have it on my Vita but haven't gotten around to it, is it accessible or it meant more for hardcore SRPG fans?

it's not the seller determining sales numbers based on preorders- it's the buyer. if gamestop is extrapolating for x amount based on preorders, then that's on them when they place the order. some negotiation may also happen, but if sales are better than expected, then it means no negotiation took place (most likely).

Err, they're already "bothering" with 3 Vita games (Danganronpa, Demon Gaze, Neptunia PP) right now, not to mention the additional ones they're publishing in Europe.

Gonna be there once again with my group and chances are we'll be doing interviews, aside from live tweeting.

Might ask you all again for possible questions for the DR producer, but not totally sure just yet.

Oh no I didn't mean it in that sense. It's just that Disgaea 4 just came out and DR1 isn't out in the West yet and I can't think of that much more that's still up for localization.

No, it's not overly difficult, it's probably close to Fire Emblem Awakening on Normal/Casual, maybe harder if you don't figure out techniques like chain-throwing. I guess the catch is, Disgaea has a ton of mechanics, but they're almost all optional, so you can figure things out at your own pace. If you want, you can play through like it's a simple, classic RPG, although it wouldn't be much fun. I'd say Disgaea is more accessible than Final Fantasy Tactics and the older Fire Emblems.

That's good to know. Saw the game at a friend's house once and was quite overwhelmed by the huge amount of different mechanics. Maybe I should give Disgaea 3 on the Vita a shot.

3 on Vita is great because it incorporates a lot of mechanics from 4 on the PS3. I think it's a safe guess that 4 Vita has mechanics from Disgaea D2? Maybe someone could confirm this?

The Vita version of 4 has the cheat shop from D2. That's all I know so far.

Looking forward to this. They usually announce a bunch of stuff at these. Disgaea 4 Return should be very likely, apart from that, I don't know, can't think of much I'd to excited about right now.

I really hope they announced DanganRonpa 2 at the event. I think it would be a bold move, and one that would be very beneficial to the series.

I know people are still wary about companies continuing to support the Vita, and this would be a great show of confidence by NISA. Plus, it would really solidify DanganRonpa as one of their core IPs, and encourage people to get on board without worrying that we won't see future games. (Similar to how Bamco has been going hard with Tales announcements in the West.)

The more I think about it, the more I want them to do it. C'mon NISA!

What? An NIS America press briefing on my birthday?

Hmmmm.
This makes me think things, because of other things. Good things.

It was Houk on the official NISA message boards FYI.

Yup. I don't think their LEs are big runs at all. Even the ones where they do bigger runs (ie Disgaea) must be massively underproduced for demand because they tend to sell out in about 48 hours.

They are smaller numbers, but it still usually takes about a month or two for them to fully sell out. Don't forget, they do put the pre-orders up a few months before release. Just depends how late some people are on finding them.

what other things?

ah okay. well in that case i suspect that's true. when an l.e. sells out before the game launches, that's always a good thing (in terms of success... maybe not so much in terms of people getting it).

There are three Neptunia games to yet have a localization announced for the Vita. Just give me Re;Birth 1 (because obviously the other two aren't far enough along yet) and I'll be fine.

Strap on your hooker ...
I have this weird feeling there'll be something totally out of left field, like Ciel Nosurge or Exstetra or something.

2+2=5

The Amiga Brotherhood
Imo it's too early for Daganronpa 2, but i would not say no lol.

Games with big chances of localizations are:
Disgaea4
Criminal Girls(for some reason i thought its localization was already announced lol)
Neptunia 1 Rebirth
Some visual novel(Fate, Steins Gate or others)
Some PSP game

Games i would like to see:
True Night of the Kamaitachi
Damascus Gear
Assault Gunners
Labyrinth Cross Blood Infinity

Oh god forbid I was not talking in that sense. I meant like overall quality of the games.
Sorcery Saga is a good game.

Oh man i completely forgot Extetra, looking at the recent trend i would say that it has HUGE chances of being localized imo :\

EDIT:
Akiba's Trip 2 has good chances of localization too imo.

Akiba's Trip 2 was already teased by XSEED, S;G on consoles is not going to happen, sadly.

I don't see why people think it's Super Danganropa 2.

David Alonzo already said it "all depends on how the first game performs". The first one hasn't even been released yet.

Because you can gauge a games performance by how many preorders it gets. That's why preorders exist, to see how many units to ship out. It could be possible they are already satisfied with the preorder numbers to justify getting started on the second one. It has happened before with games, like Tales of Xillia 2.

Good chance it won't be announced, but it isn't crazy to think it has a chance of being announced.

When you have the guy who's in charge of marketing coordination say it "depends on how the first game performs", they're probably waiting for feedback than just pre-order numbers.

I'm not privy not NIS's sales data, but in the case of niche games like this, you never want to put yourself in a situation where you promise the sequel to a game before you see how the fist one performs. You could end up in a situation similar to TitS.

Relaying on solely pre-order data (and pre-orders haven't even finished yet) to justify a sequel for a niche game isn't wise.

Actually if things are looking good it's a great idea to announce the sequel, it increases peoples confidence to buy the game when they know the sequel will be released

well at this point, things are beyond the preorder stage. retailers would have put in actual orders a month or two in advance.

With the MonMon and Mugen Souls censoring fiasco, there is NO WAY Criminal Girls would make it. Also, they have been done with PSP for a while. Generation of Chaos was their last one and I don't think they are interested anymore. Not with a handful of Neptune to work on.
