Titanfall on 360 delayed to Mar 25th for "finishing touches"

Exactly the sneaky underhanded stunts I would expect from MS corporate. Guess we know who is in charge of the XB1 division.

I don't really see much risk, but that still doesn't mean it makes sense that a two week delay is going to convince people to run out and spend $500.

It's not so much convincing gamers to spend the $500 as it is putting the idea in their head that they should upgrade sooner rather than later. There is no better way to send the message that the 360 won't be supported forever, and that you might miss out on big things, by delaying arguably the biggest release of the year a few weeks.

Seeing how well 3rd party games did at launch I don't believe this will make much of a difference. Anyone who wants to purchase a $500 console to play Titanfall is looking to upgrade to next gen regardless and want an excuse to do so.

I think some of you need to step back and actually read what your typing, the lack of objectivity shown in this thread is astounding, seriously take a step back and just honestly think about what you are typing and how it may look to a normal person.

Okay, so get of your soap box and objectively us peasants what normal people think?

I think they would have delayed the 360 version longer if the point was to sell more on the xbone.

I think "Thanks Microsoft!" is the gamer version of "Thanks Obama!".

I think a lot of gamers are so caught up in fanboyism they can't see outside the cloud of smoke.

It's a two week delay for polish. Wait a couple weeks and get the 360 version, or just get the PC/One version a little earlier. Hell, you can enjoy South Park: The Stick of Truth or Dark Souls 2 while you wait.

Lots of fun games for everyone in March.

I dunno, I like to consider myself a pretty rational person. I usually don't jump to outlandish conclusions nor do I have a form fitting tinfoil hat.....that said though the first thought that ran through my head when I read this news was.."guess they want to squeeze as much out of the One version and pick up as many early adopters who may have been on the fence about upgrading there 360's to One's".

Now that said, I do realize it's also coming to the pc but that almost makes this thought more sound... I mean it's ready for release on the Pc and One, but the console that has been out a near decade...that's the version that ran into problems and needs more tweaking to get to a releasable state?

Also like others have said in regards to the 2 weeks... that seems like such a short time to warrant a delay. Especially from a company like EA. All you have to do is look at there history, they are not shy about pushing out an unfinished product just to get it in your hands. Most evident in even there most recent big shooter coming out a broken buggy mess that they are STILL patching to get working right across all platforms.

For full disclosure, I don't have a horse in this race. I don't own either a ps4 or one yet and IF I do decide to pick up titanfall it will be on my pc, as origin isnt such a sore spot with me as it is with others. Also, I am no coder maybe they do need two weeks to get the game running.... Speaking "objectionably" I don't think its too out there to see this as a marketing decision as opposed to a technical one. In the end though the truth is, I know nothing.

Okay, so get of your soap box and objectively us peasants what normal people think?

Normal people wouldn't be thinking a version of a game on an 8 year old console would look the same as a version from a newly released next gen console that has over 10 times the amount of ram and a GPU about 5 times more powerful. Say what you want about the Xbox one VS the PS4 the PS4 is obviously more powerful but it is without question the Xbox one is a generational leap above the Xbox 360. It is just silly spiteful quips to even suggest that somehow the 3rd party port on 8 year old hardware is going to be on par with Respawns version on the Xbox one.

It is also quite silly to think EVERYTHING that happens involving the Xbox one or MS is some grand conspiracy by those evil bastards at MS. I mean come on the amount of tin foil hat crap being thrown around is ridiculous. No one is going to spend $500 they were not already going to spend because the 360 version comes out 2 weeks later, it is not going to happen and no sane person would think that. It is 2 freaking weeks 500$ is not chump change somehow they are just going to throw out the window when we are talking about a 2 week delay.

I think for alot of you it is time to decompress from the rage and anger take a couple of deep breaths and realize the Xbox one boogy man is not going to get you when you sleep.

It obviously "won't look the same" but there is speculation that it will similar. I don't subscribe to any of those theories nor do I care. Microsoft has been trying to bullshit us ever since the reveal of the One, and they have gone on many of their lies. Granted, it seems like they are trying to turn a new leaf, but we are still very hesitant.

This two delay is aimed more for the people like me. I have both consoles (360 and One) yet I was still hesitant on which version to buy. The 360 version should have the bigger population, in theory. With this delay, I will now definitely get the One version, for reasons mentioned earlier. Impulse and desire are strong emotions and I truly think MS wants to play on those. Two weeks isn't that long, but it's long enough to get a little extra cash boost.

Finally, I doubt most of us are angry. I'm quite relaxed and enjoying the friendly discussions.

Lococycle and Halo: Spartan Assault recently had the XBO version come first and then the 360 version a few weeks (or months, Lococycle was November) later. Was that a sneaky tactic designed to sell $500 consoles as well?

Titanfall is and has always been promoted as an XBO game, obviously the priority is on that one. I'd say the XBO version faces more competition from the PC than the 360, why not delay both of the others if it's really a "sneaky underhanded" tactic? Trying to find a conspiracy in everything must be tiring.

They're still putting the finishing touches on BF4 and that game wasn't delayed for two weeks. I suppose it's possible though.

dofry

That's "Dr." dofry to you.
I think the general 'it's to sell more xbones' attitude is not only because of this particular news story, but a preconception based on what has occurred before with MS. Heck, my first thought was exactly the same, but it's because people don't trust them at the moment due to the very mixed messages eariler, so MS needs to build up the trust from the ground up again. Until that happens, there is going to be a lot of 'assume the worst' posts in Gaf.

Yep. No tinfoil hats needed - this is about as transparent as it gets. It's quite obvious. But probably a smart move. They're not losing any money by a slight delay and they might even sell some XB1s. But a subtle message is sent either way.

The comment about not competing with CoD directly was made in June. When PS4 was still an option for them. The scope of how big they could make this game has been limited from the get-go just by virtue of their size and the fact that it's a new IP. It's smart to say those things because it's an accurate representation of reality. "Competitive FPS multiplayer arena" is a large umbrella so obviously it will overlap some with CoD, but the bots and lack of singleplayer to me say they're carving out a different part of the pie. Of course they want the same success as CoD, who doesn't, but not necessarily the same market as CoD. EA has a title for that, and it is for better or worse called Battlefield.

I'm not one of those who say "it's CoD with mechs", but as far as I'm concerned it's clear the influence and it's clear they're sharing many of the same features precisely because they hit the same crowd - perks and challenges iirc and the nearly absent recoil, the obsession with iron sights, a similar focus on hitting 60fps. They want the same audience, the audience will overlap dramatically and Respawn wants to play with the big franchises and be regarded in a similar voice.

I mean you're free to think otherwise, but I'd say the proof is pretty self-evident in this case. Additionally, as I said in my post you quoted, yes it's doing other stuff... like simply adding MOBA elements, like easy to kill bots that must be farmed strategically in order to most efficiently call in your titans. They do this because MOBA's are also incredibly popular, and because it helps non-skilled players feel like they're achieving more. They want a slice of the market that is dominated by Call of Duty and Battlefield, but also wager that if they bring in elements from other ridiculously popular multiplayer online games like League of Legends, you'll naturally grab some of that crowd too. They simply adapting to what they feel the market wants, and in this case that happens to be these sorts of games.

Man, it's really weird how some people will just look for conspiracy at every single opportunity. It's like you have predefined opinions or something and will twist every bit of news to fit them! Surely not confirmation bias or anything.

Why lie about it... "we delayed it because we wanted to give a false sense of exclusivity to the XBO, and need Titan fall to sell XBO's."

"every conspiracy thrives by expanding the conspiracy"

The obvious question that no one's asking: If this was some carefully calculated move to sell Xbox Ones, why not just announce the 360 release date as two weeks later from the outset?

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
I don't doubt amir0x that they want the CoD fan base (I even believe they are going after prominent CoD youtubers to promote the game), but it just doesn't strike me in the same direct competition fashion as Battleifield has these past two iterations. Maybe they feel it would be to their detriment to release it in CoD season. Or maybe EA just needed it for the quarter :p

One thing is clear, this is now going to be quite the fascinating experiment on Xbox One. This is the first game that people think is to be a "killer app" of the gen, and it's on a system that has some distinct disadvantages at market right now. So it'll test the idea of a 'true killer app' in that scenario. I genuinely think it's fascinating for educational purposes... should be some interesting data.

Well, just a couple hypothetical answers to this obvious question could be..

1. They were hoping for a larger install base of One's sold by the time this game released.( I am in no way implying the console is not selling well, breath deep)

2. Maybe the visual quality of this game between the old box and the new one are not nearly as great and don't want that to be a main talking point release day, further hindering the sales of the new consoles version.

Again I'm not claiming either of these as any kind of fact, but they are answers as to why this delay would of not been announced when the game revealed.

A 'normal' person said to me late last year, "It's Microsoft PR, why would they lie?" whilst discussing the XBOne. What a 'normal' person thinks isn't really high on a lot of people's agenda here.

Yes, delaying the world's biggest franchise will entice people.

I thought this game has been finished for a while now. i can't remember where I heard it but it indicated that Respawn has been polishing this game for the last few months.

yeah man it's like if there was a company who was doing nothing but lying and deceiving customers for the last eight months straight, was caught astroturfing on neoGAF like six thousand times, sent marketing peons to blatantly lie about competitors and their own products on forums and reputable websites, attempted a wholesale anti-consumer disruption of the market wherein they couldn't keep their story straight for more than a minute and was recently caught in a scandal wherein they and another company tried to buy youtube positivity whilst telling these same people to keep quiet about the arrangement

surely there is no reason at all to be skeptical about this upright company!

Or maybe the 8 year old hardware needs a little more polish to present a reasonably playable experience? Na couldn't be something as simple as that could it?

If u ask me its a smart move. I never understood the point of having a 360 version. Im even more shocked they didn't go with the marketing line of "this game isn't possible on 360." But

But I think the games gonna b broke at launch anyway. Id trust a crackhead b4 I trust an EA game to work as advertised at launch.

When r ppl gonna stop trusting EA?

Apparently, not supporting old hardware as well as the new hardware is a radical idea. Real conspiracy level stuff. Surely no corporation would ever do such a thing. Pushing back 360 versions of exclusives (which will cost almost nothing in terms of revenue) is something Microsoft would do if XB1 numbers were sagging.

Everyone is totally cool with timed DLC as a motivator yet suggesting that they'd use platform exclusive games the same way is some massive leap in logic.

they never really meant those things

lets give them the benefit of the doubt

this seems like the first time a single version of a multiplatform game has missed the release day while others go ahead as planned. any time I ever hear about a delay it's all versions.

This makes me hate the Xbox One even more. If I purchase Titanfall at all it'll be for the Xbox 360 because it's on-line lobbies are bound to be more full given the 360's larger installed userbase.

Thank you, Amir0x.

MS earned the skepticism they are receiving. I don't know why this is hard to understand for some.

Sure, I'll concede that is a possible reason. Like I've said before I have no idea whats behind the delay. All we have to go on is the reason they gave us. All I'm saying is I can easily see this being a marketing decision over a technical one.

Or your right and a studio that has had good experience with "8 year old hardware" ran into some snags and needed a couple extra weeks to sort it out.

While I font think the two versions will be similar, I do find it odd that the 360 version is being delayed when it's being handled by, what's been spoken as around here at least, a competent dev.

EA has a record of not giving a fuck when it comes to a games condition and release dates and Microsoft, by many of the people crying about fanboyism, have pushed this as a Bone exclusive even before the obvious money hat was dropped so why is it so hard to believe this may be a ploy to get more Bones into people's hands. This game has been pushed since its been annouced as some amazing thing no gamer should miss and why not delay your past gen version to get the impatient to drop dime on your next gen console? It's smart, if a bit scummy, and gives them a chance to push more units in the main "battle" territories.

I just hope it was worth the money Microsoft threw at them.

It's hard for some when EA makes decent games covered in shit. Some people casual and otherwise just can't fathom not buying something on principle when they can just have fun.

EA is a horrible company but no matter how shitty they get you'll still see people here or around the net who will curse them while telling you how Day One they'll be with whatever shlock they release next.
