Samsung To Cut OLED Production Due To Poor iPhone X Sales

Samsung's panel-making division, Samsung Display, is reportedly reducing OLED panel production at its South Chungcheong plant due to lower than expected iPhone X sales. According to Nikkei Asian Review, Samsung now plans to cover 20 million or fewer iPhone X devices for the quarter ending in March, a large decrease from the expected 45 to 50 million units. CNET reports: Apple sold 77.3 million iPhones in the quarter ending in January, down by 1 percent on the previous year. The $1,000 price tag on the iPhone X was blamed for the volume shortfall -- but also contributed to the company making record-breaking profits.Samsung did not respond to CNET's request for comment.

The great thinv about the X is that it makes other iphones cost lesser than the X and makes them more affordable

The iPhone X has been selling poorly? I don't follow the phone industry, but I presumed it was a hit with consumers.

I was gonna get an iPhone X but i think i am gonna wait to see their offerings for 2018. Wasn't there rumored to be an iPhone SE2, and a smaller phone that uses the X design, but utilizes a standard LED and not an Oled?

I think Apple expected to sell more, I guess? I’m still on a 6S, so I don’t plan to upgrade for a whole, but I think Apple just expected everyone to shit their pants and upgrade to the X. I recall when the 6 came out, people were lined up at stores during opening for weeks.

Everyone also expected it to be unavailable for months, but at a 1000 bucks, it was readily available.

I think the price finally bit Apple in the ass with their phones, but hey, they still sold a tonne and people love ❤️ it.

It is a very nice phone, just not for me, right now.

I’ll wait a few more years.

Smartphones are going to see small evolutions in the short term future. In terms of screen and performance they cant get much better. So, not great iphone x sales dont surprise me.
The next big things in the smartphone world is going to be better A.I. Things like siri and Google assist are still quite primitive a lot of queries and tasks you present them with still result in just a web search a majority of the time. These digital assistants can be so much better.

People realized that a phone is just a phone finally. They couldn't justify the cost. That damn facial recognition isn't so hot either from what I have seen.

As someone who has owned almost every iteration of the iphone sans the 4 and 7, the iPhone X is the least appealing phone they have ever put out. I don't like the notch, I don't like the removal of the fingerprint sensor.. and if Apple insists on pushing this design on all future iterations of the phone then I'm moving to android.

Yeah I went with the 8, and im cool with that, Everyone has a line they wont cross, and the X price tag while I could afford it, didn't sit right with me.
