Tweet in question

"It's #InternationalWomensDay I'd like to give a special shoutout to all the men in our lives who have supported us, gave us a voice when we had none, fought for our cause and treated us the way we all ought to treat each other...like a fellow human being - no race, no gender."

Her responses:

"Ive gotten death threats and hundreds of hate messages the past 20 minutes because I thanked men for treating me as their equal, on a day which is all about womens struggle for equality. Hate, because I am grateful for the men in our lives who fight alongside us for our rights..."

"Oh I am sorry...did I offend you by treating ALL genders equal and thank humans for treating each other the way they should? Believe it or not but women are not the only ones fighting for equality."

But I'm sure it was all just a bunch of misogynist man-babies being outraged that someone acknowledged them on twitter, feminists would never ever cause such a thing.

I’d like to see the death threats. Is it "I'm gonna kill you" or "I hope you die"?

Not that either would be acceptable behavior

Im legit curious about which side the threats are coming from, if not from both. I would assume they are from radical feminists.

There's something about death threats received on Twitter that just doesn't seem particularly concerning to me.

ya she does stuff for overwatch league now along with montecristo and doa

Is it women or men sending the death threats? It's ridiculous either way of course.

Anyone asking this question should do your own research, read the replies to this tweet, and note the criticism specifically for mentioning men on international women's day. It basically ranges from "I know you meant well, but..." to "oh sure, thank our oppressors why don't you!"

On one hand, she could have picked a better day to prop men up. No matter how good her intentions were. I mean it's International Women's Day. It's kind of meant to prop up, the women without a voice.

On the other hand, death threats and hate? Fuck off. Especially against a woman expressing her opinion. The internet is a clusterfuck of "me vs you" without any sense of nuance anymore. She's a positive role model and voice in gaming, that posted a tweet that (YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY) she could have posted a day later. The reaction is pretty shameful.

So feminazis get angry because a feminist shouts out male feminists (vomit) on "womens day"

It really isn't hard to see why people hate modern feminism.

Yeah, I mean if you want to empower women, or anyone, you have to be secure enough to allow them a voice. It doesn’t have to be so divided.

But I always struggle with just how real this stuff is. It just sounds like people with empty lives that are creating controversy.

Yeah, not surprising. Twitter does a very bad job of policing its platform, and Twitter Feminists harass people online in lieu of engaging in genuine activism.

Is there a list of "acceptable opinions" to express on Women's Day, and would you care to share it?

If she wants to use her right to thank the men who fought along side for equal rights then she should be allowed to do so.
Like, there's no downside to her tweet. None.
How anyone could get something negative out of that is beyond me.

Because hundreds if not thousands literally went to Twitter on Womans Day to actively shame men and talk about how useless they are. How anyone could take an opportunity on Womans Day to belittle and insult others instead of propping up and championing women is beyond me. But alas we have another forum with thousands whos mindset is exactly that and will bully you until you agree with them

Lol, twitter outrage.

Why does the media still give a fuck what some random attention seeking nobodies on Twitter say.

There are always twits that will attack and harass just about any tweet in order to get attention for themselves.

Report them and move on. Don’t give these idiots the attention they clearly crave.

Im addressing the media mainly, plenty of people new to Twitter might get legitimately hurt by these harrassing tweets but the media by now is well aware that twitter outrages mean jack shit. They just report on them for the clicks.

Bet your ass if the people making death threats were male and not feminists the comments here would not be so dismissive.

This is what that bill Maher thread is talking about. 100s of tweets out of millions of twitter users is a drop in the bucket.

The absurdity of the Twitter reaction to her statement is in it being an attempt to silence/ostracize/shame her for how she's electing to use her voice in the public forum as a woman on Women's Day.

It's very important to take a step back and think on what concepts like empowerment and personal agency really mean, functionally, because they don't mean deciding what the "correct" way for her to tweet is and exerting authoritarian pressure on her to conform to what your answer is when she has her own thoughts and feelings she's attempting to post on the world's shittiest invention. Change the framing here but preserve the core assertion, and the bolded can just as easily become: "well, no matter how good her intentions are, she has ovaries and should be putting them to use at home making babies instead of working at Blizzard or making statements on Twitter."

Her tweet was an innocuous expression of personal sentiment. No one else needs to share the same sentiment for it to be just as valid. We can respect her, and Women's Day, by affording her the ability to express it in peace.

Could this be the work of the anti-woman terrorist group known only as Gamergate? 🤔
