Massive Data Breach at Facebook: Reactions

Not at all. You made the initial statement, my friend. I hope you are basing it on something and not just thin air.

You have nothing to say but let me entertain you.

Clinton had a massive political career which included victories such as a Hamas/Israel ceasefire, the Iran Nuclear deal, helping save the Turkish-Armenian accord. She co-sponsored many acts from ones that promoted democracy in Congo, to the reconstruction of Iraq. She was invited to work on the impeachment staff during Watergate, was named twice as one of the Top 100 lawyers in the US in 1988 and 1991. Her Clinton Healthcare Initiative, was the first step that lead towards ACA. She was the first woman to run for elected office and win in the state of NY. As secretary of state, she visited 112 countries. That's before even running for president.

Now you tell me why Donald Trump is more competent for office than this woman, and you tell me about the video. You know the one where the Russian linked firm literally talks about manipulating elections? The one that stole the data from Facebook to influence Trump voters? The "persuadable". That's what they call you.

Thank you for listing your reasoning.

Literally every single point you have there is disputed. I won’t list the arguments as this is really off-topic, but, they are online if anyone cares to look. I could list them, but we will honestly go back and forth and further derail the thread. So, we will agree to disagree.

As for your last paragraph. I never mentioned Donald Trump. I was challenging your notion that Hillary Clinton is competent to run a country. I am not American and I did not vote, so unfortunately for you I am not one of the “persuadables” or a “deplorable” for that matter.

I just observe from afar and come to my own conclusions. Like, I wouldn’t let Hillary Clinton run a high school cafeteria, for instance.

Hillary lost to Donald Trump in an election, blowing what should have been the biggest layup of all time. Defending her competence to do anything after that seems Sisyphean in the extreme.

lol. no, actually this type of "PC culture" you claim is non-existent in this forum as your comments are outlandish, degrading, idiotic, and trash. You apparently don't know how to tell us an actual joke without us seeing your true red, blood colors.

So? I am on the right so that means I am an idiot and trash? Please do tell

What evidence do you have that she is competent?

Her...entire career? I mean you may disagree with some of her actions but she was knowledgeable on foreign policy. Put aside whatever beef you have with “libs” and at least be a rational actor. Asking evidence for her competence is an absurd question. It’s like asking evidence of McCain’s competence even though I am not fond of his voting decisions.

I’m honestly amazed that people are actually surprised by this. This is Facebook’s entire business model.

There have been SO many warnings over the years that stuff like this was going on.

Did anyone see the channel 4 exposé on YouTube? Pretty intriguing stuff, unsure how it directly related to trump - the guys seem confident that they meddle in every election, maybe I'm dumb but I wanted the documentary to be longer.

Russia investigation is dying down with no evidence Trump is a Russian proxy president so the main stream media needs another excuse as to why Hilary Clinton lost to him, completely ignoring that every campaign in the last decade around the world would have used similar strategies to get information on their constituents.

There's another video. The now fired CEO admits to having met with Trump multiple times and they were behind Trump's digital and television campaign. He literally admits to breaking many election laws, on tape from donation limits to coordination. Which then leads to this. He also says that he was questioned about his ties to Russia, and how the Republicans who questioned him didn't care, but the Democrats grilled him for 2 hours.

There is nothing absurd about it unless you are blind. She was a terrible candidate. She lost an “unloseable” election and she should go away and fade into obscurity for the good of her party.

But, she refuses to because she is arrogant and petulant. Like a child.

The same thing happened in 2012 and 2014, look at the tone of this article for example:

Obama, Facebook and the power of friendship: the 2012 data election

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2012/feb/17/obama-digital-data-machine-facebook-election

Only now that it's linked to a Trump campaign It’s a vast conspiracy theory involving Russia.

People need to wake up and realize they are being manipulated by the media. Facebook has been selling user information since 2007, its abhorrent but it’s how they are a billion dollar company.

I still have a Facebook account though I haven’t posted anything to it in 7 years, information is power and politicians of all ideological camps will stop at nothing to harvest it.

Bu bu bu Obama! Ben Ghazi! Notice how this was admitted and out in the open? Months before the election? Notice how Cambridge Analytica is under criminal investigation and it's CEO sacked after stealing the data? And not asking people for it like the Obama team did? Notice how both things have fucking NOTHING in common?

How about we talk about how CA's CEO openly talked about breaking election laws with the Trump team instead of bullshit false equivalencies? You know, the guy with ties to Russia who admits it openly and was questioned for it?

You seem to be getting emotional with your response, calm down.

Both campaigns asked users for their information, the only difference between CA and Obama’s data collection is that people agreed to share their own and their friends information for use with Obama’s campaign. In the case of CA they were told their data collection was to be used for academic purposes. However BOTH campaigns harvested information from the primary users friends without their friends consent or permission.

So you are telling me you are ok with your information being harvested without your consent or permission?

Yep. Still dodging the questions.

And doubling down on the false equivalency.

I’m posting in a thread about Facebook data breach and how this is nothing new. I’m not interested in taking your bait and engaging you in an argument about Russian conspiracy theories that will do nothing more than waste my time.

This has now gone way further than a data breach. There's a reason why CA is falling apart, and are under UK and US investigations. You cannot ignore the video footage and dismiss it as a conspiracy theory.

It's freaking VIDEO.

Now what's the next step in your master plan?

One of those things is worse than the other and I'm not sure why you're equating them. I feel this has been spelled out in a pretty straight forward manner and people are still going out of their way to make nebulous points about how Obama did similar. There are tons of articles coming out on this from all manner of sources and they're all pretty damning.

Edit: Oh look who was directly involved with CA and their data harvesting

Bannon oversaw Cambridge Analytica’s collection of Facebook data, according to former employee

Wow what a shock! Steve Bannon of all people.. why the hell would Steve Bannon want information on how to get a right wing politician elected..?

Because Steve Bannon ties this directly to Trump's campaign. They can't play it off like this was some rogue group doing its own thing. Not too mention if Bannon lied about this to Mueller his ass is grass and yet another can of worms is opened up for Trump and his cronies.

Well when you lay it out like that who am I to argue!

I don't get the controversy here. Who in their right mind doesn't know that Facebook sells/shares your info? All of the big sites do this, it is usually how they make money.

Maybe someone can explain this a little better, but didn't that firm just use Facebook to gather data as many other firms do? Is the problem that it was used for this election? I believe this practice has been in place for at least 10 years now, so how is this news?

Lol at people thinking somehow Trump will go down for this. Dude is the Teflon Don, this is literally nothing. But let's see what happens. Seems to me the company was being much more shady than this administration.

If people really cared about their personal information and internet footprint they would have been using TOR (with flash disabled) or Brave browser with Duck Duck Go to surf the internet, they’d also have privacy extensions installed and be using a VPN that doesn’t store IP logs. They shouldn’t have a Google account or Facebook account and should be using a self-destructing secure SMS service. Movie/show downloads should only be done through a Usenet service that guarantees IP log deletion.

If they are not using these methods to hide their online presence and are only kicking up a fuss now that their information was sold they are hypocrites who are just jumping on the anti-Trump band wagon.

Look I don’t like my data being sold, but we know it’s happening everywhere, often without our consent (or likely with our consent per the 15 page TOS legalise we all ageee to without reading). Welcome to the internet. Facebook isn’t the first doing this and they won’t be the last. It’s a big reason why my activity on Facebook has been minimal for years now.

All of that said, I have a hard time taking the outrage serious that after YEARS of this sort of data mining going on, including political campaigns, without a peep from the media. Now that Trump is tied in, people are going nuts. People honestly believe other political campaigns, both Democrat and Republican, haven’t had shady organizations like this lurking in the background doing nefarious things?

I don’t give a crap about obama, I don’t give a crap about trump and I definitely dont give a crap about what political party is using shady tactics to one up the other in the US (both do it)..
What I do care about is that hopefully something will be done now where it has hit the main spotlight.. and hopefully it won’t die out.. but unlike the masses I still remember the Panama papers and the NSA data farms.. I’m afraid this will just be this years outrage until everyone has forgotten about it in a week.. the incompetence of the media to stick with a story and follow up on it for more than a month, before the new big thing hits.. is really a sad state we are in.. the ever growing competition for clicks is really disheartening..
I wish that there was a way for news outlets not to have to be so competitive in creating profits.. that they could actually follow a story to the end.. we would be so much better off than this tabloid outrage reporting pattern..

you should definitely care about what FB and these cretins did to the political landscape as they changed politics and the rulers in MANY countries outside of the US, and what they did here in the US was ILLEGAL

Sorry I might not have been too clear in what I meant.. but it’s exactly what you are saying that concerns me.. not who did it first :)
Apologies for the confusion:)
I don’t play that team game, where it’s apparently more important who did what first, than trying to stop it from happening again :)

Anything to back that up? Other that a couple of GIFs? That have nothing to do with leadership qualities?

Especially in a thread talking about actual video evidence showing the Trump campaign's corruption with Cambridge Analytica?

'Breach' implies some kind of unintended consequence.

Facebook has been selling your personal information before it was highly profitable. This is why my total number of Facebook accounts = 0.
