I think the most fun I had in this was last night and only because a guy called me a racist name and then proceeded to say he hoped I died in real life. I accidentally blew him up and sank the boat by stabbing an explosive barrel. I stayed with that crew until we got some reward.

But man, what a disappointment of a game. Is there any more than 3 enemies in this game? Skeleton, snake and squid?

That's it for enemies, 3 variations of skeletons, named skeletons, snakes and some tentacles.

Actually, there are FIVE variations: normal skelly, skelly wearing blue bandana, golden skelly, blue glowing eye skelly, and blue bandana skelly covered in seaweed!!!

Actually, I don't know how different the last one is. Blue Bandana is tankier. Golden skelly can't be killed by melee until you throw water on them, the blue glowing supposed to be weakened by light or something.

Yeah ... spent 30 minutes with my son collecting some chests. On our way back to outpost and another 2 man sloop engaged us. They boarded and we managed to kill them, then we tried to flee but they kept chasing us. Literally all over the map. Eventually they killed us and when we respawned our ship was sunk. Son quit in disappointment, I carried on. Another player joined my sloop. Didn't type chat or emote, but hung out. I was collecting chickens. After a while he decided to shoot my chicken and then drop the other cage overboard.

Great fun.

I feel like this game was made for me and I love Rare's style but I'm more of a solo gamer even in the online realm and I get the impression this game is only sustainable in a group setting.

How is the auto-group feature? Would it be possible for a solo pirate to jump into rando groups and still have a great time on the regular or is this more of a knit-group you need mics for to really have a chance.

I am also mainly a solo player and the game doesnt cut it for me either playing solo.

I have tried 3 or 4 times going in solo with random groups and twice I was voted into the brig as soon as I got logged in so hope your luck will be better then mine.

I've been playing a decent amount. I enjoy the game despite the long list of things I wish were in it.

I got a little annoyed by some of the bugginess, though. It crashes all the time on my AMD GPU, and I once turned in an 8 chest haul that gave me reputation but didn't give me any gold.

Hmm well I can't be for sure, but when you don't get gold right away, it's usually because the servers have problems and will take a while to give you your gold. Stupid, given that this happened in the beta.

I had once seen a streamer get his gold 4 hours after he turned in his chest in the beta lol.

I don't know. I really want to like this game but more often than not, I'm grouped with crewmates who don't have mics or seem to have some type of hidden agenda I'm not privy to.

I was placed as the 4th guy on a ship but there happened to be a "non" crew member with white name tag(crew members names are in green) on the ship with the crew while I spawned in.

As soon as I spawned in, the other 3 crewmembers took the loot they had gathered dumped it overboard while I was trying to figure out what was going on, (again, nobody would talk on mic) then
they all went down below and blew themselves up and started to sink the ship. The non crew member "Jack" took tried shooting me and took the last chest and went to the island to stash it.

I chased him trying to snipe him but couldn't hit him and he closed in on me with his blunderbus and ended me.

I suspect this was an elaborate "next level" troll and that "Jack" was actually part of their crew. I got pissed off and logged off the game. Of course, the other 3 crew members could then "respawn" and get their loot with Jack knowing where all the loot was(it's online persistent)

Also, I'm beginning to see the complaints that the game now seems just a big "fetch quest" where you go island to island, get animals or chests and turn it in for gold to buy super expensive cosmetic items.

Glad I didn't buy the full game. As soon as my game pass runs out, I'm done with the game in it's current state.

sea of thieves is a story about lonely pirate took highly seas without crew and doing treasures in an island...I will give an average review of this adventure video game.

One of the problems of this type of games that they are solely depends on other people in order to have fun. These type of games needs to be played with actual friends but the problem is most my friends have their own lives so its hard for us to organize get-together, maybe once in blue moons we could this. This why MP only games is never worth it for me.

If this type of games MS is gonna focus on then there is nothing for me to forward to their E3 this year.

It seens to be one of those examples where it's simply required to play with friends. Welcome to online gaming where team work is key. Worked well in 2002 - 2007/8.

I wish it would say this is in the description or system requirements.

I don't think it's necessary to play coop, but, of course, it's boring enough as it is without content. I've seen solo play streams work well, and it could be more fun because you're doing everything on the sloop ship. It would be too hard to fight a 4-man though.

Not like it's a big problem because the servers are terrible now, so player's are barely getting on with each other.

I’m really starting to think the Xbone has the worst exclusive software library of any major console like ever that I can remember in my 25 + years gaming. Be thankful for third parties. This game is an embarrassment

The Xbox One is a total disaster and I'm not trying to be a fanboy, I used to love Xbox, so I say this as a former fan, but Xbox jumped the shark and it's never recovered, I don't really know how anyone could objectively say the One isn't the console struggling the most this gen.

Literally the only exclusive the One has that isn't also on PC that I would want to play is Sunset Overdrive and I'm frankly surprised it never got a PC port.

Anyway as for Sea of Thieves I like pirates and the cartoony artstyle vaguely reminds me of these Fisher Price pirate toys I played with as a kid, so that's nice, but with no real story or goal to work towards or any real loot, I fear playing it would start to feel like wheel spinning after a while and there's just too many other games I want to play to waste time like that, plus the 60$ is way too steep.

But I'll keep an eye on it, maybe as it gets more content I'll give it a try.

This game has or had the potential to be amazing but it really is bare bones which is so saddening. As others have said, getting lost players back into the fold is usually very tricky.

The graphical style in this game is stunning....The sea,the sun, the lighting.

I'm still having some great fun experiences. 4 of us took down an outpost last night, took ages and lots of cannonballs and then rolls in a fresh galleon, sinks us as we move the gear to our ship and then a game of cat and mouse ensues. They want our remaining bounty but we won't give it up.....

Sea of Thieves is really disappointing. They got me to sign Gamepass tho, so it's a win for them. Hopefully State of Decay 2 will be a great game.

I agree. MS just doesn't seem to be having many first party "must play games". If I owned an Xbox One X right now, I'd probably just be using it for my 4k/HDR blu-ray movie viewing and
that's about it. When "backwards" compatible titles are one of the top selling points of the system(which is a very strong machine) it's a very telling sign IMO. I think they need to nail E3 this June
for Xbox One X or people are just gonna flock to Sony/Nintendo. I personally like all the companies and wish them all luck.

Don't want to derail the thread as Sea of Thieves is definitely a graphical tour de force but it's ust coming up "short" for me in terms of playing with randoms and questionable missions/quests.

Edit: I'm playing "Sea of Thieves" via Game Pass on PC for $10 a month. Once my free 14 day trial is over and they take their ten bucks, I'm cancelling and will then wait on reviews for "State of Decay 2"
before jumping into that one.

I had seen that happen before too, so I wasn't too worried. But I logged off and came back about 24 hours later, and the gold still wasn't there. It's not like the gold is all that important, but it was really annoying losing that haul just because of the servers being wonky.

I'm confused why you think backwards compat games are a top selling point when every third party game looks better on the One X.

Welp, I really wanted this game but I’ve fallen victim to too many of these games lately that shouldn’t be sixty dollars for what is a shell of a game. After reading the reviews I think I’ll wait. I’ve seen pretty much the same thing in every stream I’ve tuned into. Such a shame in the amount of time the video game has been in development that this is all we have. People shouldn’t have to wait weeks/months for more DLC to make the game feel more complete for the marked price. Maybe I’ll try it once a more complete edition is out with a reduced price.

Even if I like the game a lot, I don't see a good reason to buy it full price anyway. Unless you reaaaally trust Rare or are sure you'll be playing this for years, it makes much more sense to play it through Game Pass. For $10€ you can easily get enough fun in a month, and decide afterwards if it's worth playing longer. And as a bonus you get access to the other games of the service too.
The game even makes it easy to jump in and out at will, since progression won't break the balance between players, so you can cancel and reactivate your account whenever you get tired of the game or want to go back to it.

Quantum Break was a good game yes. Ryse combat was repetitive as hell but fun to watch.
They were both repetitive. One was a generic cover shooter with time powers and the other was a generic hack and slash. The difference is that ryse's campaign was beautiful and somewhat engaging and it co-op survival mode was fun to play. I gave up about a third of a way into QB because it was just...so boring.

Those two aside, despite the divisive communities, halo 5 and gears 4 werent bad games, just average if not slightly-subpar sequels to their franchises (mcc was a mess though. And people seem to forget that gears ultimate edition exists and is a a good hd remake)

We also got rare replay and killer instinct. So personally to people who say xbox has no killer exclusives is just flatout hyperboling, but i will say it could be much better than it is. Last year the only unique exclusive that comes to mind is cuphead. Forza 7 got shat on for its MTX's and halo wars 2 was a mediocre sequel to a underrated spinoff. And it sounds like we arent getting a halo this year so everything i guess is on SoT, SoD2 and i guess CD3? Yikes.

Lets face it while we're here. Fable legends and scalebound were given painless deaths atleast instead of being released as mediocre exclusive fodder for those waiting for the usual xbox affair (and i do mean mediocre. Scalebound looked meh and legends was meh in the beta)

The more I play the game, the more and more disappointed I become. :/ The XB1X version has some real issues too.

Been playing solo, galleon of griefers chasing me down, not sure how as sloops were supposed to be faster, angling the sails and still getting caught. Killed me, joined the game and there they are again chase me down, I do a sharp turn and they follow me again, still manage to chase me down, so I beached my ship and jumped off. They came around the island and while I'm hiding they start shooting the shit out of my ship, then the mermaid arrives, I guess they saw him as they were hanging around, then all of a sudden they just sank, guess they hit some rocks. Fuck them French pricks. Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me.

I think this is the best designed game I've played since Obduction, and I expect to get 60-80 hours out of it purely from the fun of the shared world experience, with no elements of peer pressure or gambling mechanics. It fits perfectly between battle royale games which I find to be too slow-paced to be a fun action experience (I'll take 2016 Doom multilpayer for that) and too short to be a compelling social experience. And Sea of Thieves is a big improvement in risk/reward mechanics and pacing over the other multiplayer games I'd compare it to like GTA V or Elite Dangerous.

I just went and checked a fort attack. It was mostly out of curiosity, since I'm playing solo on my little sloop and expected to find a bloodbath on site. I arrive and see 4-5 others sloops parked near the fort. I go hide mine at the other end, in a blind angle from the cannons and enter the fort, to find all those solo pirates cooperating to fight skeletons. I join them, in the end it's the boss captain against me and a female pirate. We kill him together, I let her take the key and everybody lines up peacefully in front of the treasure room. I was standing a step behind in fear of a backstabber, but people just grabbed what they could and went back to their ship, thanking each other while sailing away. Quite nice in the end. ^^
(I didn't get much myself, a box of tea and a trinket, but I wasn't going to rush for the big rewards when I was late to the party).

This game has plenty of legs to become a classic and even if the content available is just okay I’m sure they will evolve on it plenty during the next few months or even years.

Warframe is the best example here but it will all depend on how Rare is quick to push constant updates to keep the experience fresh.

It's really not up to Rare in this situation. The difference between something like this and Warframe is this is owned by Microsoft, and they released it as a AAA console game, which is a heavily front-loaded business model. If it's not making money, Microsoft may not give Rare the chance to give the game long-term support.

A game is only a real "exclusive" if you can only play it on the Xbox One, so stuff like Killer Instinct or Cuphead does not really count since you can also play it on PC.

I guess they are exclusives within the console realm, but so many people have gaming PCs these days that I think you can't really count it out, PC is simply part of the gaming landscape along with the consoles, the two aren't as separate as they used to be, so if a game is on both Xbox and PC it's a multiplatform game, not an Xbox exclusive.

Curious, does that mean Last of Us (also on pS3 obviously) and Killzone Shadowfall are not ps4 "exclusives" anymore since I can stream em on PC?

As we navigate through life, sometimes we encounter a sea of thieves. They'll waste your time and take your money if you let them.

Don't let them.

I mentioned this before but theyre only on pc via windows 10 store. Theyre still part of the xbox ecosystem which seems to be what MS wants (cuphead however is on steam. But thats the only exclusion that comes to mind)

PS Now streaming is a bit of a grey area. You don't own anything you stream. You could at one time play Red Dead Redemption on the Vita, but that doesn't mean it was on the Vita. Because once Sony pulled support for the Vita none of those games on PS Now could be played again. So yes, those games are still exclusives on the PS3 or PS4.

Even if Microsoft pulled The Windows Store offline, I could still play Forza Horizon 3. Why? Because it was actually released on PC.

They are MS exclusives or Xbox console exclusives.

All MS games will release on PC from now on. There's no such thing Xbox only exclusives anymore. I personally not a fan of this Playanywhere coz it affects hardware install base of consoles. If there are less people on Xbox then it will directly affect my experience coz I will not able to find enough players online to play with and my console will not get enough support from 3rd party devs. I will not get games like Nier, Hell blade nd all.

If install base is strong then Xbox will also get these niche games like Nier, Hellblade, Nioh nd all.

I still think this game looks badass and I don't even own a PC or Xbox. I don't know what's wrong with me....

Let's just call it like it is. A MS game, so it's always going to face an uphill battle due to the lack of leniency and good will that PlayStation will garner.
