Captain Marvel Official Trailer

That is what I was saying. It was not because it was a good movie but because of the message about it. If you would just get rid of all this political part was it still a good movie or was it just a decent Marvel flick?

To me it was a good movie. You have a story about a newly crowned, young King who wants to hold onto tradition and keep Wakanda hidden like his father before him ... and the woman he loves wants to help the world. Then his cousin, whose father was killed by the now deceased King T'chaka, wants revenge and has been planning it for most of his life. He finally gets it but his anger has no limits... He wants to hurt and enslave the world and Wakanda is the only nation that can allow him to do it. Then in the end, the protagonist and antagonist fight for the heart of their country.

The motivations of the characters, the action (other than the horrid CGI in the last fight), the costumes, the acting, the humor, the emotion... Yes, it was a great film. Otherwise, I wouldn't have felt so emotional.

I didn't like After Earth with Will and Jaden. It was horrible with horrible pacing and bad acting from Jaden and Will had nothing to do. Very few majority black cast movies move me like Black Panther did.

Also, what politics are you talking about? That it was a majority black cast? I didn't see a political message that anyone would be against.

I guess you do not follow social media then? There were also a wide range of known critics who called everyone racist who did not like the movie. It was a very hostile and toxic situation. On Era you got banned for saying not liking the movie as well. And the political message was ostly fabricated by others and not the movie itself in the end (as far as I know)

And it was not that people were against it they just were annoyed by ther people hammering it in and calling everyone racist who did not agree with them.

Black Panther was as mediocre as a Marvel movie gets. None of the humor landed and the story had so many holes in it. Sometimes you can turn your brain off during these things, but the story issues were so blatant and the characters were so unlikable that it was hard to do this time. I haven't seen Thor 2 in a while, but Black Panther might have been about on that level of movie competency.

Oh ok. I see. You actually took time to explain something no one else has even tried... I appreciate that. And it makes sense what you said.

Before, all I got was "SJW! Why aren't there more white people?! What if a white guy was Black Panther?"

Sadly it is a very common tactic these days to silence people not liking something.
The same did happen with Ghostbusters 2016 as well. The moment you thought it looks bad and that you have no interest in it you were called a sexist. Hell they even tried to lynch James Rolfe for saying that he does not want to watch it. These progressives even went to far and called his wife a golddigger....

Last Jedi was another of these cases. And in the Gaming World the last one was Battlefield 5. I know i spend to much time with this shit and it probably makes me less interested in something I would have watched or played normally but sadly this is something I probably can not escape anymore since I am too deep into this shit^^

Is this character so famous and loved or is it because of the ending of Infinity War? But 20 million in a day is huge^^

Do what I do... Stay away from threads, news, etc talking about these things. I HATE opinion pieces trying to "call out" folks for not liking something.

I didn't like the new Ghostbusters movie. I expected it to be a continuation of the original... Not that half-baked whackiness. I didnt like the way Leslie Jones's character was written or portrayed (I was expecting a female Winston... An engineer or something)... I didn't like the ghost taking over Thor thing... I didn't like that Bill Murray's character was such a douchebag... I didn't like how they treated Melissa McCarthy's character either. Actually... I didn't like how ANY of the characters were written. They all seemed like one note jokes. Kate McKinnon was good but I wish they gave the women something more. Not just parodys of female nerds and stereotypical loud black woman.

ETA: I'm probably gonna sound like a hater for saying that. But I wanted that movie to be better. I didn't care it was an all woman team. I just wanted non-stereotypes and non-parodys of nerds and geeks.

And you're not racist for not liking Black Panther. As long as it's not because it's an majority black cast film. LOL!

ETA part deux: I liked SOME of Last Jedi. I have no problems with Rey, Finn, Rose and the others. What I DID have a problem with was the pacing and plot. Why keep that info from Poe? Why did Rey have so much hope that Kylo could turn? Why did Kylo forgive Rey?

Marvel has become a cultural phenomenon, this is no real surprise

It's unbelieveble how they managed to achieve this level of notoriety

No joke though...that marvel title card is some of the most hype things I've seen in forever.

Whenever it pops up on the screen in the theater I get goosebumps.

I think the infinity war ending was a lot more effective than people give it credit for. I had so many of my casual MCU friends who know almost nothing about comics asking and talking about Captain Marvel after it came out.

Wait so Captain Marvel is now a guy? I thought it was some Muslim women which name I forgot...

Oh boy. The name Captain Marvel belong to a Superman rip-off character (though a little more fun) named Billy Baxton in the 1940's. When Captain Marvel's popularity started to top Superman's DC sued them, again because it's a really obvious rip, and won the case. When the company could no longer use the Captain Marvel character, they went out of business and Marvel took that opportunity to create their own Captain Marvel, who was an alien dude from the Cree army, and copyright the character. However, DC bought that company that still had the Trademark over the name Captain Marvel, which gave them all the Trademark of that Captain Marvel. While back at Marvel, their Captain Marvel's powers got transferred over to Carol Danvors aka Ms. Marvel. When Captain Marvel died of cancer, his name went over to, not Carol Danvors, but Monica Rambeau (who is the black woman you see in the trailer). She used the name when she was leader of the Avengers but then gave the name up when she retired and then Carol took the name Captain Marvel, which is the current iteration and who Brie Larson is playing. Back over at DC, having the Trademark meant that whenever Marvel didn't have a book or medium called Captain Marvel, DC could use the name on their book or medium. However, if Marvel is using the name Captain Marvel on something, then DC has to use the name Shazam on the medium, BUT the character can still be named Captain Marvel.

Basically, if DC wanted, in the upcoming Shazam movie, they can still call the character Captain Marvel, having the Trademark means Marvel can't do shit unless the movie was also named Captain Marvel.

Trailer seems generic, but I'm interested in how they handle this origin story. Seems like mixing the original Captain Marvel and Carol Danvers's origins together.

Let's see if this is as good as wonder woman.
This is the only reason this movie is being made. "Look at us we have a female lead too". But in this case they did it on the cheap with poor special effects and a boring expressionless lead actor who portrays a character most people never heard of. She's also a bad character to begin with who's part of the reason Marvel Comics are on the decline with their SJW propaganda crap. Jesus the actor Brie Larson is even a feminazi lunatic. What are you doing Disney? You were doing so well! This is the beginning of the end.

It's also interesting that skrulls are in play now meaning Disney is already utilizing their Fox purchase since Skrulls belong to the Fantastic Four license.

The whole concept of Wakanda is a bit of a bad joke really, i.e. even insofar as the fact "if" such a country did exist (it doesn't, never has nor never will) & it actually allowed blacks in the African continent to live in squalor for centuries (literally without civilization, even pre-colonialism) whilst themselves living in an utopian dream, then surely black audiences should have viewed them as utter f*ckwits/assholes/c*nts?

Imagine the whole of Europe or the USA is poor & backwards, with people living in misery, whilst one small nation sits on super-duper-tech & watches its neighbours eat sh*t & die? Yeah, that wouldn't sit well, at all.

I liked the trailer. But then again i don't expect much from marvel movies. I'm sure it will be fun for 2 hours and then i'll forget about it.

Hence, SciFi/Fantasy

It makes sense for them to be secretive. All these people coming to Africa to colonize it, taking its peoples as slaves, etc... Wakanda would be in a never ending war with the world

But like...that was the point of the movie? Did you watch the movie and the motivations of Killmonger in it? And the realization had by T'challa at the end?

A realization in 2018 that Africans were left behind by the rest of the world thousands of years ago? Wow, better late than never... I guess? Europe didn't invade Africa using force, FYI, no, some landed, found valuable resources based upon Europe's tech of the era & exploited them... whilst the locals were running around semi-naked with spears. The whole Wakandan thing was absurd, even insofar as African Americans were expected to see themselves as Wakandans based purely on skin color. That would be the equivalent of European Americans crying about the fate of Sokovia (a fictional central/eastern European state) in a prior Avengers movie just because they were 'white.'

I'm sorry, but the way certain people are pandered to is completely infantile.

Indeed Marvel Studios has done some miraculous branding building. People who don't know comics trust their content to be entertaining.

At this point, no matter how meh a trailer may look, I feel like MCU movies are immune to being a flop or critical dud. Even their worst films managed to still do very well at the BO and have gotten Fresh scores. If the day ever comes, it'll probably be at a time when Feige is retired.

Captain Marvel is gonna do VERY well on both fronts. I can even see it doing north of $1 billion WW. People expected Black Panther to do very well, but it completely exceeded people's BO expectations by a country mile. I think with the MCU's version of Wonder Woman, you're probably going to get a film with better structure and rewatchability, from a studio audiences love and trust.

Trailer is boring as shit. It relies too much on Samuel L my spirit animal. And he couldn’t save it from the snore fest.

Hoping it is actually better than it looks. They need to cut a new trailer ASAP.

Don't blame the direction of the movie and the trailer edits on Brie Larson. She was fucking amazing in Room. She's won a freaking Oscar and has shown versatility in different roles like Scott Pilgrim.

Blame the director after the movie comes out and it's like this the whole way through or the editor of the trailer. It's not always the actors fault when things come out like this.

Anyone who has seen Room knows she can fucking act.

Black panther was alright, its not one of the best. The start of the movie is so dark you can't see anything. Blade is still the best super hero movie with a black character.

Jared Leto won an Oscar, yet his Joker 'performance' in Suicide Squad is one of the worst on screen self-destructions I've ever seen. He looked like a meth addict tripping & acting weird (purring as well, I mean WTF?). Point being: Oscars mean diddly fuck squat in 2018. They've handed them out for all the wrong reasons in recent decades & we've seen countless witless idiots get the award for xyz reasons (usually because they kissed the right butts) & yet they're fucking shit actors as soon as they need to 'branch out' from their comfort zone. FYI, playing a 'superhero' is a lot harder than it looks because a few missteps can quickly turn the whole character into a bad joke (acting far too serious with bland delivery & getting their ass memed on the Internet). The directors of the movie are newbies as well with zero real experience.

I actually already find Brie Larson's face hilarious. Especially when she gets glowing eyes in the trailer. Marvel was also always saved (IMO) by its humor, i.e. whilst DC crumbled into an abyss of why so serious. Captain Marvel's trailer just looked iffy on that front. Oh & I'll be ultra pissed off if she defeats Thanos in the next Avengers. That would be the ultimate bullshit Deus Ex Machina.

Pleasing feminists is impossible.

I checked her Twitter. She's insane. End of.

It's a sort of conglomeration of far left extremist talking points & pseudo factoids worthy of the worse eras of religious fanaticism of the past. I could just picture this Melissa McEwan nutjob as a Christian fundamentalist puritan centuries ago. Look at her face:

tg-Qb9lu_400x400.jpg

It's the same zealous mindset & agenda driven aggression towards others... fuelled by her own stupidity, fear, cowardice, ignorance & brainwashing. She wants to find sexists (demons) however she wants, wherever she wants & whenever she wants in order to justify her own crusade against these new era devils. Just like those who were accused of being "heretics" based upon bullshit evidence in the past.

Counting spoken words in a movie trailer & reaching a "you're a sexist" conclusion based upon her findings is the epitome of the same illness. History repeats itself, under different colors & labels, but the horrible issues remain eerily similar.

Seriously the complete lack of expression throughout does make me wonder if she'd perhaps not be better off playing a Terminator. After the glorious success of Infinity War I do worry that Captain Marvel might end up being the weakest link.

She would make a good terminator, but just having her recently seen in Kong: Skull Island, she is capable of more than one facial expression.

I've re-watched the first Wonder Woman trailer from now two years ago, and the WW trailers are just so much better. I really don't know why they make her look like such a bore in this one. Is it part of being a her-o to look like you wait in line at Starbucks? In contrast, the WW trailer had a range of emotions from funny to tragic. The Captain Marvel trailer ranges from meh to duh.

Even before 2014, Marvel had received criticism for not having a movie with a female lead. Critics had pointed out Marvel refusing to create a Black Widow Movie. Now they have one at the worst possible time. And only now they are thinking of going forward with a Black Widow movie.
