Transcript from the article:

"Earlier this month, the Chinese government established its Online Ethics Review Committee, a group tasked with reviewing online games to establish whether they violate the country’s social and ethical rules. Of the 20 popular online games reportedly included in the first batch of reviews, 11 were instructed to take corrective action to address the committee’s concerns. The other nine failed the review entirely, and now seem to have been banned in the country."...

...League of Legends is joined by Overwatch, Diablo, and World of Warcraft in requiring “corrective action.”

...PUBG, Fortnite, H1Z1, and Ring of Elysium have all be banned for featuring “blood and gore.

...Paladins, has also been outright banned, for a combination of “overly revealing female characters, blood and gore, and vulgar content.”

...PUBG, League of Legends, and Paladins, Tencent has been included six times in the 20-game list. Blizzard and NetEase appear on the list three and four times, respectively.

I'm curious as to the validity of this just from personally I've got a few hundred hours into Paladins and there is no Blood and Gore. Fortnite is also in the same boat as listed with Blood and Gore when there is none.

PUBG has no blood. The little splats you get from hitmarkers can be turned green.

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
Some of those developers will bend over and release China versions like what happened with Rainbow Six.

I love how the titles says "China bans..." but the article says "[...]allegedly in the line to get banned" in additon to the table at the bottom with "Recommended Action" which means that nothing has happened yet.

Seems a bit hard to believe this gets actually enforced if its even true in the first place. There's too much money involved and no way in hell are those companies able to censor the games enough to satisfy these demands and maintain an actual user base. China's regulations tend to often be enforced arbitrarily so there's never telling what's actually enforced, and the government isn't exactly interested in elucidating its stances that probably change by the day. Not a very safe place to do business for western companies. Blizzard can kiss goodbye to any ideas it had about selling Diablo Immortal in China if this is true.

There are chinese games were you beat up women clothes off. Seems more like they want to make sure the popular trending games don't make too much money without THEM, getting a cut.

Thank God I don't live in that hell hole
Like the changes won't affect you too.
Developers will start designing their games keeping in mind China's market - which is huge. And do you think they'll design two different games for China and normal countries?

They tried to for Siege and the community answered with a pretty resounding NO! and they backed off

So they have destroyed the game industry in one country.

If gamers and gaming devs still don’t rise up and resist, we all better look for a new hobby and jobs respectively in the near future.

But.....Fortnite is really cartoony and goes out of its way to avoid any sign of blood or gore. Even when a character is 'killed'...it is animated to appear they are just teleported out of a simulation:

I haven't played Paladins, but it sounds like it is similarly non-gory.

Paladins is basically a F2P hero shooter similar to Overwatch. There is no blood or gore but as someone pointed out there are bones and skulls which is against a lot of the chinese guidelines apparently.

Read the first article at the top of OP.

This is what's bothering me. What if developers don't want to put up with the effort to have two separate versions of their games and instead we get one standardized version that abides by Chinese regulations?

Exactly.

Before calling them idiots, obviously they are doing this to protect their youth.

What is their education testing like compared to ours? How many graduate? How many commit violent crimes?

Sure it's censorship but is it working?

You’re ignoring their poverty line and how massive it is.

People calling them idiots are being facetious. I imagine you would agree.

But there is a lot about Zhongguo that is worth criticism.

For example, their simplification of language came from a widely disputed claim that "the language as it is is too difficult for the 'common people' and should be made easier."

Meanwhile, Xianggang (Hong Kong) and Taiwan are pushing relatively ~100% literacy rates, and China... not as good, though the former two use the 'more difficult' Traditional writing system (繁體字) versus the government instated Simplified writing system (簡體字).

While a comparison to the United States will undoubtedly give a different story, this is important for its own reasons. Given that this is essentially a great part of the Chinese culture (which stretches past the Mainland), I believe it serves as a good parallel for understanding the issue at hand. The government's opinion does not always do well for the people of China, as we can see by my previous detail.

I am not saying they do not have good intentions for their youth, though. For example, their ban on porn I think will do well for the youth. But not everything, I argue.

May be they have a problem with battle royale style games in general because they seem to be the hardest hit. This is from last year:
[...]the game's last-person standing, battle to the death-style makeup presents a "deviation" from the country's "socialist core values and traditional Chinese culture and ethical norms".

In turn, the Chinese content watchdog reckons PUBG is "not conducive to the physical and mental health of young consumers".[...]

PUBG faces China ban for deviating from 'socialist core values'

Also it seems a lot of those games have been marked for corrective action for having "distorted concepts of history and culture" whatever that stands for.
