“It Happens on PS5” - new promo campaign

I miss when Sony made surreal and trippy marketing. They used to have this abstract arthouse thing going for them. It wasn't just in their ads, but their identity overall.

They used to be weird, albeit memorable and made people talk. Modern day PS marketing is just... bland.

Bro, people shat all over that baby ad for PS3 at the time.

That unexpected catch video looks like AI in all the bad ways. Uncanny, uninspired, lacking proper context. I really hope this is not the kind of 'realism' this industry is going to strive towards. Looks laughably mediocre.

People get paid for this.... How did it get past the whiteboard?
They just get their job done of selling the console. 🤷‍♂️
Ads have always been largely shit, and the ones we post stand out precisely for being good or memorable.

A bunch of money wasted...

They should've had an ad showing all the top franchises on PS5, including all the MS games (Halo, Forza, Gears, etc...) and then say "It happens on PS5".

AI has destroyed everyones brains, good 3D artists can no longer get a job in the industry because their work looks like AI apparently

I mean, mediocre? really? it isn't supposed to be perfectly real, it's supposed to be very 'game-like', that's the whole point, and these would not be out of place in Love, Death + Robots

Isn't that what YouTube is for? you can look up any game there, and they do State of Plays constantly to remind us of what games are coming. This is in the same vein as 'Play has no limits'

It's like there's a just a hint in there of the old days of Sony ads but there's no soul, no distinct hook and no edge. They're afraid to alienate, offend or even be too specific, so they just end up being awkward, generic slop. The first one was merely ok, the rest were naff, with the last one being especially anticlimactic.

Me vs Neogaf again it seems, I think these are great

I don't love them, but I find it hilarious to tell the company that slaughters its primary competition over and over and is so far ahead this time that they vanquished a four TRILLION dollar company in this space....that its marketing is bad.

Is it?

Because they're making a metric assload of money.

I have just seen one of those ads on the street. What a waste of money.

I mean nowadays they have only one game a year to show to their customers. So they to need to be creative so show something else, right?

I just hope another big player (from China?) will compete against them. They really have become everything we were afraid they would turn into.

Still doesn't have the edge or weird surreal stuff they used to do...but better than some of the lower effort PS4 ads in the later half.

PS2 & PSP Era Sony were them at their best.

Thank fucking god we live in a timeline where PlayStation is sticking around forever. :messenger_heart:

We will never have the era of a David Lynch like figure directing video game ads :(
I have no love of Twisted Metal at all, but a trailer with the stupid clown car paired with Crazy Clown Time as a surprise announcement. Oh boy, that would be something.

PlayStation took a monumental wrong turn with the PS3 that's never been rectified.
It feels like Kutaragi quietly stepped down after the PS2 and his replacement screwed everything up.
Really? Are you talking about adverts? because this is what the thread is about, and you would be very wrong about that.....

even (although 'technically' not an advert.... ah, who am I kidding, of course it is)

And if you aren't talking about the advert but PlayStation itself then I'd say you are very wrong there also, PS5 is the most profitable generation for Sony ever, PS4 sold gangbusters and even PS3 righted the ship eventually and had some absolutely amazing games (starting new franchises that went from strength to strength, unfortunately some victims along the way also such as Resistance, I'd love a reboot or a brand new Resistance, more Resistance 1 than 2 or 3 though please even those were good games)

What happens? Honestly if these ads didn't have a PlayStation logo in them I wouldn't even be able to tell they're ads for PlayStation. I'm not sure if that's what you want in an ad. Then again, I never really understood campaigns like these.
