I don't care where (just far)

Apparently each episode is animated by different crews from different countries, according to Wiki.

18 episodes total

Drops on March 15th

What you think?

Chop me up into 18 pieces of JareSushi if old

I'm kind of getting an Animatrix vibe from this, and I can dig that. I'm looking forward to this.

This looks fucking insane.
I'm a big David Fincher fan and also enjoy the Cyberpunk aesthetic so will def watch this. I plan on getting really fucking high for it though since it definitely seems like the kind of show that will benefit from being stoned off my fucking tits when I watch it.

Only seen a handful so far. Early verdict: a crazy grab bag of good, meh, and cringe-y. Very uneven overall. Seems like it's mostly meant as a visual showcase / advertising for the various animation studios involved. Stories, dialogue, and voice acting take a back seat (like, far back ... back of the bus). I definitely appreciate the ambition and experimentation though, even if the experiments don't always yield anything useful. Spoiler-free impressions:

Beyond the Aquila Rift: dialogue and story apparently written by a horny 12-year-old who can't believe his luck at being allowed to swear. Visually, this makes for some impressive still shots. But animated, hello uncanny valley.
Three Robots: oh god the dialogue and voice acting *gun to head*
Sonnie's Edge: decent visuals, but feels like a long in-game cinematic for a grimdark Pokemon. Should come w/ vouchers for Doritos and Mtn Dew.
Ice Age: simpsonsdidit. Kind of a waste of Topher Grace and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, with awkward, wooden performances.
The Witness: visually stunning, absolutely beautiful. Definitely stands out from the rest.
Good Hunting: pretty good, some nice animu-ish animation and cool designs, but nothing groundbreaking
Helping Hand: not bad
Blindspot: cringey dialogue strikes again. Looks ok, no story to speak of, and feels like it ends prematurely, like a kid writing a story assignment five minutes before it's due and turning it in mid-sentence.

I'm definitely looking forward to watching the rest, just to find the other diamonds in the rough.

I just started watching this on a whim today, having never heard of it before, and this has been knock your socks off amazing so far in terms of short story or animation.

It's like the Animatrix but with no overarching connection aside from maybe the 'love, death and robots' implication in the title.

What's it like? A bit like of the best cg sequences from videogames with a range of sci-fi themes. The first episode is cyberpunk, 2nd is Pixar-esque comedic, 3rd looks like it uses some sort of 3D rotoscoping to look so realistic but the director says its all animated, 4th is some Blizzard Overwatch style story and art.

It's a damn good surprise to go from 'Huh, what's this? Odd title but I'll take a look' to 'Holy crap, what is this? Where did this come from? Must tell people.'

As with any anthology there's bound to be highs and lows but I really suggest giving it a look, especially if you enjoy animation or videogames. Plenty of violence, sex/nudity, and profanity at times so its not for general family viewing.

Animatrix was the first thing I thought of too.

I watched some of the first one yesterday. I was a bit annoyed by the “she doesn’t fight for money, she fights against the men who have wronged her” thing in the very first episode. Netflix still wants to milk any and all social justice concepts for everything they are worth.

Going to go back to it soon still.

Just finished the Anthology. The CG animation is so good I didn't realize the live action episode was live action until I recognized Topher Grace.

Even the poorest episode was still worthwhile to watch. Normally, I can tune out on my tablet if a show gets boring but these shorts keep you hooked. I don't think anyone could guess the direction Good Hunting would take from just the first minute. Good animation, voice work, plot variety, and interesting storylines puts it rightnup there with Animatrix and kind of reminds me of a modern Heavy Metal due to the R rated content that it doesn't shy away from.

Beyond the Aquila Rift
Zima Blue
Lucky 13
Good Hunting
The Witness
Suits
Three Robots
Sonnies Edge
Secret War

These episodes were all really good.

Zima Blue was the only one out of the bunch with anything interesting to say so I liked that one the best. Most of the others, while visually astounding, didn't leave much of an impression due to the poor writing.

Was expecting a bit more. From a technical point of view, the one with the stripper running around blew me away though.

Otherwise, a bit gratuitous/exploitative in terms of nudity and gore.

This thing has a score of 9.2 on IMDB and i just don't know why. I watched the first few episodes and while some episode are entertaining i don't really think it's that good. The art style of some episodes is refreshing though.

I'm not even bothering with a trailer. You said David Fincher and anime in the same sentence, I'M IN.

And as I typed this, I realized it's actually out, shoot, I guess I know what I'm watching next time I'm on Netflix.

Dang homeboy here basically sold me (along with David Fincher's involvement). I saw the Netflix preview trailer and was slightly intrigued.

wow 3 picks when i google the series.
What a world we live in when artists speak their mind and some salty person just writes up a clickbait filled blog about it.
I only posted it cause you should see how bad it is.

Zima blue has to be my fave one .
And the Witness is the best animated one.
I really hope we get more content like this in the future,
This series really felt like i was at a fancy restaurant and they just severed me a 18 course meal.
Pure bliss.

All right, finished em. These are the ones that stood out to me and why, no spoilers:

The Witness: looked amazing visually, great painterly / graphic style.
Zima Blue: another great visual style, very unique, and had some amazing shots where I said wow.
Fish Night: ditto.
The Secret War: this is what real-time AAA videogame graphics will look like in 10 years, is what I kept thinking throughout. Looked crazy, nice cinematography and style overall.
Lucky 13: I swear to god, for the first minute or so, I thought this was live-action footage with CGI on top, didn't realize it was all CGI.

Very hit-or-miss, overall, but since episodes are so short, I never felt any of them wasted too much of my time; if nothing else, they're all conceptually/visually interesting and I enjoy the format.

The best: Zima Blue, Sonnie's Edge, The Witness
The worst: Ice Age

Lol. There was many a Johnson to be seen. Its fucking poison over there. I tried ignoring posters and threads, but there's an infestation.
Back on topic- some of the CG and animation was flawless.

Finished it last night. I thought most of it was lame and preachy. The main redeeming factor was the animation, which was great. Zima Blue was the best of the bunch. The refrigerator one and the Beyond Aquila Rift were two of the other better episodes. "Alternative History" seemed like its only aim was to preach about the "evils" of nationalism at the end.

You can't do much in a 10m window, I get that, but the stories were pretty boilerplate. It was also disappointing that several of the stories were aimed at exacerbating the current "male versus female" conflict in our society, whereas good sci-fi should shine a light on where we need to improve. Sonnie's Edge was a checklist of teenage feminism porn-fantasy: revenge story for a rape, lesbian hero, "Fucking men" don't think women can fight as well as males, strong allusions to the rape during the battle itself, ultimately crescendoing in a victory for our heroine. 3 Robots was moralizing about climate change. Good Hunting was nearly as preachy as Sonnie's Edge.

I think this is series is a stellar example of what happens when you aren't able to build a good sci-fi story so the writers just filled in the gaps with virtuous social issues to make up the difference.

I think the Witness one was combination live action and CGI, like A Scanner Darkly. The animation looked too good.

I watched the first three of these shorts last night while I was incredibly high (strong dose of edibles) and the visuals absolutely blew my mind. I was a bit taken back by the amount of sex in each episode but I'm not really gonna complain about a bit of Cyberporn (it'll be a bit weird if there is that much sex in all of the episodes though).

I intend to carry on watching tonight but will not get quite as high as I was too high to really take it all in yesterday other than the stunning visuals. (I probably should rewatch these first three episodes again at some point also)

"The male gaze!". Fucking bunch of whiners. And most of the ones doing it then demand to see more penises.

I must applaud the artists in The Witness, though. The titty physics are sublime.

Was the witness fully animated or was it a mix of reality and animation? It was really well made.

I really enjoyed all of them except maybe the Hitler one. I actually skipped it after the first minute or two.

Can't wait for season 2.

I think most of these shorts are basically CGI demos, so naturally they will have bare bones plots, lots of action, and be "video gamey". I loved every one. The story adaptations like "Sonnie's Edge" and "Aquila Rift" were well chosen and there are TONS of others they could plump for future shorts. The best short stories have that nice little twist at the end. Not sure why folks are bemoaning the boobs but not the dicks. Seems like CGI allows for a lot more male nudity that actors are unwilling to do versus female actors showing breasts (which is basically a rite of passage it seems) exclusively in live action. I hope they have more already in production. Some of these looked like they were expensive and time consuming.

Honestly, it looked pretty good to me. So what sets the bar these days?

Can't really remember any realistic full CGI movie off the top of my head that shames this. Last one I watched was RE: Vendetta but this clearly smokes it.

To be fair, all the uber-real-looking shorts in this collection have some uncanny valley going on when animated, but Aquila Rift was the first one I saw, so that one stood out. Without watching them again, I remember Secret War and Lucky 13 looking better animated. The werewolf one also had some bad uncanny valley going on.

Hah, I just looked it up, and Aquila and the werewolf one were both animated by the same studio (Blur), which explains the similar uncanny. Lucky 13 was Sony Pictures, and Secret War was a Hungarian studio.

Oh yeah it's basically like a different drug. I'm pretty seasoned when it comes to edible weed but I hadn't done it for a while and this hit me hard. I was struggling to process new information of any kind but this show looked fucking insane. The visuals and animation really were spectacular.

I re-watched those episodes and a few more yesterday and I really like this show. I've enjoyed all of the episodes so far to varying degrees and agree that some of these deserve to be turned into full series of their own.
