In the end the changes were relatively minor.

The overall plot structure and story beats were mostly unchanged.

Seems pretty clear that Logan's script was so bad that it was unfixable, given the production timeframe.
Yeah, although someone must have signed off his story before he started writing that script, so they probably could / should have known much earlier how much of a trainwreck it was going to be. And they still could have fixed at least some of the
Blofeld
-related stuff within the timeframe but oh well.

The Revenant is loosely based on a well known historical figure. The events depicted in the trailer are exactly what he's well known for.

Being told the Titanic sinks is about the same level of movie spoiler.
Eh I guess, still though I didn't know anything about the real life character.
I hated it, too, but honestly, my favorite part of the movie was
in lamericain when bond sees the tape titled Vesper.
I didn't get that part, was it a reference to previous Craig movies?

so that bullshit
that Blofield is bonds brother is true?

NO Fucking WAY! why would you do that?

Just caught a matinee of this.

I thought it was pretty good. Like a 7/10. The story gradually became a mess towards the end, especially the M stuff, but the action was good and the visuals were great.

People blaming Mendes for the story...you know he doesn't write these movies, right?
I think this could have been a lot worse if it weren't for his sleek visual sense.

I thought Craig was good, too. He seemed a little jaded but I think that worked in favor of the character considering we've seen him in this role 3 times prior and he was supposed to be basically retired in the last movie iirc.

Seydoux was cliche but she acted well and damn she fine.

Waltz was good with what they gave him. The
brother relationship, and him being the ring leader of the villains from the previous movies
was contrived and stupid as hell

I think it tried to force an overarching plot to a set of movies that didn't need one, and had a clunker of a plot of its own to work through.

I can why it's getting such a mixed response. It certainly left me with mixed feelings.

I wish I could write the next James Bond set of films. I got ideas for three of them that build on top of one another.

I'll write them and leave them in my drawer.

At the end when
Bond came back to Q's workplace, I almost thought they were going to have the next 007 agent make his entrance (face not visible), taking over James Bond's job AND James Bond's real name as a now codename.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
I really like how they have given Craig's films their own continuity but they handled it very awkwardly in some parts of this movie.
I don't mind Blofeld being Bond's foster brother but they needed to set up the conflict between them in much more detail, the hand-wave of 'it was me all along' didn't really work because the Quantum/Silva stories never felt like they were being orchestrated to hurt Bond. They were missions that ended up hurting him not schemes designed for that purpose, the retcon didn't really work.

That said, I really want one last Craig film. This felt like an introduction to
Blofeld
not something you could end Craig's tenure with, it's just not James Bond enough.
He's not supposed to be happy
.

While the James Bond as a codename thing continues to be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard I think having someone else already in his place as 007 in the next film would be a really interesting idea. I don't know if you make them a SPECTRE agent undercover or a genuine good guy/girl for Bond to team up with but there is definitely something to do with that.

That would be a cool idea,
I really thought that we were going to see 009 in Spectre he was mentioned so many times. If they don't want to get too close to 006 from Goldeneye they could always introduce a female 00 agent who helps Blofeld escape. As limp as the ending to Spectre was, there is plenty of room to fashion a decent sequel.

would even say another way to die is a much better song. that's pretty annoying but at least the chorus is dope and it's not as dull as smith's.

The instrumental is nice tho... and I liked the way Newman worked it into the score at one point (the only piece of the score that I can even remember :lol).

yeah it works so well instrumental-wise in the film, but the song itself...scust

a shame the script is kind of lackluster in this movie. the globe trotting elements were the best of all craig's films imo. Especially having a car chase in the streets of rome in that aston martin and jaguar. Could have been an ad for a PGR game.

Too bad the chase itself was snooze city.

I thought this movie was shit. I found the trail of clues and names that Bond chases throughout to be poorly presented and not very thrilling.

I really dont understand why everyone thinks this stupid theory is real.

They don't.

See, the theory doesn't fit when applied to the previous continuity. So if you're thinking people pushing it are referring to that, then you're right, they're silly to think it could work. It absolutely doesn't...there. But this isn't in the previous continuity. And this continuity has not only allowed for the possibility, it's introduced elements that specifically enable it. In Skyfall, you SEE two MI6 members acquire their codenames (M & Q) and one former MI6 member reveal his name is, in fact, an MI6 applied codename (Silva).

The idea that the story could introduce a new character to assume the number 007, who would also take the name James Bond from his predecessor, isn't "stupid" at all. It's 100% more plausible (not just possible) now than it ever was in the previous continuity, and the new continuity has done nothing to shut the door on that possibility like the previous continuity did.

What about M being dead though?

What about M being dead though?

What about it? M died. M lives. Someone's named M now. You saw it happen.

That's how codenames work. M was Judi Dench. M is now Ralph Fiennes. They're not the same person. It's a new person taking the job and accepting a codename along with it.

"codename theory" as it applies to this new continuity simply suggests that should the character Craig's playing (James Bond, the first and only MI6 agent with that name) either decide to retire, or get killed, the next person to become 007 would then take the name James Bond along with it. That's all it means.

The fifth film will be a passing of the torch.

Whenever someone suggests the codename theory as a serious idea, the urge for me to punch someone in the face steadily increases.

Personally, I think the codename theory is a fantastic idea. I would love to see it implemented in future films. What a great idea that is.

Finally watched it today. Movie was garbage. Even worse than Skyfall. While I felt Skyfall lacked a good script polish, this completely fell apart after the first half. The build up was pretty good, but everything regarding the actual organization, the villain, and the master plan/motives was dog shit. Zero tension throughout the film. All that cinematography wasted again. Sam Mendes, get away from Bond. :(

Nah man, it's cat shit.
Because he's Blofeld. Because he has a scar. And a cat. And Bond makes a pussy joke. Because his brother is cuckoo, cuckoo.

saw spectre yesterday, and pretty much hated it from the word go.

literally the shallowest, by the numbers bond film in a very long time. bond himself was completely unlikeable, and daniel craig seemed half asleep throughout. not that i can blame him though, given the material. monica bellucci's character just vanished, and the second half was so disjointed. christoph waltz pretty much fucking wasted as well.

the opening felt enormously out of character for bond, and some of the green screen was... embarrassingly bad for a huge film like this.

sony and eon productions need to have a hard look at bond very soon. i don't even mean before the next inevitable reboot with a new bond either. if craig does another film they need to fix these issues sooner rather than later. step out of the comfort zone of international "espionage", stop making the films a giant advert for watches, cars, and suits, and focus on making a good film.

Just saw it last night. Man, I thought it was pretty fucking bad. The beginning got off to a pretty nice start, but everything after the
train scene
(my favorite scene, easily) was total dog shit. Dave Bautista was easily my favorite part of the film, and
he was gone halfway through just like that. Huge mistake.
I thought Christoph Waltz was SUPER weak. Maybe it was the writing, maybe it was him mailing it in, I don't know. But he made Mads Mikkelson and Javier Bardem seem that much better to me. And having just rewatched those two films last week, seeing Spectre gave me even more appreciation for both of them. Skyfall was much better than this IMO, if not just for the cinematography and first half, and even the vastly superior opening credit sequence. Lastly, this film went on about an hour too long. Getting through the last half hour was so brutal. I really wanted to enjoy this movie, I just couldn't.

Casino Royale >>> Skyfall >>>>>>>>>>>> Spectre >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> QoS

Just came back from seeing it. Fucking loved it, much better than QoS and skyfall, casino royale still the king though.

A lot more action than skyfall which is a good thing.

Only thing which was weird was monica's character vanishing. Thought she was going to play a bigger part.

I thought blofeld being bonds foster brother was a cool idea, but I don't remember such thing in the connery movies.

The Mexico stuff was great, the visuals, the music, all really done well.

I also admired that they fit the white cat in there, and the scar of course.

I did find it ridiculous though that blofeld had time to set everything up in the mi6 building though.

I enjoyed it. Daniel Craig is such a bad ass mofo. He has to be the best bond. I thought the villain was kind of pointless, we didn't even see much of him.

I wonder if Hollywood would ever dare reboot bond.

???

They did? Casino Royale, it was awesome.

Best since Casino Royale imo--fantastic fantastic imagery, most likeable Bond girl since Eva Green--just fantastic all around

The only thing that stopped it from being amazing was the villain. Once again, they fail to get anyone to match Le Chiffre. They just can't seem to get the villains right since CR.

I dont know, it feels very like Hollywood.

James Bond was written by a retired british agent, losely based on his own life. The titular character is a british agent working for the MI6 and the Queen, almost exclusively played by british actors(Ireland being the exception). The movies are produced by a british production company and almost exclusively directed by british directors.

Isn't the Mission Impossible film series basically Hollywood's Bond?

Yes. The movies and the TV series its based on.

I am aware of this, but I dont have the feeling that I am seeing a british agent movie when I watch the Craig Bonds - I feel like I am watching a typical Hollywood movie, maybe without the patriotism overdose it would have when it where 100% american, but I dont feel the difference that I feel when I watch shows like Sherlock or Dr. Who.
