Just an update - the home release here in the UK is next Tuesday. I think it's already out in the US?

Either way, I watched the film another time before it left cinemas last month. I have to admit, I went through a strange arc of loving it...then disliking it on my next view, and now I've come back round to liking it again. It really is a classic Bond in every sense for better or worse, and it's clear that the send-off of Craig in his next film will follow straight on from it.

Also, my inclusion of Terry Wogan in the OP was justified as I'm sure many of you are astonished (and upset) about.

Finally got around to seeing it now that it's on BD.

It really is a "Bond Greatest Hits" with nothing new to say. A decent enough movie, but a huge step down from Skyfall. If the awful Die Another Day never happened, I'd say this would have been the weakest movie since A View to a Kill.

Also proof that producers should never listen to whiny-ass old Bond fans who bitch and moan constantly about how it's not 1965 anymore. People who spent the last decade complaining about blond hair and irregularly placed gun barrel sequences.

In my life I don't think I've met a bigger James Bond than myself.

These Craig Movies look great but are dog shit. I'll re watch Moore movies before I ever rewatch the last two Bond Movies.

Re-watched this, and man so many plot holes and lack of character development.

The main villian motive doesn't make sense
James gets adopted by his dad, he doesn't like that gets jealous kills him, goes crazy and now some how wants to rule the world

Also david's character doesn't talk till right at the end and makes me wonder why not make him talk or not talk at all, it felt stupid to do it.

Also they destroy a train and nobody helps and they are still allowed on the train.. what!

So many dumb things but regardless I love james bond so i'll accept it :)

6.5/10

It sucked and is a huge disappointment. I can at least see myself watching trash like die another day again for fun before putting this back on.

I think I'm going to buy it to go with my collection but the only thing I actually want to watch is the opening scene, and not even for the scene itself but really to marvel at how long Mexico City was closed down for and the number of people that took part in it.

Haven't seen it since November, but from what I remember Waltz says
his jealousy over Bond is what drove him to kill his father, and then that first act of committing murder to get what he wants set him on the path of doing anything to get anything he wants; that it "freed him" iirc.

Watched it finally. Again proving that Casino Royale was Craigs best Bond film. The rest were riddled with bad writing and plot holes.

It was better than Skyfall though. God what a mess that was.

Mark Strong (apparently a close personal friend of Craig, who knew?) says that Craig has let on that he's done with Bond:

“Do you know what, I’d have loved to have played the villain in a Bond movie while Daniel was doing it because he’s a pal and that would have been great. But I think he’s come to the end of his Bond time and so it’s probably never going to happen, but that would have always been great.

...

“He has been [wonderful] and he’s loved it. But I think he feels like he’s mined it. He’s done what he wants with it.

“That point has come.”

Sucks that he had to go out with such a stinker

So the same way Brosnan left the role then.

I finally saw the movie and what a disappointment. It should have been the best one but they executed almost everything so badly.

The return of SPECTRE and Blofeld should have been the best Bond movie in a long long time. Instead it's up there with Die Another Day.

Eh Spectre aint great and it's disappointing but it's still a reasonably competent film, no where near that bad. Die Another Day is one of the worst, most cringe worthy films I've ever seen.

Well, no Bond actor has left the series on a high note.

I know i will get flamed, but Lazenby did. I know one movie, but what a movie.

Also I wonder if Craig is bitter that his run as Bond turned out be somewhat mediocre, (besides Casino of course) and the movies never lived up to the albatross that is Casino.

That movie was the promise of glorious Bond to come that never came to be. Yes, Skyfall, megahit but still...

Craig's Bond movies have been far and away the biggest successes, and he's cashed in god knows how much from them, so he can't be too bitter about it.

And personally, I don't think OHMSS is all that good or Lazenby is all that good in it, but I think most people are more aligned with your opinion on it than mine.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Wow, the hate for Spectre sure is strong in here. I thought the film was pretty good (not great). Sure there's a few small plotholes, but the movie has some nice action sequences and it was gorgeous looking too with a somber atmosphere and mood. Skyfall remains the best Craig Bond film though.

At least Spectre was better than that half baked unfinished mess of a film with a poor villiain Quantum of Solace.

DeathoftheEndless

Crashing this plane... with no survivors!
I loved Spectre. The action scenes are awesome and the humor is great. The only weak points to me were Blofeld being responsible for the last movies and Lea Seydoux's character.

The plotholes aren't the issue. The real problems are the contrivances and the tone.

And no it is not better than Quantum.

Yeah, for better or worse, the entire opening is the epitome of scale and excess. I truly wish it was in a better film :(

I finally got around to see it, thought it was pretty good, don't know where the hate comes from unless the hype was insane and they were expecting an Oscar contender

Won't believe it til Craig confirms it, but if so, I can only describe his run as the best of times followed by the worst of times. Or a tale of 2 eras.

...C'mon Daniel, do one more. What's the problem? It's not like you have anything else to do.

C'moooon, take one for the team.

Spectre was so boring I wanted to stop it halfway through. The script is also super predictable and there are scenes where you're left wondering why they even bothered. Spectre is one of the worst Bonds in recent memory, along with Quantum of Solace.

I meant to say that Spectre is to Casino Royale what Die Another Day is to Goldeneye. Nowhere near as bad but the cringeworthy joke in the Aston Martin with the 009 playlist, and weak Blofeld I am just disappointed.

Such a similar fantastic first film and constant spiral downward into mediocrity.

Maybe they should get Martin Campbell to direct the next few films(if Green Lantern hasn't scared the studio off).

I think Skyfall absolutely lived up to Casino. It's a film that just gets better with each viewing.
I'd imagine he's bitter how SPECTRE turned out tho...

I'm still pissed about how they used Belluci... Fucking disgusting

I liked it

*shrug*

It wasn't as good as Casino Royale, but no where near as bad as Quantum of Solace.

I actually prefer QoS to SPECTRE it has more energy, a better script (although that's not saying much) and DC looks like he actually gives a shit and is actually acting.

SPECTRE had to be one of the most laziest modern Bond movies, the lack of effort on the part of everyone is amazing. Think of all the actors in this then look at their performances. Sam Mendes seems like he was on autopilot not sure why Craig begged him to come back his heart obviously wasn't in it.

The action scenes were trash, the story in synopsis form sounded great. In execution it was appalling. I've seen more exciting Spooks episodes and they have a smidgen of the budget of Bond. Blofield was handled very, very poorly. Christoph Waltz gave a middling performance and his teetering very dangerously close to being a one note actor.

I will always rant about Bond as I've always been a huge fan. Each movie should be a great adventure instead they've become terrible non events.

Bourne came along and ate Bonds breakfast basically. This run of Bond movies excluding Casino Royale which was and will remain magnificent have just gone further and further downhill.

Now I hope the Barabara Broccoli gives someone like Joe Wright a call (after that PAN flop he can't be doing much) and tells him to bring some of the energy he got going in Hanna.

Thought this was ok. Not bad like Quantum levels but not better than say Skyfall. Just seemed like the Daniel Craig Bond checklist. Maybe it was because I was tired when I first watched it. Casino Royale still the best.

Yeah, how they used Belluci sucked. Worse that she was promoted as something special. "A Bond Girl older than Bond"

I wonder if there was more to her character at one point? I guess her payday was good, otherwise she should have thrown the script in the producers faces.

Nailed it sir
