First Lazenby quits after OHMSS, then they fumble things with the revenge story in Quantum, and now Craig is out after Spectre? Is it impossible to film the Bond revenge story from the novels?

It would be really cool to see the next Bond movies set in the 1950's with a proper four movie adaptation of the Spectre arc.

I would love to see them just actually do the Fleming books as they were. Even if it was just a series for Netflix or something. Probably too dated for the mainstream movie audience.
You Only Live Twice would be freaking nuts if they adapted that straight from the novel.

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Sad that Craig isn't coming back, he was the best James Bond.
In terms of Craig film rankings:

Skyfall > Casino Royale > Spectre >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Quantum of Solace

A Bond Netflix series, period piece based on the books, and then setting up a 1970s successor/continuity and then up to modern times.

Do it.

Gross.

I'll keep my head canon that the Craig films are their own thing, unrelated to the rest of the Bond films.

"Gross"
That's what I gather most would think, that's why I said the movie audience would probably have zero interest. Those who like Fleming's actual work and not just movies with the book titles attached would love it.
(Assuming such people exist anymore) I love the movies too, but there is a lot to explore in the novels.

Ill still take Craig over any of the Brosnan movies, and especially any of the writers for those god awful ones.

Purvis and Wade are still doing the Bond movies and they were responsible for writing Die Another Day and The World is Not Enough.

It's notable that on the two best Bond movies Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace they wrote them with Paul Haggis. Maybe he brought them out of their obvious comfort zone with each other? As seeing what they came up with on Skyfall and Spectre is depressingly hilarious.

That isn't head canon. That's what they are. They're not in continuity with the previous Bond films.

And if Craig is out, now we see if EON is willing to actually go forward with making "James Bond" a legacy title, or if they're just gonna recast and have whoever that actor is play the exact same character Craig did.

This is basically the only shot at it ever actually happening.

Haggis had a hand in Skyfall via early ideas/rough draft, but the point is still the same seeing how Haggis' undiluted input sounded more interesting than what we actually got.

And I say that as someone who enjoyed Skyfall.

I'm fascinated by it just because it's one of the few things the series hasn't done yet.

and the fact that it hasn't is probably one of the main reasons it has stayed as popular as it has done for over half a century.

limiting itself and betraying the source material is not the way to go.

betraying the source material is not the way to go.

Nobody involved has given a shit about the source material for more than 6 or 7 of its 50+ years, combined.

Yunno what'll be funny?

When Craig shows up for a cameo role in Kingsman.

Hell, that's gotta be the next step for that series, right? Putting actual Bonds in your Bond spoof?

Picture Brosnan, Dalton, and Craig in a quick little cameo role, pounding drinks and bullshitting at a table, giving Eggsy some side-eye if he wanders too close.

We'll see.

I will say, I'd be very surprised if Craig wasn't back for at least one more Bond. Broccoli and Wilson have made it very clear that they want him back, basically above all else. Given their reportedly good working relationship, I think it's quite likely that we'll see him back in the tuxedo for Bond 25.

Now having watched it this film kinda sucks. I felt like it was going to suck ever since they announced Sam Smith was singing the song, but you know, thought I would wait and see the actual film, but yea, wasn't that good.

At this point the series has this every other one being good thing going on now, to the point where the song gives away how good the film will be. Casino Royale had "You Know My Name" which was a really strong song which accompanied an amazing title sequence, the film was amazing, refreshing, and one of the best bonds. Then Quantum of Solace arrived and we got "Another Way to Die" which was just an utter trash song, like seriously shit, and the title sequence was also just as bad, women flailing around in sand.

We then get Skyfall, another strong song, a good hearty ballad from one of the biggest singers currently around, title sequence was good, bit less flailing women. The film also looked amazing and really felt like the sequel Casino Royale should have had. Now back to Spectre and "Writing's on the Wall" which again next to Casino Royale and Skyfall felt like the wet blanket of Bond themes. Lots of women flailing in fire for the title sequence, just wasn't that good.

The film felt hastily put together, compared to the story of CR it wasn't very good, and next to the beauty of SF looked boring. Waltz was meh, for the author of all Bonds pain he didn't really seem to do anything, the title sequence even had the ladies of Bonds past but it didn't really go anywhere, I was just told he had done all this, I was expecting some montage of his evil doings across previous films or something. But no, we got a Blofeld introduced and then just as quickly taken care of.

It would be a damn shame if this does end up being Craigs last bond film, I would have far preferred him going out on another strong film than a shitty one, but there's always so much apparent gossip about him leaving every film I wont trust any news till he says it officially. If those supposed rumours are true and they want to film two films together as a two parter, that would be a good way to leave and really work out a great story to do it with.

Craig's movies, even QoS are better than everything that IP has done since it's conception, with the exception of Connery's movies, I thought Spectre was good, not as good as casino Royale or skyfall but better that QoS.

They should have given Waltz more participation as they did with Bartem, that's my only complaint.

I enjoyed it.

Spectre has been on TV a lot this week so I re-watched the whole movie and have caught other bits and pieces a few times

I still can't figure out how Blofield had so many things work out exactly right for him and how Bond escaped the secret lair base so easily

Did the writer mess up or the director or everyone?

I mean so many of the scenes are exciting and cool to watch but make little sense =/

Are we allowed spoilers at this point? I guess I'll tag them just in case

It was on The Movie Network on Sunday, so I saved it and watched it the next day. I'd never seen it before, and expected a lot worse given reviews/complaints online.

It has some really standout action scenes, and is a good movie. Not the best Bond for sure, but definitely fine. Some of the plot moments were a bit too out there, though.

My chief complaints--

- The plot is a mess. It literally doesn't make sense to me at several points.
- The connection between Bond and Blofeld is stupid.
- Third act is dumb, ending is super-dumb.

^^ Eloquent, yes? That's how it makes me want to respond.

Too many Bond movies fall apart in the third act to make me think this is an accident. I'm convinced that the producers just want the set pieces and the initial setup and don't really care much about the execution.

You're right on the mark. However I would also add that too many of the set pieces seemed to drag on and on to the point where they started to feel boring and overly self indulgent rather than exciting and satisfying.
