It's called widescreen. It makes it feel more like a movie. The Order 1886 does it.
I'll make my question more specific. Are you injecting black bars into the game for that? Because if so, the game is still being rendered in the original resolution so you're just wasting performance. You can actually run the game in that aspect ratio so your screenshots dont have those bars and your FOV is adjusted appropriately.

(that, and black bars in screenshots is just annoying)

Yeah, ENB with black bars in Dark Souls, Skyrim, Fallout etc. etc. It's all such a waste and then people complain about performance. Especially in Skyrim, where you can use SRWE to run the game in anamorphic widescreen AND have the borderless window fill your screen with black bars... instead of having to hid your desktop manually with a black screen or something... it's just better that way.

I get about 90fps, so performance isn't a concern.

This 100%. You can render the game itself at a anamorphic resolution and it will grant performance benefits over injection of the bars. You'll still see them, but if you take a screenshot they will be removed. If you really want your shots to have the bars them you can edit them back in once you take them.

Seems that if you have the patience, you can work DoF into your shots in Mass Effect with a sniper rifle equipped. It's not very high-quality, and being in first person means you can't take pictures of your player character - but it's a good time if you like to torture yourself.
Also, you can't play the game at 21:9 because the HUD is cropped out. While it's not a problem in combat, you can't click accept in the squad selection, or change graphics settings because the apply button isn't visible.

Yet another game in my wishlist that I'll probably get sooner than planned now, art looks great to me in this one, as well.

ENB with no AO isn't too bad
I dig it, wouldn't mind seeing more.

I tried this game again to see if all the old screenshot commands still worked. Seems the devs stripped out the best ones.

You can still fly around. The HUD can be removed via in-game options.

But pause is gone. Enemies will see you and run towards you, making screenshots with them a bit difficult.

In-game slider settings were:
1.2 dark
1.1 light
0.9 saturation

Finally got SweetFX working with SoftTH by chaining then together with ENB (ENB + SweetFX + SoftTH). For some reason it looks like there was an issue when using GeDoSaTo and Cheat Engine that kept crashing the game randomly. Worked fine normally but would crash after attaching the cheat table.

GeDoSaTo has some post processing options similar to SweetFX (which can also be toggled on and off). I've been playing with the bloom, shapening, gamma and contrast. Would be nice if it had LiftGammGain as well.

You haven't had any CTD's with GeDoSaTo and cheat engine? Do you swap resolutions when taking screenshots or run the game at those resolutions constantly? I noticed crashes more frequently when transitioning.

I had 1 crash when transitioning. Hasn't happened since. I just kinda pray whenever I switch resolutions.

My GeDoSaTo res is 7680x3240. While I can play teh game at that res, it's not exactly smooth. Especially if I add on 2xSGSSAA on top. 4x looks marvelous but... that's like 1 frame per 2 seconds. I should probably lower on the res.

I had to unlock this skin for Gaige

Sadly I think GeDoSaTo is crashing the game a lot when transitioning between resolutions and alt-tabbing. Kinda killing all the fun so I'm gonna give up.
