3 days, 3 guys, a PS4 and a Switch : Couch coop games suggestion needed

So end of November, we organizing a 3 days gaming week-end with 2 friends of mine. One is a casual gamer (gaming very little alone but no problem on gaming a lot when together).

We already did it by the past and played Borderlands ½ and bit of TPS. Last time we bought Borderlands 3 only to discover that couch coop is limited to 2 players so we didn’t play it… I could bring my PS4 this time, for a 2 screen 3 players coop but it doesn’t sound optimal.

We have Streets of Rage 4 but not sure it will hold the whole week end, especially for the casual gamer (I play it regularly with the other one online so it would not be a problem for us).

We also tested Broforce on a previous edition but me and another were not huge fan.

Any suggestion of couch coop for 3 players on PS4 or Switch ? (A wii/ Wii U is also available in case…)

Can be a long game like the Borderlands, we don’t mind if we are not being able to finish it during the week end.

Edit : We have also Smash Bros Ultimate but probably not enough for 3 days

UPDATE :
Thanks for all the suggestion. I "submitted" a selection of it (Diablo 3, HellDivers/Alienation, Dragon's Crown, Trine, Huntdown, Overcooked) in addition of what we already have.

And my "casual gamer" friend stated that he's not that much into "stuff like Streets of rage and would prefer a nice looking FPS". Looks like we're heading to a Borderlands 3 week-end except if you can name another coop FPS that could surpass that.

Thanks to this thread I discovered co-optimus.com and there is not a lot of ("nice looking")coop FPS (I put a veto on "realistic world shooter" like CoD, it's not my stuff at all).

Update 2 :
So we settled on Borderlands 3 for this time. We'll try to squeeze a bit of Streets of Rage 4 or maybe another game in between (Overcooked maybe).

I highly recommend Diablo 3 for PS4 if you haven't already played it. It's a very different experience from Diablo 2, but it's an amazing couch co-op game in its own right. You blast through the campaign and can then start making crazy builds and cranking the difficulty as much as you feel like. Had many weekends co-op'ing it with 2 of my friends last year. I just hope your friends are good at console controls or you'll spend quite some time looking at their inventory screens as they fumble around trying to figure out their loot. The controls are quite well designed on console though. I would recommend the 'Eternal' edition so you get all the content.

Dragons Crown (PS4) is another good one, but I'd say it is less accessible than Diablo 3. Great beat-em up gameplay along with very cool visuals and art style. It can get quite messy when you are more than 2 people IMO but the mayhem is part of the fun.

Another obvious one is Overcooked. Better for shorter sessions, but great for varying up things with some very high-stress gameplay.

Hard to Kill
Diablo 3, spelunky1&2, Alienation, #killallzombies, Binding of isaac/enter the gungeon when one is going to go pee, Borderlands1/2/3 etc...

Check co-optimus.com and you'll be able to sort out couch coop games.

Overcooked! 2
Helldivers (don't play Alienation, it is trash, Helldivers is far superior)
Them Bombs

With these three you will have so much fun you have no idea.

Dragon's Crown is great but it takes a while to get the game rolling properly. The first 20 hours or so is one huge tutorial basically. The game lets you loose only after you "finish" the game.

Thanks for reminding Diablo 3. I was thinking it was only 2 players. I'll be curious to try but not sure it's the kind of game my friends will like. I'll propose it.

Dragon's Crown sounds interesting also. I am gonna check this.

On paper Overcooked doesn't sell me but let's check in detail.

Spelunky looks too platforming for me. (Hate platform genre)

Helldrivers sounds like a good candidate. I'll propose it too :D. I have to check details on Them Bombs, it makes me curious.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion :) I'll check them and propose it to my friends :)

I saw a lot of porno movies that begin like this.

I'll post the video after the week end ;)

Definitely diablo 3 if you've not played it. Tony hawkes is a pretty good one as you can all take turns and each run only lasts 2 mins. Alien nation, hell divers which were both free plus games on ps4. Streets of rage 4 is excellent.

It's a 4 player hyper violent Streets of Rage (classic pixels) with great music.

I would Gears 5, however no Xbox, because it has 3 player co-op. Blur is not BC. Helldivers for sure.

The Trine games are perfect for coop if there’s a less experienced player in the group.
Oh this, it's absolute blast to play it in co-op : )

What is the best thing about it?
Dissing your friends when they install the wrong upgrades.

Well its feels largely like a party game. Requires some level of cooperation and division of labor. Its fun but it can create some chaos and screams due to how much you need to rely on each other[\spoiler]

MK8 Deluxe is pure thrill.

I love ARMS for local Versus, but it includes a co-op (Team) mode that's pretty fun.

You also have a Wii? If you have enough Wiimotes, the light-gun games such as Ghost Squad, House of the Dead, Dead Space Extraction, etc can be played with 2 (maybe 4?) and are great to pass the controller when you die or get bored.

It may sound a little outside your usual line, but For the King is fantastic, especially with three players.

It's a simplified co-op, turn-based dungeon crawler with roguelike elements, all of which translates to something that sits on the midpoint between Dungeons and Dragons and Mario Party. It's probably the best co-op focused indie I've ever played. Tons of fun if you're at all into Tolkien, RPGs, or complex board games (i.e. Game of Thrones rather than Sorry).

Speaking of the Game of Thrones board game, that's a lot of fun on a getaway as well.

One more that came to mind (since you mentioned PS4)

Until Dawn is great fun to play with multiple people, if you want something low-key and mostly spectation. Each participant takes the role of one or more characters in the game, and the controller is passed each time that character's scenes come up.

This. I fully recommend Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Arms (severely underrated game, IMHO) as well. For PS4, I can recommend Dragon's Crown Pro!

Switch off on a really hard game. Max Payne used to do the trick.. also, fifa with one team controlled by two players...

I would have love but it's only 2 players and I am probably the only one who would be interested. But the D:OS are on my list of games to play. Hope I can start one them next year.

Speaking of the Game of Thrones board game, that's a lot of fun on a getaway as well.

Board game are not excluded and if we time will probably play Risk Europe (the best version we have tested so far). Since years, we like to play Risk and we like to tries the different version.
