Impossible Studios (former Big Huge/Amalur guys) did just get shut down by Epic. Maybe those guys are trying to rebuild the 38 name?

Maybe the domain expired and some fan bought it? I can't find any contact details on the website, which seems kinda fishy to me.

Went over to rerolled.org (forum where lots of ex-FoH posters went) and the thread there says the IP was to be auctioned off by the end of the 1st fiscal quarter of 2013, which means the sale must have been completed on March 31.

Also from that thread:

This is the website for 38studios. The Amalur action RPG was not developed by them. 38studios was working on the MMORPG.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
Is this probably just whoever owns the rights to Amalur realizing they can make some money from properly supporting it? There seemed to be quite a bit of buzz around it finally getting a discount.

That theory doesn't fly, as the State of Rhode Island currently owns the rights. There's no way the state government could drum up enough support to reopen a studio for a game that is seen as a disaster in local politics.

Amalur was garbage. New IP or bust.

Going to bet they are developing for iOS exclusively from now on though.

Would love to see a Reckoning 2 - the first game had so much potential. Please, for the love of God, drop your ambitions of making an MMO.

Um, that's just plain wrong. 38studios was Curt Schilling's studio and they were working on both...

It started out as a MMO, but became a RPG (probably to help fund the MMO) first. The world was created by people Schilling hired (i.e. Salavtore, McFarlane, etc.). You may be referring to Big Huge Games, but they were bought after development of KoA was already going.

I wonder what lessons Schilling has learned from all this? Resurrecting a publicly damaged company is very ballsy.

You have that backwards. KoA was a partially completed arpg by BHG that was retooled into an Amalur game to create buzz around the ip before their MMO.

bad gameplay lol
They just put up a new page on the site, with this quote:

Sorry, if you’re looking for 38Studios as it relates to Curt Shilling, Project Copernicus, or Reckoning: Kingdoms of Amalur. I’m sad to say they’re no longer exist.

http://38studios.com/2013/04/04/38studiosetc/

Also I like how whoever owns the name now can't get the name of Amalur right. Reckoning is the subtitle, guys.

Additionally, I would be highly suspicious of anyone who uses one of those stupid eCards on the website for their gaming company.

BHG may have had an ARPG they were working on, but I don't believe it was KoA. It may have become that after the acquisition.

Did you not read my post? Retooled means exactly that. That arpg they were working on is the product that eventually was released entitled KoA. Nothing disputable about it...recorded factual history.

I thought that was what you might be saying, but you said KoA was a partially completed arpg by BHG which made it sound like they were working on in before hand...

That doesn't make sense because the next few paragraphs written below that is exactly everything we know Curt and his team was working on. Sure 38studios was sold off and may not be under his control but this project is obviously still going unless they are giving a very wrong impression.

That honestly just looks like "filler text", kinda a placeholder until they get something about the newly revived company put up. In fact, it seems to be from before Amalur was released, as it keeps referring to it in the future tense.

Amalur 2 please! I love the first one so much and would hate to see the IP die so early.

About time to play through Amalur again I think...

Got my fingers crossed for Amalur 2. Enjoyed it a helluva lot more than I am with Skyrim right now, that's for sure.
