How do I know when I've completed a game?
That's up to you, it could be completing the game or playing 10hrs+ if it has no ending or a MP game. You can do replays, as long as all the games are completed in 2016.

Do I have to record time?
No.

Do I have to review or comment on the games I complete?
No but it'd be nice to give a few words or maybe a quick score.Full blown mini-reviews aren't necessary.

Do episodic games count as a single game or X amount of games?
That's up to you. It's alright to count something like Life is Strange as one or five games. Your choice.

Can I finish a game I started in 1923 and count that?
Yes.

What should I do once I've completed the challenge?
Shoot me a PM with a link to your post that shows all the games you've completed.

Do board games count?
They do not.

Is there a deadline?

33. Silent Hill 2 (PS2) - 6 hours 41 minutes
# Silent Hill 2 was a much more interesting narrative than the first game, following an unreliable narrator whose own anguish forms the town of Silent Hill, rather than residual anguish from the first game. The game delves more into psychological horror and subtle symbolism while brushing aside the occult aspects of the first game. While each place, puzzle, and character has symbolic meaning to James' loss, I still found the majority of the game rather boring, wandering from generic creepy place to generic creepy place (abandoned apartments, abandon hospitals--again, abandoned prisons), wading through mind-numbing combat, and having an adventure game inspired pixel hunt for random items that solve illogical puzzles (the light bulbs are in a tin can that needs to be opened with a can opener?) that really bring down the experience, despite the extremely strong ending which has the only good piece of voice work in the game.

37. Furi (PC) - 3 hours
#Barring the garish Through the Looking Glass companion that accompanies Rider, the aesthetics of Furi are impressive; however, I found the game's difficulty settings to be extreme (on both ends of the spectrum). Furi, the recommended and default difficulty, causes the game to be a repetitious and infuriating waste of time, and Promenade, the lowest difficulty which the developers actively advise against, restrains not only the power of the bosses' attacks but also the number of rounds you fight each boss, resulting in almost no challenge. While the developers state this in the difficulty setting and have gone on record to say they don't believe in product testing because it waters down their vision, I think there should have been a compromise to include an intermediate setting and not berate the player no matter their choice.
Status: Beaten - 10/16/2016

38. TIS-100 (PC) - 24 hours
#TIS-100 offers a fictional assembly language and allows the player to solve puzzles through programming. There are a few games out there that people tout a diluted experience of programming, but TIS-100 is probably the most rigorous and concentrated pseudo-programming language puzzler on the market. It showed up on my game of the year list last year as I've had an increase interest in learning to program, and I've been chipping away at the puzzles, taking a few long hiatuses when I hit walls, since the holidays. It's tough but like any puzzle the logical conclusion is extremely rewarding. The only faults I have with the game are the terminals not big enough to input proper comments and annotations and there is a limited amount of space to code although this makes the code more efficient. The only other slight (very slight slight) I had was that while playing the game and learning the pseudo-assembly language was helpful to get my mind in the frame for actual coding languages, practicing with actual languages would have achieved this as well as the added benefit of learning a language. I thought it was time to wrap this game up, so I could move on to actual coding aspirations and not keep beating my head against the wall and coming back to an unfinished game.

Status: Beaten - 10/22/2016

40. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (3DS VC) - 13 hours 4 minutes
Status: Beaten - 10/23/2016

41. Titan Souls (PC) - 4 hours 48 minutes
# The Ludum Dare version of Titan Souls appeared on my 52 games list in 2014. I really enjoyed these short creative bursts that were accomplished in 72 hours and a lot of 2014's list was comprised of games created during game jams. I stopped adding these to the list because a lot of these games would later be expanded upon and placed on Steam (Titan Souls, The God Will Be Watching, Sun & Moon, Please, Don't Touch Anything, etc.) rendering the game jam version more of a working demo than the final product. Titan Souls maybe was better as that game jam game. While one can see Dark Souls' challenge and Zelda's 2D aesthetics imbued in Titan Souls, Shadow of the Colossus seems to be the overriding influence; however, the the homage does not work in favor of the game as I just reminisced about playing SotC rather than being actively engaged or engrossed with Titan Souls. I really do appreciate the effort that went into expanding and creating the new titans in the game; however, by expanding the content of the game, the flaws and tedium of combat become more evident. Much of the combat felt like an 18th century gentleman's duel, and most of my accomplishes in the game felt, much like in those duels, like luck.

42. TitanFall 2 (PS4) ~ 4-5 hours
Status: Beaten - 11/5/2016

43. The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages (3DS VC) - 13 hours 46 minutes
Status: Beaten - 11/13/2016

44. Metal Slug (PS2) ~ 30 minutes
# This replay of the original made me realize how the game is designed to make you feed quarters into a machine.
Status: Beaten - 11/16/2016

45. War of the Monsters (PS2) ~1-2 hours
# A very short campaign. I enjoyed this as a rental from blockbuster, but coming back to it to run through the campaign might have been a mistake. The camera and controls are terrible unless locked on to an opponent, and it's pretty shallow in terms of skill. Most fights are won by spamming attacks; most fights are lost by getting caught in an infinite loop of hits. Enjoy the few monster designs that are in the game, but I wish they had an expanded ability set and that the game just felt good to control.
Status: Beaten - 11/17/2016

46. Lost Constellation (PC) ~1 hour
# Lost Constellation is penned as a supplmental independent story to the long awaited Night in the Woods, and the short one hour narrative has made me even more anxious to play NITW early next year. You wander through the woods conjuring the lost dead souls through snowmen cairns who try to help you through the forest. The writing was wonderfully witty and it reminded me of an early Wes Anderson film, whimsical yet biting.

51. FireWatch (PC) - 3 hours 54 minutes
Status: Beaten - 12/3/2016

52. Frogger's Adventures: Temple of the Frog (GBA) ~ 2 hours
# It was somewhat of a joke between friends of why I chose to play Frogger's Adventure, and while it's short and easy, it was adequate enough to be an enjoyable experience. It seems that in the early 2000s that a lot of arcade franchises were trying to morph and evolve into platform adventures, and it's interesting to see how developers merge the core arcade experience on top of a grander and more indepth design of an adventure/platformer.
Status: Beaten - 12/8/2016

xx. Rocket League (PC) - 50+ hours
# Rocket League was in my top 5 on my GotY list last year. I forgot to list I was playing it in the challenge last year. I think I had around 15 hours at the end of last year. Now instead of playing new games, I just migrate back to playing Rocket League. I'm putting it on this years list (will reserve a spot at the end of the year) because I forgot to do so last year and because I've palyed almost 20+ more hours of it

xx. Overwatch (PC) - 4 hours
Status:

GAME 01: Supercharged Robot Vulkaiser: A fun little shoot em up with great old style mecha action! I beat it on easy with a score of 8884086.

GAME 02: Killer is Dead: What a weird somewhat Character Action game? The ending still had me going what even after I watched an LP of it 2 years earlier. An enjoyable game I'll keep coming back to this game later in the year.

GAME 03: Spec Ops: The Line: Wow this campaign isn't enjoyable at all. The ending was cool tho.

GAME 04: Digital: A Love Story: Randomly finding this through GAF when talked about Her Story and stuff like it, it holds up really well. I was shocked when I learned it was make on the Ren'py engine. Highly reccomend.

GAME 05: Space Funeral: What a weird neat little RPG maker game. Pretty short but really surprised me. Great "music"

GAME 06: Raw Danger!: The Telltale-like game I never knew I wanted. While there are a couple of "campy?" scenes of dialogue, there are legit scenes that got me teary eyed and hyped. The controls are kinda bad, yet the mechanics of the games are really cool and well thought out.

GAME 07: Disaster Report: Its a bit weird that this didn't come with a tutorial like Raw Danger! did since its the first game in the series, so Im kinda glad that I played this one later. The ideas that Raw Danger! took were super refined, but the gameplay of Disaster Report was still really enjoyable. I can somewhat see why it would be harder to go back to this after starting Raw Danger!, but imo it feels a lot less jankyer. I'm really in love with Irem's/Kazuma Kujo's games now. I got really sad when I saw this easter egg/reference since it encompass Irem now :(

GAME 08: Tetris Ultimate: Beat Marathon mode and unlocked Endless. A really ok port of Tetris for Vita. They fucked up the old memorable theme of Tetris trying to make it atmospheric? and failed outright. Its Tetris alright and it does fill my need for Tetris right now. Can't wait to try out the other older ports.

GAME 09: Gravity Rush/Daze: (I love Gravity Daze over Rush any day.) A cool technical display of the Vita and really shows. An openworldish Vita game is really interesting when used with the cool gravity travel mechanics. The combat suuuuuuuuuucks, but everything else is well polished and cool.

GAME 10: Katamari Damacy: A cool chill game. Who knew rolling over and mashing together things were so calming? Kinda had trouble during the mid part of the game, but eventually worked around it. The music was definitely the highest point of the game.

GAME 11: Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne: One of the most atmospheric games I've played so far. Such a minimalistic story that ultimately defines the less is more saying. Completed it on the Freedom ending.

GAME 12: NieR: A different feeling Yoko Taro game. A 3rd person action game. Definitely feels more normal around the endings, but still worthwhile. Foreshadowing on ending B was super well done.

GAME 13: Drakengard 3: A game not for normal people. Playing through it, Drakengard 3 was definitely a huge improvement gameplaywise over Taro's last two games, but severely suffers from huge framerate issues.Really didn't care about the characters until I got to ending B. Ending C had me to the edge of my seat. Ending D's last boss made me feel emotions I never knew I had. One of the few games I love a lot, but can't bring myself to recommend. Im really glad I got to play this Masterpiece? of a game.

GAME 14:Grand Theft Auto V: A really excellent open world game with a ton of stuff to do. While I found the satirical? dialogue to be really grating, the missions were super varied and interesting. Flying airplanes and helicopters are a pain in the ass, but Im glad they kinda railroaded the tutorial stuff pretty later on in the campaign. The ending was a cool mixture of ideas that I kinda enjoy pulling off. The heists were perfection in what they have off the walls crazy planning and customization which were fun to replay. The open world keeps me exploring which is pretty enjoyable.

GAME 15:Digimon Cyber Sleuth: A really good Digimon game. Still hasn't beat Digimon World 1, but the digimon collecting and raising are so addicting. The detective portions feel kinda bolted on for no real reason since you aren't really figuring stuff out, but the story kept me on the edge of my seat and was pretty enjoyable. Most of the story was easy save for a couple of battles, but the challange cases definitely take the cake in difficulty. Has one of the best post game content in an RPG I've played today yet.

GAME 16:Bloodborne: A unique spinoff? to the Demons and Dark Souls series that doesn't disappoint. A somewhat weird
bait and switch
(at least to me) that changes it from a
creature of the night hunter to a full on H.P. Lovecraft horror? sign me up!
After playing through it again after finishing it, its a weird spot of difficulty in where it takes a ton of time getting used to the combat, but is overall waaaay easier than the souls series. Fromsoft definitely made a wholely unique spinoff that is worth playing.

GAME 17:Transistor: A really cool Vagrant Story/Parasyte Eve inspired game. The combos that you can do and the different uses for many functions are the main reason to play the game. Using the several functions give backstories to some of the characters in the world. The boss battles are interesting and varied. The voice acting like all Super Giant Games, was superb.

And reserved. Gonna hope I manage again, but it'll more be a, "play your games," encourager rather than finish 52.

Completed 26/52:

Game 01: Hook (PC) - 2h26m
#Short little puzzle game of 50 levels in which you manipulate circuits to draw all hooks back in. There's little "tutorial." The first levels are obviously a warm up, and I found myself genuinely bored at first, but as time commenced, it really started to challenge. Unfortunately, that challenge didn't come until I was already 80% up. If you play a lot of games like this, it's a breeze. Even if you don't, you just have to look and see how the bigger picture plays out. It's minimalistic entirely, minimal sound outside of ending FX and the hooks retracting. If you screw up, there's no going back - you restart the level, which can get infuriating at a more complex/full puzzle. This changes at level 40, where you seem to gain "lives." 3, specifically, indicated by small black circles on the far left of your screen. These will probably be necessary. Gets real convoluted from there onward. Difficulty spike is a bit shocking, even. Like I said, though. Just look at it - it's all right there. No guessing to be done.

Game 02: Until Dawn (PS4) - 7h18m
#Horror thriller, near spoof, of your typical cabin in the woods, teenagers gone on vacation flick. You're introduced to 8 characters beyond the opening sequence Mike, Emily, Matt, Chris, Ashley, Sam, Jessica, and Josh; it's up to your decisions to see how many can live until dawn.[u/] My play through had some fortunate, and unfortunate losses, ending with just 4 of the characters. They did a good job of introducing some unlikable characters and making them grow on you as time passes. The immersion is pretty good. The QTE sequences in tough situations definitely keep you on your toes, each with their own timing so you aren't guaranteed a thing. A single slip up in a sequence can mean someone's death. Whether you choose to risk it or go the safe route is something that can leave who you're playing as, or who they're looking for, for dead. This game is more for people who yell at horror movies when kids decide to hide rather than someone looking for a real scare. The Wendigo do a good job of instilling some fear, especially in the "Don't Move" sections where you have to keep your controller still, considering they can only see motion. I personally loved the game, down to my particular ending, though I found the twist to be ruined by a line that came before the reveal. Incredibly screwy turn of events. Collectibles are different, compared to other games I've played, specifically the Native-lore totems that speak to potential future events - guidance, fortune, death, danger, and loss. Use them well to decide what characters do - could be the big difference between a saved character. 8/10, not worth CDN$79.99, glad I picked it up on Black Friday for USD$20 at Best Buy considering the length.

Game 03: Mini Metro (PC) - 6h
#Simplistic strategy game revolving around creating efficient subway systems. Are you a commuter? Do you often find yourself enraged by delays, lack of trains on the line, and terrible design? This game is for you, because you will remember how difficult it is to put this together and reroute for congestion and rush hour. Several cities are implemented, including, but not limited to, Osaka, Berlin, Auckland, Cairo, Montreal, New York, and Hong Kong. Each has their own unique "environment" with different rivers/bodies of water/roads to tunnel over. Even the type of train is considered, only in Osaka I've noticed so far, where the bullet train is an option. You're limited in your amount of lines and trains, extra carriages, and the like, until a new week comes up on the Sunday. It may sound weird, but it's a time sink. At first, I was wondering what the hell was going on, and then I shift+tabbed to see a 6 hour total. Why have I been sitting here for 6 hours? It's addictive. I found myself restarting levels even though I earned enough passengers transported to move on. There are three modes, Normal, which has overcrowding of stations which ends the game, Endless, where overcrowding does not occur, and Extreme, where you cannot replace tracks whatsoever. Once they're laid, they're laid, and you're thoroughly screwed and forced to add another line rather than gain extra carriages for rapidly increasing populations. TL DR; This game is a little fun challenge. It doesn't rely on real "patterns" that I took in. It's all about maximizing for efficiency, rerouting if necessary unless you're in Extreme mode in which case you cannot change set lines, and adding relief in the form of locomotives, carriages, or additional lines in order to effectively transport your population to meet the markers to unlock the next cities.

Game 04: Kami (PC) - 1h43m
#Japanese paper folding themed puzzle game. With 5 sections, and 45 regular puzzles, this game offers a zen experience. It's simplistic, or it appears so. It involves some more backward thinking, single tiles being the difference between a Perfect and Okay, or Okay and Fail as you have an alotted amount of moves to clear the board. The goal is to fold out the paper until you only have one colour. It doesn't matter what colour it is, thankfully. Puzzles can be solved in multiple ways. The premium puzzles are much more difficult, at a glance, if you want the added difficulty. The sfx are only present at the start and end of a puzzle, not through the middle. While the sounds stay true to the theme, I sort of wish they had more of a soundtrack involved with the puzzles, but that's minor complaint. Often music isn't done well in these puzzlers, so it's probably for the better.

Game 05: Game of Thrones: Episode 6 (PC) - 2h0m
#True to the fashion of the rest of the season... eh. Overall, that's how I felt. About the episode, about the game, and that's even with high expectations coming off of a surprisingly well done episode 5 ending. It had the markings of a good succession only to fall short. Perhaps that's just in my choices, though I doubt it. I'm a fan of what it's based on, the novels, the shows, and I understand games take different angles all the time, but this isn't one I can back. Your choices hardly matter here. You can run the game in silence and arrive at the same ending as most. It is what it is. I got it cheap in a Humble Store build your own Telltale bundle in their end of summer sale, but even for about 90% off I'm disappointed. I don't see myself buying Season 2, or at least not on release.

Game 06: Ichi (PC) - 1h42m
#A one button puzzle game, one in which you have to account for multiple things activating/rotating as a result of a tap of the mouse. Whether it be rotation of the red triangle to launch the yellow stream to collect these golden rings, or make translucent (which doesn't affect the route of the yellow) or opaque (potentially blocks) these blue triangles. Then there's the introduction of a teleporter, as well as spikes, which add an additional difficulty to using the least amount of taps to collect all the golden rings in a level. There's 60 total, so that puts me about a third of the way through writing this with only 30~ minutes logged, and you have the option of playing user made levels. I personally found the gameplay to be ridiculously slow, I guess they really wanted you to have the time to think out your moves, but it feels like it's dragging. It has a clean aesthetic, but the music I found to be distracting - it overpowered everything else. I ended up turning it off. Had I not gotten it on sale for less than a buck, I'd be more inclined to complain, but the next it's 90% off it's my suggestion for you all to take a crack at.

Game 07: Hacknet (PC) - 6h09m
#Hacknet. A hacking game. Specifically, a hacking game following the story of Bit, a hacker
and prominent member of a community as you later find, who disappeared for 2 weeks while working on the project HacknetOS for EnTech Security
who seems infinitely smaller than he ends up being. You start off with simple things, basic UNIX distro commands you'd use to remove files etc (not that most work the way they would in reality). You "hack" into servers. It's a lot of that. You think it'd get boring, but Hacknet offers an immersive enough experience that you're constantly wanting more, especially with the messages between when you're well underway with the main story. Between the ranking in Entropy, and then going up to CSEC, you feel yourself climb, and as you go through you're given more tools to get through more "difficult" systems. If you're in any way computer literate, sure, you'll pick up quickly. As someone who knows this stuff well, it wasn't exactly challenging except in cases where I couldn't tracekill quickly enough (for example the CC Hacksquad mission which thankfully wasn't canon to the story anyway). When traced, with the change in colour of the game and consistent blinking as I went to reassign my IP, I felt as if I genuinely screwed up, ha. The music of the game is outstanding. The final mission is certainly convoluted - it's a lot of going back and forth, but it forces you to use every tool you earned. From the simple rm *, which you fucking should do at all times because those logs can and will bite you in the ass, to the obscure fucking eosdevicescan. 10/10. I suggest it. It would have been my GOTY had I played it in time for SteamGAFs.

Game 08: Gears of War: Judgement (X360) - 10h15m
#I've said it once, I'll say it again. This series should have finished at the second instalment, when Fenix and co. saved
Jacinto, the last city, from sinking as a results of the hive underground.
I'll personally never understand how the Locust (Gears 2 spoiler)
recovered and rebuilt their entire race with one remaining person, but hey, power to them
. They didn't go make one additional game. They made two, with a third on the way. But I'll retract my statement, this once. 3 certainly depressed me as a game. Judgement was actually a pleasant surprise, however. It's the prequel to Gears, taking place 14 years back, to just a month after Emergence Day - in the start of the Locust conflict. It follows through with the Gears combat I personally love, with new gameplay that's much more quickly paced than the prior 3. The AI is smarter, the formula's been tweaked. I personally enjoyed it, more for the revelations than what it actually is, and the focus on Baird as he's one of my favourite of the eventually called "Delta Squad." More action than immersion, still, it's a Gears title. I'm prepared for the fourth, one day, some day, but at $20 because really I don't see what they can do. With the trilogy, they eliminated the Locusts and Sera. They're finally in a position to rebuild their world. What's left?

Game 09: Uncharted 2 (PS4) - 8h42m
#Your typical Uncharted title, now with better mechanics. Fact there's a 4th is bothering me already. I didn't find it any more interesting than the first. Glad they reintroduced Sully, at least. Same old, same linear TPS adventure title. Naughty Dog, please.

Game 10: Assassins Creed Liberation HD (X360) - 7h39m
#Blurb

Game 11: The Crew: Wildrun (X1) - 23h06m
#Blurb

Game 12: Shan Gui (PC) - 0h57m
#A VN about a girl, Han Hui, seeking clarity via memories of a childhood place, guided by He Jai -
the second to last child of the Mountain God.
An underwhelming experience with some questionable wording, but with an enjoyable sound track and pleasant art style.

Game 13: Unravel (PC) - 6h38m
#A tight little puzzle platformer, short and sweet, with great mechanics, physics, brilliant art, and a grand OST to top it off. You play as Yarny, a character made from a single piece of yarn that's on a mission to mend broken bonds. Using yarn to overcome obstacles, there were several times that the puzzles were simply overthought on my end. It isn't necessarily difficult, in fact a lot of the puzzles aren't incredibly challenging, but the design is well done.

Game 14: Gone Home (PC) - 1h29m
#With a premise of Katie, returning home after a trip cross Europe only to find her sister missing and her parents on vacation, you're drawn into detective work of finding her little sister's, Sam's, whereabouts. Nice little exploration/discovery game. The atmosphere is a solid 10/10, without a doubt. Rather short game that I doubted was worth the price to begin with, so I avoided it, but all that was shattered with my playthrough. The soundtrack is unique, and the parallel stories mesh together perfectly. Would suggest as an in-between title for when tackling large titles as it offers a refreshing take with the use of Sam's journals to Katie. The story of Oscar falls onto the background unless you're naturally the type to seek out more than you need to, and learning of the relationship between him and
Terry/Terrance
adds unexpected depth.

Game 15: Dark Souls 2: Scholars of the First Sin (X1) - 46h07m
#It took me 3 months to complete this game. Like the rest of them, you aren't babied. You're going to die, and you're going to die a lot, like its predecessor. Probably even more punishing than DS1, even. Connection story wise is vague, but that could largely be with how much I fail to read into things and connect the lore. Since I played so late, invasions weren't nearly as much of an issue, thank God. Design choices are a bit weird. My largest issue with it is I had no idea what the hell I was fighting for, so I hit a wall, and that's why it took so long to complete. Since I haven't played vanilla, I can't comment on the differences, but graphically there is improvement and I noticed with the walkthrough I used on occasion that things were definitely different - from what enemy is guarding x tower and such, at least, and where they show up.

Game 16: Earthbound (EMU) - 36h28m
#I've played a few games that were Earthbound inspired, and none of them have ever really appealed to me. Without it being the flavour of the month for a group of friends, I never would have picked this up. I'm glad it ended up being so. The only qualm I really had throughout was the combat - if they remastered this and threw in Undertale-esque bullethell combat to replace the current one, I'd be more happy. Characters start off nicely, unconventionally even. Soundtrack is great. Themes are fucking way out for a game I probably should have played as a child. I fell in love with the title. Ness bby.

Game 17: Dark Souls 3 (PC) - 33h09m
#I went as a Thief instead of a Knight, and the bonfire glitch forced me to run in compat mode the first time. Performance patch is definitely needed and upcoming (as of my finish date, at least). Game in and of itself is your Souls game. You die a lot. Soundtrack is great. Pace is upped a bit compared to its prequels, which is nice. That's a lot of what appealed to me about Bloodborne in my play through. The bosses are well thought out, nothing really overstayed its welcome. fromSoft made a good title here. Not my favourite of the Souls games, but it's not one you can hate any more than the others outside of its launch issues such as framerate issues and pretty decent gaming rigs struggling to play the game.

Game 18: The Walking Dead S2 Ep. 1 (PC) - 1h50m
#Better start to the season than the first showed for me. It's probably attached to how much I enjoyed the later episodes of the first season. Didn't take nearly as much to get started, probably because they started off quickly with two consecutive deaths
RIP Omid, still feel some type of way that they killed him while Christa was pregnant, but she's missing as of now, anyway
. Clem's found a
new group
after suffering an injury when separated from her group, and it's a whole new dynamic to get used to. Pete's a likeable character, Rebecca not so much. Sarah seems helpful, and I wouldn't mind seeing Luke dead. Overall, enjoyed this start up to the title considering my general eh attitude toward the first.

Game 1X: NBA 2K16 (Platform) - SO MANY HOURS
#Alright, so I've had this since -5 days of release. Pre orderers got it 5 days early, based EA for that one. Except, not based EA. The Spike Lee movie that went with the first season to MyCareer was enjoyable, sort of like your average black movie of humble beginnings, to riches, with loss and all that. Peachy. Whatever. The online has got worse stutter and lag than anything I've ever witnessed. Oh wait, that's a lie, because up next for review is Street Fighter V, and we all know how that's gone. Things I liked about this game: height finally hinders you. Genuinely. You can not have a viable 7ft PG anymore for a consistent mismatch across the court for whoever is guarding you. It's fantastic. The customization for your character is absolutely crazy, but considering I missed every single one since 2K13, it may be nothing new.

Game 20: Street Fighter V (PS4) - TOO MANY HOURS
#Ya know, I looked forward to February 16th. Really, I did, but this game shouldn't have launched when it did. It took 1.5 months to get lobbies. You could only have 2 people to a lounge. When you'd be in a lounge, anyway, regardless of placement, rollback/lag was so strong no matter your signal strength shown. It could be someone who lives down the street with me, both on 100Mbps dl and 10up, and it'll still find a way to magically screw with me. Story was ridiculously short, and not really a story, because - wait for it - story releasing in JUNE. AHAHAhahahaha. Okay. Thanks, Capcom. There were going to be other EVOs. Lord knows SFV will be in every EVO for the next decade, why the rush? With the March update, they added challenges and tutorials which are nice for beginners. Survival is a bitch. Lobbies exist now but too bad the net code is so trash I don't want to start the game up ever again. Woooooo. Been playing a lot of Killer Instinct as a result for the fighting game kick.

Game 21: The Walking Dead S2. Ep 2 (PC) - 1h53m
#Rollercoaster of an episode, with the introduction of Carver and the fruition of the triangle between himself,
Alvin, and Rebecca, especially with the child in play.
Reintroduction of
Kenny
was a heart warming bit - didn't expect it. Nick's killing of
Matthew
created some scary tension between the two groups for a little, and we find Walter's forgiveness to ultimately be a mistake
which costs his life, as it allowed Carver's crowd to scout him.
This season has kept me much more in it than the first did to start with. Well done. Moved up my Telltale rankings.

Game 22: The Walking Dead S2. Ep 3(PC) - 1h26m
#God damn, that Carver
death
was so, so, so sweet to witness. I left
Sarah
behind after finding
her with Luke
, because really
she's no more than a liability with how her father coddled her throughout
. Good to see the return of S1 tactics in running away. Favourite scene is definitely Jane
fucking over Troy by trying to "talk him into running away with them" only to take his gun and shoot him in the dick
.

Game 23: The Walking Dead S2. Ep4 (PC) - 1h37m
#What a God damn rollercoaster this was. Jane and Luke? Bye Jane? Russians? Rebecca? Baby? Kenny the cold blooded? Tensions are high, lives are lost. Which lives are lost? This cliff hanger on the sound of bullets after Kenny
put a bullet in Rebecca's head as she died while holding her child
is killer, and I dunno if I can continue right away. Right in the feels despite my dislike for
Rebecca
that's rooted in
her attitude in the first two episodes, smh
. Also, can anyone tell me if that's Carver or Alvin's baby already? Fuuuuck's sake. Looks like Carver's. Rebecca still convinced it ain't, but that could be denial - looks like denial.

Game 24: The Walking Dead S2. Ep 5 (PC) - 1h46m
#A tale of betrayal, mistrust, loss, and lots of anger, this episode wraps up with none of the original group left in my play through. It's been wild. Bonnie now
hates Clem because
she didn't save
Luke
and chose to cover him instead. Mike, Bonnie, and Arvo, sly,
thieving, bastards
, who freaking had Clem
shot
. I chose to kill
Kenny
and forgive
Jane
. That leaves me down to two people, outside of Alvin Jr. Loved it, through and through. The bickering certainly got annoying - it's a lot of what I disliked about the start of the very first season, between Lily, her father, and Kenny, but eh. Likeable characters, good soundtrack, well played tensions.

Game 25: Bastion (PC) - 6h20m
#A game of restoration, betrayal, and genocide, this game was an emotional rollercoaster for my poor, emotionally invested heart. Zulf broke me, and then broke me again, and then again at the end. Probably the best 6 hours I've spent in a game in a little bit, with an enjoyable narrative, an ace narrator, and fantastic soundtrack. The combat seems to have gotten a bit of hate over the years that I've noticed, but I can't find myself relating, even with a kb/m play through. While you can't multitask in combat, as in you defend or attack, not both, it just teaches you to dodge and counter harder. Art is fantastic, funny that they call the protagonist "The Kid," worlds were all nice and varied. Probably one of my favourite games to date.

Game 26: Love At First Sight (PC) - 2h10m
#A dating "sim" VN about an unlucky girl named Sachi who's saved by some white knight prince nicknamed Ma-kun, right. Girl's a cyclops, gets bullied. Music intensifies. Family issues. A date. Love happens. Unrequited love happens. Tomo's whipped. The end. Was an experience. I don't tend to play VNs, it was gifted, and I don't regret the time I put into it. Wished there was some more choice in it, as there was none at all, but.

My first year doing this. I want in.

10 Games To Go....

Game 1 - Peggle 2 (PS4) Well, not much to say other than the fact that its Peggle. From shooting enemies heads off to grinding in a RPG, this game was a nice change of pace to relax a bit.

Game 2 - Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth;1 (Vita) First game I booted up in 2016. I'll be honest, when I first saw all these Neptunia games I thought they were trash and wouldn't be worth my time. Bought this on a sale, and in short, I will be playing the other titles. Very enjoyable time with the game. I took my time with it and I also laid the groundwork so I can nab the platinum later. So my first playthrough clocked around 50 hours I think.

Game 3 - Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (PS4) Solid FPS. I enjoyed it.

Game 4 - Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS4/PS2 Emulation) Well my only complaint is the game crashed on me outta nowhere. Luckily I lost no significant progress. Aside from that, its a classic. I won't really complain about its flaws.

Game 5 - Skullgirls 2nd Encore (PS4) I've beaten every characters story, so I'll mark it as complete.

Game 6 - BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend (Vita) 100% completed every characters story/watched all endings. Whew. Got it in before February.

Game 7 - BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma (Vita) Had this in plastic since 2014. Finally played it this year. I skipped damn near all the dialogue. I have CP Extend on PS4 so I'll take my time on that. I just wanted this game out of my backlog.

Game 8 - Nitro Blasterz Heroines Infinite Duel (PS4) Platinum. Decent fighter.

Game 9 - The Walking Dead Season One (PS4) Completed all Episodes/Platinum. For this and future episodic games I plan to play, I'll keep it at one game complete.

Game 10 - Mortal Kombat X (PS4) Plat. I enjoyed my time with it. Wanted to get it done before the XL version dropped. Or it would've felt like a waste of money to me. I originally planned on buying the XL version just so I could have "everything" in one package (Like I did with MK9 "Komplete Edition"). Instead I bought MKX on Black Friday and did everything I could in February before the XL version came out.

Game 11 - Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z (Vita) Completed Missions 1-35 and seen credits. I don't think I'll bother with the "Age" missions.

Game 12 - Killzone Mercenary (Vita) Completed campaign on Veteran Difficulty. (Final game in February)

Game 13 - LEGO The Hobbit (Vita) My first Lego game I've ever played. Decent. Another one of those games to get out of my "comfort zone" and try something new.

Game 14 - Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed (Vita) Completed World Tour up to the credits. I had fun.

Game 15 - Unit 13 (Vita) Solid third person shooter. One thing that annoyed me a bit was that there was no way to turn off auto aim. There were a couple of instances where I wanted to shoot a trap but instead it would auto lock on the enemy next to the trap, for example. (Final game in March)

Game 16 - DOAX3 Fortune (PS4) Finished three vacations with Ayane. First DOAX I've played so wasn't familiar with several of the features like gifting etc. Seems grindy so I'm calling it quits for now. Will still peck away at the platinum though as I play other games.

Game 17 - Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth;2 (Vita) Knew what to expect after playing Rebirth1. Still fun. Noticeably easier than ReBirth1.

Game 18 - Soul Cailbur V (PS3) Beat Arcade mode 2x, Story mode and Legendary Souls all in one sitting. Played SC IV to death by the way. It's my favorite fighter overall. Looking Forward to SC VI. (Final Game In April)

Game 19 - GTA Vice City (PS4/PS2 Emulation) It was fun to replay this one again. Played this, GTA 3 and SA when I was younger. Good stuff. Too bad about the cut songs.

Game 20 - Moe Chronicle (Vita) Plat. At first I was going to put the game off as soon as I saw the credits but the game was addictive and I kept coming back. Looking forward to the English/Chinese Version of Moero Crystal.

Game 21 - Dunamis 15 (PS3) Plat. I don't know any Japanese but the game was cheap on Play Asia and decided to get it for the simple platinum. (with a guide of course) I really wish I knew what was going on.

Game 22 - Tales From the Borderlands (PS4) Completed all Episodes/Plat. Highly recommended. (Final game in May)

Game 23 - One Piece Unlimited World Red (Vita) Never watched the TV show/manga etc prior to the playthrough. So wasn't familiar with the story or most of the characters. Picked it up cos it was on sale. Not too bad.

Game 24 - Naruto UNS Revolution (PS3) Mecha-Naruto/Ninja World Tournament/Ninja Escapades stories completed.

Game 25 - Lollipop Chainsaw (PS3) Hard difficulty. Got the "good" ending. I enjoyed the game.

Game 26 - Drakengard 3 (PS3) I'll beat that final boss someday :(. I've seen the other endings so I'll knock it off my backlog. (Final game in June)

Game 27 - No More Heroes: Heroes Paradise (PS3) Not the best, not the worst.

Game 28 - JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All-Star Battle (PS3) Platinum.

Game 29 - The Wolf Among Us (PS4) Good. I enjoyed Tales from the Borderlands more but I thought it was better than TWD.

Game 30 - Streets of Rage 2 (PS3) Good times playing this on the Sega Genesis long ago.

Game 31 - Yakuza 3 (PS3) Good shit. After playing Yakuza 4 and 5 and enjoying them, I had to buy Y1 Y2 and this. Definitely getting Yakuza 0 next year. (Final Game in July)

Game 32 - KNACK (PS4) This game....

Game 33 - Senran Kagura Bon Appetit (Vita) Hanzo Academy and Crimson Squad stories completed.

Game 34 - Space Invaders Infinity Gene (PS3) Actually played this back when it launched on iOS. Love the music. (Final game in September.)

Game 35 - Hyperdimension Rebirth;3 (Vita) Got the Truuuuuue Ending (see what I did there). 60 hours played. IMO ReBirth;1> ReBirth;2 > ReBirth;3. All three Rebirth games were fun and I enjoyed them. Now to play the other hypermegasuperultra dimension games.

Game 36 - Valkyrie Drive -Bhikkhuni- (Vita) Wasn't expecting to dump 40+ hours in the game. I was roaming around trying to find the various collectables and secret missions in each stage. Combat was fun. (Final game in October)

Game 37- Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention (Vita) Main story completed. Very fun. Maybe I'll go back my 2013 save file from Afternoon of Darkness and finish that. That game never clicked for me. D3 did though.

Game 38 - Yakuza (PS2) Decided to play this with Y0 around the corner. (Final game in November)

Game 39 - Tales of Hearts R (Vita) Never played a Tales of game until now. Good game!

Game 40 - Caladrius Blaze (PS4) Every characters story beaten.

Game 41 - Gal*Gun Double Peace (PS4) It was all right.

Game 42 - Mega Man (PS4) Save states for the win! On a serious note, MM was challenging and save states really saved me some time. I only played one mega man in my life but the name escapes me. It was 3D and had a snow level. Will definitely try out and beat the other MM games in the Legacy Collection.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End - 17.5 hours / Hard (sight unseen)
Reason I played: Work + I love Uncharted.
Thoughts: http://www.dailydot.com/geek/uncharted-4-thiefs-end-review/

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune - 8 hours / Hard / 3rd playthrough overall, 3rd playthrough on Hard, 1st playthrough on the Nathan Drake Collection
Reason I played: Work + undisclosed video project.
Thoughts: This latest go on Hard makes me think I'm actually ready for Crushing (finally).

Mortal Kombat XL - 4-5 hours / 2nd playthrough overall (1st on XL version)
Reason I played: PS4 code provided by Warner Bros PR "just to check out" and I felt obliged to play at least the story mode, despite already having beaten in last year on Xbox One.
Thoughts: http://www.dailydot.com/geek/mortal-kombat-x-review/

Assault Suit Leynos - 2 hours / Normal, Original Mode
Reason I played: Huge fan of the original, both the MD and Genesis versions.
Thoughts: I was impressed at how faithful it was to the original, right now to the shot-for-shot opening. It does have a few surprises at the latter half.

Battlefield 1 - 5 hours (Story)
Reason I played: Review assignment with Gamespot. Battlefield campaigns also intrigue me

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - 8 hours (Story)

I might as well try this but i know im either gonna forget, or not do it.

Quick question im playing MGS3 right this second and i beat the original one with the shitty camera. Would this count if i beat the game before? Or do they have to be games ive never played before?

One of my favorite games of 2015, I’ve completed the game twice now, and still pop it open for the occasional hour or two. Its style is great, the way it blends multiple systems together seamlessly is sublime, but what I enjoy most of all is just when I think I have it figured out it still finds a way to throw me for a loop. I love that despite my careful planning, things fall apart on the harder difficulties, and I love even more the thrill of having to adapt and change on the fly to conquer the situation. I can’t recommend it enough.

2. Pony Island (PC) – 2 hours
I read a few reviews on its release and figured for $5 why not? Going in, I knew the premise (as listed on the actual store page) is that Pony Island is actually a game created by the devil itself. The actual gameplay follows a pretty simple formula between an endless runner style game and a “hacking” puzzle game. Where the game really shines is how it subverts expectations as it goes; there were quite a few moments that made me appreciate just how smart the game is. One of my favorite moments in gaming this year comes near the end of the game, and it really just blew me away. To say anything else would spoil it, but all in all a very enjoyable evening was found here.

3. The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel (PSVITA) – 75 hours
I went into this with a great amount of excitement, and for the most part it met my expectations. It was neat to see how some of the series mechanics had evolved and changed from the Sky series to one of the most recent in the timeline. I really enjoyed the soundtrack, with just some fantastic tracks throughout. The various battle tracks especially, as they always made going into a battle exciting. The load times on Vita were kind of annoying, and the story was fairly predictable, but both are minor negatives in a very enjoyable game. Trails in the Sky FC and SC were two of my favorite games last year that essentially pulled back the curtain on a genre that I had mostly ignored through my gaming life. I’m trying to catch up on so many jrpgs that I’ve missed, but I’ll still be there day one for Cold Steel 2 and Sky TC when they release!

4. Rise of the Tomb Raider (XBOX ONE) – 18 hours
I found this to be a step up over its predecessor in just about every way. A very beautiful game graphically, with some great set pieces. I enjoyed what felt like an increase in the “tombs” to go through, even if most were simple or short. From what I remember of the first, I definitely enjoyed Lara’s character more in this one, although the story wasn’t very good. There were quite a few parts where characters motivations or actions left me feeling lukewarm or scratching my head. Still a fun time to be had, hopefully despite all the miss-steps outside of the game with platform exclusivity and promotion they’ll get a chance to do another one.

5. Ori and the Blind Forest (PC) – 10 hours
An incredibly beautiful game for the eyes and ears, with great animation, lush environments, and a great score that suits the games almost surreal, dream-like design. It also plays really well, with tight controls and interesting level’s and puzzles slowly upping the ante in difficulty. I really enjoyed the escape sequences, not only for the visual spectacle, but also as a test or boss fight of sorts to put to use the new abilities I had gained in the area. I’m looking forward to checking out the new stuff being added in sometime this year.

6. Hatoful Boyfriend (PSVITA) – 8 hours
The premise of a human going to school with a bunch of birds sounded interesting, but I found myself lukewarm on this through the first few character endings. The port on Vita had to be the worst ones I’ve encountered, which is really surprising. Multiple audio errors, the game crashed multiple times, really just baffling stuff. Combined with some of the more basic character paths and I wasn’t really feeling it and was about to move on. My fiancée loves this game though, and told me to at least go through a few more to see the final path called “BBL” so I figured why not. It started to get a little more interesting with some of the other characters (Shuu, Okosan, Anghel), but it really took off in that final path. Suddenly some of the more mundane moments from the first few runs clicked together, things that were glossed over through many runs were explained, and twist after twist was thrown at me. I’m glad I stuck with it for that, but I wish my experience with the port wasn’t so awful on the technical side.

Game #1- The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PC) | 1/9/2016 [45 hours 53 mins]
I started this game a year ago in January and played through the prologue, then stopped for some reason. I finally picked it back up over the holidays and managed to get through it. It's a fun little old school JRPG. It's super cliche, but I don't mind that so much. I just wish the characters were more interesting- pretty much all of them were just basic anime cliches who didn't get enough characterization to make them more interesting. The two leads, as expected, got the bulk of the characterization and while one of them was a great example of a good, female lead, the other one was beyond basic and boring. I've heard that the second game fixes a lot of my issues with this game (lack of characterization and basic music), so I have high hopes for it.

Game #2- Emily is Away (PC) | 1/10/2016 [30 mins]
I became interested in this game when I heard about it last year and just realized it was on steam, so figured it would be a good time to try it out before I really get into SC. This is an interesting little game. There were a lot of little touches that really brought me back to the AOL days. It's really short, but it did kinda make me think back at some of my old friends who I used to chat with online. For what it was, it was an interesting little game to kill 30 mins.

Game #3- Cibele (PC) | 1/18/2016 [1 hour]
Hmm, what to say about Cibele... I can say that it was definitely an interesting experience, especially since I can relate so closely to the topic of the game. I hadn't heard about this game until today, but after reading the summary on the Steam store page, I was instantly intrigued. I am a girl and have had my fair share of MMO interactions since I started playing them and I am now engaged to a man that I met on an MMO, so you know... I'll start off by saying that what actual game play in the game is very boring and monotonous. Of course, that isn't the focus of the game, but I admit that it was sometimes hard to focus on what was important because I just wanted the game play part to end. It was also pretty short, though I suppose I should have expected that, but I couldn't help but feel like I paid a little too much for what I got (which is a personal opinion and will, of course, vary). I thought it was kind of interesting to see how things progressed, I just wish it had let you see more of the interactions. In that way, it was disappointing for me. Still, I think it's something a lot of people who play MMOs can relate with and is worth it in that sense.

I'm using a 5 point review scale: Hate it, Dislike it, Like, Really like it, Love it.

January: Games 1-7
  • No Second Chances - 00:10 completed on 1-5-16
(3/5) 10 minutes to defuse a bomb. You only get to play the game once, if you fuck up you can't restart. Cool, simple game.

  • Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin - 73:23 completed on 1-9-16
(4/5) I love the Souls games so much, but this is the weakest in the series. It's still a good game, but I have some real problems with it. Worst of all is that it is sometimes too difficult to figure out where to go next. I had to consult a guide a number of times to find my next destination, and that shit just ain't right.

  • Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin (NG+) - 25:19 completed on 1-17-16
(4/5) First time through was a STR build, this time I went INT with a focus on sorcery and the Moonlight Greatsword. I found the game to be more enjoyable this time through because I knew where I was going and knew which areas I could skip, but I still think playing through blind the first time (as I did above) is the right way to do things.

  • Axiom Verge - 13:29 completed on 1-17-16
(4/5) First non-Metroid Metroidvania I think I've ever played that actually felt like a Metroid game. I wish there were more necessary powerups and fewer disposable weapons (ie I wish the guns were necessary for progress) but I do like the fact that you can find so much cool stuff if you try. Great game over all.

  • Elite Beat Agents - 1:17 completed on 1-17-16
(5/5) I fucking love this game! It was such a fresh concept at the time and it holds up so well. Makes me sad it never got turned into a proper sequel. The game is so silly and awesome, but that final level gets to me every time. So good and touching without having to pile it on. Also, song compression really hurts this game, but not enough to keep me from absolutely loving the hell out of it.

  • Fat Princess Adventures - 8:00 completed on 1-24-16
(3/5) It's really cute and pretty funny, but that's all it really has going for it. Four classes that aren't different enough, each with two abilities. Found equipment changes things up somewhat, but it's not enough. It was fun in 2p co-op but would put me to asleep if I was solo.

  • Emily is Away - 1:05 completed on 1-30-16
(3/5) This game would have a much higher score if
    there were multiple endings
. I played through it twice. I think that tagged spoiler is an intentional design, to make a point, and I think the game does it extremely well. But it left me unsatisfied. After several goes, I'm left feeling that
Emily is a perpetual victim and just the worst kind of person. Everything is always your fault
. It's a realistic portrayal of a certain kind of person, but it wasn't supposed to be like this. The way it makes me feel is pretty incredibly, to be honest.

Februrary: Games 8-12
  • Steamworld: Heist - 17:34 completed on 2-8-16
(4/5) I thought Steamworld: Dig was ok but Heist really blew me away. Great gameplay, beautiful graphics. I didn't care about the story, but that doesn't bother me. I wish it had a little more depth and some better skill progression but as it stands it is still a great game.

  • Broken Age - ??:?? completed on 2-9-16
(3/5) This fucking game. If it was just Act 1, it would easily be a 5/5 for me. It's got beautiful art, a cool concept, Vella is seriously cool, and really good puzzle flow where you never have more than a few puzzles up at any given time. But Act 2 is full of trash nearly on the same level as the pixel hunting nightmares of yore. I ended up looking up several puzzles during the final few hours, such as
wiring the Hexi-pal the first time and then probably half of everything after the two Mogs collide
. These awful puzzles ruined what started off as an excellent P&C Adventure game.

  • Shadow of Mordor - 19:36 completed on 2-11-16
(3/5) I've heard this compared to Arkham games, but all I got was Assassin's Creed, and I hate Assassin's Creed. This is better than that; stealth is pretty fun and by the time I was all powered up I started enjoying it more. But direct combat, I thought, was boring and flaccid and i hate the terrain traversal. This game was so hyped and i was so excited, but it's not for me.

  • Nom Nom Galaxy - ??:?? completed on 2-23-16
(5/5) What a surprise hit this turned out to be for me. Played mostly in online co-op, the only flaw the game has in my eyes is that the net code kinda sucks. I'm a sucker for building games, exploration games, and games that let me automate processes I could otherwise manually do myself. Check, check, and check. Cool art, nice music. Amazing game.

  • Shadow Warrior - 15:30 completed on 2-28-16
(3/5) I love the humor and old-school feel of this fps, but the combat leaves a lot to be desired. Most guns feel weak and the upgrades for those guns are few and far between. The spell casting and sword combo system are a neat idea but I ultimately found them frustrating to pull off (and the touch pad implementation left a lot to be desired). I did love hunting through levels for all the extra stuff I could find, but levels that take over an hour are unacceptable to me and this game is full of them.
March: Games 13-17

  • Super Mario World - 4:47 completed on 3-9-16
(5/5) It's been probably 15 years since I've beaten SMW, and I'm happy to say that it's just as amazing as I remembered. Compared to modern Mario, it's surprisingly challenging. I was impressed by the sheer variety of enemy types, many of which are only in a level or two. I just wish there were more Mario like this.

  • Survive - 3:00 completed on 3-10-16
(4/5) This is a mobile game about trying to survive in the wilderness and hike 85 miles to safety. It's mostly text. It's a simple game but I love the theme and had a lot of fun with it.

  • Mega Man - 3:14 completed on 3-11-16
(3/5) Mega Man is okay. It's always been one of my least favorite MMs. I've played it a lot, but this was my first time beating it.

  • Mega Man 2 - 2:25 completed on 3-12-16
(5/5) This is what I'm talking about! Everything about MM2 is so good. What can be said that hasn't already been said before? It's an amazing game.

  • Dead Frontier: Outbreak 2 - 0:32 completed on 3-17-16
(3/5) This is a simple Choose Your Own Adventure game about zombies. I was watching an old YT video when it was mentioned, and I decided to check it out. Like many amateur CYOA games, it lacks meaningful decisions and consequences, and is instead more of a pass/fail kind of game. Still, I got pretty caught up in the story, and reading it at night time sort of freaked me out a little. I'm consistently surprised by how much I like these kinds of games, even when they are as simple as this one.

April: Game 18
  • 999: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors - 8:18 completed on 4-10-16
(5/5) Simply amazing. It would be nice if it had voice acting, but I didn't mind reading through the game and usually I get aggravated by games that require a lot of reading. The puzzles were good, the story was engaging and atmospheric. When the game came out I played a little and was not impressed, but I'm very happy I decided to try it again.

May: Games 19-29
  • The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past - 10:25 completed on 5-1-16
(5/5) Probably my favorite Zelda, it was awesome to finally revisit it after 15~20 years. I played it so much as a kid that, unfortunately, there was nothing to figure out, no difficult puzzles to solve. Even dungeons that once gave me a ton of trouble were easy, because I remembered how to do just about everything. It sucks that I will never get to experience this game fresh again, but I still loved every second of playing this masterpiece.

  • Dark Souls 3 - 68:32 completed on 5-3-16
(5/5) I love this series, and I don't think there's much I can say that hasn't already been said. Dark Souls 3 is my favorite game in the series, probably, and I love the changes in brought. If I have one complaint, it's that bonfires need to be placed right outside of boss rooms. There's always a way to run to the boss and bypass all enemies, which means that the 30-60 second run to a boss in sheer inconvenience and nothing more.

  • The Division - ??:?? completed on 5-5-16
(3/5) This was a pretty fun game, but having access to only three skill slots and twelve skills was underwhelming. I liked finding new weapons and gear, but combat was too repetitive, as was side mission structure.

  • Pilotwings (SNES) - 2:50 completed on 5-6-16
(4/5) I've always loved Pilotwings 64 and never been crazy about the original, but after sitting down and playing the full game, I can say that I was wrong about the original. Not only is the game fun and challenging, on the 3DS's small screen it actually looks pretty good. The only complaint I have is the length of the game and the way each series of events are all tied together, so that if you do great on the first two and bomb the last one, you might have to repeat all three events.

  • Knights of Pen and Paper 2 - ??:?? completed on 5-7-16
(4/5) I don't play pen and paper games and I thought the first game was boring, but I actually liked this one quite a bit. There were enough classes with various strengths to make me want to respec my characters several time throughout (which is thankfully painless). If you pick the right classes, the skills support each other also, which makes combat a little more interesting. All in all this isn't the most complex game, but it's enough that I can enjoy it on my phone for 30 minutes here and 30 minutes there.

  • Japanese Rail Sim 3D - Journey in Suburbs #1 - 1:07 completed on 5-7-16
(3/5) A rail sim on 3DS is super appealing to me, and I liked this game at first, but it ultimately feels kind of shallow and overly simplistic. I liked how it wanted you to mind your speed on certain corners, and you need to honk your horn at certain signals, but all of those things are just one offs and rather than learning how to properly operate under various conditions, you are simply told what to do every time. What's worse is that there is no crashing or derailing if you don't obey speed limits on corners, you simply get penalized points.

  • Risk of Rain - ??:?? completed on 5-16-16
(2/5) I love the concept of this game, but in practice I didn't find it very enjoyable. The fact that the skill bar at the bottom is the same on PC and PS4 is sheer laziness, and I found it useless. The difficulty is too high, or rather I don't feel like I have the tools to properly deal with some of the high difficulty enemies. If it wasn't for co-op, I doubt I ever would have beaten it, and I really can't feel good about that.

  • Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Edition - ??:?? completed on 5-17-16
(2/5) Man... I did not like this game when I first played it, then I played KoP&P2 and I enjoyed it, so I decided to give it another try. This game is way too long and repetitive, lessons learned for the sequel. The room customization is cool, but buying temporary buffs is so dumb. No respec option in a game in which you unlock numerous classes through it is just bad design. Just so much shit.

  • Lego Marvel Super Heroes - ??:?? completed on 5-22-16
(3/5) This is the first Lego game I've ever come close to finishing. I played through it with my 4 year old, who is just nuts for super heroes. Helping him solve the puzzles, grinding for coins so he can buy new characters, and seeing his joy and amazement when we would find a new character never gets old. What's even better is when he see's something and knows how to handle it (Ice Man puts out fires, Captain America blows up silver statues, Human Torch melts gold statues, etc), and yells out what we need to do. It was pretty damn cool.

Unfortunately, the game is a bit of a mess. I won't waste my character count with all the problems, so suffice it to say that the controls, textures, models, and numerous glitches all leave a lot to be desired. In a lot of ways this game looks like a higher res PS2 game. It's a travesty and I should hate this game, but playing it with my son was just too good.

  • 1886: The Order - ??:?? completed on 5-26-16
(3/5) Disclaimer: I paid $6 for this. A full $60 and I would have had a very different reaction.
For all the hate this game gets, I really enjoyed it. There's quite a bit that's mediocre to bad in here, such as the enemy variety, the lack of any sort of tactics during combat, the walking sequences, the stealth level. Honestly, the short length of the game definitely helped me overlook these problems. As for the good, the aiming felt good and guns were really cool, but all too disposable. However, all of that takes a back seat to the story, setting, and characters. I love this world and these characters (at least the three knights and the Isi/Grey relationship). I love that Tesla makes weapons for the Order, that was so cool. I love that there are werewolves and vampires, even if their actual role in the game was pretty lackluster. I'll definitely be checking out the sequel, if we get one.

  • Alienation - ??:?? completed on 5-29-16
(4/5) One of my favorite of these types of Diablo style games. It was really fun and challenging, and great fun in 2p (3-4p not so much, as I found it too chaotic and we ended up spreading out a lot) I wish there were more variety in passive upgrades instead of all three classes sharing the same passive tree, but that's my only real complaint.

June: Game 30
  • Battlefield Hardline (campaign) - ??:?? completed on 6-1-16
(2/5) What a fucking joke. Terrible writing, terrible characters, terrible dialogue. Why am I arresting people as an escaped convict? Who gives a shit, this game is such trash. At least the character models looked good, I guess.

July: Games 31-35
  • Dishonored Definitive Edition - ??:?? completed on 7-7-16
(5/5) I love this game, but what can I say that hasn't already been said? Stealth as a powerful force is so much fun, and much better than the games of old where getting caught meant loading a save file. My only complaints are how necessary Dark Vision is, but how ugly it makes the game, and how going for the good ending muzzles the player in such a significant way. I imagine Corvo would have cut a bloody path of furious vengeance, at least until the Golden Cat, but instead of play nice and show mercy. It feels somewhat out of character, but ultimately I want the good ending.

  • Gone Home - 2:30 completed on 7-7-16
(3/5) This was alright. I enjoyed the organic storytelling, except all the random notes left in all the random drawers wasn't really very organic. The story was pretty neat. I have to admit I thought something scary was going to pop out the whole time, or at least a bloody crime scene. I think that's why the has you entering dark rooms and searching for light switches, and also why there's all the stuff in there about Psycho House, the guy who lived there before, the Ouija board stuff, etc. I liked that there was a few other story threads that weren't really highlighted, but if you read every page of every note you pick up on it. It complemented the main story of Sam and Lonnie really well, and made the whole experience much more interesting.

  • Nova-111 - ??:?? completed on 7-16-16
[2/5] I love the concept and really enjoyed the first third of the game. At some point it just became an boring slog that took way too long. I hated how I never knew which way to go upon entering a space. I hated how most later enemies all blend together.

  • Assault Android Cactus - ??:?? completed on 7-24-16
(4/5) Awesome game that I wasn't really expecting to like very much. All of the characters are different enough that I found myself switching throughout the campaign as differing challenges arose. Why do the cutscene animations look like the characters are underwater? I wish this had a leveling mechanic, but at least new characters were unlocked often.

  • Furi - ??:?? completed on 7-24-16
(2/5) This is such an awesome concept. It's a beautiful game with an interesting, mysterious story and gameplay that gets right to the good part. But none of that matters when the game's difficulty is so stupidly balanced, and I say that as someone who enjoys difficult games. It's really not even the difficulty, it's that the game is stupid hard and places such a small limit on your lives. Forcing me to replay a segment because I lost all my health is fine, but forcing me to start the entire fight over again because I ran out of lives is just too much. In short, the game's difficulty is pretty great, but it's just too punishing when you fall short. And that's on normal ("Furi" difficulty), which feels like it should be "hard." Easy ("Prominade" difficulty) is way too easy. All the game really needed was a step between or to remove the lives limit. Oh, and the walking segments between bosses are one of the worst design decisions I've seen in a very long time, but at least you can auto walk.

August: Game 36-42

  • Doom - ??:?? completed on 8-4-16
(5/5) A true rebirth for Doom, with the same success as Wolfenstein. Not a perfect game, but pretty damn close and incredibly fun to boot. The kill rooms got a little exhausting by the end, although that may have something to do with my shift from playing a level at a time to 3 and 4 level marathons. I wish they would use more open design and less arenas/kill rooms, but I must applaud the game for what it is. I don't know when I last experienced such fun and frantic combat, where the movement and weaponry felt so freeing.

  • The Fall - ??:?? completed on 8-19-16
(4/5) Really cool adventure game with a decent little story. I found it to be a little too difficult and tedious in parts, but other than a glitch which unknowingly held up my progress I never had to look up an answer. It's a good length for how hard it is, and it was over right around the time that I wanted it to be over. Really good experience all around.

  • The Legend of the Mystical Ninja - 5:30 completed on 8-20-16
(4/5) As a kid, this was always one of my favorite games. I would rent it all the time, but I never could beat it because I would always write the passwords down wrong. The game has aged super well IMO, but the difficulty curve towards the end is pretty brutal.

  • Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D - ??:?? completed on 8-21-16
(3/5) I love the graphics, the intricate backgrounds, and the sound. I'm not a huge fan of 2.5d platformers, because I prefer the precision of sprites. Also, 30fps really hurt this game. And the bosses have too much health.

  • King's Quest Chapter 1 - ??:?? completed on 8-24-16
(5/5) An awesome relaunching of a beloved series. It made just enough references to older games to make me feel like this really was King Graham, and that these new devs know their stuff. The VO was good, but they should have gotten the OG Graham actor. That's my biggest complaint and I'm still kinda angry about it.

Also I should say that I normally wouldn't count an episode of a game as a full game, but these are bigger and pricier episodes. It took at least 10 hours for me to complete this first chapter.

  • Day of the Tentacle Remaster - 7:44 completed on 8-29-16
(3/5) This PnC is better than some others I've played, but it still suffers from those old works sensibilities, such as excessive difficulty and puzzles that are sometimes based more on punchlines than logic. I liked some of the time travel stuff, but inventory management across the 3 characters was a serious chore. I prefer the old pixel art (such as the art of King's Quest 5 and 6) a lot more than this cartoon style, but it grew on me. Also, this game is actually pretty funny at times.

(1/5) A beautiful game with what is maybe a good story. I can't say for sure because I was so bored that I tuned out. I started to get interested at the end, but by then I was just trying to push through. Also, fuck The Chinese Room for this walking speed.

Ran out of space in this post, so September (and beyond) will be posted here.

bender

What time is it?
Going for two years in a row!

1. SOMA (PS4) ~9 Hours 1/3/16

2. Amplitude (PS4) ~3 Hours 1/5/16
Campaign - Intermediate

3. Diablo III - Reaper of Souls ~20 Hours 1/12/16
Finished on hardcore/reached level 70 with my Demon Hunter.

4. 1943 (PS3)~1.5 Hours 1/12/16
So many virtual quarters.

5. Metroid: Zero Mission (Wii U) ~6 Hours 1/15/16
Probably my favorite Metroid game.

6. Just Cause 3 (PS4) ~30 Hours 1/18/16
Disappointed! All the systems in the game feel tacked on and there are very few story missions which isn't a bad thing considering the lack of quality in them.

7. Spelunky (PS4) ~1 Hours 1/19/16
Olmec, 2/15/16 - Yama, 4/4/16 - Yama

8. The Witness (PS4) ~25 Hours 1/30/16
Wonderfully crafted and vibrant world. Blow might have taken the concept of line puzzles as far as they can go and maybe to far. Sometimes the difficulty feels uneven and sometimes it can get annoying but those instances are in the minority.

9. Bayonetta 2 (Wii U) ~9 Hours 1/31/16
Lot's of 'WOW" moments.

10. Unravel (PS4) ~8 Hours 2/11/16
Stunning visuals and good but not great game play. In that manner, it reminds me a lot of Puppeteer.

11. Firewatch (PS4) ~5 Hours 2/13/16
Technical mess and the story doesn't have enough of a pay off to warrant suffering through the terrible frame rate and crashes.

12. That Dragon Cancer (PC) ~2 Hours 2/14/16
Heartbreaking. I can't help but wonder if it would have been better as something non-interactive. The "game" sections aren't very good and are very jarring.

13. Streets of Rage (3DS) ~1 Hours 2/15/16

14. Street Fighter V (PS4) ~1 Hours 2/15/16
Skimpy single player.

15. Superhot (PC) ~2 Hours 2/27/16
Fun mechanics but a fucking weird experience.

16. BroForce (PS4) ~8 Hours 3/2/16
It probably overstays it's welcome before the final act where the frame rate goes to shit and turns a ho-hum experience into something frustrating.

17. I Am Alive (PS3) ~7 Hours 3/5/16
Played on the hardest difficulty level and enjoyed the challenge. The visuals look dated even by 2012 standards. I really like scarcity of resources but the combat mechanics feel a little off, probably due to the weapons locking on.

18. Assault Android Cactus (PS4) ~8 Hours 3/13/16
Feels like a love letter to Dreamcast game.

19. Daed or Alive Xtreme 3 Fortune (PS4) ~4 Hours 4/9/16
Volleyball is simple but fun. The rest of the mini games are brain dead.

20. Enter the Gungeon (PS4) ~Who knows? 418/16
Great rogue-like. Still so much left to explore. A few performance issues here and there.

21. Day of the Tentacle Remastered (PS4) ~6 Hours 5/3/16
First time playing and only got tripped a few times but so much easier than the Sierra titles I grew up with. Really charming game.

22. Uncharted 4 (PS4) ~15 Hours 5/16/16
Visually stunning but even with wider paths to platform and larger arenas for gun fights, the core mechanics feel stale.

23. Dark Souls 3 (PS4) ~100 Hours 5/23/16
Still love exploring and these games and it has some very memorable bosses.

24. Ratchet and Clank (PS4) ~12 Hours 06/11/16
Solid game and I'd mostly forgotten playing through the original. It's real easy on the eyes but the writing hasn't aged well at all.

25. Gone Home (PS4) ~30 Minutes 06/11/16
2nd play through for me and not really worth revisiting.

26. NBA2k16 (PS4) ~5 Hours 06/17/16
Finished the story mode. LOL

27. Street Fighter V Story Mode (PS4) ~3 Hours 07/01/16
It takes inspiration from MK9 and isn't as well done but probably better than I expected. Some really bad frame rate issues and could have had better balance/variety in characters used.

28. Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell (PS4) ~5 Hours 07/11/16
Terrible. Fucking Terrible.

29. Song of the Deep (PS4) ~8 Hours 07/12/16
Terrible performance but otherwise completely forgettable.

30. Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS3) ~ 5 Hours 07/18/16

31. Rhythm Heaven Megamix (3DS) ~12 Hours 07/20/16
Plain fucking awesome.

32. Street Fighter V - Story Mode - Extra (PS4) ~2 Hours 07/22/2016
Some really tough battles but manageable.

33. Bloodborne (PS4) 07/23/16

34. Hyper Light Drifter (PS4) 7/26/16
Lovely art and music. Didn't really click with the game but it is not bad by any means.

35. Abzu (PS4) ~2.5 Hours 08/02/16

36. Overwatch (PS4) 08/03/16
Level 100

36. Overwatch (PS4) 08/21/16
Level 200

37. Bound (PS4) ~2 Hours 08/22/16
Stunning visually and the animations are top tier which almost makes up for the dull mechanics

38. Solitarica (IOS) ~4 Hours 08/26/16
Neat riff on solitaire but some of the later bosses are annoying (not hard, just time consuming.

39. Typing of the Dead (PC) ~2 Hours 08/26/16
I forgot how much fun this game is.

40. AM2R (PC) ~6 Hours 08/28/16

41. Tricky Towers (PS4) ~8 Hours 08/30/16

42. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (PS4) `20 Hours 9/4/16
Neat side missions and fun to explore but the main narrative is boiler plate.

43. Doom (PS4) ~14 Hours 09/06/16
Love the moment to moment action but I can't say I'm a fan of all the surrounding trappings (upgrades, challenges, brutal finishers).

44. FORZA Horizon 3 (XBox One)

45. Dark Soulds 3: Ashes of Ariandel (PS4)

46. RE4 (PS4)

47. Rise of the Tomb Raider (PS4) ~ 15 Hours
So many damned collectibles, bad boss battles and it becomes a slog towards the end. I do like the bows though.

48. TitanFall 2 (PS4) ~7 Hours
Good variety and doesn't overstay its' welcome.

49. Dead Space 2 (PS3) ~12 Hours
Doesn't hold up as well as I thought but it is still an enjoyable romp.

50. Battlefield One (PS4) ~8 Hours
Surprisingly fun even with the poor AI. I had a lot of flashback to playing the Delta Force games.

51. Gears of War 4 (XboxOne) ~10 Hours
Most of the new enemies and weapons aren't great. The Gnasher and shooting the locust still feels right.

52. The Last Guardian (PS4) ~10 Hours

Game #1 - Trails of Cold Steel - 1/7/16 (72 hours)
This ended up being significantly longer than I was expecting. The story definitely had more high points than the the TiTS games and it held onto them for longer, rather than immediately going back into daily life. The school setting really wasn't as big as it was made out to be either. I liked that even though you went on field studies to different areas, you were still at the school long enough to really get into everyone's lives on the school and how they developed. The music was amazing and the cliffhanger was about as spot on as people said it was. Really looking forward to the 2nd one later this year and likely replaying this one before it.

Game #2 - Nekopara Vol. 0 - 1/12/16 (50mins)
More of the catgirls doing catgirl things, doesn't take anything more than that to be uguu.

Moe-Chronicle-555x250.jpg

Game #3 - Moe Chronicles
- 1/15/16 (30 hours)
Simply amazing. Being the biggest pervert in the world means that you have a desire strong enough to affect all the monster girls and make them turn against humans if you let that desire out. You know you have a high class game when some of the class perks are "cute butt", "tsundere" and various bust sizes. The game is also nothing but battling H (hentai) monsters, rubbing the monster girls and picking out different panties for each of them to change stats. It also featured some of the best Engrish I have ever seen. Ended up just finishing the story for now and may or may not go back later for the rest.

Game #4 - Firefly Diary - 1/19/16 (5 hours)
Wanted to go ahead and finish off the platinum for this and go through it again this year. The story actually made more sense this time around since I wasn't actively hunting a bunch of random trophies and missing memory fragments along the way. Screw that memory game boss though, the majority of my playtime ended up being trying to chance my way into the final trophy off of it.

Atelier-Escha-Logy-Plus_Logo01-e1453862756238-392x169.jpg

Game #5 - Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky - 1/27/16 (35 hours)
As my first outing into the series, I expected a little more with how much it's brought up. I've always liked the artstyle of Gust games, just never actually played one before. The music wasn't all that bad, just character themes are repeated a bit too much since every time you see an event with a character in town, their theme plays. The characters were mainly what I expected more of. The development was very minimal for every character other than Escha/Logy, even that didn't seem to really go places till closer to the end. The story was also another issue, with the main plot point not even coming to light until 2/3rds of the way through the game. Overall it wasn't a bad game, just it felt a bit too lighthearted which didn't carry the game as well as I had hoped. I ended up finishing with Escha's story and plan on doing Logy's at some point.

Game #6 - Ys 1 - 2/1/16 (5 hours)
I really wish they would look at this and it's sequel already for a full remake that changes the combat. The lack of magic or anything ranged is really what brings this one down for me, mainly because I've never been a fan of bump combat. The music has aged incredibly well (as is does in most Falcom games), but everything else really just doesn't compare to any of the other games in the series. Also screw Dark Fact, the only final boss that has made me lower the difficulty just to be able to beat him.

Game #22 - Ys 2 - 4/24/16 (6 hours)
This has aged far better than 1 has. I still think the battle system should be gone back over if they ever did another full remake, but the use of magic made this one infinitely more fun than the first.

diablo-3-reaper-of-souls-640x227.jpg

Game #7 - Diablo 3 - 2/7/16 (10+ hours)
More of the rift grinding and going after season rewards, liking how much they're doing in each of these patches.

tales-of-hearts-r-logo.jpg

Game #8 - Tales of Hearts R - 2/10/16 (37 hours)
Had this game remained how it was for the first half, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it very much in the end. It took time for about half the cast to come into their own and I just didn't like some of them before they got to a certain point in development. The skits definitely ended up being the highlight when it came to development, while the story itself was a bit lacking at times. Also didn't really like how fast certain events were put aside
(looking at you Peridot/Pyrox's death)
, even when the characters in said events were some of the better developed.

steinsgate_logo.png

Game #9 - Steins Gate - 2/19/16 (30 hours)
Mind fuck: the game. Don't know why it took me so long to take notice of this one, guess I should look into VNs more often. I enjoyed the true ending far more than the others, but even though the others aren't canon, I still enjoyed them too (even if some were sad as hell). I definitely consider this to be part of my top tier of games, even without any actual gameplay. I look forward to playing SG 0 if we ever get it over here.

header.jpg

Game #10 - A Bird Story - 2/24/16 (1 hour)
Without dialogue I didn't feel like this held up as well as To the Moon, still enjoyed the music and hoping to see the next game to this series eventually.

header.jpg

Game #11 - GemCraft: Chasing Shadows
- 2/26/16 (10+ hours)
Really nice tower defense game with loads of content, only real issue I have with it is it maybe takes a bit too long to reach the better tower skill unlocks.

digimon-super-sleuth-badge-01-ps4-eu-15jun15

Game #12 - Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - 3/14/16 (67 hours)
I went into this will already high expectations and was still impressed by the end. The plot twists may be about as obvious as ever and some of the characters feel like they get thrown in just to immediately be shoved aside, but the gameplay is where it really shines. For the first week I probably spent more time evolving things than I did actually progressing the story, there's just so much to the evolution system. This is also far and away the best looking Vita games I have played so far, honestly amazed at what they were able to accomplish on the hardware, without the framerate taking a constant hit.

imgsuper%20mario%20bros2.jpg

Games #13 - 16 - Super Mario Bros 1-3 + Lost Levels - 3/15/16 (30mins - 1 hour each)
Wanted to go ahead and burn through these again to see if they got any easier since the last time. Outside of Lost Levels, they became much easier, probably due to me not worrying about finally being able to finish them for once. Lost Levels on the other hand can go jump off a cliff, even being prepared for certain level sections ahead of time didn't make the timing any easier to get right.

12.png

Game #17 - Senran Kagura Estival Versus - 3/23/16 (32 hours)
I feel like there was some actual plot to the story, but it was thrown to the side in place of all the other plot. I mean big boobs are nice and all, but when you have them flopping all over the place at all times, it kinda makes any serious moments turn into a joke. Some of the characters I liked, most I just felt like they didn't get nearly enough time in the spotlight to really have anything to them other than their plot. Actually liked some of the side stories more than the actual story since they at least stuck to one idea, where as the main story was all over the place. I liked the combat for the most part other than how easy it became to cheese things once you were able to start spamming specials nonstop, the blocking mechanic was also pretty terrible and probably could have used a dedicated dodge in it's place. Finished it with a platinum.

header.jpg

Game #18 - Unepic - 3/29/16 (16 hours)
This was not on my radar at all, yet it ended up being pretty good in the end. All the game/pop culture references were probably what did it. Played through the game on the hardest difficulty and kept regretting that decision every single time I died and got sent back 20+ mins, which happened a good dozen times.

trillion-god-of-destruction-ps-vita-north-america-europe-2016-2.jpg

Game #19 - Trillion: God of Destruction
- 4/10/16 (40 hours)
I felt like if the game had focused on just 1 or 2 elements, it would have been better for it. The characters were fairly well done and there was actually a sense of loss each time you lost one, something that I don't feel enough games focus on. At the same time I feel like this would have been even better had the VN elements been focused on even more, rather than the sim element which got tiring after so long. I ended with 2 of the endings and will probably go back later for a few more.

DungeonTravelers2_FINAL_LOGO-195x110.png

Game #20 - Dungeon Travelers 2 - 4/17/16 (60 hours)
Continuing through post game this time and at the point where I can probably finish it off within another week, but I have other games I want to play. For now I need an extended break from the grinding. I may go back to it later in the year or may just hold off till next, considering there's even more drpgs coming this year and I'm tired of seeing the same enemy models after 140 hours so far. Finally got the platinum as well.

croppedimage640200-earth-defence-force-2-trailer-image.jpg

Game #21 - Earth Defense Force 2 - 4/22/16 (30 hours)
Good dumb fun. Played through the of the game on easy/normal as Pale Wing mainly due to the mobility and played around with the others for a few dozen missions. Honestly didn't enjoy Air Raider all that much, don't know if it was just the weapons I was using, but it really felt slow going and I couldn't get down fighting enemies in the air very well. Will probably go back to get some easy trophies later on, but with online larger dead, I won't be attempting to go after the platinum.

Stranger_of_Sword_City_New_Full_Logo.jpg

Game #23 - Stranger of Sword City - 5/5/16 (35 hours)
While the difficulty was real on a handful of bosses, most of the game was actually on the easier side, even on normal. Normal fights could be ended in a matter of seconds and most bosses would fall over if you had kept up to date on gear. The "perma-death" feature was also completely overblown as it was easily bypassed with a save reload. I enjoyed it far more than Demon Gaze, but I enjoy it quite a bit more when the challenge is more than only a few bosses.

Soul-Sacrifice-Delta.png

Game #24 - Soul Sacrifice Delta - 5/16/16 (30 hours)
Took a few hours to really get going since the beginning was so easy, but it ended up being really great after that. The story actually had a good amount of depth to it and Mitsuda really brought out the soundtrack. In some aspects I'd say it's better than Freedom Wars and in others it fell short. I mainly liked that the ai had some amount of competence to it, unlike FW where your partners constantly got hit by everything. What really got to me though were all the solo missions as the story progressed. You go from being able to not have to constantly watch where you're standing, to having to learn the dance on each boss, because a single combo or heavy attack could result in death and failing the mission.

Game #25 - Atelier Escha & Logy Plus: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky - 5/30/16 (22 hours)
Decided to go through this again this year with the plan to finish the platinum, found out I messed that up on my first playthrough and it would require a 3rd run to do so, which isn't happening at least for now. Wasn't going to count this again if Logy's story ended up being different enough to consider it part of the first run, but in the end it was almost all the same only with a few different events. Some of my thoughts still stand from my 1st run, but I do feel like the characters at least aren't as bad as I made them out to be.

Game #26 - Half Life 2 - 6/27/16 (11 hours)
This was actually the first time I played through this. Ended up playing through most of it on normal until I got the the very end and kept getting mowed down by the walkers. Overall the game was pretty great other than that difficulty spike. Might get the 2 episodes and play through them as well at some point now.

Game #27 - Persona 4 Golden - 7/6/16 (69 hours)
Took a while to get back to this after stopping my run 3 hours in almost a year ago. It lives up to it's fame in some regards, while having some rather noticeable flaws that bring it down some. The characters and music were what really made it stand out, while the dungeon design made me dread every time I was coming up to a new dungeon. Honestly not sure why people whine so much about the English VA work either when it wasn't so bad other than maybe Nanako and Teddy.

Game #28 - Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;birth 1 - 7/13/16 (28 hours)
Playing through the series again this year, this time with trophies. I honestly feel like this one hasn't aged as well as Rebirth 2. The humor is still there and it was nice being able to notice more of the references this time around, I just felt like something was missing compared to last year. Ended up getting all the trophies except the credits one....screw that for now.

Games played 3/52

1: Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen (PC)

Played this gem on PS3 when it first came out, but the performance really did hold the game back. This was before I became more sensitive to low framerates (I was a console only gamer at the time), so the performance was especially bad for me to take notice. Thanks to this, I never did get to finish Bitterblack Isle.

I've enjoyed the game on PC so much more, though knowing how to grow my character made the game a little too easy from the start. Big monsters were dying too fast, I couldn't enjoy the amazing music :(

2: World's Dawn

A farming/life sim in the same style as Harvest Moon. More akin to the more classic HM games, such as Friends of Mineral town.

I really enjoyed the game, and thought the artwork was beautifully done. I felt the writing was definitely a step up from the Harvest Moon games, though wish there was a bit more focus on the actual farming aspect of the game.

3: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Remastered

Not much to say, still a great game, and the reduced load times and improved frame rate make it even better. Also, fuck that Jetski section still!

I might as well try this but i know im either gonna forget, or not do it.

Quick question im playing MGS3 right this second and i beat the original one with the shitty camera. Would this count if i beat the game before? Or do they have to be games ive never played before?

They can be replays.

Claimed. This seems like an interesting thing to do.

Progress 43/52

Game 1: Dead Space 3 - 11h. [January 2nd]
You had a winning formula, why change it. WHY

Game 2: The Swapper - 4.5h [January 3rd]
Interesting, short little game. Quite the looker.

Game 3: The Saboteur - 11h [January 12th]
Quite good, a bit clanky missing one or two key features.

Game 4: Mega Man X2 (Mega Man X Collection) - 3h [January 14th]
Not as good as X, but better than the stuff after X4

Game 5: Mega Man X3 (Mega Man X Collection) - 5h [January 14th]
Much better than 2, and quite hard. At least until you get a certain upgrade that completely brakes the game.

Game 6: Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen (PC Version) - 62h (2 BBI Runs) [January 30]
Satisfying as fuck combat and great , if sometimes unfair, content in Bitterblack Isle. Main and side quests leave a lot to be desired.

Game 7: Bioshock 2 - 14h [February 6th]
Good, a bit better than its predecessor. Minerva's Den is an impressive piece of DLC

Game 8: Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 - 6h (Story mode) [February 9th]
CC2 are still masters at presentation, it's quite a ride considering the disastrous material. The few changes to the battle system makes it better but still easy/abusable

Game 9: Street Fighter V - 30h+ [February 21th]
Great. Lack of key modes at launch date and certain server problems the following days. The core gameplay is amazing.

Game 10: Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc - 20h [February 26th]
Interesting characters and setting, while some of the plot was easily predictable

Game 11: Deadpool - 8h [February 29th]
Not bad for such a generic game, humor is more miss than hit.

Game 12: Ys I (Chronicles+) - 9h [March 3rd]
I was taken aback by how much fun such a simple 'bump' combat can be. Soundtrack is out of this world.

Game 13: Life is Strange - 15h [March 6th]
Great characters with interesting interactions and music choices. I have quite a few problems with the last episode but all in all it wraps up beautifully.

Game 14: Tales of Phantasia (PSX Ver.) - 37h [March 18th]
It's a good game, but goddamn can it be completely frustrating and unfair at times. The game expects you to cheese certain fights.

Game 15: Dark Souls 3 - 33h (First run + optional areas) [May 1st]
Amazing. The only thing that keeps it from beating Dark Souls is that way too many builds are only viable late in the game.

Game 16: Titan Quest: Immortal Throne - 30h [May 13th]
Great co-op game, probably the best D2 clone i've played

Game 17: Syndicate (2012) - 8h [May 28th]
Pleasantly surprised with this one, i was expecting a generic FPS but the shooting is quite satisfactory and so is the soundtrack and UI.

Game 18: Prey - 7h [May 29th]
While gunplay is very basic, the levels themselves are quite fun and a bit puzzly. Gunfights are too easy.

Game 19: Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair - 30h [June 4th]
Not much different from its predecessor, the gameplay additions are more nuisance than upgrades to the gameplay. I found the characters much more interesting these time around as well.

Game 20: Mafia II - 13h [June 8th]
Too much going back and forth, while the map is not very big the lack of a fast travel is big disadvantage. It also kinda misses the charm of the first one.

Game 21: Final Fantasy X Remastered HD - 10h+ [June 15th]
I played it on PS2, and while not part of my favourites in the series it is quite good. Graphical enhacements are ok, but nothing too mindblowing. Could use 60fps

Game 22: Batman: Arkham Origins - 16h [June 20th]
Not bad, but it's a huge stepdown from City. Innovations are few and scarce, sidequests are boring and most of the time tedious. I've encounter quite a few graphical bugs and crashes in the PC version. DLC is quite good.

Game 23: The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker - 31h [July 16th]
The game is good and dungeons are, mostly, fun but the exploration is boring and strenuous. This problem just keeps getting worse when nearing the end.

Game 24: Virtue's Last Reward - 30h [July 28th]
Excellent. Voice acting is top notch, gameplay changes from 999 are great. But i still prefer 999.

Game 25: Zero Time Dilemma - 22h [July 31st]
I'm not sure about this one. It is a good game, but some thing are..off. Voice acting is all over the place. Puzzles are great fun but way too easy. Many scenes lose impact because of terrible animation. Sountrack is perfect. 999 can't be topped.

Game 26: SUPERHOT - 4h [July 31st]
Fun, short and memorable. Must be recommended.

Game 27: Oxenfree - 5h [August 5th]
Very good. Character interaction is great, specially when paired with such a great voice acting. It gets eerie as fuck.

Game 28: Metroid Prime - 12h [August 23th]
Excellent, and save for a difficulty spike in the mines area quite easy.

Game 29: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies - 24h [September 3rd]
Good, but not much more than that. Case 3 and 5 are pretty good the others are quite bad. Animated cutscenes are mediocre at best.

Game 30: One Piece - Burning Blood - 6h [September 9th]
Not bad, whilist not a fighter it actually does the job well of not feeling like a 1v1 beat em up. There are a balancing issues but that's expected from this kind of game.

Game 31: Bound By Flame - 14h [September 10th]
Mediocre. Combat system is dull, plot is as predictable as it can get. Voice acting is surprisingly good.

Game 32: Dragon Age: Origins - 44h [September 13th]
Amazing. Now this is a good RPG. Combat is great, although there are many situations that are unfair or disgustingly easy. Story and characters are good, if cliché. There are a ton of good side quests.

Game 33: Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Campaign) - 6h [September 22nd]
Not bad. Shooting is acceptable, diferrent weapons actually feel different, locations are varied.

Game 34: Call Of Duty: World At War (Campaign) - 7h [September 29th]
I really enjoyed this one. Maybe it's because i like the WWII setting more, or that it reminds me of the early CoD or Medal of Honor titles. I loved the stylization of the mission briefings

Game 35: Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Campaign) - 7h [October 14th]
Eh. It ain't bad, but it is just more of the same. Also, why the fuck can't I lean.

Game 36: Ys II (Chronicles +) - 8h [October 23rd]
Much like its predecessor, its fun, short, and has a kickass soundtrack.

Game 37: Thumper - 4h+ [October 24th]
Very good. It is simple in its rythm mechanics, but the fast paced naturte of the gameplay makes it quite hard and addictive. I only reached lvl 6, but i see myself booting up the game over time to get further.

Game 38: Digimon World (replay) - 6h [October 28th]
I fucking love this game. I always try to squeeze some time to play it once a year. Even the bugs are part of the charm.

Game 39: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 - 15h [November 5th]
Eh. It's not bad, it's better than its predecessor but not by much. It's more akin to an expansion than a sequel.

Game 40: Sniper Elite V2 - 6h [November 7th]
I gotta say, i'm quite dissapointed with this one. I loved the demo of the game a few years ago, but the demo offered everything the full game did, sans a few cool targets. It's just not a good enough shooter to carry the game's length.

Game 41: Sid Meier's Civilization VI - 20h+ [November 8th]
Very good. The only downside I can find is that AI is easily manipulable and, as such, diplomacy is very abusable.

Game 42: Grim Dawn - 15h+ [November 18th]
Very good, loved the setting. Still gotta play it with friends to see if it is better than Titan Quest.

Game 43: God Eater Ressurrection - 6h [December 1st]
[II]Almost nothing clicked with this game. Weapon variety seems boring, enemy design is insipid. Maybe it gets better with time, but i'm not willing to invest anymore on it. [/I]

I'm all in!

Game 1: Super Mario Bros. (NES) 6-7 minutes

Starting the year off with a quick speedrun. Eh, why not? I still love the song that plays when you rescue the princess. Famicom as Fuck.

Game 2: Grow Home (PS4) 3 hours

This is another replay and I knew I wanted to replay it ever since I finished it in one sitting last year. It is my feel-good game. All I need to do is just put a good podcast on and turn on this game, then nothing else matters. When I replayed it I caught myself smiling every now and then. But even then, it wasn't as fun as I thought it would be and I probably won't replay it again for a very long time. That's because I thought I heard this game had a procedurally generated world. I thought that every new game you start everything is in a different place so it's like a new experience every time. That's one of the reasons why I was so eager to replay it. But I think whomever told me that was referring to the plant and how you can direct its branches yourself and that's not the same thing I had in mind. So unfortunately the replay was not without some disappointment. It was still a fun game that I highly recommend, but it's in dire need of a sequel.

Game 3: Axiom Verge (PC) 13 hours, 52 minutes

I was so hyped to play this last year. I received it as an indiebox and I'm glad that I got it that way because I got stuck in the middle and couldn't find a way forward. There are also no walkthroughs on GameFaqs so I was about to put it down. But then I remembered the box came with a complete map and it had numbered items that pretty much serves as a walkthrough. Huzzah!

Overall, the game is great, it's among the best games released in recent memory, but not perfect like a lot of reviewers seem to claim. In fact, Guacamelee is a better metroidvania in my opinion. The game looks too similar in many places and that makes it very easy to get lost. A lot of the textures just look like different colored wallpaper and that doesn't help. The music repeats too often. The story is also pretty meh in my opinion. And the wall teleporting is a really cheap and confusing gameplay mechanic. When I see a wall, I take that to mean that I can't go any further or I need to find another way around. With the teleporting mechanic it really screws that up and I feel the game suffers because of it.

But I liked a lot of the mechanics it introduced like the little drone and the pixel art is amazing. The game is still great but I think people are a little too eager forgive its flaws because they know it was all made by one guy. But I challenge you to play The Last Penelope, that game was also made by one guy and it has an excellent variety of music and scenery. Again, the game isn't bad but it has some serious flaws.

Game 4: Downwell (PC) 32 hours

At the end of last year, I expected Fallout 4 to take over my life until I beat it. I was wrong, Downwell got in the way. The game is so addictive and perfectly balanced. Sometimes it could seem a little unfair. But it's an excellent game that I was happy to sink time into. I'm waiting for the iPhone version to go on sale for $1 so I can double dip!

Game 5: Please Don't Touch Anything (PC) 20 minutes

I bought this game along with some others during the winter Steam sale and could only get one ending. It was so frustrating and while I refunded other games that didn't agree with me, for some reason I couldn't let this one go. I put my pride aside and looked up some tips on YouTube and figured out how to unlock the crazier endings and I love it! It's really more of a one-n-done game after you figure out how to get the other stuff and see it. But it's still enjoyable nonetheless.

Game 6: 140 (PC) 97 minutes

This game has a beautiful minimalist design. It's sort of hard to describe, it's like a platforming rhythm game if that makes any sense. Usually I'm terrible at rhythm games because I have no rhythm and I'm tone deaf, but aside from some frustrating parts this was still an enjoyable experience. I was so surprised to find out it has boss battles. It has all the best emotions you feel when playing any other traditional game whether it's puzzling, relaxing, exciting, frustrating, rewarding, etc... You get all of those emotions and that's what makes this such a good game. I would recommend it to anyone, especially since it's on sale so regularly.

Same shit, different year - Let's do this!

My personal ground rules (on top of VisceralBowl's general guidelines):

1. If I own all episodes of an episodic game when I start playing, then beating them all counts as just one game. If I own just the one episode, and do not plan to play more because I did not enjoy it, then that counts as one game by itself... But subsequently buying and finishing more episodes (if I liked the first) will not add to my completed game count.
2. No "re-finishing" any short games I've already beaten to avoid padding my stats.
3.DLC doesn't count as a separate game.

Game 1: Child of Light (Vita) - 20 hours
1/1/2016 - Started last year, but powered through to finish. Interesting concept but marred in execution both in design and technically as playing on the Vita which had more crashes then I've had in years. It almost kept me from trying to finish and I had to abandon some side quests because everytime I fast traveled it would hard crash. 2/5

Game 2: Gitaroo Man Lives (PSP) - 3 hours
1/6/2016 - It was on my stack of old games for the year that I wanted to get through, and of course I picked the shortest one first. I thought it was neat rhythm game that was ultimately fairly shallow, and completely eclipsed in just about every way by Parappa. The localization/Voice acting sure is hilarious though. I spent a little too long on it because my PSP circle button misses taps once out of every 20 times or so, which made it a bit tougher. 2/5

Game 3: Amplitude (PS4) - 4 hours
1/8/2016 - Played through the campaign on medium difficulty as well as playing through the rest of the songs. I may go back later and keep playing, but I wasn't a huge fan of the song selections. Was a good evening play through though. Having backed it on Kickstarter I am fairly happy with how it turned out - ie it was just about exactly what I backed if not showing up a bit late and feeling a tad rushed from a features/song list perspective 3/5

Game 4: Cradle (PC) - 7 hours
1/10/2016 Super interesting world, but loads of technical issues on PC. Of all things, the framerate we 20 fps better when having a controller plugged in... The ending was not great at explaining itself. I realize part of the fun of this type of game is to really suss out the details on your own, but had to go look at an explanation to get it. The puzzle rooms were garbage though and the game would have been better at 3 hours with none of those in it at all. 3/5

Game 5: The Witness (PS4) - 35 hours
2/11/2016 - Really hard game to quantify. I got to the ending, but not the true ending, but I'll count it as a win. I really enjoyed the puzzles, but honestly think the game itself could have handled narrative better. In which case an even less is more approach might have endeared itself more to me. It felt obtuse for no real reason, but that doesn't take away from the gorgeous world, and fairly interesting puzzle mechanics that were learned throughout. 4/5

Game 6: Firewatch (PC) 4 Hours
2/13/2016 - Incredible art direction, Incredible voice direction, Incredible tension, all without any payoff. I really liked where everything was going and then it all kind of fell apart. Kudos to Campo Santo though on a stellar debut that got way more right then wrong. Also one of the first narrative games I've played on an ultrawide screen monitor and it was spectacular. 4/5

Game 7: Fire Emblem Fates - Birthright (3DS) 16 Hours
2/21/2016 - Birthright lives up to it's billing as more Fire Emblem Awakening. Really happy there was a
Donnel equivalent that I could max to best character status
. Since it was more of the same and I thought the castle stuff was kind of garbage, it maybe doesn't quite have the freshness of Awakening, but it was a good time all around. I'm really excited to dive into Conquest. 4/5

Game 8: Life is Strange Complete Season (PS4) 14 Hours
2/28/2016 - Really just a well told story filled with memorable characters. Certainly there were issues, but it tried and mostly succeeded at making a sci fi thriller that pays off pretty well. Can't wait to see what comes from Dontnod next.
Poor Warren
Could count as 5 seperate games, but I think it works really well as a whole, and I finished it in a couple sittings over the weekend, so besides the cliffhangers it felt like one complete game. 5/5

Game 9: Samorost 1 & 2 (PC) 1.5 Hours
3/27/2016: Wanted to play through the first games in the series before going to 3 since I really love both Machinarium and Botanicula. Super simplistic, but the style and aesthetic are definitely all there. Worth a play through with a drink and a spare hour 3/5

Game 10: The Magic Circle (PC) 4 Hours
4/1/2016: A really interesting premise with a fairly novel mechanic, I have grown to dislike the audio log narrative, but it works a bit better in The Magic Circle since it is fairly baked into the narrative. Well written and making an interesting statement about both overzealous creators and entitled fans, I think it was mostly successful in telling the story it set out to. Oddly I think playing from an isometric view may have had the benefit of making ally management and movement more intuitive, but as it was such a short game, there really wasn't a whole lot of time to fight with the controls. 3/5

Game 11: Hyper Light Drifter (PC) 7 Hours
4/3/2016: Was a Kickstarter backer on this one and am incredibly happy with the outcome. It delivered on sublime combat, interesting encounters, fun bosses, and was all wrapped in an audio visual package that really makes a statement. There were a few technical issues, but overall I think it is one of the better games I've played in a long time. The upgrade system was a bit wonky, but lead to a really great health management system that made every fight feel tense since taking 3 hits in a row without healing would pretty much always mean death. The bosses were interesting and towed the line really well of challenging yet manageable, with patterns that could be learned and exploited. A really great game that I hope more people end up playing since it seems like it was a real labor of love through its development. 5/5

Game 12: Tales From the Borderlands (PS4) 12 Hours
4/9/2016: I enjoy Telltale games, and this was a pretty good Telltale game. It added to the source material while not feeling too beholden to it. Handsome Jack wasn't nearly as annoying as he was in Borderlands 2 (Having not played the Pre Sequel), and the characters worked for me pretty well. Besides being a bit predictable, and having somewhat lopsided choices, I would whole heatedly recommend anyone with an interest to go for it. It was a better ride then Season 2 of the Walking Dead, and I think proves that the TT formula can still lead to a quality product in the end. Also, music licensing was A+ for this with the title sequences being one of the highlights of each episode. I mean hey any game with
James Blake
has to be at least a 4 out of 5. 4/5

Game 13: Miracle Girls Festival (Vita) 7 Hours
5/5/2016: In an attempt to buy all the rhythm games on my Trip to Japan, I picked up a copy of MGF, and it is just Anime Project Diva. It is a bit thin at 22 songs, but it was enjoyable for what it was. Has a story mode that is really repetative, but hey, I really like playing the themes from Haiyore! Nyaruko-san so it wasn't all bad. 3/5

Game 14: Project Diva X (Vita) 10 Hours
5/8/2016: Being somewhat dissapointed with the songs in F 2nd, I quite enjoyed the avaliable songs selection in X. The formula might be a bit stale, and I think I still might prefer IA/VT, but I'm glad I picked up a copy before it comes stateside later in the year. The medley songs are pretty solid, even if the story mode is unnecessary. My TV isn't super lag free, so I quite enjoy playing the diva entries on the Vita. 4/5

GAME 1: Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex strikes back
Jan 2nd, Run time: 5 hr and 2 minutes

A classic in it's own right and leagues better then the first one, there's really nothing to be said about this beyond how great a platformer it is.

GAME 2: Typing of the dead: Overkill
Jan 2nd, Run time: 3 hours

What a weird game, you type up words to kill zombies and bosses, and yet it's somehow fun, complete with a nonsensical story and characters. I found it really great, with the exception of the final boss which is the only time I ever game over'd.

GAME 3: Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped
Jan 2nd, Run time: 4 hr and 16 minutes

The second sequel to the crash franchise and probably the 2nd best of the platformers. It did interesting things and neat gimmick levels, but compared to Crash 2 this one was more easy, it's still a great game and love it to bits :)

GAME 4: Super Mario land 2
Jan 5th, Run time: 1 hr and 13 minutes

A classic gameboy Mario that was the introduction to Wario. Back during the 90's this game was pretty hard for young me, but playing it again now, it's really easy thanks to the exclusive Rabbit power-up. I pretty much breezed through this in about an hour but it's still fun! especially compared to the first Super Mario land and its wonky physics. (through SML2 has a more floaty game going on)

GAME 5: Spyro the Dragon
Jan 7th, Run time: 10 hr and 56 minutes

Another classic PSone game, one of my favorite 3D platformers out there. This game still holds up all this time, and things are perfectly balanced and fun, well, except for all that "Thank you for releasing me"

GAME 6: Spyro the Dragon 2: Riptos rage
Jan 12th, Run time: 18 hr and 2 minutes

The sequel to the classic, everythings bigger and more collecta-thoning then before. This game still holds up, but there's a lot of moments I usually dread re-playing (nightmares of a trouble with the trolley) beyond that the series really shined with this game, and look forward to playing the 3rd one.

GAME 7: Her Story
Jan 13th, Run time: 28 hrs

Well uh....this is a game? You search a 90's era database and search for videos using keywords trying to piece together the story. It's kinda interesting, but searching for the last few videos is a pain, didn't really see how this won so many awards :\

GAME 8: The Stanley Parable
Jan 13th, Run time: 2 hrs

A fun narrative game thats story changes depending on how you go, it's pretty short but I enjoyed it.

GAME 9: Spryo Year of the Dragon
Jan 16th, Run time: 18 hrs and 33 minutes

The finale to the original Spyro trilogy, nothing better has come after it, it's more of the same of Spyro 2 basically but with additional buddies to play as, some of the minigames are a bit more frustrating too, but overall a nice package.

GAME 10: Paper Mario: The Thousand Year door
February 5th, Run time: 25 hrs and 6 minutes

The very great sequel, this time around I did a badge upgrading only run and it was hella fun, even doing as well as beating The Pit of 100 trials! Really hope there's another game like this because this is one of my absolute top 10 games.

GAME 11: Super Mario 3D World
February 15th, Run time: 7 hrs and 30 minutes

Haven't played this one in a while, the game still holds up great! It's pretty much a perfect 3D Mario platformer.

GAME 12: Super Mario 3D Land
February 19th, Run Time: 4 hrs and 1 minutes

Hey, I beat Super Mario 3D World, it was only natural to try 3D Land again! Despite being shorter to get to the credits and Mario lacking some of his console versions moves the game is still fun if a bit more simple.

GAME 13: Rhythm heaven fever
February 19th, Run time: 2 hrs and 35 minutes

I got the hankering to try this out again, my rhythm is still good, but maaaaan Monkey watch is STILL THE. WORST. ONE. there will never be a perfect or a medal on that ever. Really hope Plus comes stateside...if ever.

GAME 14: Rhythm Heaven
February 20th, Run time: 1 hrs and 50 minutes

Just like the case with 3D World and Land, I decided to play the prequel to Rhythm heaven fever, the DS version, despite being a bit rusty I managed to clear the game much faster then fever and only had to skip one stage.

GAME 15: Fire Emblem Birthright
February 27th, Run time: 29 hrs and 6 minutes

A great follow up after the amazing Awakening, This one was challenging especially near the end, hopefully I don't get any burnout trying to complete the other two.

GAME 16: Pokemon Blue
March 12th, Run time: 19 hrs and 2 minutes

I was a bit worried I wouldn't be able to complete this considering some of the anarchic designs it has compared to the original, but I made it through and enjoyed it well, my Hall of game team ended up being Blastoise, Kabutops, Snorlax, Pidgeot, Victrebell and Mr.Mime.

GAME 17: Banjo-Kazooie
April 6th, Run time: 10 hrs and 27 minutes

Been itching to play this again and it still lives to the test of time, a great 3D platformer collectathon and can't wait to get into its sequel

GAME 18: Hyrule Warriors Legends
April 12th, Run time: 30 hrs

I tried the Wii U version last year-ish and got p.bored with it, but the 3DS version got me hooked for sure, it's easier with the character switching and less demanding. Now I've been trying to complete the adventure maps foreverrrr.

GAME 19: Pikmin 2
May 2nd, Run time: 22 hrs and 17 minutes

Great game, personally my favorite of the three Pikmin so far, its more relaxing and challenging and I usually aim for good runs, I've even done the speedrun of 7 days on it for 100% once!

GAME 20: Hamtaro Ham hams unite
May 18th, Run time: 3 hrs

A very cute game thats pretty easy to beat if you know what you're doing, charming as hell and I'm surprised Miyamoto produced it!

GAME 21: Dark Souls 3
May 20th, Run time: 36 hrs and 28 minutes

I've had a very rocky relationship with the Dark Souls series, having bought 1 and 2 and just getting frustrated, I gave 3 one final chance, the results? I finally understand why people enjoy these games so much, there have been many highs and lows on my journey through DSIII, some parts I struggled with endlessly, and some parts I found fairy easy, but nothing is quite like finally completing a game in the series, I may not return to the previous entries with a better understanding now, DS3 is a fantastic game :)

GAME 22: Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
June 10th, Run Time: 27 hrs and 48 minutes

My start into the Uncharted trilogy and the rockiest of the games, every step once you get into the jungle seems to be shooting with 1-2 minute parkour section :\ there's been some good moments in it through.

GAME 23: Kirby Robobot
June 12th, Run Time: 7 hrs and 2 minutes

What a great game! Easily one of the top 5 best Kirby games I've ever played, sure it's almost more of the same from Triple Deluxe but theres many quality of life improvements that just make it better

GAME 24: Rhythm Heaven Megamix
June 19th, Run time: 7 hrs and 48 minutes

I'm super glad this game came over stateside even if it's Eshop only, it's the definite Rhythm heaven and there's so many great and catchy tunes.

GAME 25: Kirby Super star Ultra
June 27th, Run time: 6 hrs and 56 minutes

After playing Robobot I got the hankering to play Superstar again, it still holds up and is pretty much the definite version of Super star.

GAME 26: Bravely Default
July 14th, Run time: 56 hrs and 46 minutes

I've put off this game twice before, and it's only now I decided to finally beat it once and for all and it's great! Looking foward to checking out the sequel

GAME 27: Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow
July 21st, Run time: 11 hrs and 2 minutes

My first Castlevania and my favorite of the series, it's always a pleasure to beat this even if I know just about everything there is to the game.

GAME 28: Monster Hunter Generations
Augusts 15th, Run Time: 66 hrs and 33 minutes

Another first, this being the first Monster hunter game i've ever completed after so many false starts with Tri and 4U, it's amazing once a game finally clicks with you. This and Dark Souls III are my biggest accomplishments so far.

I guess I'll try this out for this upcoming year!

Game 1: Etrian Odyssey 2: Heroes of Lagaard

VQE7FUn.png

Well, this was certainly an interesting way to start off the year! I had played the first Etrian Odyssey game quite sometime ago, not too long after it released, and since I own the rest of the EO games, I figured it was time to actually start playing them. Typical of games in this style, EO2 started off pretty rough. However, I really started enjoying it as I got further into the game and got into a nice groove. Much like the first EO game, EO2 definitely has its fair share of awkward balance and general messiness, but that's part of what I enjoy about these types of games! Even though the quests got pretty annoying and the post game decided to throw a super awful teleporter puzzle at me, it wasn't enough to really turn me off the game. Despite the annoyances the game has, I do feel like it is a genuinely good game.

Game 2: Papers, Please

poa02oW.png

I can safely say this is just not a game for me. It is a very unwieldy game where everything obstructs your view and makes it more difficult to fulfill your task. Although I understand that this is kind of the point of the game, it's not something I can really appreciate. Even worse, there were often situations where I did not understand what the game considered a discrepancy, especially regarding gender and descriptions provided on later permits. It's kind of unfortunate that I just didn't really enjoy this game, because I really love seeing games that play differently from what games typically involve. I love how you interact and influence people and events primarily through non violent interactions.

Game 3: Her Story

13sjzBM.png

This is a game that, at first glance, seems like it would be pretty interesting. However, I think once I got past the novelty of it, I just can't really say I liked it all that much. At the end of the day, it's a game where you sit there and basically do nothing. You're simply given what are a series of interview clips that have been cut up into a bunch of 5 second to minute long clips that you have to sort through. Being only able to find five clips at a time just makes it tedious, and the writing really wasn't anything to write home about. It's a story whose complexity is simply based around the fact that you can only view it in small, out of order clips. It's also kind of frustrating in that it's just another story that uses mental illness as a lazy way to create a "complex" character.

Game 4: Hatoful Boyfriend

RSORhWK.png

Hatoful Boyfriend is something that's just really difficult to put into birdswords. I still remember when this first came out, and it was just such an amusing thing to behold. Having finally gotten the opportunity to play through it all, including the epilogue, I have to say it's just a very charming little visual novel. It takes a lot of tropes and cliches and really plays around with them in a very tongue-in-cheek manner, and the general absurdity of it all is something that I can really appreciate.

Main Post #2 (Games 27-57)

Game 1: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F 2nd - (Finished on 1/1)
iYQOb9n.png

Starting off the year right, with some Miku. It's pretty much the same deal as Project Diva F. Though, that's not a bad thing. The gameplay remains simple but addicting, as well as getting ridiculous on the higher difficulties. I felt that as a whole, the songs in Project Diva F 2nd were a tad more challenging than those in Project Diva F, with trickier patterns. I wasn't a fan of the newly introduced linked star notes, because it was hard to gauge how fast the star would travel along the path, which led to my combos disappearing before my eyes. Overall, a fun game that is also very colorful.

Game 2: Persona 4: Dancing All Night - 18:45 (Finished on 1/3)
3gPCj9Y.png

Of the all the Persona spinoffs, Dancing All Night has secured its place as my favorite. Right off the bat, it continues to exemplify the stylish aesthetics the series has become known for, with fantastic menu design and loading screens. The gameplay was weird to me at first, as I wasn't used to playing rhythm games on Vita, but once I got the hang of it and moved up to higher difficulties, things became fast and frantic. Hard and All Night difficulty felt unforgiving early on, as it doesn't take much to fail out of a song, and maintaining your gauge to the end of a song so that you actually pass can also be troublesome. Since the game's announcement back in 2013, along with my experiences with Persona Q and Persona 4 Ultimax, I didn't have much faith for the story of Dancing All Night, but I was surprised. The whole premise of the game is definitely ridiculous, but at the same time, It truly feels like a genuine continuation of where Persona 4 left off. The Investigation Team resemble their un-caricaturized selves, and their characters play off of each other just how they did in Persona 4. At the same time, Dancing All Night manages decently in building up new characters and somehow making the plot work. It's not an amazing story, but definitely a solid effort and it succeeds in resurfacing the nostalgic feelings of being with the Investigation Team. If this is the last installment in the Persona 4 saga, then it does a good job at being a send off. Thanks to this game, I have imagined the step, and it was genius.

Game 3: Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix - 32:18 (Finished on 1/8)
sUvfffV.png

That charming mishmash of Disney, Square Enix and DARKNESS. It was a whimsical ride. Compared to the first Kingdom Hearts, swinging around the Keyblade felt more dynamic and engrossing, with all the abilities the game throws at you. I also appreciated the decrease in platforming sections, as I found them a bit clunky in KH1. And man, the boss fights were all so crazy and fun. I enjoyed the gimmicks they employed—doom counters, minigames mid fight, having your commands stolen away—they were all pretty unique from one another. Fights with normal enemies did get a bit repetitive though, particularly when revisiting worlds, and many a fight did boil down to “press triangle for awesome”. Seeing the moment to moment juxtaposition of Disney and Square Enix characters was silly and often heartwarming, but the greater story overall was kind of hard to follow at times. I got the gist of it, but I’ve found myself having to search around the internet to consolidate some of the finer details. Enjoyable game all around with some fantastic music to boot.

Game 4: Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep Final Mix - 24:52 (Finished on 1/14)
BQsp6f4.png

The combat in this game felt so good. The command styles were an interesting way to spice up the combat as it feels like your moveset is constantly changing. The command deck system in general was pretty great as I found myself using abilities I never really used in previous KH games, before melding them together to receive even more foreign abilities. Coming off of KH2, I was really confused and overwhelmed by the combat differences, but before long it became my favorite combat system thus far in the series. Having 3 playable characters was cool, but their routes were all pretty similar, so going through the game with each character felt pretty samey at times. I was actually surprised at some of the developments in plot. There were certainly… intriguing tie-ins with previous games in the series. Finished with Kingdom Hearts II.5 now, looking forward to II.8 and III.

Game 5: Shantae and the Pirate's Curse - 7:29 (Finished on 1/17)
eZ2fbrz.png

An adorably colorful and silly metroidvania that likes to poke fun at itself and similar games. Standard fare of exploration, puzzle solving, gaining new abilities/items, backtracking and secret finding. Along with a very catchy soundtrack. The game does a pretty good job at evenly dividing the usefulness of all your abilities, keeping them all relevant for the duration of the game. The game's final area especially, puts to test everything you have in sadistic ways. New game+ also gives you all your abilities from the start, which seems to make for interesting ways to progress faster through all the areas. Good times with this one. Short but sweet.

Game 6: The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D - 24:30 (Finished on 1/25)
K1R9AeU.png

So for various circumstances over the years, this remained the one 3D Zelda I had not completed; I only ever made it to the second main dungeon. Having finally gone through the whole game now, I can say it was pretty nifty. One of the main aspects that stuck out to me was how peculiar the world and events felt. One moment, Link is marching around with a trail of cucco chicks behind him, and in the next, he's a guitar playing Zora—all while an angry faced moon is looking down at the world. Another aspect I liked was the feeling of hopelessness; satisfying the requests of NPCs, only to go back in time and seeing them in need yet again is interesting to experience. The NPC dialogue as the moon gets closer in particular is pretty depressing. The game really succeeds at making you feel involved the world—which is where most of my enjoyment came from, as I wasn't feeling the dungeons. I guess I've been spoiled by later Zelda games, but none of the dungeons stood out to me aside from Stone Tower, which had a cool gimmick to it. On a side note, hunting down those deviously hidden stray fairies as time winds down was stressful! Probably the only instances where the time limit made me worry a bit. As I close the 3DS on Majora's Mask, I will never forget the fast times I had with the Bunny Hood.

Game 7: Fate/stay night - 85:27 (Finished on 2/11)
QKSyREF.png

Gadzooks, this is the longest visual novel I've gone through, and very well may be the longest game on my list this year. Fate/stay night details the events of the Holy Grail War: a phenomenon in which individuals who are versed in magic, henceforth known as Masters, summon beings known as Servants--historical or mythological figures with incredible physical and supernatural strength--and fight for possession of the Holy Grail, which is said to grant any wish. What's interesting about Fate/stay night (and what gives it such a long length) is that while the Holy Grail War is the central premise, the game has three separate routes, each showing the events of the Holy Grail War unfolding in vastly different ways. Each successive route builds upon what was established in the route before it, making it interesting to compare events that happen in one route but not another. Adding to this, there are dozens upon dozens of bad endings, that always go into vivid and bloody detail about how you picked the wrong choice. With each route being 30ish hours long, it makes for a lengthy ride. Overall, it was a pretty cool story full of twists, and violence, and introspection and cooking... my god the cooking. The game would go into excruciating detail about the characters cooking and enjoying breakfast and dinner. A personal gripe I had was that at times, the plot felt too dark, which induced a bit of apathy in me in regards to what would come next for the characters. I'm interested in the other works in this franchise, but after 85 hours... I'll get around to checking those out eventually.

Game 8: Touhou Eiyashou ~ Imperishable Night - 1:29 (Finished on 2/22)
4aHmJ17.png

Having never played a Touhou game, I was pleasantly surprised. Being faced with a seemingly insurmountable wall of bullets flying at you is really exciting. Learning the patterns, weaving through bullets and defeating bosses is very satisfying and gameplay itself is addicting. I would also like to point out the dulcet piano tunes in the game, such as:
Retribution of the Eternal Night
Voyage 1969
I enjoyed them greatly.

Game 9: Mirror's Edge - ~3 hours (Finished on 2/22)
iR1shT2.png

With Mirror's Edge Catalyst not too far off on the horizon, I decided to revisit Mirror's Edge, one of my favorite games. I really love how well this game holds up. The primarily white color scheme is offset nicely by sharp and vibrant uses of reds and greens and yellows and oranges and blues. The soundtrack strikes a fine balance between a calm, lonely ambience when faced with a puzzle area, and tense, adrenaline fueled beats, when running from enemies who possess extraordinarily bad aiming. The game just feels really good to play, especially as you keep up the momentum and speed through levels. The gameplay flow kind of falls apart when faced with combat, but that's pretty much my only problem with Mirror's Edge. Oh, and those weird 2D cutscenes that tell the story, but I shall remain coy on those. Looking forward to Catalyst.

Game 10: Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved - (Despaired on 2/24)
Ir54twb.png

It has been over 7 years since I first played this on Xbox 360. I left this game satisfied with a high score of 1,550,095. Upon revisiting it for old times sake, I learned to accept how far I have fallen, managing only a shameful score of 725,640. Such is the way of life. Flowers grow, then they die. Also I need to check out Geometry Wars 3.

Game 11: Bravely Default - 58:46 (Finished on 3/3)
W3ofDPT.png

I enjoyed the battle system and the depth it presents at times with the various jobs characters can take on. I also enjoyed the exchanges of cheesy, yet flavorful dialogue during cutscenes. ("When I saw her face amid the flames, I felt a spark. Not the customary running-for-your-life thrill, mind, but a real thundaga-to-the-heart epiphany!") The game's cute graphics are often offset by fairly dark happenings in the story, which was an interesting touch. I think my opinion of Bravely Default is a common one in that, it starts off great, but after a certain point it begins to overstay its welcome. Game 12: Steins;Gate - 39:09 (Finished on 3/13)
wvKqtmD.png

Putting it lightly, Steins;Gate is best described in terms of a roller coaster ride. The passengers have been waiting ages to get their turn as they seat themselves. Once everyone is strapped in, the roller coaster departs. It ascends a few slopes, gaining a large amount of height before abruptly coming to an unbelievably steep slope. Midway up this steep slope, the roller coaster stops completely. 2 hours later, the passengers are bewildered and agitated. “What gives?” One passenger asks. “I want my money back!” Another complains. The passengers are unable to disembark safely due to their current position; they’re stuck. Just as their enthusiasm dips to the lowest point, the roller coaster begins to move again. It inches very slowly up the slope, until it reaches the vertex. The passengers cheer in anticipation at the imminent burst of speed awaiting them going down slope. The roller coaster begins to descend. As expected, the passengers savor the blast of speed hitting them—like the sensation of eating a gummy worm. But something strange begins to occur: the slope they are going down doesn’t ever end. The roller coaster keeps descending further and further while steadily increasing in speed. The passengers’ euphoria soon turns into a deep fear. “Where are we?” “Get me off of this ride!” They panic. The roller coaster continues its descent into infinity. An unknown amount of time passes. They have reached such a speed that it feels as if they are not in motion at all. No one remembers where they are or what they are doing. Actually, the only thing they remember is the intense desire for speed at some point in the past. At a near light speed descent, all they feel is despair.

Yeah, Steins;Gate was pretty good, I'd say.

Game 14: Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland - 32:10 (Finished on 3/23)
uMubWwz.png

Slightly stressful game. Though very lenient, seeing the time limit ticking down whenever battling, gathering materials, traveling and creating items left me with a sense of impending doom. That aside, this game was a new experience for me as I haven’t played any RPGs where the focus is item creation. Once I got the hang of things, I often wondered just how far I could push the envelope when it came to creating useful and powerful items. The low-key objectives of item creation and developing a kingdom made for a very easygoing and lighthearted atmosphere, and boy do I enjoy easygoing and lighthearted things.

Game 15: Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea - 29:05 (Finished on 4/1)
ZPFO2TL.png

With the time limit being gone, a large metaphorical weight was lifted off my back. It’s liberating being able to gather materials, travel and fight without the days passing by. Item creation in this game was really engaging, becoming much like a game itself, with equipping various skills to the ingredients and trying to increase the chain effect. It's easy to burn the hours away solely through item creation. Though it has an upbeat tone at the surface, Atelier Shallie has a notable somberness to it. From the gentle melancholy pianos heard in a lot of the game's tracks, to the game's world itself being covered in an expanding desert as water sources dry up. It's actually kind of strange this game didn't have a time limit considering the state of the world, but I'm not too irked. Had a fun time.

Game 16: Resonance of Fate - 38:12 (Finished on 4/6)
duxPPsj.png

Wow what a game. I initially played it in 2011, but put it down after a few chapters since I didn’t really understand what the heck was going on during battles. 5 years later, I picked it up again, learned the game and got through with only a few bumps. Resonance of Fate is notable for having a super flashy and confusing battle system in which nearly ALL the mechanics are available to you in the beginning. Combine that with a very small amount of resources at the start and you’ve got a fairly intimidating game at first glance. Overcome that severe learning curve at the start and then it becomes a smooth, fun ride. Though a downside is that once you grasp all the mechanics and finally “get it”, that’s all there is to it— as in, since everything was available to you at the start, the battle system doesn’t evolve any further, (beyond dual wielding guns and emphasis on stunning enemies) so every battle will play out pretty much the same way from the moment the game clicks. The game has an interesting setting: Basel—a manmade tower stretching far into the sky, constructed after… something happened to Earth, leaving it uninhabitable. Yeah, the game has a really vague story and requires some work to piece together the big picture. On the flip side, the main cast is a charismatic bunch, often exchanging hilarious banter during battles as well as being a joy to watch during cutscenes. Lastly, the music was wonderfully beautiful at times, really evokes the feeling of traveling in the sky.

Game 17: Jet Set Radio - 5 hours (Finished on 4/10)
jZaZE7E.png

Jet Set Radiooooooooo! Having only played Jet Set Radio Future in the far past, I've been eager to play the original for a long time now. As expected, I got my dosage of stylish aesthetics, groovy music, police brutality and questionable controls. Not to mention insane tutorials. Dang wall grinds made it take forever to pull off 50 tricks in a row.

Game 18: Earthbound Beginnings (Finished on 4/17)
g0gvAYu.png

I enjoyed my time with Earthbound and Mother 3 back in the day, but didn't have the tenacity to get through the original. Playing it now was a smoother experience than expected. There's a lot of level grinding and difficulty spikes, and battles are barebones compared to the rolling HP counters in Earthbound, or the rhythm combat of Mother 3, but thanks to PK Fire, things turned out OK. Being a Mother game means it's full of silliness and self-awareness, which alleviates the often unforgiving gameplay (Mt. Itoi was insane).

Game 19: Metroid: Zero Mission - 2:56:32 (Finished on 4/20)
YUkTV7H.png

Many times throughout life, an individual will be struck with the thought, "Is [game] as good as memory suggests?" Sometimes, the individual will be disappointed upon revisiting a game and realizing it is not as good as they remember.

Not Zero Mission though. Fluid, fast, responsive--the game feels extremely good to control. The game has a breakneck pace as you zip around collecting power up after power up in an action and exploration packed romp through Planet Zebes; there's never a dull moment. It inches just a bit in front of Super Metroid in terms of my favorite 2D Metroid games. My memory hasn't failed me just yet.

Game 20: Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - (Finished on 4/21)
tNk6gqH.png

Man, I hate Metropolis Zone. There's that one mantis in a passage at the top of a screw-lift, and it knocks me off every single time.

Game 21: Kirby Super Star Ultra - (Finished on 4/22)
ggUa6YF.png

I've yet to play a Kirby game beyond this one, but Super Star Ultra remains my favorite at the moment primarily for how varied each of the copy ability movesets are. Being able to use enemies as partners is also a nice touch.

Game 22: Sonic The Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles - (Finished on 4/26)
xfw0bBg.png

Oddly, I've always played Sonic 3 and S&K as separate games. I've never attempted to play them as one until now. I think I prefer the Sonic 3 half. S&K's Sandopolis and Flying Battery zones are still a pain.

Game 23: Sonic The Hedgehog - (Finished on 4/26)
Ig5qDg2.png

If I could tell my younger self "Scrap Brain Zone Act 3 is actually Labyrinth Zone Act 4." I would have been disheartened beyond belief. In the past, Labyrinth Zone made me lose most of my lives. By the time I got through Star Light Zone, I'd only have 1 life left at Scrap Brain Zone, which I'd lose quickly. Overcoming Sonic 1 has truly been a lifelong sonic adventure.

Game 24: Pokemon Trading Card Game - 6:16 (Finished on 4/28)
OhBJmhY.png

Pokemon TCG is a faithful recreation of the Pokemon TCG where the player and the opponent are at the mercy of the RNG's coin flips. Very fun game, when the coin flips are on your side.

Game 25: Super Mario Bros. 2 - (Finished on 4/29)
0mYoIml.png

Well I'd rather not use a mean word like "worst" or "terrible" but this is probably the least fun I've had from a Mario game. Grabbing and tossing objects and enemies as opposed to jumping on them just felt mysterious. Not a good mysterious, mind you. The more exploration based approach to levels as opposed to a linear approach didn't sit too well with me either. But I do applaud the game for its general strangeness, at the very least. It'll be too soon if I'm chased down by Phanto again in this life.

Game 26: Halo 3 - (Finished on 4/30)
s9qAI5Z.png

I will dedicate this section to the campaign mission known as "The Covenant." Really just a fantastic level all around that plays to a lot of Halo's strengths. Like you've got close quarters indoor shooting and fisticuffs, long range kerfuffles in the open wilderness, vehicular fights against enemy vehicles, aerial vehicular fights against aerial enemy vehicles, a large variety of enemies, and a grand scale battle at the climax. It has pretty much everything. The rest of the campaign is like an appetizer.

Completed 54/52:

Game 01: Risen (PC) - Time:35h0m - Status: COMPLETED January 2
Almost forgot to put this one because I started it December's last week. This game screams "GOTHIC PLAYSTYLE" in almost every aspect, and that's fine. Different factions to join. Lots of Quest which are possible to complete through different means. Neat combat mechanics that reward skilled well timed meleeplay andspecialized character's development. Risen falls off notably after chapter 3 but is understandable because is a relatively short game. Silly endboss but anyways.

Game 02: Fallout New Vegas (PC) - Time: 70h3m - Status: COMPLETED January 10
All DLCs done. Dead Money has an outstanding quality in writing, is a shame the DLC experience is quite crippled by rage inducing mechanics like detonator speakers, toxic fog and confusing map's navigation. Honest Hearts introduces us a very interesting character like Joshua Graham and the beauty of Zion, quest
are somewhat bland since they are mostly the typical fetch this - kill that. Old World Blues is a truly delight for classic Fallout fans, since It contains all the elements that made them great: mad science, amusing characters, several choices and consequences etc. For me the best DLC. Lonesome Road is pretty a linear straightforward FPS but is meant to be the closure of Overall DLC's plot.

Playing the Dlcs gave quite an insight related New Vegas Story. What a wonderful rpg with a lot of potential and scope tarnished by the mediocrity of gamebryo engine.

Game 03: Fallout 4 (PC) - Timer: 73h2m - Status: COMPLETED January 30
The writing sometimes is as retarded as in Fallout 3, the game treats dialogues like a hindrance. I feel like playing an uninspired dungeon crawler fps more than rpg. Bland factions. Pointless crafting since you can obtain better gear increasing difficulty,
Luck perks and hunt legendaries. Boring fetch and kill quests. clunky animations. The revamped power armor, settlements and decent atmosphere don't outshine the faulty mechanics, horrid UI and overall mediocrity of this game. And the main quest is just underwhelming
and boring. Kind of expected that since I'm aware of the effort Bethesda tends to put in the main plot.

Game 04: Undertale (PC) - Timer: 13h6m - Status: COMPLETED January 12
Astounding. What a beautiful and intense game. For such a small rpg, It has everything: lighthearted shenaningans, tearjerking moments, disturbing scenes,
moral decisions. I wholeheartly recommend it.

Game 05: EarthBound (SNES) - Timer: 36h24m - Status: COMPLETED January 24

Earthbound satirizes the golden days of jrpgs in a good way. I can really appreciate its value in videogame's history
and its legacy is alive within the indie devs.
Pretty wacky rpg with some unusually creepy and disturbing moments that are not quite out of place. Earthbound
handles modern era creatively, adding everyday stuffs like sentient enemies and unsuspecting allies, junk food as healing potion, public transportation instead of flying ships and psionic powers instead of magic. None of this is a novelty nowadays, but think back how was that in the 90's during a market drowning with medieval or scifi inspired jrpgs.

Game 06: TES III Morrowind (PC) - Timer: 62h3m - Status: COMPLETED february 9
My god The Bethesda decline is blatantly real. Oblivion and Skyrim were seriously dumbed down compared to Morrowind. In spite of shoddy combat mechanics, flawed attribute/skill progression system balance, some badly implemented birthsigns. TES III offers a genuine Role playing experience for those who love lore and exploration. Plus it has tons of factions and populated areas, even a higher diversity of creatures, dungeons, items compared to Its sequels. And customized magic spells, though It certainly have room for improvement, is a neat idea that I'm yet to understand why they decided to remove it in next titles. Got me hooked.

Morrowind convinces me that Bethesda could do far better. But they are determined to keep making retarded lazy design decisions.

Game 07: PlaneScape: Torment (PC) - Timer: around 60h - Status: COMPLETED February 22
Planescape Torment is a game that any RPG fan should play at least once. It is the epitome of story driven videogames.
But in technical aspects PS: torment is a regular rpg: the real time isometric combat mechanics feel like an unpolished
Diablo, pretty basic and awkward, difficult to multi target, infuriating to micromanage and delay responsive. Not much to
worry, the combat is an almost skippable experience that will cover vastly less time compared to you will spend reading
and choosing carefully your answers. Therefore combat is a minor annoyance that doesn't hinder narrative flow while you
are advancing. And since the experience requirements to advance each level are HUGE, grinding is not time efficient as
doing as much Quest available you stumble upon.

It also brilliantly decontructs many RPG tropes in interesting ways. Think Undertale, but without all those annoying fourth
wall breaking and with a more enthralling, emotive, coherent, tragic and deep story. If you loved Undertale for the story and characters, then go ahead and make yourself a favor, play Planetscape Torment.

Game 08: -Jagged Alliance 2 (PC) - Timer: 62hr 3m - Status: COMPLETED February 28th

The voice acting is hilarious. And the Tactic combat system is so good: you can crouch, run, stay prone, focus your aim, sneak, throw knives and grenades, use the environment to your advantage, attack by day or night etc. Also is awesome to freely explore the map seamlessly and make progress the order you desire. Did you know any non linear tactics RPG that gives you the freedom to choose your approach and pace the way your want to accomplish the only game's objective? No Fire Emblem series , nor Final Fantasy Tactics. Those games feel very constrained compared to Jagged Alliance 2.

Game 09: - Gothic 2 rerun(PC) - Timer: 36hr 2m - Status: COMPLETED march 4th
Since my first run was with the expansion Night of the Raven, which introduce some significant gameplay and difficulty changes. I decided to play the vanilla version to experience first hand how much it was improved an already great game; and certainly, Night of the Raven is a long way harder than Gothic 2 without expansion, since there is a real possibility that you can screw up your character, the Nameless one, and render him totally useless for latter boss fights.

Anyway, I consider that Gothic's legacy paved the way that shows how a open world Rpg with real time combat is made. A seamless, handcrafted, incredible game.

Game 10: -One chance (Newgrounds) - Timer: 30m - Status: COMPLETED march 5th

One of those tiny games of 10 minutes duration that tells an inane story with different ending and interesting enough to
replay several times. You're a family guy working as a government scientist, head of a project looking for the definitive
cure for cancer. When finally found it all is cheerful celebrations and stuff until they realized (too late) that the cure is
lethal since It annihilates not only cancer cells but all living ones (facepalm). Now the world will end in 6 days for a retarded
reason. It's up to you how you gonna cope with your last days breathing. Will you bang a coworker? Commit suicide?
Work your ass off looking for a cure before die in six days? Stay with your naive child and depressed wife?.

It has a little of choices and consequences in it and quite dark ones. But again It's difficult to feel "moved" by this game
considering how ridiculous is that a bunch of idiotic scientists released an untested pathogen and claimed to be a cure for cancer.

Game 11: -Pokemon Argent version Soulsilver (DSi) - Timer: 35h 4m - Status: COMPLETED march 25th

Dragonite steamrolling FTW.

Game 12: - New Super Mario (DSi) - Timer: 6h 25m - Status: COMPLETED march 27th

Suffice to say is a good same ol' Mario game. Not wonderful or exceptional like Galaxy series but It offers fair
challenge and diversity.

Game 13: - Pokemon Black & White (DSi) - Timer: 34h 2m - Status: COMPLETED April 5th

A pokemon game taking its own plot too seriously LMAO. Japanese Clichés and fake choices aside, at least the story
is consistent enough. Its forced linear playthrough is annoying as usual. But at least the elite 4 and the over the top final
battles were challenging enough. Although still you can easily wipe the floor with them using fighting, ground, dragon or
steel pokemon types like the previous gens. Great music also.

Game freak really improved some stuff in Gen V: Unlimited TMs, simplified HMs, multiple item button assign and a
comfortable interface. Amusing animated sprites are also a plus. The Pokemon also started to have hidden abilities since this gen. And oddly they didn't abuse in putting lots of pointless minigames.

Game 14: - Pokemon Black 2 (DSi) - Timer: 66h 40m - Status: COMPLETED April 24th

Took me longer than I thougt. The Pokémon Hollywood thing was a fancy tutorial to learn how to properly use some uncommon moves, nice. The biggest feature is the Pokémon World Tournament, tons of fan service, but more enjoyable than battle train. Although picking a rental pokémon team is a waste of time since they put you against enemies that counter you. First time I see a "poké-fusion" done with the gen VI signature legendaries. Legendaries in pokémon are so pointless in game by the way, only for fancy collection or to grind elite four. Can't use them in battle train or world champioship.

Game 15: - Tales of Maj'eyal (Steam) - Timer: 112h 52m - Status: COMPLETED April 24th and still playing

ToMe is THE roguelike. Tons of classes and races. Different playstyles. Amusing turn based combat mechanics. Come, join the fun, overcome the randomness and oneshot ludicrous strong enemies with superior strategy and amusing min-maxing, or get your noob baptism entering dark crypt and getting your ass handed by corruptor's diseases and hexes.

Game 16: - Divine Divinity (GOG) - Timer: 56h 30m - Status: COMPLETED May 18th
Divine Divinity was launched as a response to Diablo 2. It has a deeper character development, better story, compelling dialogue ad overall superior roleplaying. It's a shame people regarded it as just a diablo clone at first. I recommend it to play it at least once and then move on to its sequel.

Game 17: - Tactics Ogre Let us cling together (PSP) - Timer: +70 hours - Status: COMPLETED May 31th
So insanely good and vastly superior in comparison to Final Fantasy Tactics, which the latter is one of my favorites games. In FFT, your only options are similar to any Fire emblem game (which I mean there is not braching in the storyline's path) but that's not the case of TO, fortunately. TO is a comprehensive game with a well tailored and balanced difficuly, although
I admit there are ways to break the difficulty wall, although not as blatantly ludicrous as you can in FFT and Fire Emblem.

Game 18: - System Shock (PC) - Timer: +10 hours - Status: COMPLETED June 4th
Like its sequel, The game conveys some really very creepy vibes ,although is not essentially a survival horror. Your character, the hacker, have to explore (as is quite typical in sci fi terror) a station devastated by a relatively recent incident, often having to navigate through narrow corridors lit by dim fading lights. Like in Bioshock, the main villain haunts you with his constant taunts and rants, but also becomes your only companion. Fascinating.

Game 19: - Zelda Ocarina of Time (Wii Virtual console) - Timer: +20 hours - Status: COMPLETED 100% June 8th
So many years have already passed, so many times I finished this game. Never got tired of playing it, perhaps is childhood nostalgia more than being actually a perfect game, but is undeniable that the legacy of Zelda OoT will last beyond the contemporary videogame industry era.

Game 20: - Zelda Majora's Mask (Wii Virtual Console) - Timer: +20 hours - Status: COMPLETED 100% June 15th
Now we have here the most atypical Zelda title of the bunch. In Majora is the first time we see some sort of sidequest tracking introduced into the franchise, and pretty neatly made without a doubt. Sometimes I wonder how this gloomy setting came into fruition from the developers's minds.

Game 21: - Mario Party 2 (Wii Virtual Console) - Timer: + 8 hours - Status:COMPLETED 100% June 18th
Hey, this game also counts too, and I didn't play it alone, which is kind of lame and boring. Me and some friends and family beat the game within 2 days. Is always fun to screw your beloved in an insidious friendly way.

Game 22: - Kirby 64 (Wii Virtual Console) - Timer: +6 hours - Status: COMPLETED June 21th
I was bored that day and decided to give it another go to Kirby since I had the Wii connected already. Pretty short and
painfully easy, but is always fun to try several power combinations.

Game 23: - Super Mario 64 (Wii Virtual Console) - Timer: +8 hours - Status: COMPLETED June 24 th
Following my self imposed Nintendo 64 Nostalgia trip, I also played the good old super mario 64. I didn't realize how annoying ad flawed was the old camera rotation, but I guess it was a neat innovation when it was released. Not the best
Super Mario game, the boss fights are too easy and hard at the same time, I mean, is quite easy to outrun and grab the tail of Bowser, but the last fight is pretty complicated to hurl him towards one of those explosive mines.

Game 24: - Paper Mario (Wii Virtual Console) - Timer: 32 hours 42min - Status: COMPLETED June 27 th
A worthy Super Mario RPG incarnation, the action-trigger mechanics really make turn based combat interesting and provides tons of possibilities. Surprisingly, the badges allow plenty of build options, so you can fit your playstyle in several ways.

Game 25: - Paper Mario: A thousand years door (Wii gamecube retrocompatibility) - Timer: +40 hours - Status: COMPLETED July 1st
My second run gave me a better insight of Paper Mario saga. It seems more of the same but Nintendo managed to enhance every aspect that made the former Paper Mario great: more badges, polished action trigger mechanics, better story, dialogues and even more memorable companions. The best Paper Mario so far.

Game 26: - Super Paper Mario (Wii) - Timer: aprox. 18 hours - Status: COMPLETED June 7 th
It was truly disappointing that Nintendo decided to take several step backwards in the RPG side of Paper Mario franchise, in fact, is not really a RPG anymore. Is an amusing platformer, but nothing else. One thing I can say to its favor though,Super Paper Mario is one of several few Wii games that takes full advantage of Wii remote technology. Thus it can be played smoothly while standing up or sitting idle without any place for uncomfortable strains.

Games 27,28, 29,30,31: - Geneforge I/II/III/IV/V - Timer: +200 hours - Status: June 28th
I decided to bundle this game up here because its sequels, albeit of being standalone games, are pretty much the same thing. Geneforge saga is Jeff Vogel's rpg masterpiece, Jeff Vogel is a veteran full time indie developer that programmed all these little marvels alone, with only being helped by his wife. The UI is ugly and music is pretty much non existent, but since these games are developed by him alone, the former tradeoff mentioned are kind of understandable.

Anyway, Geneforge is a PC videogame that plenty of RPG developers can learn a thing or two, including GameFreak and their Pokémon franchise. Why? Because Pokémon shares some very slight similarities (although they're not related in any way, I guess even the Gamefreak guys don't know who is Jeff Vogel or his SpiderWeb software company in first place) with Geneforge, of course, if you can imagine a Pokémon trainer like a sorcerer capable of shape magic into organic lifeforms in ways that are beyond the understanding of the common mortal and a fondness for bathtub robes instead of a red caps and jacket outfit. Therefore, instead of venturing the wilderness and look for some monsters to catch, you create them in order to fight (and die) in your place or alongside you, a bit like Shin Megami Tensei.

But why I claim it shares more similarities with Pokémon than, say, SMT saga ? Because It delves further into the Master-Servant relationship predicament. In geneforge, the way you think about your creations and servitude will lead you to a different path and also provides you with different allies and enemies. Instead of trying to convey a lesson about friendship and loyalty through a lineal storyline like in any typical Pokémon game.

But don't get me wrong, I'm not really interested in whether Gamefreak should change their Pokémon storytelling or not, thereby is not in that aspect they would learn something, but in the way Jeff Vogel conveys exploration and and adventure feeling in those games. In geneforge, exploration is highly rewarded and there are not storyline constraints that limit your path, instead, the storyline is determined by which kind of stuff you find out or whose people you decide to help. To summarize, You can find out everything by your own, and is heavily focused on exploration. In Pokémon, you can find a bit of that, but most of times is quite obtuse in that regard, like how some pokémon evolve or some backstory of those.

Game 32,33,34: - Dragon Quest II/Dragon Quest III/Final Fantasy VI(Android) - Timer: +60 hours- Status: COMPLETED July 3rd
Putting the desktop PC and consoles aside, I decided to play some titles I acquired from the Play Store. There is not much else to say regarding those classic JRPGs, although I found out after playing classic Dragon Quest I finally grew tired of random encounters and "blobbler" turn based combat style, also, the first Dragon Quest titles have almost non existant character development and are quite focused towards dungeon crawling, in my opinion, when it comes of dungeon crawling, Shin Megami Tensei is clearly superior. Final Fantasy VI, on the other hand, has the weakest
playable character cast of Final Fantasy's metaverse, even more than the characters from the bland FF XII, but is kinda understandable since there are so many characters to choose. Kefka certainly is a memorable villain, He embraces the "psycho harlequin" trope neatly, and is motivated by an evil agenda that deviated from the typical "world domination" evil scheme.

Game 35,36,37: - Dark Souls/Dark Soul II/Dark Souls III (PC) - Timer: +100 hours- Status: COMPLETED August 4th
I finally bought Dark Souls III, and decided to devote the remaining July to play the former Dark Souls games in order to sharpen my combat mechanics and "git good" and be prepared for the last challenge that Miyazaki brought to us. What I have to say is just that the ending is a bit disappointing but perhaps I shall wait until I play the DLC.

Game 38: - The Witcher III: Wild Hunt (PC) -No Dlc- - Timer: 78 hours- Status: COMPLETED August 17th
The Witcher III is a marvel to behold. It has all the elements a good CRPG must have: Choices and Consequences, good writing, interesting secondary questlines. But it also has ugly flaws: fast paced but clumsy combat, cumbersome UI, annoying crafting system. Regardless, despite all the drawbacks is quite the Open World CRPG any PC gamer is been waiting for years.

Game 39: - Enderal -A skyrim total conversion Mod- (PC) - Timer: 52 hours- Status: COMPLETED August 24th
A total conversion Mod, like Enderal, replaces entirely the vanilla game. It is a game that was developed by the same team of talented gals that made Nerhim, a total conversion mod for Oblivion. Enderal is a continent that, despite not being as ample as Skyrim in comparison, offers a pretty diverse bioma:Tundra, lush Forest, archipelagos, desert, coastal regions and jungles. For me, Ark is one of the liveliest metropolis I have ever experienced within a videogame and the greatest highlight of Enderal, It has different market districts, high novelty residence, catedral, slums, etc. Is a boon to have the ability to quick travel across different districts, otherwise It would be kind of overwhelming.

Game 40,41: Star Wars: Knight of the Old Republic I/II - (PC)- Timer: 72 hours - Status: COMPLETED September 2nd
First game developed by Bioware, an amusing rpg that really enriches the Star Wars Universe, Darth Revan became one of the most popular Jedi and Sith, and his relevance within the Old republic arch is without a doubt crucial, since he led his jedi comrades to the mandalorian wars, clearly defying the Jedi Council desires. The sequel was developed by Bioware, creating a Rpg with an expected superior writing, and a bunch of memorable characters, perhaps the Jedi protagonist is kind of special snowflake since She manages to be cut down from the force and eventually become stronger, but Kreia struggle against the force itself is undeniably the most fascinating aspect of the story.

Game 42: Warcraft III Reign of Chaos (PC)- Timer: 12 hours - Status: COMPLETED September 6th
I stumbled across my old disc and nostalgia kicked in, I'm glad to relive Arthas falling from grace to eventually become in everything He once hated. Kind of ironic.

Game 43: Deus Ex (PC)- Timer: 32 hours hours - Status: COMPLETED September 9th

The multiple paths available for every objective you have to complete is oustanding, yet nowadays for that reason there is not a single first person shooter with stealth mechanics able to provide the freedom the first Deus Ex has. And it even being focused on delivering a FPS experience, it performs better as a Rpg than many modern CRPGs (like Elder scrolls, pillars of eternity, dragon age II and II). LOL

Game 44: Deus Ex Human Revolution Director Cut's (PC)- Timer: 26 hours - Status: COMPLETED September 12th

Does not provide the degree of freedom like the first Deus Ex, and non lethal fully stealth approach is highly encouraged and better rewarded (see the achievements). It has its share of story's path branching and some RPGs elements, fairly decent videogame, with better gameplay mechanics than the first one, but far less ambitious in comparison. Is a shame that It feels like a generic modern action game than a Deus Ex. But that's my opinion.

Game 45: Dragon Age Origins (PC)- Timer: 65 hours - Status: COMPLETED September 20th

DAO is the best and, in my opinion, the only Dragon Age games that is worth playing. Regardless, It does not perform as an outstanding RPG or a flawed gem, but a just OK Western RPG with its share of highlights. Is a fairly well rounded RPG that was launched in an age that the genre was plagued with mediocrity, so it can sate some gaming cravings, but is unlikely it will become into something that will linger in your memories.

I'll think about! I'll see if I have time. Once uni finishes in February I'll probably have a lot of spare time. (Also, it's 2016 already and I just beat Undertale so that's one down!)

Claiming this post, as allowed by the OP. What I wanna know, and what is unclear in the OP, is if we can include games We've completed in the past. Replay section wording is a bit confusing.

WORKING on it!

Taking long time
