A Long Lost Game Based On The Sonic Saturday Morning Cartoon?

Yeah, my understanding was that this is as far as Bubsy 3 ever got - just a test animation.

Still, slight campness aside, the Comix Zone one and the Spinball one ended up incredibly close to how the finals turned out as.

Some context: This game is Sonic MARS, or at least the pitch for same. It was going to be an internal project to boost the 32x, but it died because... well, because STI seems to have been managed by chimps.
It might've evolved into that, but the interviews on SEGA-16 peg it as a 1993 Genesis mockup called Sonic 16 originally. Seems there was also a separate Saturn Sonic in the works at STI too besides Xtreme, and Xtreme itself started life as a 32X concept. So really all totaled for canned STI Sonic platformers...

Sonic 16 (MD)
Sonic MARS (32X)
Sonic Xtreme (32X)
Sonic Xtreme (SS)
Sonic ??? (SS)

Oh, it got greenlit, alright - it just never really went anywhere, mostly because of constant tech/hardware resuffles. Had this not been the case, this game would exist in a very similar form, no doubt about it.

What were their problems?

My mistake, the problems were between ABC (aka Disney) and DiC. Sega actually had very little control over the show. A few years ago, DiC managed to take control of their properties from Disney, and it took a few years after that to prepare this set.
