A look at the output of Sony Interactive Entertainment for 2026

I bought a ps5 just for Stellar Blade and FF VII Rebirth and not a single sony exclusive game since then catched my attention and looking at that list, that won't change anytime soon. If it wasn't for GTA 6 I would have sold my playstation already. Weak lineup.

So you played Stellar Blade and Rebirth that's it? After that waiting for GTA 6? Dawn i feel sorry for you.

I don't really care for Sony first party games, I basically use my Ps5 as a third party machine.
That said, I'll probably pick up Saros when it's on sale, and Kena (not first party though) is one of my most anticipated games of the year IF it doesn't launch with the usual UE5 issues.

There's a couple of games on there that I'd like to play. For my money, it feels like a strong exclusive lineup for the first half of the year. I like that they're investing in smaller projects too instead of relying exclusively on tentpole franchises and GasS big bets.

As others have noted though, framing the conversation as SIE instead of first party doesn't really fix the impression that Sony itself could and should be doing more. But that seems to be gaming all over these days.

To be honest, yes, more Ape Escape, or at least some equivalent. I have been seeing more and more games push for more realism, and it gets rather boring. Could some of those games be good? Yes, but aesthetically, we do need some more variety sprinkled in.

Yep. Patapon and Hot Shots was the most interested I've been in Sony's output in 15 years. It doesn't matter to me if they aren't 20+ million sellers. They're just fun.

Ain't that what games are all about?

But yeah, Patapon in particular does look neat.

Microsoft has a better line this year if I am quite frank.
As someone who's been with PS since the beginning the main thing I ask myself is " Where are the RPGS?! ". , like yooo 3 of 5 of the last GotY games have been RPGs . You have games like BG3, E33 and ER selling a fuck ton and Sony ain't chasing that type of audience , it's a weird time when I look at MS for games now more then Sony

Sony's schtick now are 3rd person cinematic experiences and been for a while now since the Uncharted days and then with TLOU it really became the trend for them.

TBF, almost all the big publishers in the West are.

Woke fucked the industry hard in the West for everybody.
True - western AAA has mostly fallen

The western devs that have truly delivered these last 10 years have been smaller studios that grown outside of the AAA landscape (usually with PC/Steam roots) like Larian, CDPR, Arrowhead and Warhorse studios

thanks to whose funding...

true Arrowhead was funded by Sony - but it is not Sony. And never will be

Sony instead bought and own this shit:

Concord
Bungie (Marathon)
Fair games

How far they have fallen
but helldivers 2 is, a game sony funded for 8 whole years

Saros and Kena look up my alley, but not sure I'll get either day one though.

Wolverine we'll see when they show an extended piece of gameplay.

The rest meh, but better than last year.

yes you are correct.

this does not mean Sony is at the top of their game. Sure they have some fine or even good stuff still but compare them to the PS4 era. The output is generic and very, VERY safe - with some exceptions of course (Returnal was top tier imo)

This video summarises what Playstation has become. To be fair so has most AAA studios in the west - thankfully Nintendo and Japanese devs are still top tier

"this video-" stop, argue with your own points. also, Saros, Tokon, and Kena are VERY safe? Nintendo has, on the other hand, released this week yet another mid basic Mario Tennis game for the 3rd time in a row. Is that top tier compared to anyone else?

you missed the point of the video. Ragnarok fits that video perfectly - a game made to insult no-one first, a game experience second. The same could be said for Horizon forbidden west, surely the new Horizon and fir SURE spider man 2 and the new 2d "boy kratos" game... and looking at the upcoming slate from Sony... not looking promising

Also Tokon is Japanese? They are way more unaffected but what the video points out. Also not really first party...

Say what you will about Nintendo - they are still "fun" first. Like Sony and Xbox used to be

btw do you actually think Sony will dare to not edit/tone down the GoW trilogy remake for example..

It's "ok" pretty aneamic for me.

Saros is the main prize.
Wolverine could be great, could be average, after SM2, I don't trust insomniac as much as I did.

I don't really play online, bit of helldivers, but the latest marathon trailer looks much better than the prior one…might give it a shot. Rest is poop. For a major publisher and the top console manufacturer it's not really good enough.

I did not watch it lol.

Again, why?

So? It's still a Sony game.

How are any of the games in the OP not fun first?

Nothing hints at that being the case for now. People here unironically believed that the Days Gone remaster would be censored and yet nothing happened.

S SpokkX laughing reaction when lacking arguments, classic one

Looking forward to Wolverine, but it's probably gonna be hard to make it feel as fun and spectacular gameplay wise as Spider-Man. Insomniac usually delivers solid gameplay so hopefully they've managed to make it feel varied and visceral.

God of War Sons of Sparta came out of nowhere and so far it's a damn nice surprise. Sony should do more stuff like it, i e smaller yet high quality stuff. It obviously takes some effort but nowhere close their +200 million productions.

Working with smaller yet proven external devs during the PS1/PS2 and most of the PS3 era arguably brought some of the most iconic games.
They need someone to pick up where Yoshida left off (as awkward as it turned out) and bring those sensibilites back into not only indie relations but 2nd party pipeline. They have more resources now than ever before to make it happen.
Woops, went of on a tangent completely...

Anyway, Saros is gonna be a guaranteed banger. Returnal is one of my favourite experiences this gen along with Baldurs Gate 3, Elden Ring and GT7.

The rest are not really my cup of tea. I'll probably try Marathon, accidentaly kill a squad member, die before extracting, sigh loudly and quit the game.

What do you think, GAF? Is it good enough or does it need more Ape Escape?

Good line-up, although not stellar, but it's an improvement. Wolverine and Saros are bound to be great, and Kena is a lovely surprise. I love the look of Tokon and Marathon but I never play multiplayer games so unfortunately they're not for me, but I can't deny that they're significant releases. GOW 2D is a nice little bonus I guess. MLB is an irrelevance and shouldn't even be included in these lists if you ask me.

I'd rather look at the whole pie than part of the pie. The recent SOP showed that there are plenty of great looking games coming out for PS5, and then you can add GTA 6 and MS games like Fable and FH6.

That's a tasty fucking pie.

Congrats if you are an investor I guess as a consumer is their worst generation by far.

For you, my friend...In addition, the PS5 will still be the baseline for another 4-5 years: Most third party titles -if not all-, and many first party projects will still be releasing on it for quite some time; which is why comments such as yours make me scratch my head. You seem to suggest that there would be a cutoff the moment the PS6 hits the market...There definitely won't be.

MewGenics has more soul and charm than any Sony first part game released this (PS5) generation. PS4 on the other hand was true Sony first party dominance. Incredible and iconic games with charm, soul and near perfection.

Remember, any game that divides it's playerbase, that has a parabolic review graph is going to always be memorable. Every Sony game this generation is safe, stable and shiny but boring and forgettable.

Not a fall though, this is very profitable, Sony is printing, but whatever, I'm not interested except for ND's Intergalatic. I respect ND, they go full ham on their own stuff, they don't give a fuck what everyone says about them that's how you actually make memorable games.

A Killzone or a Resistance remaster Trilogy would be more hype than anything Sony has released so far in this generation.

Truth be told, Phantom Blade Zero could be in that list, and would probably become the best or second best of the lot.

Either way, fuck Hermen Hulst.

Sons of Sparta and Marvel Tokon are the only ones worth a damn imo. And lol at adding some retarded sports slop on this list. You might as well as added one of those hidden object games on this list instead.

It's a SIE game developed by an internal SIEA development studio, why shouldn't it count. And "retarded sports slop" is not an argument lol.

Are any of those produced by SIE?
I'm not saying it's an "argument". You asked people what they thought of SIE's output this generation and I responded with my opinion. It's my opinion that caring about any sports title is retarded.

Other than Marvel Tokon and God of War, they don't have anything worthwhile to get excited about to me.

"And lol at adding" implies that they were not worth adding, which makes zero sense as quantity is an objective measurement, unlike quality. But also, if you were not expressing like a (NPC) teenage edgelord people would understand you better.

Arc System and Ember Lab are "Sony output"?
Yes, as you can see in the game credits via MobyGames, games published by Sony with an external lead development studio often have around 90% of the staff who worked in the game that are not from that lead development studio. They are instead from different Sony teams, plus an important portion too from other external outsourcing teams (with a handful exteptions, always managed/produced by Sony's XDEV).
