Social Cringe A tale of two police encounters with armed suspects

Exhibit A:

Atlanta Police release bodycam video of shooting that left Dearian Bell dead (hoodsite.com)

GRAPHIC VIDEO: Atlanta Officer Shoots, Kills Man Who Approached Her With Gun - Breaking911

Police said they were called out for a report of a fight between 28-year-old Dearian Bell and his wife just before 7:30pm along Casanova Street in southeast Atlanta.

Investigators said Bell and woman were inside a car when they arrived at the scene.

Officers said the woman got out and told them Bell had a gun. Investigators said one of the responding officers attempted to talk Bell into putting the gun down but was unsuccessful.

That’s when police said they requested a crisis negotiator come to the scene to help.

Before the negotiator could get to the scene, police said Bell got out of the car and started approaching an officer while holding his gun.

That’s when investigators said the officer opened fire, hitting Bell.

“He had been told numerous times to place that weapon down but unfortunately he did not,” said Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Timothy Peek.

Result: Dead perp

Exhibit B:

Man found toting AR-15 on city street, police say | Thousand Oaks Acorn (toacorn.com)

A man is behind bars after police say he was found walking around a local condominium complex hallucinating and armed with an AR-15-style rifle.

Police responding to a 911 call made by Gonzalez’s mother found the man on Charterwood Court near Erbes Road and T.O. Boulevard around 7:30 a.m. Sept. 18, said Detective Ken Michaelson.

Patrol deputies were able to convince Gonzalez to give up the loaded weapon without resorting to lethal force, Michaelson told the Acorn.

“His mother called and said he was out of control and throwing things around the house, but when units were en route, she said he’d just armed himself and went outside,” Michaelson said. “It suddenly became a much bigger danger . . . but when they made contact with him, he put the gun down pretty quickly.

A search of Gonzalez’s home produced a loaded AK-47 assault rifle, several rounds of ammunition, a ballistic vest, a set of brass knuckles and about 2 ounces of methamphetamine, police said.

Result: Live perp

What is the difference? The guy still living, EVEN HIGH ON METH knew to put his gun down when asked to by the Police. Why the hell are these armed idiots refusing police orders to disarm? Should anyone be shocked when they get shot and killed?

Is it some sort of weird macho thing where they feel entitled to doing whatever they damn well please?

Surprisingly I had not heard of that shooting in Atlanta, and it just happened Monday. They were quick to get that body cam footage out, smart move.

Hearing that cop sobbing at 14:40 or so broke my heart. If only they’d called a social worker or employed the Joe Biden VATS targeting system, this would’ve never happened.

But they did

That’s when police said they requested a crisis negotiator come to the scene to help.

Before the negotiator could get to the scene, police said Bell got out of the car and started approaching an officer while holding his gun.

Obviously they took too long, and the dead man is their fault. Obviously.

Maybe all these perfectly upstanding citizens have sticky stuff on their weapons which makes it so they can't drop them! Anyone think of that??
