Tis a merry time in the world of games. E3 offers so much potential, Steam Sales are currently going for many a deal, so many are rediscovering old games that I feel it's time to celebrate a bit.

I owe a lot to video games. It help me become closer to my father as I watched him play Football Manager on our BBC Micro and now closer to my daughter as she watches me play games and tells me what to do; It taught me many a thing, from what an echidna was in Sonic The Hedgehog 3 to inspiring me to learn about Venetian history in Assassin's Creed 2; It's brought me many a friend through local and online play full of memories I'll forever cherish; It's given me discussion and ideas that expanded my way of thinking, or given me understanding into others; It's paid my bills as an artist and taught me the importance of proper file management; It's has brought me hours of fun and that' what really matters. Not to mention all the things it's done for the rest of the world, such as provide better medical technology because of gaming's drive for better graphics or helping to provide easier historical simulations to help study battles of the past or track a spread in for epidemiology
I truly do love video games and for all the discussions that can get out of hands at times, the fanaticism that can occur when "my team" is fighting "your team", the exaggerations over what is playable or not playable graphically, or what have you, but in the end it's all about joy and excitement, experience and immersion, learning or expanding, being with friends or escaping into fantasy, and it is truly a great medium for all that and more.

So that's my sappy little first post for my first thread. Nothing much I know and while I would love to hear some posts about how you've learned from games or otherwise grown from it, in the end this is really just a thread so I can share with some people some games I have purchased or otherwise collected and wish to give out in the hope they entertain you.

Now this is a simple first post as I need to create a new thread in order to use ModBot outside of the friendly and active Steam thread, who is busy talking about sales. So to start off with, a first come, first serve copy of Vanguard Princess on Steam. 0VF26-LXCGD-63ED4

I'm afraid I haven't kept track of what OS they are for, but the vast majority of them will be for Windows I know. If you check the Desura's website for game it will list what OS they are available for, Ultionus A Tale of Petty Revenge for example is for Windows, Mac, and Linux and once you have activated a key for it (purchase on your own or using a key from my giveaway), it will offer the option to download a version for any of the OSes.

Also to note for others, some, and just some, of the Desura keys will provide Steam keys once activated. I wish I could tell you which ones but I'm afraid I lost that information as I was getting them all together in this giveaway. Sorry about that.

Aye, that is correct. As long as that Apple symbol is present under the RELEASES and next to the Buy button, it's available for Mac.

So that's my sappy little first post for my first thread. Nothing much I know and while I would love to hear some posts about how you've learned from games or otherwise grown from it, in the end this is really just a thread so I can share with some people some games I have purchased or otherwise collected and wish to give out in the hope they entertain you.

I think gaming for me was always about playing with friends and family, but I didn't really make a lot of friends who played video games while I was in my teens, but thanks to the internet and online gaming I met a lot of amazing people.

I don't like the competitive nature of online gaming these days so I've played MMO for a while even though I do find them a bit boring most of the time, but the community is pretty much what kept me interested in the hobby, I think it's the same with gaf, so I very much enjoy hanging out on gaf and just goofing off and talking about games.

If you want to give away a game you bought from steam store, you can get a gift link through steam, check out the second post in the modbot tutorial:

For other sites they usually give you a steam key, and sites like humble bundle will give a url, which you can still use in your modbot giveaways.

Games vastly improved my (passiv) english, since my mother didn't want to translate Betrayal at Krondor for me, "forcing" me to start reading english books and in turn my english-grades quickly improved. Also they eventually led to me studying computer science ... and learning to read japanese characters to navigate (S)RPG-Menues. Heh.
