Two Brothers wasn't the only thing they were making for Wii U eShop. They were also making a 3D RPG inspired by Earthbound and The World Ends With You for the Wii U eShop.

The game's codename is "Project Y2K".

AckkStudios put up a teaser site today for the upcoming 3D Wii U RPG. In past interviews they mentioned revealing game closer Pax East in March. Trailer might be coming soon.

There's a picture and some music from the game on the teaser site.

Some info on their 3D RPG:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=497252

- platforms to be announced for second game in March
- Wii U being considered for this RPG, possibly even Wii U exclusive
- games like “Earthbound” and “The World Ends With You” have an influence on the 3D RPG
- 3D RPG is already in playable form

Just so everyone knows, Ackk are the same people making that "Two Brothers" game: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ackkstudios/two-brothers-0

So they went from a Gameboy like game to a Wii U 3D RPG? Well, they sure got ambition...

Sorry, where does it say it's Earthbound inspired?

http://nintendoeverything.com/inter...op-ackkstudios-3d-rpg-may-come-to-the-system/

Ackkstudios also has a modern 3D RPG in the works. Information is currently unavailable aside from the fact that its graphical style is inspired by titles such as Earthbound and The World Ends with You, but the team is strongly considering the game for Wii U. In fact, there’s even a chance that it could be an exclusive to the system. Nothing is decided on for now, though.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Sounds interesting. I'll keep my eye out for this.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Inspired by those games we played once and know hardcore Nintendo fans have an immediate reaction to hearing.

indie dev who have never released a game announces second game before releasing first

ain't no way no how they'll suffer from the same disease every other independent developer ever suffers from, namely inability to actually finish a project due to starting other projects, scope creep, burnout, bottlenecks in production capacity, etc.

It's hard to say something like this when you don't know when the 3D project began development and when Two Brothers began development. Or how far in completion either project is.

"Ackkstudios currently has around 17 employees. They all worked in the CG animation industry or game industry for at least 4 years and are a bit ahead of the typical indie scene."

They don't sound that inexperienced.

Did you not read Odduck's post?

Two Brothers is a side project. They started on this project long before Two Brothers even existed.

and? this is a behaviour that is very typical of small independent developers with no release track record--putting promotion and announcements ahead of actually getting the work done. the order they started on the projects is irrelevant, i'm just providing some actual perspective on this before people go "OMG WII U ESHOP KILLER MEGATON ACKKSTUDIOS BOMB ZAL DROPPEN" or whatever.

just to give some other examples of developers in the digital space who have had this pattern...

- announces toki hd something like 5 years ago
- announces joe and mac hd a few years later
- announces magical drop v a little while later
- eventually releases magical drop v, mostly broken, to very poor reviews; desperately tries to fix the problems with the game
- joe and mac hd apparently dead in water
- some videos of toki hd eventually released, but clearly show project in early and unfinished stages of work

- company is a spinoff of nibris (sadness), which you'll remember for being a killer app for wii.
- announces last flight wiiware in march 2008 as an episodic title (still not released)
- takes over "raid over the river" from nibris, project is never released
- takes over "double bloob" from nibris, project is released 3 years later to unremarkable reception
- announces whatever the fuck this nonsense is for wii u

Just like that one Kickstarter project that was nothing but the lead programmer yelling "OLD SCHOOL!" and name dropping 20 year old RPGs, this is a no-buy until I see real gameplay. Quirky claymation people does not make a game good.

You could be a tiny bit more optimistic, you know. :p Anyways, it sounds interesting, so I'll keep my eye on it.

I thought this was about a 3D Earthbound for the Wii U being confirmed for a second ;_;

All the same, good news is good.

don't ask me for codes
Is that picture supposed to be from a game, or to show they have someone who knows how to model something other than a teapot in Maya/3DStudio?

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I don't see any inspiration from neither Earthbound nor TWEWY in that one picture.

I had the same thought, but I'm willing to wait until more media comes out. If it means an RPG set in the modern day, I'm cautiously optimistic.

For those who want to know, Two Brothers will be playable at PAX and according to their facebook page :

For those of you interested in finding out more info on the Wii U version of Two Brothers check out the February issue of Pure Nintendo Magazine!!

I really think the first game is pratically done.

Joe and Mac HD was one of my most anticipated titles too. Fuck Golgoth Studios.
