Why is singer basing his x-men movie on a comic book arc.

Wouldn't be the first time, X2 was based on God Loves, Man Kills:

Idk if this has been said but mystique doesnt work. Her story from these films make no sense to me. 1,2, and even 3 works but first class doesnt. The relationship between charles and her is non existent in the original. I know they really dont have any dialogue together but come on. First class basically makes her his sister.

Id like to believe that at one point he gave her the good old memory swipe but who knows.

I like most of what the MCU is doing with the movies being good to amazing and only IM2 being absolute crap. X1 & especially X2 was great. X3 was garbage and First Class was disappointing. I want to see if Singer can hit another home run or two with DofP and Apocalypse. Same with the Spidey franchise. Spidey 1 and especially 2 were great. ASM was ok but nothing special. If Sony can hit home runs with ASM2 and the Sinister Six movies, then I say let them keep making movies. If any if the new non MCU movies stink, then I'm all for Mavel Studios getting the rights back.

I don't mind the other studios having Marvel IP's.
This way more movies get made, some great, some bad.

The only thing is I wish the studio's would partner up every so often,
so IP's could come together for a movie...

No Particular Order
-Good
Spider-Man 1 & 2
X-Men: 1 & First Class
Iron Man 1 & 3
Jessica Alba in her under wear
Avengers
The Punisher (Tom Jane)

-Average
Hulk
Thor 1 & 2
Captain America
X-men 2
Iron Man 2

-Bad
Ghost Rider Movies
Spider-man 3 and The Amazing
The rest of the F4 Movie & F4 2
X-men 3

So to Marvels Credit they haven't done fucked it up yet.

Whats great about if marvel got the rights to spider-man is that he is an easy addition to the universe without no retcon and stuff. A new spider-man of course Obviously x-men doesnt have that fortune.

Imagine a peter parker obtaining his powers in a world with the avengers. Its actually a different story then we've seen. His motives could be different. Could be good.

In my mind mutants and avengers dont work for the screen or the comic. We hate mutants but avengers, spiderman and fantastic four is ok. " oh no pyro hes a
mutant we hate him , human torch we love you " it makes no sense.

I have faith in Wright, but The World's End did not hold up for me on rewatch at all, unlike Fuzz and SotD.

But good lord do we know he has the directing chops for something special.

Ant-Man is my most hyped as well. Edgar Wright can direct action as well or better than anybody in films right now. Scott Pilgrim and World's End proved that further. That movie is going to be a blast.

I'm really hoping DOFP and GOTG deliver as well. Both of their trailers got me good.

You didn't like TWE on rewatch Sculli? It's still bottom, but I thought the maturity of Gary's arch was incredibly poignant. It was entertaining from start to finish as well. I will never not love Wright's style and quick cuts. But that is a derail.

Kind of thought world's end had the best character he's ever written in Gary King. The goat movie itself from him though is hot fuzz

Ant Man will be the best comic book movie since Spider-Man 2 (or dark knight or hopefully dofp)

Dare I ask who is playing Doom in the new FF reboot?

Considering he is one of Marvel's premier villains he gets treated like dog shit in the movies.

Yeah, because PG-13 Punisher, Blade or Ghost Rider makes so much sense.;) Realitically the only way those properties can be done justice is if you make them much more adult oriented and brutal. Which would also require lower budget, while Marvel seems to be interested only in huge tentpoles.

Anyway, Marvel already stated they're not interested in bringing GR to cinema anytime soon. If we're very lucky we might get tv shows, but even they would need to be done Cinemax style and I'm not sure if Disney is interested in being involved with something this brutal and raw.
I want a good Punisher movie so fucking bad.

The thing is, it wouldn't fit in the MCU at all, and I'd hate to see a Punisher movie done like how the MCU movies are done, full of lighthearted moments and quips.

The Punisher needs someone who really knows action and extreme violence, and there aren't too many directors out there who know how to meld the two just right. All I can think of are Wayne Kramer, Neill Blomkamp, Gareth Evans, and Sylvester Stallone. Maybe Michael Mann. Miami Vice had that scene where this dude gets his arm blown off in slow motion.

Oh, and Verhoeven, of course, but I'm not sure if he'd be into doing something like that without a sense of cynicism and some satire. Not that it would ever happen.

People tend to really overrate the MCU. It has produced what I consider 3 great films Iron Man, The Avengers and Cap 2, everything else is pretty mediocre. Its also funny how people have seemingly forgotten how good Bryan Singer's X-Men films are and the first two Rami Spiderman's were good too.

I agree with this, but it's pretty clear that Marvel Studios/Disney is moving in the right direction and has a clear strategy while Fox and Sony are kind of floundering.

Punisher's probably better suited for a long-form TV show than a movie.

It's doable. You could get away doing Punisher with Justified-level violence. We don't need to go all Saw and Hostel in here.

I'm betting this has been asked, but when I watch blockbusters I usually see more than one studio banner on the credit roll. I have no idea what happens there other than two big studios claiming credit for the movie, but what's stopping Disney and Fox from having a shared credit on Avengers 3 to put the X Men in it?

Technically nothing, but the practical answer is greed.

Punisher's best stories are at Saw level though

Well...

Okay, you're not wrong. Punisher can still be done pretty well at a PG-13 level (though yeah, you need the R to do true justice to the MAX incarnation of the character).

I think Justified level of violence and implications instead of explicit demonstrations of gore, you could get away with it.

Though Justified is TV-MA, so I'm probably still too far off where Marvel would be comfortable. Unless they try R-rated Marvel flicks down the line once the base is built.

Well I hope to see a movie with the Sony/Disney/Fox logos one day, no reason for them to not all get involved (except greed).

I'ts more likely a co-production between sony and MAHVEL, since the first is in desperate need for cash. With fox, is a bit more sour and practically imposible. They aren't in pretty good terms.

I would be amused if marvel kept Nic Cage as Ghostrider. I would be happy(?) I they kept Wesley Snipes as Blade.

There's a limit to how many movies marvel can make in a year too. Even now with 2 movie per year it felt like not enough, we want black panther, nova, captain marvel and hulk movie, there's already antman and dr strange in production. And obviously we're hoping each of these will have sequels too.

So yeah, I don't think marvel can make all those movies on their own.

I kinda hope though that they at least provide the script or general direction for these other non marvel franchise. Just for quality control purposes at least. :(
