Great. Antagonizing comment. And they accuse me of picking fights....:messenger_smirking:

I've seen complaints on here about you in regards to "derailing" "condescending attitude" and being "egocentric", but never "picking fights" lol

You clearly have the knowledge and experience (vetted no less), but people take this game stuff to personal and I think you come on to strong for many lol All the Publishers have their pros and cons lol, and rather than debate it people become tribal and act as if criticisms are personal attacks.

5-6 average games going against Starfield and Halo Infinite isn't enough for 2021.

They need God of War too if they wanna compete, along with Horizon.

Both of these at their current state aren't enough against Spiderman Mile's Morales alone. We don't even know what Starfield is, and Halo after becoming the laughing stock of the industry needs a massive comeback to be taken seriously.

Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, once told IGN that the plan for Xbox is to release one AAA exclusive game every 3 months [to keep Gamepass users engaged]. All the studio acquisition by Xbox was a part of this plan.

So, how many exclusives did they release since launch?

Bethesda hasn't made a good game since Morrowind. 343i has never made a good game.
Their 3 main games have been met with widespread critical acclaim, I like them all, they are just criticised by a small Bungie fanatical purist group.

Come of it Bo! :messenger_tears_of_joy: Halo’s comeback arc is already complete with the work they did making MCC an amazing game after a really shite launch period (2 years was it?). I’d say goodwill amongst the hardcore is as high as it’s ever been since Halo 3. Will Infinite ever have 1m+ concurrent players like in the Halo 3 days? No, but there’s more quality FPS games competing for mindshare now. I know you can comeback with ‘but Craig’ and fair enough, but graphics have legitimately never been a key selling point of Halo, even Bungie’s Halo had some pretty shocking looking character models.

I think the mainstream reception to a F2P Halo and Starfield will shock a lot of posters on here.

I’m not saying one is better than the other here, I think PS is looking amazing too, clearly both working on different schedules but if PS manage to knock out Ratchet and Horizon this year, alongside Returnal, it’s pure 🔥🔥🔥 then GT7 and Ragnkrok would be the tent pole titles next year, strongest PS launch period in history.

I never really understood this narrative that Sony is doomed. Colin Moriarty has been spouting off something to that extent and it seems really misguided. Sony is the only company now that has exclusive games that are highly rated.

Sony is just a lot more secretive now than they have been in the past. I wouldn't confuse this for complacency, lack of competition, or lack of exclusives.

It obviously makes a lot more headlines to go out and buy Bethesda for 7.5 billion dollars than it does to grow their internal studios organically to 2-3 separate teams, but the latter is likely a far more effective strategy to get quality content out more regularly.

One thing that really stands out for me, and I think hurts Microsoft on the 'exclusives' front when compared to PlayStation, is the entire lack of a VR offering. VR in and of it's self, and therefore every single game released on the PSVR platform, are all 'console exclusive' because Microsoft in their infinite wisdom has deemed VR not worth investing in. That's over 650 titles this last gen!

Games I can play on PlayStation but not X-box.

Fallout 76 was a disaster.

Fallout 4 was hyped beyond belief but ended up not being nearly as good as it was praised for. The company has stagnated since Morrowind, and seems completely behind the times.

Bethesda is good at creating a world atmosphere, but very bad in terms of creating fun gameplay mechanics and a well put together story & production values. They have not progressed in about 15 years.

Arguably, they were very forward thinking in the early 360 days but have not managed to really do much better. The industry has progressed, they have not. The awful wooden NPCs in their games are a complete joke in 2021.

Apologies, was talking about 343i on that point. I’m not saying their games have been world class, I struggled in particular with 4 but got a respectable amount of time out of 5 and MCC, and critically they were met with fairly positive receptions. I just don’t think it’s fair to say they’ve never made a ‘good’ game, good is probably the word I would use to describe them, rather than exceptional.

To be fair I like Bathesda, but I agree with your point here;

Bethesda is good at creating a world atmosphere, but very bad in terms of creating fun gameplay mechanics and a well put together story. They have not progressed in about 15 years.

Their main stories are pretty lack lustre (even Skyrim), and the combat/other key mechanics do remain the same, but they create what I consider to be amazing worlds dripping in lore for me to play around in for hours and hours.

I suppose its relative to expectations.

Halo is Microsoft's prized franchise. "Good enough" doesn't really cut it. There's just no excitement around Halo anymore because they aren't really top of the industry like they used to be. So while 343 may make acceptably good games, they don't garner the same level of "Wow, I must have this" that a Halo 2 or Halo 3 used to.

I don't think there's any reason why the Halo series can't get there again...but I'm not sure if 343 is capable of it. I was really impressed with the 2018 Halo engine trailer. The vibe they were going with seemed to go back to the Halo 1 roots....but the recent showing this past year shattered that expectation.

Watched an Internet Historian video on FO76 earlier today, and forgot how bad that shit show launch was.

They offered 500 of their virtual currency, worth £4.99, as compensation for mis-selling a canvas bag which ended up being made of some cheap arse material. It was part of the collector’s edition worth hundreds of pounds...

And the customer service agents emails to customers...

‘The canvas bag was too expensive to make. We aren’t planning on doing anything about it’

As a massive Halo fan I’ve just set my expectations that it will never be a leading franchise again. I agree that it doesn’t generate the same buzz as Bungie’s Halo, but I don’t think it ever will again, no matter who the dev is. I think people have moved on and Halo will never recover that mindshare. If anything Forza is probably Xbox’s premier franchise alone right now.

That’s why the acquisitions and The Initiative need to deliver for MS. They can’t rely on the Halo or Gears crutch in 2021 IMO, as they only really appeal to a small hardcore now. Halo Infinite won’t be played more than Apex/Fortnite etc. Halo and Gears will just be part of a wider portfolio now. MS needed to be able to say we’re the ecosystem where you can play Doom/TES/Fallout/Halo/Gears/Forza because all together they make a decently compelling package. They need to pray that Avowed, Fable and Perfect Dark are met with critical acclaim, because they are the wild cards.

It's definitely an Interesting analysis.

It seems like a bigish game every couple of months is the norm.

I'm excited for Starfield since we don't really have a gritty realistic AAA space RPG that's not focused on ship flying, but I just hope mods make it playable lol.

Indeed PlayStations output hit a nice peak in 2020 and I only see them accelerating even more going forward. Covid may have caused some delays, but not much you can do about that.

Between their expanding first party output, their third party deals, their indie initiatives and VR games we're gonna have a LOT of console exclusive titles to enjoy.

I like to form my own opinions. Bungie only made two good Halo games so I'm not sure how pure that makes me.

I don't think it's impossible for Halo to recover. Just look at God of War. It had a bit of a misstep with Ascension, but the studio was able to re-invent the franchise into something much greater.

Halo needs a similar re-invention. Go back to the roots. Semi-open word playspaces with great sandbox type gameplay that allows for a wide variety of playstyles and enemy encounters. Expand the series with new RPG type mechanics and progression. Maybe add some unique new things like platforming sections or puzzles for diversity. Go back to the isolated, mysterious vibe the series had. Bingo, you have an amazing AAAA halo game again instead of the boring linear game worlds with boring enemy encounters and a stupid story.

I also think it's good for them to diversify away from Halo, Forza, gears...but there's no reason why Halo can't be a major tentpole title again that is the face/brand of Xbox.

PC is not a competitive platform. Just because they are on PC doesn't make them non-exclusive. Just like there are several Sony games on PC that won't appear on Xbox. They should be considered exclusive as well. And yea, the PC versions of those Sony games are superior to PS too.
But PS games don’t release same day on pc and there’s no absolute on them releasing at all. X games do release same day on pc don’t they? There’s no 2-3 year wait on average like the occasional PS game that ends up on pc. Cant be both ways. If ms is going to keep zeni games away from ps then they are doing it by leveraging then pc install base. If they want full exclusives then bite the bullet and keep them on series console only. Period. That’s how it was tweeted

That's not going to happen though. They already made the push. Sony is making it to. Why bring the PC into the equation as a medium that dilutes exclusivity when it's clearly an open platform?

Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Game Studios, once told IGN that the plan for Xbox is to release one AAA exclusive game every 3 months [to keep Gamepass users engaged]. All the studio acquisition by Xbox was a part of this plan.

Only if they INCREASE work force significantly in every studio to releasing high caliber games at that pace.

Still very highly unlikely. Racing games, sports games, sure, but others like some big RPGs and shooters, or action adventure games.... . Halo Infinite is a 6 years in a production and more than 500 people are working it. Just Booty's wishes from Wonderland.

R&C while very pretty doesn't have the scope or replayability of Starfield and Halo Infinite. R&C is very limited in scope and you can't just walk anywhere and do anything so I disagree.
Lol Vfx veteran already played starfield and halo and knows their scope and replayability _ and RC is very limited in scope damn!

As I mentioned in my earlier comment, this thread is not about Xbox vs. PlayStation. It is a thread about exclusive games on PlayStation.

As for your other point, if it were a comparison thread, I'd have happily included all Xbox second- and third-party deals. The thing is, however, that there aren't many AAA Xbox timed-exclusive games.

And as far as the accuracy of the comparison (again, not a comparison) goes, I think it is very fair because at this stage, Xbox has made all the investments they wanted to make and PlayStation is still making investments. We haven't seen the fruits of their labor at all, and their output will only grow in the future with more internal teams and partnerships. I also didn't include many PlayStation titles here that we know for sure are in development; many of those have been official announced as well.
Okay first, you mentioned Xbox in your starting paragraph. If your intentions was purely about PS you’d never mention Xbox and exclusively talk about Sony.

“So how does Sony's exclusive software output compare with this plan of their biggest direct competitor?” -Your quote

Second you said MS made “all their investments “ when Phil specifically said they are looking to keep expanding so that’s also incorrect.
Third your comparisons isn’t only AAA exclusives or timed so it doesn’t matter how many of those are coming out this year (5) I believe which is the same amount projected for Sony so far.

Regardless, I’m happy for what Sony has coming this year.

All your other comments are flamebait but I'll address this one because it's fairly cut and dry.

I'm playing R&C 2016 right now on my PS5. It is an action adventure SP game. It's not open world, you can't go anywhere you want, and the gameplay is action oriented with a single focus compared to Halo Infinite (which is supposedly open world) and Starfield (which is also open-world with RPG). It's not far-fetched to claim that R&C: Drift's gameplay will be very similar to R&C 2016. It's not meant to be a jab at R&C. It's meant to speak the facts.

How does everyone not have VFX on ignore by now? He’s the guy that claimed Horizon 2 would look worse than Horizon 1 on PC.

He’s clearly a troll, and you all take the bait every time.

I really doubt Sony is going to announce a subscription where you will pay less for the same content when they don't need to. It makes absolutely no business sense.

Playstation has done a great job since 2009 with the exclusives. They had a slow first year with PS4 but Im happy with the announcements so far with PS5, 2020-2022 has some great games.

But hope there is more. Id like some JRPG’s, 1st person shooter and WRPG from te 1st party studios.

Ive been happy with Nintendo’s output too since the Wii U. But again, Id like a Golden Sun, Earthbound sequels and a new AAA IP as they are taking forever with Metroid

Call me when you graduate from pre-school.
Yea thats how publishing works, the publisher makes money from the sale of the game so i still don't get your point. Its funny that Microsoft will make money off an IP they own?

A game listed amongst Sony exclusives is a Microsoft game. I found it funny/ironic/whatever. Who cares? Move on with your life.

I'll keep this in mind as I jerk myself off to a humongous corporations profits instead of playing games.

It's definitely not impossible, but I think they have their work cut out for them to achieve that. 343i has not really proven themselves to be technically adept, or very creative in general. Halo 1 was an amazing release for console ... 20 years ago. The infinite trailer looked nearly identical to it in terms of gameplay and feel.

20 years is a long time to make zero real changes or innovations in this space.

I feel like Infinite is going to have to be shockingly good to really be a "tentpole" release at this point, with some kind of new mechanics, gameplay design, or best in class console graphics. We haven't seen even an inkling of that yet for the game, and as stated above, 343i has never come across as that kind of company. I'm really not expecting much from it, personally.
