What the Anno Series Is
The Anno games are a long-running franchise of historical city-building and economic strategy games developed and published by Ubisoft (originally by related studios). Since the first Anno title in 1998 (Anno 1602), the series has focused on balancing resource production, trade, diplomacy, exploration and population needs while building thriving settlements in different time periods. Each game combines city management with strategic planning, and many titles explore diverse historical eras or futuristic settings, allowing players to shape growing civilizations through careful economic decisions.

Anno 117: Pax Romana — The Newest Entry
Anno 117: Pax Romana
is the eighth main game in the series, released in November 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It marks the first time the series is set in Ancient Rome, specifically the year 117 AD during the Roman Empire's period of relative peace known as the Pax Romana.

In this installment, players take the role of a Roman governor tasked with managing provinces, building cities, and guiding culture and economics across diverse regions. The game keeps the classic Anno emphasis on trade, logistics, and thoughtful settlement design, while introducing new features, such as:
  • 45-degree placement for roads and buildings for more organic layouts.
  • A cultural and administrative focus, balancing Roman and local influences.
  • Enhanced strategic depth with religion systems, research trees, and region-specific challenges.
  • A structured campaign mode with narrative elements and governor choices shaping the story.
Players can expand their reach through economics, diplomacy, or military action, making decisions that define their legacy across the empire. Overall, Anno 117: Pax Romana builds on the series' core city-building roots while offering fresh gameplay mechanics in a richly detailed historical setting.

EXPERIENCE THE PREMIER BUILDER

Build your provinces with unmatched detail, flexibility, and scale. Watch kids chase dogs through the streets or thousands cheer in the arena. Build upon the land that you see, from the beautiful heartland of Latium to the mysterious Celtic wetlands of Albion… where no civilized Roman wants to be.

BECOME A ROMAN GOVERNOR

Forge alliances across the empire or showcase your might with strategic land battles and naval combat. You may even defy the emperor himself – but not without consequences.

CHOOSE THE FATE OF YOUR PROVINCES

Every decision you make as governor matters. Will you honor local Celtic culture or enforce Roman traditions? Grow your provinces through diplomacy and commerce or conquer through military strength. Your choices will shape not only the future of your citizens and your provinces, but your own story as well.

SOMETHING TO WATCH

Yeah the game is sadly incomplete af especially if youre coming from 1800. I would advise against buying it now and wait at least 2 years if they dont abandon it.

True, however it is still plenty of fun. Today they droped first patch 1.3, but frankly speaking all the bugs I discovered are still there on PS5.
Nice OT. Glad someone made one.
I love Anno Series its truly perfection.
Me too, my first was 1800 so I am still noob in this realm but boy do I love these games..

I can never get into builders, always drop them. Going to wait for some patches and DLC and get in later. Too much on the plate right now.

That said, the game looks damn good.

The campaign is unfinished - feels like they ran out of time during development. It's solid enough in free play.

I've been playing Anno since the first one (Anno 1602) in 1998. Great Series.

The game was great until I got to the part that wasn't finished. At least they could have put a message out there or something, I'm like playing trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do, look online and then realize I've hit the part that's not done. I wouldn't recommend anyone buying it until they finish it, the campaign is like 50% done at best.
