Any game developers, journalists or insiders still here?

With everything that has happened, I was curious to know if any game developers, journalists, or insiders are still frequenting this site. The occasional professional insight was what brought me to NeoGaf in the first place, and I’m afraid that’s now gone due to the actions of an owner I didn’t know existed before this story broke out.

It would be silly for any professional to out themselves on here at this juncture. Things need to stabilize and they will either be here, or won't. Now is not the time to gauge in my opinion.

If they are they probably don't want to post. I myself have been hesitant to post anything since the shit went down. There is definitely a down atmosphere hanging around this forum. The front page is barely active. I don't see a lot of new threads being created, and a lot of the old ones are being bumped constantly by people asking for a ban, or a link to discord.

Yeah, it feels like the soul has been sucked out of GAF.

If you're looking for an honest answer, I doubt any dev will try and talk on here for a while after the turmoil happened. A lot of them spoke out about neogaf when it was shut down over the weekend. So if you're looking for insider news or notable dev talk, I'd best go to twitter than in here.

What will make them feel comfortable coming back and posting?

I thought I saw one dev post a "ban me" thread.

I would assume some Naughty Dog devs are staying around.

I'd say give it time, some will return to talk on their games.

Also, I see little reason why many notable ones would comment in here, seems like a free pass to for a shitty dogpile.

I think alot of insiders migrated. Waiting till the dust settles if Malko was telling the truth or his ex. The only way they’d come back if he dissociates himself from GAF and/or sells or gives to the people as a free site. Can’t imagine GAF being worth as much as before Evilloregate hit the fan.

site seems to be getting back to normal...I'm seeing less suicide posts and more actual gaming/hardware related ones...

Mark all forums read and wait for the front page to fill up for all sections. After you come back in three hours or so, tell me with a straight face things are normal.
Fuck, I did that three hours ago and gaming community page still hasn't filled. And most of the community posting is just asking for discord invites.

Pretty sure the guy who made Shower With Your Dad Simulator is taking notes for a horror game in here.

Credibility. Right now, no one knows the whole story but that hasn't stopped people from passionately taking a side. I get where they're coming from even if I don't agree. Fact is, this situation is still up in the air. It needs to evolve more before a real pattern emerges. That pattern will tell us if GAF will remain a thing.

Waiting for everyone to switch over?

Or you could make a decision for yourself and not wait for everyone else to make it for you. I offer this as advice, not as being adversarial.

Thanks for trying to keep things negative here while at the same time defending every decision or staff member of the other forum. Are you the official representative of that forum or are you doing this as a hobby?

It will take a long time before GAF can be disassociated from this incident. The internet never forgets as they say. Many of the people who left in outrage will always keep labeling anyone who "supports GAF" (by ads, by posts, by association) a certain way.

Only thing those who post here can do to fight back against that is being active and respectful... and patient, because this shit with ban requests and all the resentment will take a while to die down.

I haven't even got my confirmation email, nor was I in the discords. But you sure seem to like trying to ignore reality and play EL's rep. What I said is factual and can be backed up on your own. But, sure, plug your ears, say "la la la, EVERYTHING'S GREAT!".

Insider talk usually gets interesting around the time new consoles are teased.

We're still in the PS4 generation and there isn't anything too secretive about this cycle other than e3 and other press events.

But news/info about PS5/next Xbox/Nintendo would be shared at any time.

Strange, how do you know info like this then about the other forum?

Had a 2k influx in 10 minutes when they let all emails through. They're dealing with that.

Industry members stopped posting on this forum long before this week. The main attraction was the leaks (and subsequent meltdowns).

I may not agree with you on everything but I'm feeling your post, this shitting on gaf while recruiting for the other page shit that some people are doing is getting old. PM the people you need to pm and move on the negativity is uneeded.

I'm stating facts. You can pretend things are normal but you can check the activity for yourself.

Most of the journalists left way before this latest controversy, because many got targeted or at least faced some "too far" criticism; pretty much everything went left after GG. The latest Waypoint podcast kinda goes into this, and I've seen similar sentiments from people at GB over the years too. GAF kind of ended up fostering the toxic judgment and punishment culture that it otherwise prided itself as being above, and I'm not above participating in that myself either. Same goes for devs, and devs might have got it the worst in some cases, but I think more would be inclined to stay to maintain relationships with subcommunities (though we'll see how many persist to exist).

Dunno who'd still associate with this place now, though. Seems like an instant black mark.

I already migrated and havent posted here since the turmoil happened but I wanted to add this to the conversation.

Im not a big dev, im actually working right now on an indie game with some other talented people. But ive worked with 5thCell games on the scribblenaut games. In fact, I will always be thankfull of old neogaf as it was the forum that got me my first real job in the industry at 5thCell thank to beibg thriving with devs during that era.
Devs that are never coming back. They didnt left after what happened this last week, most of them bailed long ago when everything turned hostile.
"Lazy devs", such a horrible and false thibg to say to the majority of developers in this industry.

And the ones that were still here, lile our little home and indiedev, stayed here because of the welcoming indiedev community and thread here.

Press had similar reasons to bail, but I cant talk for them.

Now you just need to see the rules of the new forum some of you seem to hate so much. Devs and press will be treated with respect (of course, criticising is always open if done with respect), and part of the mod team are press people persecuted out by gaf. They want to lay a new foundation for devs and press to be welcome and make the videogame forum there an intelligent discussion about videogames. If it will work, only the future will tell, but I can say they are off to a good start.

And even if they didnt went to the new forum, "way point" was also a very welcoming site for them. Smaller indie devs included.

Nobody is coming back, not even if EL gets out, its to late for that (it was too late long ago already).

Some of you will pobably say your are better wirhout them, or new devs will appear, or im sure they will come back in the future when the new forum (some of you hope) fails, but tjat menas nothing will convince you otherwise.

My two cents as a dev, dont wait for them, because you are going to keep waiting forever.

Yea I feel the same way. I don't have the stats but it looks like a minority of the 150k users actually ended up leaving. Gaf isn't going anywhere.
