Any gun owners lurking...

Ruger Red Label. Only gun I own. Helped me win some skeet tournaments when I was younger. Still love shooting skeet with it when I visit home.

I think the .22 cal is one of the mafia's favorite weapons for doing hits. Quiet, deadly. The bullet enters the head and doesn't have enough force to leave. So it ricochets around for a while.

The bullets are also lighter and travel further and faster then most other calibers as well.

I imagine you'd need quite a bit of training to be able to pull off a headshot in the middle of a situation where you're being attacked. Not just practice shooting still targets (which is what I used the gun for) but tactical training. I've never felt unsafe enough in my environment to justify spending the time on that.

They used .22short pistols. Practically no louder than a cap gun and they would put them right up to the back of someones head and fire a few rounds off. They didn't use the .22 as a ranged weapon, but a quick nearly silent kill.

Go to a range and rent some guns and figure out which one you like best. I had my heart set on a Glock until I shot one, felt horrible in my hands. I got myself a Springfield XD9 Service with Trijicon nightsights.

Not my rifle but almost have mine completed and its basically this with a different stock, just waiting on my papers back from the ATF.

Very cool, ATF because its a SBR?

I went shooting for the first time a couple months ago and it really hooked me. I can't afford anything now, but as a hobby, it is a blast. Not sure why that is so hard for people to grasp.

Yeah, I cant even buy the upper til I have the approval from the ATF. You wouldnt believe all you have to go through to own just a SBR, in fact its about the same as applying for a Full Auto, its crazy :lol

Why do you need so many video games?

I need mine to throw at the invader in the event of a home invasion. N64 cart to the head or Neo Geo if I need a bit more stopping power.

Calm down, you got me wrong. I 'got' your analogy and I happen to agree with you 100%

Given that guns are used for sport and collectible in their own right, I understand the appeal of ownership. Just playing it for giggles, that was all. I've actually been shooting and enjoyed it tremendously but living in England owning a firearm is impractical.

Most likely it's because they have never tried it.
Whenever a friend of mine bashes guns, I take them to the shooting range, and they all enjoy it.

Also, I think the video game analogy is a good one. I own a gun because I go to the shooting range to have fun and relieve stress. I play video games to have fun and relieve stress.
It's like any other hobby, people who are really into anything end up owning more equipment related to that hobby than those who are not into the hobby believe to be necessary. I once had a roommate who was really into bowling, "why do you need ten bowling balls?"

Low recoil for quick shooting too. Point being ... it doesn't have the stopping power of something bigger, but will still get the job done for self defense purposes.

They're cheaper to shoot at the range too. Some of the larger cal bullets can be quite costly.

You sparked the post and I quoted you at first but generalized it since I figured you weren't serious :lol.

A boss of mine once shot himself in the head with a .22. Didn't even knock him unconscious. He just sat there in his car with a bullet in his head wondering what to do next. He drove himself to the hospital.

I'll never again trust a .22 for self-defense.

What's good enough for the Mafia is good enough for me :D Anyway ... I"m sure you can find just as crazy a story as the one you just described with other cal bullets. Your boss is just lucky that he didn't end up on the Darwin awards.

I'd take that guy to the casino the OP was talking about.

Check this out:
http://www.lawofficer.com/news-and-articles/articles/lom/0412/the_peter_soulis_incident.html
Remarkably, Palmer had taken 22 hits from Soulis' .40-caliber Glock, 17 of which had hit center mass. Despite the fact that the weapon had been loaded with Ranger SXTs—considered by many to be one of the best man-stoppers available—Palmer lived for more than four minutes after the last shot was fired.

I realize the same stories probably exist for anything, just led to my personal preference.

Very nice shotguns.

Just seen OP and am posting...

OP, you got it yet? How you finding it? I had a choice between a Glock and a Sig (excuse me for not having model numbers - I'm not a gun nut despite having used them a little).

Chose the Sig cos I found the Glock a little too light on the trigger and small for my hands.

If memory serves correctly, and it probably doesn't, the Glock needed 5kg of pressure compared to... 11kg for the Sig. Actually those figures look wrong but hey ho.

Cant wait until this weekend. I'm going shooting with my older bro. He's bringing his pistols(he's NYPD) and I'm bringing my rifles. Gotta go pick up some ammo. BTW I'll try to get some pics of mine at some point.

Absolutely. I always find it amusing when so many people ask why I need so many guns.

The answer is I don't. I don't need them for self defense, and I don't need them to hunt for food. I CHOOSE to own them because they're a piece of history just like anything else that has had a significant impact on civilization. It's a fucking hobby, and nothing else. Is it so hard for people to grasp that just because guns are so often used to harm other people? They don't have to be used that way and in my case, they aren't. I shoot at targets for fun with my friends and that's it. I'm not hurting anyone, so sometimes I wish people who have never touched a gun in their life would just stfu about it and mind their own damn business.

But seriously, I guess Glocks are very easy to use, so probably the best for self defense.

in 338 Lapua custom made, 243 and 308 in a Remington 700. Yes, three different ones in 3 separate AI stocks.

Then we get into the 2 AR's and the other rifles we have at my house
maybe around 15+ more?
. All are a blast to shoot.

Nice pick though OP, Glock is a great company and you'll enjoy shooting it.

I hunt moose in Montana from a mile away.

not really. But I read in an outdoor magazine in a doctors office once about how people do. Whay in the fuck you have to shoot a moose from a mile away is beyond me.

ive got a decent black mossberg 500 series with 3 birdshot and 4 buckshot in the tube for personal defense. shotguns are great for this because just the sound of pumping it is a warning enough to scare off most people, and 3 rounds of birdshot most likely won't hurt anyone too bad but will definitely scare or stop them. and i figure if i'm still firing after 3 rounds, then shit has gone down and i need something a little more powerful.

of course hopefully it would never come to me needing it but if it does happen i'll be happy i have it.

i also have an sks 7.62 i shoot for fun sometimes.

i just gotta laugh at people being so scared of guns.
I don't own one and probably never will (no money now and no practical, private place to keep it) but it is good for home-defense and for fun too! remember people, it's criminals that get guns illegally that you have to worry about.

Went to the gun store today and looked around for a while. I like the Glock 26 still but the 19 is pretty sweet. Also liked the H & K ps2000 I believe. Really nice piece but $900. The Beretta px4 was nice but not my cup of tea. I'll probably stick with either a Glock 26 or 19. Should be getting it on Saturday.

My brother has 2 Glocks. One is his on duty, the 19 is his off duty I believe. He likes em both.

Which handgun has the least kickback?

Either the LadyHawke 110 or the Vaginator 9mm.

Anyone know a good site to purchase guns online or is it generally best to go through a local gun shop?

Finally got my C&R registration license in the mail so I can order a Mosin-Nagant online and have it delivered right to the house. Can't wait.

Same here.

I don't own a gun and probably never will but I grew up around them. I didn't really touch them because I had something called common sense. Parents didn't even need to mention anything because again, I had an IQ that was higher than my shoe size.

Nothing wrong with responsible gun ownership and if you say "hur hur, there is no such thing as responsible gun ownership" then congrats, you're a moron.

The followup question I need to ask is what would you use the gun for? Target shooting, just get a 9mm. Home defense, get a .40 like a Glock 22. I love my Glock and they are so cheap to modify, easy too. I put in night sights, extended slide release, titanium firing pin, overtravel stop, and a 8lb trigger pull for next to nothing. One of the easiest guns to maintain as well.
